Service was poor/ lacking and bordering rude. Despite being told to ‘sit there whilst we get you menus’ it turned out that was indeed our place next to the bar prep area with all its banging and crashing. So many staff but no captain (the lady I assume was in charge was not interested). It was organised chaos. Took orders for drinks but they never arrived. Requested jug of water, didn’t arrive. I don’t think the same member of staff came back once. Dinner was great quality etc - except I was rudely told I couldn’t get more potatoes only the cabbage, pretty odd considering they charge over £20 for a carvery. I honestly thought our table was invisible to them. Kept having to try and catch their attention and they’d do anything to look away. Really unfriendly. Desert was bizarre. I fancied a chocolate sundae, I got 2 ice cream scoops with a fat chocolate cookie forced in between. Ridiculous. And to top it all I asked for the bill and that person said yes then 10 minutes later was doing something else so I ask again. They charged me £18 service charge too! Such a shame as the building is lovely, food (carvery anyway) was nice but the service was astonishing - a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant.

Went for food, which was decent. Service was pretty slow at the critical point when we wanted to place orders despite us being seated close to the waiter station and kitchen. When we'd finished we were surrounded by staff. More of a balance required. Would I go back? Yes. Would I say you have to go here, probably not.

Friendly and professional staff and the meal was great. Unfortunately we had a table near the fire exit, which was used by staff serving people outside, hence there was quite a lot of cold air entering near us. This was detrimental to my wife who suffers with a serious lung disease.

Went there to meet up with old school friends which I hadn't seen since 1968/9 when I lived in Warlingham so remembered when it had the car park at the front with an off license as well. Obviously it's changed over the years but I was pleasantly surprised at how the interior has been vastly improved. The staff were polite, friendly and open to a have a conversation whilst serving. Two of us had food which they both said was well presented, good quality and reasonably priced.

Had an absolutely delicious meal here today, we had the carvery which every cut of meat was perfectly cooked and the veg a very high standard and excellent variety. The service started off really well but then slipped as more people came in, which I didn't mind so much as my husband which was hungry and tired and in a hurry, but the good definitely made up for the service, which was added at a charge to our bill. Myself my 6 year old and husband visited and staff where attentive to her and gave her things to do to keep her busy and in a manner that wasn't just like routine to them which gave a nice personal touch. There was more of an atmosphere outside at that time I would say, which also didn't bother us after a long hard busy week and peaceful Sunday evening dinner with my family was all I wanted. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back very soon!

Doesn’t entice you to go back. £10 - (wine + beer £16+) large glass of wine l. Two dinners for £35 which were minimal (see photo). You are competing with nearby restaurants/pubs and this does not offer value for money. Staff, not engaging just going through the routine. Have done many restaurants/hospitality dinners and this was way down the list for drinks, food and staff which means the experience is not one we will rush back to. The bacon was larger than the chicken fillet and had cheddar cheese to smother it, chips were presented in the smallest pot available. Barons you need to work on what you offer for what your patrons pay and reflects on how empty the pub was for a bank holiday evening.

My partner and I went here last Friday for a birthday meal, and as always we weren’t disappointed. In fact, it’s the best evening we’ve ever had there since we discovered it in 2019, the place seemed to have a really good vibe which included the customers and the wonderful staff. I had the Prawn Tiger Lollipops as a starter which I’ve had before which is amazing, and Olli had recently recommended the Grilled Tandoori Sea Bass Fillets with Mash, which was fantastic, and I’ll definitely be having it again and would highly recommend it. My partner had his usual Loaded Potato Skins and Garlic Bread as a starter, followed by Mushroom & Herb Risotto and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a surprise Happy Birthday desert bought to our table by Oli and Ellie, which was very nice of them, and the other staff who were involved in the background arranging it. We can’t fault this place as every time we’ve been in since 2019 we’ve consistently had great food, and amazing service, and over the last year have been coming in twice a week on average as this is our favourite place to go out and eat. For my partner and I this place ticks all the boxes, the actual pub/restaurant are nice, with 2 different style parts to it, there’s the conservatory out back and the more tradition pub type area/layout too, there’s a great menu with something for most people, but what really makes this place so enjoyable to visit are the staff as they are all absolutely fantastic, they’re warm, friendly, thoughtful, considerate, and are a credit to the Horseshoe A special thanks to Olli, Hayley, Lily, Laura, Ellie, and Rosie who looked after us both so well on this particular visit.

My family went to a Christmas dinner here last week. My expectation levels are generally very low for such events; the staff are usually overwhelmed by the numbers, and the food is generally low quality and often arrives cold. Not so at the Horseshoe. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring everybody's allergy requirements were met, and being ever willing to go the extra mile. The food was hot, well presented and tasty. The menu choice on the set menu was varied and frankly hard to choose from; there were so many tempting options, including gluten-free and vegan ones. This was our first visit, but we intend to return in the New Year.

Two of us ordered fish and chips having checked with the waiter that the fish was freshly battered and not bought in ready prepared. The skinny chips were translucent with fat and the fish had either been reheated or kept hot for a long time as it was dry with thick, greasy, hard batter. I complained and said we would only be prepared to pay for one of the two fish meals. This was agreed. Disappointed to have a 10% service charge added to the bill as I had not intended to tip.

Went with a friend for what should have been a really easy visit for a drink & nibbles. After ordering a glass of wine and cheesy chips at the bar, I was charged £18. I didn't think anything of it at first, until my friend ordered and I realised my large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon was £8.60, making a portion of cheesy chips £9.60 which is ludicrous. Upon checking this, I was initially told I was charged correctly until I reiterated the cost of my wine. Subsequently refunded and recharged £15.55, making the chips £6.95. I later realised I was still overcharged as they had put through the spicy version rather than the plain version, unfortunately there weren't any food menus in the bar area for me to check what the cost should have been at the time. The cheesy chips were incredibly overpriced for what was served - not even real cheese melted on top, it was squirty cheese. The waiter didn't stop to ask if we would like any cutlery, sauces etc. just plonked on the table in a cheap plastic basket and disappeared. I went up to the bar again and asked for mayonnaise, ketchup was brought to the table; I got cutlery myself from a cabinet nearby. Before I could even open my mouth to say anything, the waiter had shot off again. What should have been a simple experience was made overly difficult and disappointing. I've been in the main restaurant and the food & service has been good but would hesitate to come back based on this experience.

Very busy with queues for the carvery in a confined area which was the main thoroughfare for the kitchen orders, general public and people loading up their plates with vegetables.Really quite dangerous as people were knocking into each other with very hot plates of food.. This area needs to be rethought and the xmas promotion table moved to give extra space for the queues and general space to enter and leave the restaurant. Wasn't given cards for the carvery and was refused when we tried to place our order. The Horseshoe is one of those places where you can sit outside on a summer's day and enjoy a drink and a catch-up with old friends, or grab a quick bite to eat from the kind of you would expect from such a place. If you are in the mood for a meal out then they have a huge dining area as well. Part of this is in a great extended post of the old pub with high ceilings and lots of space. The menu is reasonably priced with a great selection of food. The main pub area is separated from the dining area which is great on a busy Friday night when the local young generation are all out reminding you of life before kids (Sorry Ben, no offence 😁). There is loads of parking and a bus service if you want leave the car at home and go for it. All in all a great pub. Go to the bar and ask for Tim. Tell him I sent you.

We arrived 5 mins before our booked time to find another couple eating at the table number we had booked and always book. No reason given as to why they did this. They stopped serving the only herbal tea I like to drink = camomile. The table surfaces are always a sticky mess because since Covid they spray them with disinfectant now that melts their table varnish - they still haven't worked out how to solve that yet with either using a table cloth or removing their vanish and painting their tables rather than spraying them with varnish melting disinfectant. They do not know what a butter knife or a cake fork is (you try spreading a little sliver of butter (which not long ago used to be a small mini-packet of butter) with a whopping great dinner knife or eating a slice of cake with a whopping great big dinner fork. When busy the table service is v-e-r-y slow (people book tables in advance, if they know they will be busy, bring more staff in?) I also warn people that they do not understand the concept of a salad with no dressing on it. If you don't want it smothered in dressing tell them you do not want it to be covered in tonnes of lemon juice instead of dressing. They seem to think that no dressing means cover it in lemon juice (and if you are really unlucky, the obligatory coat of pepper in it as well - look, if I want to add a shed load of pepper to my soup or salad, put pepper on the table and I will add it myself to my own taste preference (not that I want to). The desert which was meant to be the birthday ice cream sundae, set for 6 people for the first time ever came severely reduced in size, and barely and really didn't feed the 4 of us, also missing the sparkly tinsel sticks I used to collect in them, which they then told me they have stopped putting them in anymore (no reason given to me as to why this was stopped). Now I realise I have always asked for them to leave out the mountain of spray cream and the marshmallows from the sundaes, but until this time they still provided enough ice cream and contents to feed the 4 of us sharing the desert. They couldn't even stretch to 4 strawberries this time so we couldn't even get a strawberry each. Only 2 months earlier (July) I got a mountain of the same desert double the size. The ladies toilet floor was swimming in puddles of water. The prices here are NOT cheap, ours was around £95 for 4 adults (and that was including the free birthday desert offer for all of us). For their prices I expect at least well cooked food and decent portion sizes. I got neither. I have been coming for many many years and have slowly watched both the quantity of portions and quality of service and food go ever so slowly never endingly on a down hill slide. The fact that they are busy and have a lot of customers still makes me sad because I can only think that people are more content than they used to be with sub-standard food, service, and quality. I almost cannot find anywhere decent to eat anymore. I say almost because surprisingly after many years absence I have returned to Toby Carvery where the food potions are generous and tasty, the service fast and the prices cheap (just don't go at weekends and during school holidays and it will be okay) and no I don't work for Toby Carvery and I am not affiliated with them in anyway but that is where I will be eating out from now on. Good-bye Barons Catering Group and good-bye Horseshoe pub in Wallingham. It was good when you were good but now it's all just terrible.

It didn't start off well. We arrived 5 mins before our booked time to find another couple eating at the table number we had booked and always book. I asked to see the bookings book/forms to see if they had double booked us by mistake. No response to that question from the staff and no booking paperwork was forthcoming. I then asked them why they had seated other people at our booked/reserved table at our reserved time. No answer to that question either. I was vaguely told they "would look into it". I don't expect they will "look into it" and even if they do they never said they will tell me what they will find out by "looking into it". They had inexplicably stopped serving the only herbal tea I like to drink, some time back, so I was expecting that. I was even expecting the non-table clothed sticky mess table surfaces they always have had since Covid (because they spray them with disinfectant now that melts their table varnish - they still haven't worked out how to solve that yet with either using a table cloth or removing their vanish and painting their tables rather than spraying them with varnish melting disinfectant. I was also expecting the fact that they do not know what a butter knife or a cake fork is (you try spreading a little sliver of butter (which not long ago used to be a small mini- packet of butter) with a whopping great dinner knife or eating a slice of cake with a whopping great big dinner fork. But what I wasn't expecting was the v-e-r-y slow table service (people book tables in advance, if they know they will be busy, bring more staff in?) and the badly overcooked/over heated and therefore dried out pastry and contents of the mushroom wellington pie (which also has been shrinking in size from when they first introduced it). I also didn't expect the recent development of barely changing their menu options which used to be changed seasonally rather than once in a blue moon. As a non-cheese eating vegetarian I have limited choice to begin with. I used to be content with the mushroom risotto but the last 2 times I tried that option the rice was soggy and over cooked and they had stopped putting rocket on it and inexplicably started putting a pile of raw pea shoots on it which tastes both weird and horrible on a risotto. I warn anyone who has the soup of the day to specifically ask them not to put pepper in it. If you don't do so, it will arrive drowned in black pepper, so the only thing you can taste is pepper. I also warn people that they do not understand the concept of a salad with no dressing on it. The ladies toilet was swimming in puddles of water. The prices here are NOT cheep. And for their prices I expect at least well cooked food and decent portion sizes.

Nice friendly establishment. Food good, service good, staff friendly and attentive. Good facilities all on the same level and good access. Had lunch in the conservatory area which was nice and airy. Reasonably priced, would recommend.

Very attentive staff and a good quality of food. Only criticism would be the initial order taking took too long. We were a table of 10 but it must have been 30 minutes until we were giving our food orders to the waiter.

This is such a lovely, friendly place, we were recommended it for Sunday lunch and it was worth coming from Mallorca for the roast. Well priced and delicious food, we'll be coming back the next time we are in the UK

We came to this pub for Sunday lunch on the recommendation from a friend. We chose the Sunday carvery. There was a good choice of meats and most of our party chose the sirloin which was nice and rare. There was a great selection of vegetables to choose from and the roast potatoes, roast parsnips and Yorkshire puddings were also great. We didn't choose a dessert as we were so full after such a great Sunday lunch. We saw many other options on the menu so will definitely return here when we next visit family in the UK.

I've been here several times and the food's consistently good! I had Halloumi Fries, Sausage & Mash and Strawberry Eton Mess Sundae - a great trio of deliciousness! The restaurant area is comfortable and the service is friendly and professional. There's lots of options for gluten free, veggie and vegan diners. A lovely meal!

I went with my family for Sunday Lunch at this restaurant. They do an excellent carvery. You had a choice of beef, gammon or turkey or you could have all three. I chose the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. There was an excellent selection of vegetables on offer. The food was lovely and hot and well presented. The menu was excellent so you did not have to have the carvery if you wanted something else there was plenty of food on offer. The pub is lovely and clean and the service we received was excellent. I really enjoyed this meal and can definitely recommend this pub.

Myself & friends Payed a visit to the "Horseshoe" Earlier this week. Have to say was really impressed with the service & quality of the food of choice! Opted for Tiger Prawn Lollypops & Cote De Boeuf Steak (Medium), didn’t need a Dessert but if they were anything like the other dishes I’m sure we wouldn’t of been upset. Good Service, Good Food what’s not to Like.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is one of my friends and I favourite spots in town to get food. Been here many times and never have been let down with quality food. The steaks are stupidly flavoursome and always the best! Make sure if you’re looking for a decent meal to come here. You will not be disappointed.

We hired the conservatory area for a wedding party, and we are so glad we did. The team was fantastic and went above and beyond in everything. Nothing was a bother for them, and they honestly made our evening so stress free. We opted for the hot buffet, which included pulled pork rolls, wings, ribs, ect, which went down a treat. All our guests commented on how great the food is. The space is great, and we had a good-sized dance floor and enough space for people to sit down. The outside area was great for photos, and the fairy lights came out fantastically in our photos. Thank you for everything!

This was my 1st visit to the Horseshoe for the Sunday carvery, & I have to say that I was impressed by the food. I only had 1 fault & that was the beef, they only had it medium cooked & I like mine well done, but all the other food was cooked to a high. I booked for 12-30 and it was full, great going The Horseshoe & I well be going again for sure.

Lovely salad box and mug of tea. Freshly prepared and very tasty. Just one tiny fault was that they had their radio on in the kitchen area which was a bit loud and they couldn’t always hear what the customers ordered. Perhaps turn the volume down just a tad! Apart from that it was perfect!
