Our room was fairly basic but functional and clean although the stairs and lobby leading to the room needed some attention. We could hear music coming from the kitchen, I think, but fortunately this had stopped by the time we went to bed. The bar was pretty busy and seemed popular with the locals but we decided to take a short walk into the main town area for a visit to a Thai restaurant which was very good. The low price that I paid through Hotels.com represented good value. I would consider staying again.

Pub has been ruined by a massive chunk of the garden being taken up by a children's playground. Screaming kids charging around while you're trying to have a relaxing pint do not mix. There also used to be nice views over fields, now replaced by a 6ft metal fence and plastic sheeting. Shame.

We called in, late Sunday evening without booking. A table was found for our party of four. We all had the roast beef, Sunday lunch. It was excellent, good tasty food, very reasonable price. The pub was noisy, but that was because it was very busy, that gave it a nice lively atmosphere. The service was excellent. It's a shame we don't live locally, if we are ever in Lingfield again we would definitely made a return visit. I would highly recommend.

The room was spacious, the only downside was that we had a green light permanently on (emergency lighting?) The evening meal was ok, but the batter on the fish could've been much crispier. Breakfast was great - no problems at all. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of car parking spaces, and about a 20 minute walk to Lingfield racecourse, which was our reason for stopping.

We booked in advance for the football final. However the poor layout of the outside area allowed tables to be unable to see the screen blocked by their hideous decoration. But also the screen is really small like from 1970s might as well be black and white. The price of the drink is terrible two diet cokes and a pint of beer came to £17 and upon reflection they are not a suitable location to host any major event. Hopefully from this review that might make some improvement for the establishment to maintain customers.

Met friends for Sunday Lunch here, it was our 2nd visit here, but had to call them twice before, having booked on line initially, as no confirmation received & was not confident that person I spoke to had completed the booking correctly, in the end all was well but could easily have given up, this process & some staff’s telephone manner needs to be improved. Nice welcome on arrival & shown to table promptly, we all chose a roast as we were disappointed that previously enjoyed skewers were not on the menu. Food was plentiful & nicely presented with relevant sauces offered, the potatoes were a bit disappointing not very crispy but the meat very tasty. Desserts chosen were Crème Brûlée & Treacle Tart both enjoyable. Overall we enjoyed our 2nd visit as a central meeting place for us all & prices were quite reasonable,

Our lunch club visited recently and had an admirably good lunch. Friendly staff and good service. I was interested our group is moving away from Real Ale and especially into fine non-alcoholic beers. Guiness and Lucky Saint were top notch. So, to the food. Pies met the tough criteria of the old gentlemen and were rated good. Drinks order taken promptly then a bit of a wait to order our food, although we also took a while to choose from their comprehensive menu. The Starters we chose were Whitebait and Cheese Nachos, both plentiful & tasty. The mains we chose were either Pizzas or Flatbreads, of various types and were also generous portions and really tasty. Those having Pizza did comment that having a sharper knife would have been helpful to cut the Pizzas as the knives given were rather blunt. We booked early in the day for a Christmas Eve meal. The menus weren’t as advertised on the website (which is understandable in the run up to Christmas but I hadn’t see any messages online saying the full menu wouldn’t be available). Staff were lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was cosy and warm. However, it took nearly 40 minutes to order food despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. We couldn’t order with the one wait staff who was around as she wasn’t allowed to take orders. When eventually someone did come over to take our order they then told us we only had 90 minutes for our meal. Trying to pay for our meal once we’d finished also wasn’t easy and waited at the bar for a whole. I’d go back to give the pub another chance as we did like the setting. However, service would need to improve considerably

I enjoyed the varied selection of food a lot including different sized meals. The small plates were particularly appreciated. The room was comfortable and warm although the TV was on the side wall which means you get a stiff neck. The bathroom could do with modernising but was clean and functional. I really enjoyed my stay. The Inn was exquisitely decorated for Christmas and had a lovely cosy feel. Avoid the right hand side behind the wine rack as it was very cold indeed and would benefit from some heating in winter. The staff were efficient and clearly work very hard but I didn’t see a single smile for two days.

Selected The Star as my wife dines here once every 4-5 weeks with a group of friends. Came for Sunday lunch for my family and it was very busy. But service was OK, Sadly the roasts that we were served were disappointing; the roast beef was too much for the cutlery; roast turkey breast was carved in right angles which was novel. Vegetables were under cooked. The desserts were OK but the size of the sticky toffee pudding was very small. A very small potion of ice cream. Altogether a very disappointing meal. It's a nice looking pub with a great garden & play area for the kids, but the welcome isn't a warm one. A look invites you to say what you want & after that, there's very little eye contact. The only repartee seems to be reserved for the white van regulars and it's surprising to see them drinking here with prices of Doombar at £6.40 a pint and Harveys at £5.60. I paid £4.80 for a much better pint of Harveys in London W1 the next day! The food's not bad though, but you'll probably end up clearing your own table if you're in the garden as the staff only seem to appear to deliver the food, aren't clean to clear up afterwards, and certainly don't wipe the tables.

There is a good menu, having the usual pub fare as well as an outdoor burger bar. The food was very good indeed, ample portions, well cooked and nicely presented. I cannot really fault the service, our waiting time was not excessive and the staff were polite and friendly. It's not bad value for money, prices are about average for the area. We have been here several times before Covid, and it was good. The staff are always helpful and polite. The food is good for a village pub, with good sized portions. Good selection of wine and beers. We will be back.

If I had to rate only the room, it would easily earn 5 stars. Big, good bed, 4 pillows, huge bathroom. Teas, coffees, kettle. 5 stars. I arrived early afternoon, I greeted the staff. Nothing in return other than what is my name. She asked...

This place seems to be relying on the menu and ratings of the old owners (Deep Blue) as it's only been Harbourfields a few months. Prices seem to vary day to day (not just my personal experience) so its difficult to say if it represents good value for money, they certainly don't represent what the menu says (probably because it's the old Deep Blue menu). Eaten there 2 or 3 times and today's meal has left me feeling rougher than a bucket of gravel. Overall , thought this place might improve with the change of ownership but seems to be around the same of maybe got a little worse .

This was held on the last Sunday in the month and was always an excellent meal. Nice people in a wonderful setting. It is a shame it has closed and I wish them well in retirement.
