William Garland in Tandridge

My partner has apparently been barred from this pub. At no time has any explanation for this been provided. Personally I find this shocking and extremely unprofessional. How can you ban someone and not advise them of what it is they are ALLEGED to have done to result in a ban. In fact they only told of the ban on a subsequent visit. Greene King need to get their act into gear, employ management that do the right thing, engage with the locals, and thus keep a viable business in Caterham Valley where it is needed. This used to be a great pub where the locals could go and have a laugh and a drink with food. I know many many locals no longer go to the William Garland as it is simply no longer a pleasurable experience. It's turned into something weird and secretive, which is clearly not interested in serving it's formerly loyal local residents. Bring back the Old Surrey hounds ...

Pub is completely disorganised which is down to poor management. Server took my order & payment for a Cheese & Bacon Burger & then comes back stating they had run out of Bacon😂 Coffee was stone cold so Coffee Machine clearly not Working. Also the place badly needs renovation. Will not return.

I booked a table for New Year’s Eve with the festive menu at 8 PM and paid a £40 deposit. However, upon arriving on NYE, I was informed that the kitchen had closed at 8 PM. This left me in an incredibly embarrassing and frustrating situation as I had invited my friends for dinner, expecting the festive menu I had booked.All we were given was some chips and a bottle of Prosecco, which was far from what we had anticipated .I requested a refund and followed up with an email, but it has now been two weeks, and I have yet to receive any response. This experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. It’s unacceptable to take bookings and deposits for 8pm when kitchen is closed. That said, apart from this incident, the place itself is a good one. The staff were very nice and tried their best to accommodate us, and the atmosphere for the evening was enjoyable. However, I hope management improves their communication and ensures such issues do not happen again.

Decent pub... parking is a problem but food and ambience was good.

Came for the quiz night and had some food before, we were served by Amber who was incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble! The overall atmosphere in the pub is incredibly friendly

Excellent Christmas Day meal. Although a delay in food arriving this was expected on such a busy day. The food was excellent so was the customer service and the atmosphere was lively and festive. Thank you for such a lovely afternoon my elderly mother with dementia thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Unless you are have a very low IQ and therefore like football, avoid this place. Horrendously loud football commentary on endless TV screens and speakers. It bores into your brain, till you become as brain damaged as the oafs watching it. No chance for pleasant conversation with friends, just screaming football commentary and morons screaming at the screens. God awful hellhole.

No where nearby to park so was 15 minutes late. Our table had been given away but they were moved when we arrived. Ordered food which took a long time to arrive and was most disappointed. Not good quality at all. Children's roast was appalling so my son had to eat most of mine which I was pleased about as was not great. Meat edible but food was cold and gravy tasteless. I will not be coming back.

Had a meal and a couple of Guinesses with my friend last night. Chicken salad with fries on the side was super tasty and great value. Friend's BBQ chicken also really nicely done. Service was polite, speedy and very friendly. Nice atmosphere in the pub and would thoroughly recommend. Guiness was top too :)

Had a fabulous chicken salad with fries last week, and my friend enjoyed a BBQ chicken also. Food was fresh and great value, and the atmosphere feels really nice in the pub. Jack and Millie were really polite and friendly, and this just added to the experience. Recommend it fully if you're looking for somewhere to try for food with a relaxed atmosphere.

Booked table for pre theatre meal, very busy on a Friday evening. Food was OK steak slightly overcooked but served promptly. Service was a bit clumsy - waitress dropped things, knocked over a chair and spilt some chips on the floor which another customer slipped on and fell over. Nice local atmosphere so would come back for a drink rather than to eat

I’ve been coming to the William Garland regularly for the past couple of years, and the service and atmosphere has never been better. The team are friendly, helpful and very professional (particularly James, Callum and Amber). Would recommend for food, meeting friends, or just a quiet drink in a warm and comfortable environment.

Really pleased that the new staff and manager are doing so well here. It's a pleasure coming here to meet with my friends. Looking forward to a good Christmas this year. Thanks so much everyone!

Lovely pub. Having popped in for food during the week, James and Amber were really welcoming and friendly, not just to me but to every other customer I saw them interact with. This is a classic case of a great pub hiding in plain sight.

Staff very welcoming and friendly, and food was good. Manager was meticulous about allergies. Only downside was that there was a bit of a wait, for which apology was made.

Not sure about the food did not have none .But had loads of Guinness. Staff lovely. And a lovely chat with putters

Came here to get away from feeling trapped indoors, friendly welcome and easy to order from your table through and app. Food was amazing and Calum was very attentive and polite checking everything was OK. I will definately be coming back and a young lady who was with me also said she will make it her local and it is very difficult to find somewhere she feels that comfortable as very shy.

Gents toilet are an absolute disgrace.

Great venue, really friendly staff and wonderful management. A great improvement from the first time I visited.

I can honestly say amber has made the customer experience at the William Garland always smiling and always willing to go the extra mile whether it’s cleaning a table before you sit down holding a door just generally a good person to have around

Cannot express how big a difference the new hires have made to this place! Has always been good for a casual drink, but to finally have staff like Amber who actually brightens the place up and adds a much needed layer of customer interaction has made such an impact! I usually come in here to 'work from home' as its nice and quiet during the day, but to have staff who are happy to have a bit of chit chat has been such a welcome change.

Didn’t have to wait long for food, Food was nice, Service was brilliant from Amber, definitely go again and value was good also.

Lovely environment, comfortable, really good selection of foods, lots of gluten free options which was very impressive. A big THANK YOU to Millie, great polite helpful service, definitely going back soon, happy to recommend.

Pub is great, awesome atmosphere when it’s packed and cosy feeling when it isn’t. The staff are also super friendly. I am going to come here more often!

Excellent quick service. The food was delicious and the staff were really friendly especially Calun. They were also very engaging with recommendations of drinks to try. The pub had a lovely welcoming atmosphere this is the reason it is now my regular.

Went to the back to school disco last night. Brilliant night. Great atmosphere. DJ was excellent. Kept everyone dancing all night. Bar service was quick and friendly even though the place was heaving. Would definitely go back

We were welcomed on entry and served quickly. The food menu is good value food when it arrived was well presented. The premises is very clean tidy and a pleasant place to spend a few hours. Would be rude not to thank Callum and Rlliot for their excellent service. Highly recommend this pub situated in a prominent position in the high street.

I’ve been a frequent visitor to The William Garland in Caterham, and whilst not all my experiences have been pleasant in recent times due to a previous member of staff. I want to highlight the exceptional service provided by Shona. Her professionalism, dedication and respect shown towards customers is highly commendable and enhances the overall experience at the pub. I’ve heard her Sunday Roast is also very good and well worth the trip down.

Very friendly staff, excellent service and tasty food. A very lovely way to spend the afternoon. I will definately come again with my friends.

Just had lunch with my sister - we chose (lunch and drinks menu) available Monday to Friday 12-3pm. Chicken BLT and Halloumi and Chili Jam flatbread wrap comes with a soft drink for just £8 or add £2 for alcoholic drink. Service was very good as was the food. Not too noisy so managed to chat, lovely view of the garden. Definitely popping back for lunch again. Thank you Lindsay for all your help with our order.

Great food, space and people! Granted, we just had sandwiches - but there are sandwiches and sandwiches, and these (chicken BLTs) were great! As were the sweet potato fries. And lively friendly people, back patio in the sun - all great!

Up until about a year or so ago we used to enjoy the food here, however, we visited today & unfortunately had the our second terrible meal there. The last one we thought was a one off as 3 out of 4 meals came out stone cold & half of it missing. Today’s meals were no better. The chicken BLT sandwich came out with no bacon or tomato & only small chicken pieces on one half of the sandwich. The 2 cod goujon sandwiches were even worse, with only 2 tiny fish goujon’s (way smaller than a normal fish finger) that barely filled one half of the sandwich? They were basically 80% bread & 20% filling. The kids tomatoe pasta was just a bowl of plain cooked pasta with a spoonful of passata sauce dolloped on top! I know people are making cut backs etc but that doesn’t mean we should cut back on quality. It looked like it had been made by a 10 year old? Thank goodness for the friendly barman who was actually very helpful.

Mediocre, very noisy with football

After arriving was confronted and accused of stealing by but a regular, who then repeatedly threatened me, when I haven't been to the pub for almost six months, was then threatened again, after watching CCTV they said it wasn't me but told me if it was I need to watch out. Then they started to accuse my friend saying it as him. I'm 20 stone my friend is half my size so how you would ever confuse us, is beyond belief. Then the staff came out and told us we were thieves and we stole and it was us on CCTV, when we asked to see the video we were told we weren't allowed. The staff were rude and constantly told accused us. I've never stolen anything and was treated like a criminal and have never had such a disgraceful experience.

We are a group of "mature" ladies who meet for lunch regularly. We like this pub as quiet background music lunchtimes which enables us to talk to each other. Also food arrives on hot plates. Always looked after by staff. Thank you Linda and girlies

Food was bang on point, lots to choose from. Drinks too, sever recommend an orange spritz I believe it’s called? It was perfect. Server’s name is Calum Mintrim and was professional, friendly, welcoming and seems to have a good grasp on what he’s doing. Hope he goes far.

An amazing place to chill and eat great service that makes you at home, the food was exquisite as always staff very helpful and funny note from my son said “I’d rather have the food here even if Gordon Ramsey was going to feed me”

Decent pub in Caterham Valley. Fair prices for both drink and food. Callum is always a happy welcome and professional barman.

Had the most amazing few days here with family we flew up from Scotland and the bar manager Ashley well..... I could not fault him he was amazing, absolutely outstanding service and when we return here for the next holiday to visit our English family we will be sure to return to this pub as Ashley has made our time here so welcoming and friendly what an excellent bar manager big cheers to him xx

Came here after we came back from London on the train. Great pub and amazing atmosphere. Calun the great barman served us our drinks in a timely manner and he had a great chat. He was an absolute geezer!!! I'd go back here for drinks thanks to caluns hospitality!! 10/10

Best pub in Caterham! The staff are so lovely and are there to help with anything you need! Ashley and Pebbles are by far the most lovely, helpful and considerate bar staff I have ever met!! Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting :)

The team put on a tasting evening and it was fantastic, beautifully presented and food to feed the five thousand! Assistant manager Ash (what a star) supplied complimentary Prosecco upon arrival and Chef Shona displayed skills and looked after us with class! Thank you to the team and I will look forward to trying this menu very soon!

The William Garland put on a lovely spread of food from the new menu. The food was lovely, staff were great. Even threw in a free glass of Prosecco!

Booked a table for a set time, turned up early and was pointed in the direction to a table , was told by member of staff that they would be over to take order, once they had served customers, waited 15-20 mins, so went with menu back to the bar to order drinks and food only to be told kitchen was now closed due to staff shortages, no apology

Went to meet family for a drink and some had food as well. Staff seemed fine though obviously busy as it was a Friday night. Food nothing special and pub very noisy so we couldn't really hold conversations easily. Maybe not the best place to meet on this occasion or for a group of older people to go at this time.

Has great potential however considering it was a Sat no real ales despite 5 pumps only one bottled beer. So rather disappointed. The Guinness was good though. I didn’t eat but the food looked ok. The staff were helpful.

Very poor. Served a pint of beer that had been sitting for a while behind the bar due to a previous incorrect order. I questioned this and was told I could bring it back if no good. If was flat! My husband had a freshly poured pint of the same beer which was nice and lively. I went back to the bar after one sip and was told it was due to an old style glass! My husband’s fizzy beer was in the same style glass. Anyway, after lots of tooing and froing I was finally allowed a fresh pint! Everyone at the bar was telling the manager to “sort it out” 😊 The barman came privately to our table to apologise for the managers “very poor judgement” Our family came to join us and I suggested we go elsewhere as the service was so poor. We did. We won’t be back!

If you're looking for that real pub smell and atmosphere then this the place to go. Food is good and the service is excellent. A lovely place to meet up with friends for a catch up, drinks and good food. Nice and cosy in there.

Under these difficult times. The staff are very friendly and helpful. And the thing I like the best is the green king app you can order your drinks at the table.

Just had to talk about how great this spot is! I’m from the states and visit my parents here who live here every year. Ashley and Patrick who work here are very helpful and nice, and even gave us some dessert on the house after our food (: We always love coming here for lunch/dinner and a few drinks. Our favorite place in town!

A real pub atmosphere and not in your face. Had good quiet time there and felt at ease as no chavs to be seen. Oh, sorry the Bacon & Cheese Burger really is the best in town & I'm a Burger King ( No not the franchise)
