Toby Carvery in Windsor and Maidenhead

well having read some of the more negative reviews for the hotel, i wasn’t sure what to expect .. however, the negative reviews are just nothing we experienced, to the contrary - all the staff were absolutely brilliant. on hand to attend to matters, Anneleise worked tirelessly and ensured our 2 night stay was totally spot. the rooms are warm and cost, clean -serviced in the day there’s a cosy feel and whilst we only had the breakfast as we were in windsor to visits friends, the food was plentiful it is a great position for anywhere you need to be in than that area, not far from the motorway and not on busy roads would we go back - yes, for the value for money and staff friendless it’s 5/5 from us 👍

Excellent Toby and hotel. The hotel was very good and great value for money. We would particularly like to commend the assistant manager Anneleise who looked after us well. Thank you. We will certainly stay again.

Overall rather disappointing. On arrival there was one staff member trying to serve a queue of people waiting to place drinks orders and pay. As it turned out this person was also responsible for topping up the food and clearing down. We were pointed to our table which was dirty and sticky. There were no glasses for water, we had to queue again to ask for them. The advertised Yorkshire puddings were not as advertised, just plain, no additions. The hash browns were the frozen type, not the home made one with extras. We had to wait for bacon to be cooked. I cannot blame the staff as we only saw two! Will not be going again.

Great service from Gosia. So friendly and helpful. The staff in the servery need to be more aware as there was nobody serving for quite some time.

Somehow the regular booking for our large group had gone astray and it looked as if we’d miss out on our meal. But Ken, the manager, found us somewhere to sit and arranged for us to be fed and watered in what was already a busy restaurant.

I often visit the Toby in Windsor and the staff are all great! I am an observer and have witnessed a particular member who lives in. She has impeccable people skills from young to old and it is a pleasure watching and hearing her talk to to them. She really is a good all rounder and an asset to Toby. She also has good cooking skills and you can tell when she is in the kitchen, her name is Anneleise. If you give rewards to staff I think she should have one. There is also a manager who is also like her called Ken and seeing his people skills with the staff and customers is a real credit to a customers experience! If you give rewards I would like to recommend these two for one. Di Besty

Sadly this place is not what it used to be. We visited a few weeks ago and had numerous problems including no yorkshire puddings or roast potatoes, we did complain and received a gift card to go back so that they could show us how they had improved but when we did go back it was worse than the first visit. Food was cold, lads on carvery didn't know if they were coming or going, left waiting in a long queue at 12:30pm as they had run out of yorkshire puddings, potatoes and gammon. Surely since you mainly have to book a table they would know how much food they would need to be prepared and cooked in time. The lads finally came back to the counter, one with two drinks for themselves and the other strolled in with the gammon, it was all a bit of a mess. The yorkshire puddings are flat and like leather now and the veg is cold and hard, the crackling had a long hair in it and what has happened to the mac and cheese (daughter's favourite). I could hear others in the queue complaining about the slow service and vegetable choice. Such a shame it's gone down the pan! Although I must say that the waiting staff were lovely and very good.

The food here just isn't what it used to be. Its been a while since we have been and unfortunately this will be our last visit. All the food was cold and the quality has definitely gone down hill

Came here for an evening meal on my own and the manager Ken made me feel so welcome and really looked after like nothing was to much trouble. Top bloke.

At last this Toby Carvery has become a lot better with New Manager and the front of house staff are always working very hard and do go out of there way to give you great service. I also would like to thank Chef Leo for always being cheerful to carve you the meats you choose even when under pressure. Thank you to all the back house staff in the kitchen for preparing and cooking the food. The main let down is going to the men’s toilets down stairs because this Toby had a refurbishment not very long ago and the carpet leading down the stairs is Very very filthy and really disgusting. All it needs is to be clean thoroughly about once a month and I mean a DEEP CLEAN…!

Staff were so helpful from the minute I rang to book for a group of 14 to the moment we left there. The meat was cooked to perfection and there was a great selection of vegetables & accompanying sauces & gravy

If i could give 0 stars i would. The place was so dirty, plates and glasses all over the dirty tables.We got seated in the middle of loads of people - as they were only using 1 section of the restaurant and when we asked to move we were told no because all the other tables were dirty. We sat for a bit and left as we were uncomfortable and hadn't been served. This place seriously needs some improvement with their customer services and cleanliness standards. It was awful!

Zak was a very good waiter and the chef carving is very professional. The restaurant is very good nice atmosphere well presented.

Who is actually running this place? Arrived, waited 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us (no meet and greet staff on the desk) Saw the Carvery line was actually back to the entrance. Husband asked how many guys were carving, having waiting many times, over an hour in the line. We were told, 2…which was a complete lie. Joined enormous line and waited an hour. One, young guy carving and having to go back and forth to get new roasts meat from the kitchen, leaving people waiting longer in the line. Not his fault, where were the rest of the staff. As I got to the counter, young guy disappeared and another staff member appeared, saying he had only just got in. again, only one person serving. Nobody seemed to be in charge. loads of people, moaning in the line, taking drinks with them, knowing how long the wait would be. When we finally got it, the food was good but not worth an hours wait. It’s Sunday guys, get enough staff to feed everyone in a timely manner. You turned what was meant to be a relaxing lunch (instead of cooking) into a stressful one. I would have complained but I didn’t want to ruin what was meant to be a stress free lunch with my husband so we could spend some quality time together, not wasting an hour staring at the back of someone’s head in the carvery line. Where was the manager and why was the manager not managing his/her staff better.

Sat in the pub side which smelt damp only to discover the wall had been stripped back to the plaster, this section of the pub should be shut. The ladies toilets have no soap in any of the dispensers, so staff members who use the toilet are only rinsing their hands with water and not washing them thoroughly like you would expect. Food is bland, meat is dry, beef was gristly, stuffing had the same texture as mash, will not be returning!

Really was looking forwards to a nice Full English Breakfast over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Sadly this was not found at this establishment for yhe following reasons: Bread for Toast was frozen solid. Sausages were a let down, would have been a lot better if meat had of been introduced - mostly rusk. Bacon was OK. Hash Brown's were dreadful, obviously kept warm for some considerable time. Dish containing the tinned tomatoes was simply tomato juice with no actual Tomatoes. Baked Beans were the same, just bean juice with no actual Beans. No choice of Eggs other than Greasy Fried Eggs. Overall a pretty poor take on a Full English Breakfast. Would I Eat here again ? - A definite No.

So, today was the second time we’ve been for a carvery lunch here. I’ve just been reading some of the negative reviews here and to be honest I’m confused. We’ve had an excellent roast on both occasions and I will have no qualms about coming back. The meat is excellent and so is everything that went with it. Our waitress today probably didn’t light the room up with personality, but she was perfectly polite and efficient. What do people expect for their money? Three of us today had a great lunch, with deserts and drinks for around £50. I can’t think of anywhere else locally that I could do that. I eat out a lot and the Toby Inn, Old Windsor is probably the best value for money restaurant that I’ve been to.

Order via uber for 8 meat dinners with all trimmings. Seem Windsor toby has no meat left. Went to harvester filled order. 75£ gone from your profit sad sad servicer. Never again will I use toby. Terrible no meat at a carvery . Liers

Really Bad Service! We booked a table this evening at 8:15 PM through the Toby website. Due to a few problems we didn’t arrive there until 8:35PM. Apparently they only hold reservations for 15 minutes so ours was gone. Granted we should have called to let them know we were running late! The host rudely told us they wouldn’t seat us because the kitchen was closing. The restaurant had lots of people in it and there were people in line for the carvery that still had lots of food being served. The host’s colleague stepped in and was equally rude to us! The restaurant was supposed to be open until 11PM according to the website and this was happening at 8:35 until about 8:45. It is awful to be greeted by staff at a restaurant who are so rude and have scowls on their faces. We usually don’t go to that Toby since we have had awful experiences there in the past. We thought we would give them a try tonight hoping they might have gotten better. Well we won’t be back! Customers should never be treated like that!

Great customer service from the guy at the host point on a busy day. Our waitress was great. Waited in the queue for a bit however the guys behind the counted were doing great. Loved the food hot and plentiful.

Cold food which has happened several times before, the lamb was so tuff, the gammon was all shredded. Really find anything to say that’s good about the food and no idea why macaroni cheese is part of a roast meal, the cheese would be better off used on the cauliflower cheese. The only good thing are the staff so polite and attentive, shame the same cannot be said about the manager, he looks so unkept walking around with a dirty coat on and looking unkept and not a good example , things have definitely gone down hill

Gave this another try having previous visited most weeks and then had a run of disastrous visits. Arrived to the front of house stand, busy but fine. There seems to be a new front of house manager who seems very organised. While eating, I saw him stepping up and wiping tables etc while also managing the front of house. Saw the old other front of house, long hair bringing out veggies and doing a super job too. Waitress lovely, blonde hair, possibly polish. We sat right at the back on the left. Carvery line short, food all hot, two carvers, meat was lovely. Veggie gravy was not like sick…a big bonus for me. I have that because the meat gravy has an odd after taste. A completely different experience to the last half a dozen times. Well done guys, you are back on track. Sarah x

Been here many times this was the worst 1st no servettes on the counter had to get then .The lady in front had to ask for yorkshires he went and got a big tray ful .I had turkey every piece he gave me he 1st dropped it on the counter then put on my plate then only gave.me enough for a child !.The veg gravy was ful of lumps and the potatoes cold .the counter was all messy. The chef was miserable and looked like he can't be bothered. The place was very ful of people .I think they need to get some older staff with more customer experience .very disappointed!

Come here for a nice breakfast with the family, although it’s self service all the staff were friendly, Lisa R and Susan come over to entertain the baby & the food was lovely. Will come back again.

Our experience was ruined by what started off as a minor issue, cold mac n cheese. Did anyone want to take responsibility and sort it out? Nope, instead we were called liars and police were called. Hilarious. 1 guest had eaten the majority of her food (she did not have any mac n cheese) and there were 2 drinks which were drunk. We were happy to pay for the 1 meal and 2 drinks, but certainly not for the 3 meals and untouched glasses on our table!! Surely this is a solution which would be offered in this scenario? I think that’s pretty reasonable considering 3 of us didn’t eat including a child ! We tried to reason and explain to Ken what is happening, he kept getting very defensive and sarcastic and would refuse to listen. He told us it is our fault the child is crying! I’ve never experienced such a poor unprofessional member of staff like this before, let alone a manager? It’s disgusting and will never return to the Toby Carvery again, we will also never recommend it to anyone.

Food great. Friendly staff. Served by Lisa R, couldn’t do enough for us. Lovely lunch, would definitely recommend 🙂 🙂🥂

Awful experience. Abuse screamed at myself and partner from rude barmaid in front of my two young children! No staff seemed bothered or cared! No apology from anyone. Then a long Que for food when told no lamb and all food cold and horrible. Have been here before and never had an experience this bad will never be returning again!

We come here regularly, but not anymore. The last few times we have been here on a Sunday, there has been a significant delay on the carvery. The previous visit we were told it was due to customers arriving late due to floods. We waited an hour in the carvery line. Again, no floods this week. This time was even worse. After again, almost an hour, we finally got to the front of the line. No turkey (my choice) and the amount of lamb I was given was so small and fatty, I may as well have not bothered waiting so long. Veggie gravy was so lumpy it looked like someone had thrown up in it. Waitress nowhere to be seen, had to go to the bar to ask for pepper as none on any of the tables and also had to go to the bar for the bill as waitress gone awol.

There were 6 of us and we all had the carvery. Very disappointing!! The meat was dry, all the vegetables were cold and the gravy was just warm. We were the 6th in line to be served at the meat and we waited in line for a good 30 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous to have to wait that long for a piece of meat to be carved. They are supposed to be experts at a carvery. Do yourself a favour and find another place to eat.

While the Pub was warm and welcoming the level of service was not, buffet understocked and hard to find someone to deal with it. Nothing wrong with the food we had, just needs more staff. Disappointing.

Booked got email confirmation and they didn’t have the hooking. Manager, scruffy bugger, was look it blame us for the mistake and was very unwelcoming.

This place is in need of a good manager, not the guy who spent 10 minutes telling one of the waitresses how good he was and how he was able to make a higher level management decision. We arrived and were seated by a young girl who was completely clueless and could not make a single decision without consulting someone else. We got our food which looked like it had been there a good 2 hours. No gammon and then when we sat down, the food was stone cold. We asked the girl to just put it in the microwave, "I can not do that", she said... "the microwave is just for puddings". "You can go and get some more food, if you like" When I pointed out that it was still the same food, she just stood there. I asked her to get the manager, she disappeared and then completely forgot us. About 10 minutes went by and she came back and looked shocked . "oh, she said, "we will not charge you for the 2 meals" "you can go and see if the food is different now" We went back to the serving station and out came the Chef armed with his food probe/thermometer and started prodding all the different food dishes saying " That one is to temperature, this one is not to temperature" This went on until he had tested every dish and the he started replacing all the dishes that should not have been there in the first place. We hardly ate anything of the "replacements" as they were almost as cold as the originals. We asked for the bill and my husband had been sent a welcome drink from Toby, this completely threw her. She did not know how to take of the charge for the drink. Enter the MANAGER, who kept us standing there whilst he chatted to a group of men. He then gave a speech on how he was authorised to override the system Yada yada yada. You only have to read the other reviews, this manager is passed his sell by date and neds replacing before this restaurant has no customers left.

We had a table for 6, 3 adults 3 under eight years old. Had to queue to confirm our reservation. The waitress was brilliant, couldn't fault her service. Table was comfortable size for us all. Drinks ordered speedily, off to the carvery this was around 18.00 on Sunday. Long boring wait in the queue, no Yorkshire pudding, no roast pork, new joint pork came and I asked for a slice from the end that was more cooked, I was refused because the chef was only allowed to carve from what would be the right hand side of the joint. That looked a fatty, gristly poxy little slice which I refused. Had a very thin slice gammon and a small thin piece of turkey which didn't look cooked properly. Huge disappointment. Not allowed chipolata sausage to accompany the turkey unless you had had the large meal! Brussels were rock hard, potatoes tasted very reheated, no dripping potatoes white and undercooked. Stuffing dry. No Apple sauce, no mint sauce, no whole grain mustard. Gravy was delicious. For god's sake Toby you've been going for years, your main trade is a roast dinner, it's not difficult, if you can't get it right after all this time there's no hope for you really. Add to all that toilets were disgusting , too disgusting to use, this was the ladies. The management should be ashamed of themselves for your carvery and toilet offerings! The Yorkshire's were brought to the table after we had started the meal and we're perfectly cooked. No return visit for us.

I booked the Toby Carvery as I had not been there for two years and I booked the Festive Menu online. My booking was for 16.30pm but the traffic on straight road, Old Windsor was very bad because of road works. So when I got into the restaurant I did apologize for being around 20 minutes late and they excepted my apologies and a waitress took me to my table and ask me if I wanted a drink. So I said thank you I will have just water with ice and lemon and that was served to me. That’s was the best part of my meal. Because I had to ask for the festive menu and it was not automatically given to me and also I was not asked if I had any allergies…! Then a different waitress took over and ask me what I would like to order. Her name is April and she is always smiling and being very happy to serve as a waitress she also always goes out of her way to be helpful. I have always felt sorry for her working in such a slap dash restaurant as I know she would thrive somewhere else. Anyway I ordered the Prawn Cocktail to start with and then I would go up to the carving deck for my meat and vegetables. After around 7 minutes April come back to my table and apologized they did not have any prawns. So I excepted the apology as this Toby Carvery has always been CrP in all the reviews. But I except I have not been here for around two years but I had done my homework and the reviews had become a lot better than they used to be. Even some reviews beat Worsterpark Toby Cavery so I went to see if it had changed its stance and quality o the whole place. But I was wrong as the place is still crap as it’s always been..! So because they did not have any prawns I ordered the Chicken pate. Then I was told that I could not even have that about 5 minutes later. So now I’m in the situation that do I carry on with the Festive menu…,! As there were only two starters left I could have. So I decided to go just for the weekday carvery meal. That was lovely but not hot and the carver done his best he could in a Toby Carvery like this one. Anyway the moral of the story is don’t look at a place and the reviews have got a lot better than before. This is just a con and if I was you I would still go for a Toby Carvery Home of the Roast but I can promise you don’t go to the Toby Carvery at Straight Road, Old Windsor and don’t believe in any of the good reviews recently as this place has not changed in the last two years.

Had lunch with friends today and no complaints, the restaurant was busy and service was good. We all enjoyed our food.

Whilst visiting family in Windsor we decided to go out for lunch at the Toby Carvery Old Windsor. Oh my days we were so disappointed. We were asked what drinks we would like to order by the manageress 5 minutes later a waitress came up and asked if we would like to order drinks, we told the waitress we had already ordered but she still insisted we place our drinks orders again ( obviously wasn’t taken in the first place) we had asked for a jug of water but was then told they had no jugs. We then asked about starters to be told there was no one to cook (short staffed) we were also told dessert would be a while ( they were not even busy) When discussing mains we were informed it was just carvery which was tepid. Never have I experienced anything like this, will not recommend this branch at all. Maybe the area manager should step in as training is required and staff needed.

Arrived at Toby carvery old Windsor to have lunch with two friends who had driven from Bristol only to be told that they couldn't serve us as they were under staffed. Never heard of anything so ridiculous!. Will certainly not recommend this place .

Absolutely disgusting. Worst Toby I’ve w we been too. Beef dripping Roast potatoes were cold, over cooked, unable to cut with a knife. The other ones were vile and didn’t even look like roast potatoes. All pots empty or with over cooked dry looking veg. Gravy was greasy, condiments watered down. Chicken nuggets on kids menu were rock solid, and no side dish was offered. Still waiting for the complaint to be addressed. Avoid this Toby and go to the Maidenhead one instead.
