This was held on the last Sunday in the month and was always an excellent meal. Nice people in a wonderful setting. It is a shame it has closed and I wish them well in retirement.

My partner and I had viewed and booked to have Yew Lodge host our wedding. We were originally going to have a registry office ceremony and the reception at yew Lodge, however the owners pressured us into having the whole day at the venue which meant more expensive fees for the registrar and we would have to give notice again. We rearranged the legal bits and let yew Lodge know and asked a few more questions all which were answered promptly. No less than 4 days after we received an email advising that they were cancelling our booking as they were closing the business as of 31st December. Not even the courtesy of a phone call. They did not think to mention this in our conversation a few days.prior. This shambles of a business would have known the state of the business when we booked at the end of October and should not have taken our booking. This has left us over 600 pounds out of pocket on an already tight budget for our wedding in 6 months time.

We had our golden wedding lunch at Yew Lodge and it was the perfect place for it. The staff were so helpful and the food was delicious. A table was set up for photos, cards and presents and a beautiful antique silver cake stand was supplied for our cake. The tables were lovely, adorned with golden roses and name place cards. The owner even helped me wrap up pieces of cake for everyone to take home! We were fortunate with the weather and we spent much of the time outside. I cannot fault the place or the people!

Yew Lodge serves Sunday Lunches once each month to the General Public on a pre-booking basis. This Country House is set in its own spacious grounds and whilst normally lunch is taken in the main house, during the Pandemic a larger banqueting suite in the grounds is used for social distancing. Food is all freshly prepared in the adjacent kitchens and served by a young, polite and enthusiastic waiting staff, overseen by the welcoming proprietors. Bars are available for drinks and with an extensive wine list. Guests are welcome to stroll in the grounds and to linger having lunched. Smart casual dress is required and for those who enjoy eating out this is an excellent venue to visit. What's not to like.

This place is only open one Sunday a month for lunches but it is a very nice lunch. The owners are wonderfully welcoming and friendly making you feel like guests rather than customers. The young waitresses were all very smart and polite too. Due to Covid 19 restrictions everyone dined in the large wedding room which was smart but more suited to a evening event than lunch. The menu was just 2 courses and simple just as a Sunday lunch should be. I had the roast beef and it was magnificent. The vegetables were all brought to the table in a single bowl for diners to serve themselves which meant by the time everyone had picked out the bits they wanted it was only luke warm which was a shame. The desert menu was also simple and were all traditional housewives favourites for a Sunday roast adding to the family feel unfortunately there was nearly an hour between the two courses suggesting the kitchen can only serve one course at a time. Guests are encouraged to stay after lunch and enjoy the grounds which are lovely but not as well maintained as they deserve to be. Overall, considering the Covid restrictions, certainly worth a visit and good value

Peter and Pauline could not have been more accommodating for my Father’s 80th Birthday celebrations. The food was one of the nicest buffets we have ever experienced with all locally sourced foods; and the house felt like it was our own for the day. We had hired a jazz band for the occasion and the conservatory was a great place for them to play the afternoon away, with the doors open onto the beautiful gardens. Drinks flowed and the service was amazing. There was always a professional presence but the hosts never interfered with our celebrations. The house was a great venue for a birthday or a wedding celebration. They also do a mean Sunday roast I hear the last Sunday of the month. We will be back! Thanks again for making my Fathers celebrations and milestone birthday a huge success with friends and family all commenting about this hidden gem.

Recently had occasion to go to a wedding at Yew Lodge and arrived to see that it is set in beautiful gardens. The wedding went well and the wedding breakfast was adequate but not over special. We stayed overnight in a twin room and were disappointed that the room was very tired looking and in my opinion was in need of some updating. I know it is not a hotel but it would have been nice to have had a small television and although it had tea/coffee facilities they were laid out on a small corner table and it looked as though very little thought had been put into the comfort of the very sit or. The bedding was again a little shabby and really had seen better days.

my partner and i got married here in january. We cannot thank the staff and owners enough. we booked it following viewing! we knew it was perfect for us. we then got slightly scared following reading some reviews but! we reminded ourselves that often when people are more motivated to write reviews are when they feel upset. so the number of postives would far outweigh the negative reviews in reality! The wedding was perfect for us. The venue itself was lovely and the food was spectacular. So many of the guests commented on how great the portion sizes were and the taste! we went for the 'Perfect package' with the extension to midnight and early entry for bride which i would recommend! the grounds were beautiful and we got a light coating of snow. the owners were quick to respond to emails and were very polite despite my many emails. We visited a few times to try the food during the sunday lunch visits and the food was the same :) couldnt fault and would be highly recommended from us both. With judging northerners as the only people who complain about their prices, judge us on the amount of bridesmaids and certain things we want for 'our' wedding, take 2 hours to show us a very small venue, continuously talk about how they are the best we will get, saying a surrey post code is better than a West Sussex post code, telling us that a Friday wedding would be dull n flat n Saturday is the only day to get married! Very patronising and condescending referring to us as 'you youngsters' n crushing our decoration ideas saying it was a waste of money. Telling us their prices fit with pub prices.... not the case n basically to get married there your looking at £4500 for the space plus food per head, plus drink per head, plus evening buffet per head which by the way is £7 for a bacon butty who then turned their nose up when I asked if we could have the buttys cut in half! Bridal suit is NOT inclusive although the 'package' we looked at online it was! I was told 'we are not DFS and have a constant sale' this offer was only for 2017! - like I would know this! BAD BAD BADTo involved, to previous and far to snobby and judgemental no no no!!!

I was tasked with arranging our office Christmas Party for 30 people and, by pure chance, came across Yew Lodge Country House. I can honestly say that this is one of the best discoveries I have ever made! Right from the start, the team at Yew Lodge proved to be extremely friendly yet offered a very high level of professionalism. The venue itself is beautiful and offers a great deal of character, along with plenty of parking and stunning grounds. Being a relatively small team, we wanted somewhere that would offer enough space but without us feeling lost in a massive, characterless room. Yew Lodge was perfect for this! We have had numerous Christmas Parties over the years and the food served at Yew Lodge was the best yet. It left the impression that each dish had been prepared separately, unlike the bland catering that you can sometimes get at such events. The bedrooms were also very clean comfortable and, although there was no tv in the room, there was tea & coffee making facilities and a good shower. All of the staff at Yew Lodge are very customer focussed and go out of their way to ensure that your experience with them is a great one. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough, whether it be for party, wedding, corporate team building, or any other event that you may need to hold.

A lovely rural building on the right side of English countryside quaint, with a great vibe and chilled atmosphere. We were greeted upon arrival by Pauline at the front of house who couldn't do enough to help us out with all of our dinner party organising and plans. We were there for a 50 person Christmas dinner. I couldn't speak to the rest of the year but at this time for us it was really warm and inviting, stepping in from the cold to a wonderfully decorated oak interior complete with a mantle piece nativity set, Christmas tree, glass reindeer set around the bar, holly and shepherds around the windows, basically the whole 9 yards for all you Christmas lovers. The bar was reasonably priced, the food was excellent, especially considering the numbers being catered for, the service brilliant and timed just right to enhance the dining experience instead of the usual 'get them out the door to get the next ones in' yarn that normally go hand in hand with this time of year, with all the staff being really friendly and polite. It's the kind of traditional place that I'd like to go to at least one a year.

We had a great time attending a family wedding in June this year. All went as should be to my knowledge, ceremony, meal, evening. I do agree with others however when said that the owners are a bit odd to say the least, father and son very peculiar for want of a better word. I don't think they know the meaning of the word hospitality! However the waiting staff, although some rather scruffy im appearance knew what they were doing Layla (I think her name was) in particular was very helpful and attentive and couldn't do enough to help, very friendly and courteous. Also bar service was first class thanks to the sons wife who on a very busy evening seemed to be the only staff member that knew what she was doing and did it very well! Visited yew tree as a possible wedding venue.Found their details on groupon offering a good package. Called them and was informed that package no longer existed (even though I checked all details and information on groupon) but went to visit venue as location was good. Met with the owners seemed a bit odd but helpful in their own way. Rooms were out of date and they kept mentioning it was their family home over being a business. (Asked if rooms would be available night before wedding so I could be at Venue on day) the room where reception is held doesn't feel within keeping of the beautiful house....but still nice. Anyway owner took my details, numbers, plans, ideas etc to send me a quote to match my requirements. Week later heard nothing, so emailed the details, heard nothing, emailed again, heard nothing, so called and got through to a lady who works part time their explained what had happened she advised I have to view before they give me a price she was apologetic once I told her I had and been waiting. She checked with son and owner and neither had my details so she took them over phone me and sent my a quote within a few hours. Called her back to discuss the package to ammend to what I wanted and get the package described on groupon she said for date I wanted that would be manageable and would send a new quote....she did this but I had some questions about children's prices which was soo high etc and bar times but was emailed back by the lady owner who told me the package price wasn't going to be changed, the price of children is to recoup some money they loose on the package price and was very blunt and unhelpful. They messed me around and basically made it clear they didn't want my business.

Be aware of the smallprint in the T's & C's - we wanted to cater for 2/3rds of the total evening guests....to be told that we would have to pay £15 per head regardless if we catered or not - but because we had upgraded the basic evening buffet - the owners refused to provide any other catering unless we upgraded the additional 50 guests....so we had to pay an additional £750 for nothing! Bar prices were absolutely ridiculous - at the begining of the reception when the owners were behind the bar it was one price - but when the bar staff came on shift later the prices went down. £9.50 for a single vodka and lemonade!!We were advised that the ceremony room could accomodate 50+ easily - what they failed to advise was that guests would be stuck out in the conservatory (which was divided by a wall) unable to see or hear anything. We arrived the day before to decorate the venue and the ceremony room (after being told that we had between 2pm and 5pm - and had to be off their premises by 5pm!!) - however they were not ready for us, as the ceremony room was not set out (we would have spoken to them about the seat layout if it had) and there was still the remenants of a previous event in the main reception room.We wanted to decorate the stair case and the ceremony room - but as they were not ready for us we were asked to leave the decorations and they would complete for us. We arrived on the day of the wedding to find neither had been done and the owners stated that "there must have been a mis communication" as they would not have offered to decorate - so basically accusing me of making it up. I ended up having to decorate the staircase myself on the morning of the wedding! The male owner rocked up to the top table in the middle of the wedding breakfast for a chat with the bride and groom - very discreet! We were also asked to taked down the decorations and remove the bows on the chairs before we left the following morning. The rooms were small - the "superior double" that we had @ £95 per night was tiny. There was an iron mark in the carpet, the bathroom was dirty and the quilt barely touched the sides of the very hard and very small double bed - I would have complained but to be honest after feeling like we had been ripped off at every opportunity I could not be bothered to argue and just wanted to get out of there. I would not recommend and will definately not be using again.....for anything. On a positive note - the photos look good in the grounds and the food was nice.

The facilities were clean and well presented. The staff were polite, courteous and professional. The reception room for the wedding was bight and airy.- I was a guest (non residential ) at the venue for a wedding in March 2016 and it was great - in the summer it would be an amazing venue with attractive surrounding grounds

We used Yew Lodge for our wedding in February. Everything on the day went extremely well and we were very very happy with the day. Many guests said what a lovely venue it was!For the price, they include much more in the cost than many other venues (e.g. flowers on the tables, etc.) - other venues we visited were a completely blank canvas for which one would have to spend a lot of money to attain the same look and atmosphere that Yew Lodge include in the basic cost. Most guests thought the food was excellent and for mass catering (~60 people) it was indeed very good - clearly not Michelin star, but you aren't paying for that! Canapes were good and the buffet in the evening was excellent. The breakfast, while continental, was extensive with a considerable choice of cheeses and metas as well as cereal, yoghurt, pastries, etc.The bedrooms could do with a little attention. They are in general a bit dated and could do with redecoration; some are very small. Given that this is a beautiful old country house, it would be nice if the decor matched that theme in the bedrooms as it does downstairs. While not over-expensive, I'm sure one can find better rooms at the same price. The bridal suite was fine, but also a bit dated and something like a four-poster bed would have been nice - again to fit with the old country house theme. Of course you know all this when you visit before booking! As the owners point out, it is not a hotel, so the room facilities are a little basic. The extension room used for wedding receptions and large parties is a little out of keeping on the outside, but is great inside - other much more expensive venues really did look like conference suites. Yew Lodge looks like a proper party room!As many have said, the owner, Peter, is a character! He can come across as a little aggressive and rude, but once you realise this is just his way and ignore it, he is fine. Indeed, when we came the day before our wedding to set up various things, and on the day itself, he was very amusing and friendly. However I can understand that some people may find him difficult. Pauline, Nicolas and the other staff were all great and Nicolas in particular was very attentive throughout the day.Absolutely no regrets about choosing this as our venue!

We had our wedding at Yew Lodge Country house and it was an amazing day.We are more than grateful to the owners for making it special for us from start to finish. The owners went above and beyond to give us a truly magical experience and ensure we were clear on what we were getting, as well as provided more than what we would have been entitled to ask for, such as coffee and tea free of charge after the ceremony. They even went over everything with us several times to ensure all was understood and that we were happy with the arrangements. The food was amazing, the grounds were fantastic, everyone enjoyed themselves and still keep talking about how great the day was. I have read some of the negative reviews and can say for sure that some do not have any merit to them. For example, if you want to keep your day going, make sure you request a late night extension to midnight which entails an extra charge but that extra hour is definitely worth it. i have to also add that we booked the venue through a Groupon deal which cost us 50% less than what the usual charges are but nothing was scrimped on - the service provided was on the same level as it would have been if we paid the full amount. The hosts were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and more.Although, they were present during the day to make sure everything ran smoothly, they were almost invisible.Once our celebration was over, some of the guests still wanted to carry on, so we were allowed to stay in the lounge in the main house while the owners retired to their quarters.Overall, our experience was faultless, ran smoothly with no hickups and we are even thinking about returning to the venue to perhaps renew our vows at some point in our lives. The venue is highly recommended, it is safe for children, off the main road, quiet and exclusive.

Myself and my husband got married here in March I cannot fault Pauline, Nicolas or Peter from start to finish their customer service was fantastic, we had an absolutely lovely day, everyone was still talking about our wedding and the venue until 2 weeks after.. We had a variety of personalities and ages and everyone commented on how nice the food was and how friendly the staff were, nothing was any trouble. I would definitely recommend this venue to for a wedding (and I have!)

We had the perfect time at Yew Lodge for our wedding. The grounds are stunning and the lodge is spacious, clean with a lovely mix of traditional and modern styles. Everything that we had agreed was delivered thoughtfully and easily and we were made so welcome by the owners and staff. I believe that it is a family run business and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere contributed greatly to what was a wonderful day. Would definitely recommend.

Our close friends got married here and the venue itself is really great with exception for the grotty rooms. However! After reading most of the reviews I cannot agree more with what others have written where the owners are concerned, they are bloody awful! Rude, unhelpful, I could go on, not only were they overhead by others talking about other guests, my wife and I witnessed the constant what can only be described as bullying by the younger male owner of his barmaid, it was appalling, my wife on one occasion even approached her to see if she was ok, the ironic thing about this is that she was the only staff member that went out of her way to accommodate the paying guests, this girl deserves a medal for putting up with what I and others witnessed. Dreadful display by the idiot owner, put him in the kitchen to wash up and leave the rest to the young lady who was professional and dignified in what she was doing.

We got married here and the venue and grounds itself are gorgeous, the food was very nice with great portion sizes but the owners are sadly a different story... we caught them "slagging" us off in the morning which is so unprofessional and other guest were critical of the way they spoke to them. It didn't ruin our wedding day but it is a shame that they cant seem to see that customer service is really important - based on our and other reviews. Unfortunately it means that we wouldn't recommend or give a good rating which is a shame as the venue really is lovely. Perhaps they should take a step back and employ a Manager to run it - just an idea.

We attended a wonderful family wedding at this venue. A great day from the civil ceremony to the last orders at the bar. Everything was perfect (well nearly everything) the house is warm and welcoming, the grounds exquisite, the meal was adequate but average, the staff very pleasant but the let down was the 2 male owners who I'm told are father and son, two words, rude and unhelpful as stated many times I see, on the other hand the 2 lady's of yew lodge Pauline and Suzy were the perfect hosts in every way and myself along with other guests can't praise them enough, Pauline, also the owner was warm, friendly and welcoming it's a shame the guests don't have the pleasure of seeing her more, fortunately the bar hostess/manager Suzy was there from reception drinks till the very end, a real asset to yew lodge, she did everything from serving drinks and the meal service to clearing tables, always with a smile, finding time to chat to guests, a perfect hostess. All in all a great day at a great venue.

We visited for Mother's Day Sunday lunch. The house is interesting. We ate in the wood panelled dining room, which is like a time capsule of fine dining in the 1950's. There is a big bright conservatory as another option. Sunday lunch was excellent. I had the rare beef which was very tender and extremely tasty. Lots of veg also beautifully cooked. The dessert choices were interesting, and again very tasty. The ground are extensive and beautifully manicured. A good experience

Yew Lodge was a good nice wedding venue - a characterful country house, with lovely wood-panelled rooms and nice grounds for the photographs afterwards. The reception room is in a jarringly modern extension, but is a smart and very well appointed facility. All in all it made for a great wedding venue, and with one very notable exception the staff were all very personable and helpful. The significant downsides, however, are the dreadful rooms and appalling rudeness from the male owner. The rooms are in stark contrast to the rest of the venue - pokey, down at heel, badly furnished and more like a two star budget motel than a country house. The room was stiflingly hot, but fortunately we were able to open the windows (other guests complained that their windows were jammed or painted shut) to cool it down. The room was very dreary, with a small double bed crammed into the corner, wallpaper peeling off in places and a large damp mouldy patch in one corner. The shower needed resealing, as it was leaking water all over the bathroom floor.Room facilities were basic, with no TV and no hairdryer, an ancient clock radio and a telephone that was disgustingly filthy. The mattress on bed was very old, soft and saggy, and not at all comfortable.Despite the £85 a night price tag, breakfast in the morning was a very cheap continental offering - bread, slices of processed meats and cheese, packets of cornflakes etc.The owner's rudeness is well documented here, and he lived up to his reputation - a number of guests complained about his poor attitude and the tipping point for me was when I overheard him gossiping to one of the other guests about my wife, and making disparaging remarks about her. Yew Lodge was great as a wedding venue and everything went smoothly for the happy couple, but if you're thinking of staying here overnight then think again.£85 for a drab poorly-appointed room was an insult in itself, but the ultimate insult is the rudeness of the rather creepy owner who should be kept well away from paying guests.

Arrived early afternoon to check- in for a family birthday party to be told by the rude owner of this establishment to come back at 5.00pm, as 'we are not a hotel'. This is too late in the day( the party started at 7.00pm and with a young family, we wanted time to settle after a long journey). After coming back at 5,00pm we settled into our twin room (no travel cot is provided so bring your own) had to push the beds together. Positives, venue is beautiful and quaint, however I found the owner slightly strange, and a little creepy. His wife on the other hand was very polite and really is an asset to the business. We were woken up on several occasions during the night, by the owners son and his girlfriend, as they decided to take the party back to a guests room. Totally inappropriate, with paying guests and families. When we complained in the morning they denied this accusation, and blamed us 'paying guests'. We paid £95.00 for a twin room, quite frankly its overpriced for the room size, late check in and basic breakfast (including mould on the bread, better to check before consuming the breakfast). Not value for money, left feeling tired and robbed! The owner really needs to address his customer services skills, or be in another profession!

Yew Lodge was an ideal wedding venue for us as we wanted a unique venue with character and beautiful grounds, which we could have exclusive use of. It was also important that we had a venue which would allow us to have the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception as well as be able to stay over.We can whole heartedly say how thrilled and delighted we were with how the day itself went. Everything was perfect. The look and set up of the ceremony room provided an intimate, comfortable, stylish and unique area with character, which was an ideal setting to exchange the wedding vows surrounded by close family and friends. Following the ceremony, for everyone to be able to walk on to the beautiful grounds to receive canapés and prosecco was ideal and there is plenty of space for guests to go for a walk around or for kids to run around and play. The spacious and attractive grounds provide an ideal backdrop for guests to mingle and begin the celebrations as well as being a stunning setting for the photos. The wedding reception area was highly impressive. Spacious, stylish, modern, light and airy. Our own decorations worked really well in the room. The wedding breakfast was of a high quality and the portion sizes were pleasing. We received excellent comments from our guests. The service was also very good. Following the wedding breakfast and speeches there was a seamless transition to the evening section where we had a band playing and a lovely buffet served. Finally, we and our family enjoyed a thoroughly comfortable stay at Yew Lodge. We would recommend Yew Lodge Country House as an ideal wedding venue without hesitation. Pauline and Peter genuinely cared about our day going as well as possible.

We attended a family wedding on the 26th September and had a great time, stunning venue, excellent food, evening buffet was also excellent!! The little secret gem behind the bar by the name of Suzy made the evening perfect , always as smile and ever helpful, even when spoken to quite badly by the 2 male owners , Suzy should really be the face of yew lodge, helpful, patient and kind, also very dignified when quite frankly after how she was spoken to by the owner I personally would have walked!! Feedback given to Pauline at Yew Lodge detailing our experiences after my husband's 40th Birthday party on 15 August 2015. I would however add to this that as others have said, the food was really lovely and of a high quality:-'After all the stress of this booking/event (with me still being speechless that planning emails were not replied to without my chasing, formal planning documents given to me were inaccurate, agreements were reneged on and that [name] was so rude he reduced me to tears with no apology/acknowledgement of this/offer of compensation), I honestly don't have the energy to contest this. So the full balance will be transferred to you this week, please confirm receipt.''I have to say as feedback for your establishment, I am very glad that you [Pauline] have been involved in my booking since my point of complaint, as until that point customer service, attention to detail, politeness, organisation and timeliness had been severely lacking at times and I had no confidence that the event would be a success with many a sleepless night. I am however pleased that the day did generally go smoothly and I am grateful for that, despite a few comments of rude staff from guests.Social media and past clients had warned me of poor organisation/communication and rude staff at Yew Lodge, and I chose to ignore this and make my own conclusions as the venue itself was perfect, perhaps I should have listened as in the main I do have to agree with them!'

Food Very Good but everything else is terrible.... The Owner really needs to be in a job which he can enjoy, maybe something that does not have anything to do with the General Public....it was lucky that the Wedding Party that had hired his venue all had very good sense of humours as his behaviour and attitude by the end of the Evening actually did remind everybody of a stay at Faulty Towers when Basil has had a bad day!

I have been to many weddings and this one was one to remember. I felt I had to remind this venue that it's the guests that pay the wages and the customers opinion is valid and all joking aside the one comment about faulty towers is so very true from a past review on this site . I honestly agree with all the comments I have read on this site and really would not recommend this venue to anyone unless you Like to throw money away and being told how to not enjoy yourself by the owner . We took friends to Yew Lodge for Sunday lunch, which they only do on the last Sunday of the month. It is a fixed price menu of £25 for 2 courses, no starters. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, providing gluten-free rolls and main course, including Yorkshire Puddings. The roast beef was as I like it, medium rare and reasonably tender. The vegetables were standard fare as was the cheese. The wine was good and reasonably priced. The Lodge is set in lovely grounds which you can walk around after a leisurely lunch and coffee in the lounge. The food was not special, no better than one would get at a cheaper price in a carvery, but the setting and attentiveness of the owners compensated. We shall go back in due course.

Booked for lunch for 3 kids and an adult. Arrived and had to wait to be noticed only to be told our table was not available. Was offered drinks. Waited a further 15 minutes for them. Another 15 minutes passed before I had to ask what was going on with our table. Finally seated at 14:45. Food was OK. Served at 15:30. £70 for three kids meals, one adult burger and six drinks. Two alcoholic. Is a 1 hour 30 min wait acceptable for a quick meal? Probably not. Would I be returning any time soon? Sadly not. Granted it was a hot day and busy yet if you can't honour bookings, don't accept them.

I wasn’t really visiting the pub - I was just returning home with my car that had been in the garage - they hadn’t latched the bonnet properly so I pulled into the car park to close it - the pub was closed, and what I assume to be the landlady came out to have a go at me for being on private property - I turned the car around and wound the window down to tell her what I was doing and she started telling me I was rude - maybe she is on drugs or something - I hadn’t said a word!

Lovely salad box and mug of tea. Freshly prepared and very tasty. Just one tiny fault was that they had their radio on in the kitchen area which was a bit loud and they couldn’t always hear what the customers ordered. Perhaps turn the volume down just a tad! Apart from that it was perfect!
