This is more of a heads up for people, friends of ours are getting married there this week, we booked a room with some wedding code rubbish they told us to use. If you’re getting married here don’t give your guests the code! It’s a complete joke we’re unable to attend due to the children being ill, the code is basically a way for them to make money as it’s a non refundable rate! 1: it makes the rooms cost more then normal 2: if you book normally you can cancel up to 4pm the day before! As I’ve just found out they’ve took £162 out of my account for a room I’m not even going to stay in nor am I able to attend! Steer clear of this place, their customer service team couldn’t give a toss they just take your money!

Went to this hotel with friends for 2 nights. Went for dinner , the waiter had no idea what larger or beers or wines were there to serve with dinner. The menu was not good at all opted for a plant based burger came very cold , it was replaced but service was poor. The rooms were damp, dirty, dusty. I ve stayed in a few best western hotels and always loved the high standard, this is my worst experience so far. 225.00 pounds for 2 nights it definitely was worth that. I think best western needs to do a few spot checks.

I turned up with my mum, son in a push chair, and dog for breakfast. I wasn't very hungry but my mum was catered with and the dog was given the biggest tank of water (normally he finishes several refills).

Had an overnight stop via SecretEscapes. Had stopped there multiple times whilst working in Marlow 15 years ago. Still good. Lots of little niggles to be ironed out before the hotel becomes excellent. Signage to room 19 terrible. Room 19 no headboard, no long mirror, no chair, no tissues. Could do with light on other side of bed. Website suggests restaurant shuts at 15.00 on a Sunday. Contrary to deal with secret escapes which includes dinner. Secret Escapes deal with dinner is from a limited menu, not made clear. Highlight of the stay was Vanessa, who was thoroughly professional, empowered and charming. She is outstanding and a great asset.

We had a brilliant evening here, it was steak night and the whole meal was exceptional value. Beautifully presented - the steak cooked just right, & an excellent bottle of wine included in the deal. The service was good from all staff and especially from the lady with the Australian (I think) accent. The hotel building is beautiful & we will definitely return to stay overnight next time. We didn’t get to experience the garden but it looked like the perfect place for a summer evening. I think some of the reviews of the restaurant have been unfair - maybe too high expectations of what is essentially a busy, reasonably priced, friendly restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere - we will definitely be back!

Peaceful location, very handy for Henley and Maidenhead. Spacious room with large comfortable bed. 4 steps leading up to en-suite which was a slight hazard in the dark. Excellent food in restaurant, although service was a bit slow, but we were in no hurry, so not a problem. Surprisingly, no jam or marmalade available at breakfast. Paddington would have been mortified! Staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our stay.

Someone really needs to step it up over there. The food was decent, almost what I expected (however there was only two very small pieces of carrot on the plate, if all you can spare is two very small pieces, don't bother with carrot) but when I’m shelling out £100 for dinner for two, I don’t want to see paper napkins, no tablecloth and be seated less than 18 inches away from the next couple? Not cool. Maybe I’m being a bit fussy but it felt more like a roadside diner than a nice restaurant. I also expect my wine glass to be spotless, not covered in water spots. But that wasn’t even the worst part. The main menu didn’t mention a 12.5% service charge, which I only found out when I checked the dessert menu. That should be made clear from the onset. The real kicker, though, was when my wife’s dessert got swapped out for something completely different without her consent. When we asked about it, we were told the chef wasn’t 'happy with the quality', of her choice. But Instead of letting her choose something else, he just handed her a random dessert and then said no charge for it. Not really the way to do it.

Lovely location near the river and old interesting buildings. Really pleasant big , spacious quiet room at the back overlooking the gardens. Very very long unacceptable wait for fish and chips , which were delicious when they arrived but we were passed eating them really after a 65 minute wait ,!. Buffet breakfast quality disappointing hot selection but good poached eggs cooked to order. Clearly hotel is under staffed but those that were working were working really hard. Oh my word! Came here in 2023 and it was nice, reasonably priced given location etc and we had a nice time. Fast forward to 2024 and we all ordered the roast only to be told ..... when it arrived ... that there were no Yorkshire puddings. An error from the previous night apparently. Well, call me stupid but surely someone could have gone to Tesco and bought some frozen ones? Anyway, we all agreed we'd have had something else had we known BEFORE we ordered that Yorkshire's weren't available. When the beef turned up it was tough, a few minuscule vegetables and three little potatoes.... For £25!!! They did discount this when asked because of the lack of Yorkshire puddings. The pudding was very nice to be fair but I won't be going back. It was overpriced, mis-sold and poor quality.

What a shame. We arrived to a sticky table with filthy glasses. After requesting a clean glass, I was given the same one which had the top half slightly wiped on one side - it was still filthy. The table wipe down was just as unsuccessful, as the server sprayed a sticky cleaner and didn't wipe all of it away (chemicals left of the table near my 9 year old). Service was smiley but slow (one hour wait for mains). After asking for med/rare beef I was brought v well-done beef. The yorkshire puddings were flat crunchy pancakes. When we asked about this we were told the chef knew they were wrong but had the mixture made up by last nights chef so couldn't do much about it. Apart from that the food was reasonably good - 6/10 and portions were generous. This is a beautiful restaurant with stunning grounds. It's really wouldn't take much (some better trained staff) to make this a delightful place to dine.

We got married here 12 yrs ago and today came back for the first time, all the way from Essex, to celebrate the anniversary with family and show our kids where we got married. I called a week and a half ago to book a table and was told they weren’t taking bookings for tables in the garden part of the restaurant. I emphasised that it was a special occasion and with it also being Father’s Day and us coming with my elderly parents I wanted to be sure of getting a table. I was assured it wouldn’t be a problem - if we came at 12 noon when they open we’d have our choice of the garden tables. Arrived today to be told they were fully booked and without a booking there’s no way they could accommodate us. Asked if we could eat in the bar or the beer garden instead and were told this wasn’t possible because there wasn’t enough food 🤔🤷♀️ They did give us a free round of drinks as an apology and suggested other local places to eat but of course being Father’s Day everywhere else was also fully booked. Needless to say we won’t be bothering with a trip down memory lane again in the future.

Terrible. The hamburger was a dry party on a bum with no sauce -- not even butter. The coleslaw was virtually mayonaise-free. It cost £14. A £2 McDonald tasted better. A pint of lager and a line cordial cost £8.50. Never again.

A lovely setting in an ornate English Village. We were staying at the local campsite and decided to call in for a drink. The service was fine but the prices were frankly ridiculous! A SMALL Merlot 125ml was a staggering £11, £6.50 for a pint… I actually went back to the bar as I was sure they had charged us incorrectly. I was assured that they had recently put their prices up ‘a bit’. Such a shame as we went back into the village the following evening and made sure we didn’t call in for a drink. We are regular visitors as we only live 40 minutes away so a perfect and convenient spot for us to stay for a weekend but will never go back unless they drastically review the prices. Just for comparison, my local pub charges £4.60 for a small glass of Merlot and just £7.20 for a large. Management, review your prices!

I have tried to explain, for the benefit of readers, the dire consequences of Brexit for the hospitality industry. I have been running hotels and restaurants for 40 years, so I know whereof I speak. The Old Bell has accumulated a raft of complaints about surly and untrained staff, lack of customer service skills, etc. These are problems running all the way through the industry, and people need to confront the fact that not a single aspect of life in the UK has improved since we left (or semi-left, I should say) the EU. However, the moment you mention any of this on Trip Advisor, the ayatollahs who monitor the site will shut you down. What does that tell you?

We had to walk through the lovely old pub full of atmosphere to the beautifully decorated dining room which could have been any stylish restaurant in the country apart from the terrible 1980s art on the walls and zero atmosphere. We were then given the bar menus to choose from which had no starters, so it was fish and chips or pies all round, good traditional pub food without feeling we were in an historic pub. Yet the branded pots on our plates containing small quantities of mushy peas and condiments made it very hard to add them to the meal. By contrast the dessert menu was extensive and the portions generous. The service was polite and efficient. Several of us felt we would rather have ordered what we saw at home on the restuarant menu that was explained away as a problem with not being able to take it down off the website.

We had lunch here, from the Summer Kitchen menu. It was superb value for money. We had a meat platter and a fish platter plus kids meal. The platters were amazing; the meat platter had various meats (beef, 2 sorts of ham, chorizo, prosciutto, salami plus 2 potions of pate, brie, cheddar, bread, olives and pickled onions. For £20 it was great value and would feed 2 people comfortably. The fish platter was also substantial though not as much as the meat one. Both were good quality food well prepared and reasonably priced. I have been to ‘cheaper’ pubs where the platters are a bit of a rip off. Have to add that the service was impeccable. All in all highly recommend.

Beautiful summer evening and though we would wander down for dinner. What a letdown, the previously lovely well tended garden has gone to pot, as has the food & service. Even the amazing location could not deter. We ordered gammon which literally was 3 slices of bacon, and the rest of meal overcooked. I ordered Katsu chicken curry, completely bland over cooked tough as old boots, even the rice was watery ! We paid £36 for the 2 meals and quite possibly the worst meal we have had. On top of this the staff are unfriendly, no hand sanitiser in the containers . All in all a complete waste of money and a ruined summers evening,

Throughout the evening we found the staff polite, friendly and efficient. The menu looked really promising and I ordered salmon teriyaki with a coconut rice. I couldn’t taste any coconut and the sauce was lacking but the salmon was nicely cooked. Generally a bit dry and disappointing. My husband had steak which he said was cooked very well but he had to suggest they served a sauce as there wasn’t one included in the description on the menu. The chef accommodated this happily and we were not charged. Without it another dry meal potentially. The menu needs a revisit but I think they have the service spot on.

The inn closed for a while why they made changes where I could definitely see a change in when I came here last time. They have an outside area where you can play with your dog and there are many tables so you don’t have to worry about it being full. The customer service was excellent and most importantly I loved the food. They have a bar menu for 12-6 and a dinner menu for afterwards, they have both a kids menu and a adult menu. You can choose from both. The meal portions are a lot bigger then I expected and they have a fine selection of wine from all over the world. Booked a table online a week or so before we arrived. On arrival we were told to find a table outside, which we did as it was very quiet. A lady came and took away some used plates that were on the table. At no point did she ask what we wanted to drink.Every pub I've been to since they opened has been table service. Here, they're not sure what the craic is. We waited a good fifteen minutes and nobody came anywhere near us. Not because they were busy, they weren't, three staff standing at the bar chatting while we were trying to make some kind of eye contact. In the end I broke God knows how many covid rules and approached the bar and ordered a round. I said I wasn't sure weather it was table service, the barman said, "yeah, you're probably best just coming the bar if you want a drink."So I returned to my table, drinks in hand and waited for some menus, remember we'd pre-booked a table in the restaurant. So we waited, and we waited until my wife lost patience and shouted for some menus, which were duly brought to us. The menu bared no resemblance to that online. I understand the current situation, completely, but just let us know...Anyway, in the end we finished our drinks and walked out...I'm not sure anyone noticed. In short, I would not recommend bothering with this place until they get their act together.

It was covered in some sort of white paste and the beef was anything but rare, and quite tasteless The menu suggested you could have a side salad or chips or a mug of soup with the sandwich. Actually they meant you got a (very small) side salad with the option of chips or a mug of soup. I would have had the soup, but the sandwich was so bad, I was pleased for the chipsSupposedly you get 20% off food and drink when you download the “app” (it isn’t). I asked for it, was told I would get it, and only when I sat down later, realised I’d paid full priceLife being too short, I thought I’d use the time I could have complained to the management to warn fellow travellers to AVOID!

We booked saturday lunch for 11 and were sat alone in a large private dining room. The menu was not expansive, but tempting and we all enjoyed our meals. The staff were friendly and professional.

I had a pleasure joining friends and family for a brunch at The Olde Bell. Despite very mixed reviews, I was really happy with the quality of food, drinks and service. I was particularly impressed with one of the managers Julian, who simply couldn’t do enough for us. We felt so well looked after and attended, nothing was too much of a problem. His service was so professional, yet funny and not overwhelming. The food was really good, and it came fairly quickly. I’m actually planning to take my family out for a dinner there, as I’m sure it will be a great experience again.

Was pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of the traditional Sunday lunch we had at The Olde Bell.Having come here for the past 30 years I have been very disappointed these past couple of years. However I believe there is new management and chef!Well done! Delicious, good quality and very good service.

We stayed at The Olde bell this weekend and had breakfast and dinner on both days. We had intended on dining out the 2nd night, but as the food was so good on the Saturday night we decided to dine on both nights. The staff are also helpful and friendly which to me always makes a huge impact on the experience.

With new management, new staff, new chefs and lots of great new additions.... the Olde Bell has definitely turned a corner. We stayed on a rare weeknight break from the kids and everything was fantastic. Being in the Hotel industry myself, I was weary of previous reviews on here, but have to give credit where it's due....We were welcomed by Adrian behind the bar who served us politely, and me being me ordering hot chocolate, which was hot, yummy and perfect for this weather! When we went to check in, the girls on reception, especially Nikki, were helpful and asked if we would like some drinks brought up to our room or help with our bags. The room itself was bright, immaculately clean, and attention to detail was exactly what I like to see. The bed was huge! With soft, crisp linen..... a great nights sleep. The roll top bath in the bedroom also proved a hit with my husband, who sipped cider and watched a film on television all in the bath!Dinner was fantastic. We are both food fanatics.... so opted for the fish and seafood platter. then the lamb rump, and corn fed chicken with the mushrooms. Full of flavour and ten fold better than our visit last year. New chefs definitely showing the old bell how it's done!We will be back ASAP!

Certainly has potential but do not go on a Monday - presumably it is chef's day off. The haddock was fine but the chips were obviously saved from last night and microwaved back to life (well, an attempt.........clearly overcooked but soggy). When paying - no 'please', 'thank you' or come again just turned around and carried on with her duties. Obviously pointless to mention shortfalls so have left tip until now - get a grip!!!

We stopped here on our walk for a bite to eat and had a very poor sandwich for £8 - would recommend trying elsewhere. Thin tasteless bread with packet slices of cheese/ham. Not difficult to make a reasonable sandwich but it eluded them.

A sandwich in the lovely garden on a beautiful day, what more could one want? Clean tables would have been nice and perhaps quicker service but these seem to be the norm wherever you go nowadays. Such a shame.

We stayed for three nights whilst attending rewind festival was excellently situated for us. The hotel and grounds are lovely, rooms very clean but need a little update as does the bathroom. Staff very nice especially the bar staff. Breakfast was OK but ran out of things very quickly so had to wait. But on the whole was very good and would stay again

We had a lovely meal here last week. We both had the lamb and it was lovely. Large garden which was great as our boys loved playing on the big chess board. Also if you stay at Hurley riverside campsite you get 20% off. The beer was local from marlow brewery! Would highly recommend.

What a useless concern. No clean glasses, a wedding on across the road and they couldn’t cope. Long wait for food with a reallyuninspiring menu “sorry sir, the restaurant menu is not available until after 9.00 tonight” for a 7.30 booking. Beer rubbish, wine not available apart from an open bottle.

Absolutely lovely pub with huge gardens for the kids and giant chess to amuse them, we were a party of 9 with 4 adults and 5 children. The waitress Paloma is over from Madrid to enhance her English language skills, she did an amazing job from start to finish and they catered for us without problem. The food was lovely, reasonably priced and all arrived at the same time, which can be unusual for a group this size.

We took up the diamond package that involved us taking all 44 bedrooms, the Malt House and the Tithe Barn for our special day. The wedding could not have been any better or gone any more smoothly. The Tithe Barn was perfect for an intimate and beautiful ceremony for our 120 guests. The registrar from Maidenhead was efficient and positive, as she made sure we felt comfortable about the legal part of the ceremony. The staff were calm and collected as they helped cajole all of the guests into the right places at the right times. They never added any stress to the occasion and they really understood the relaxed environment we wanted the experience to be. They allowed us to select all of our own music and they then took control of the logistics required without any errors or worries.

So please let me set the scene: I had booked a table for my wedding anniversary and as part of the booking, I had explained to them it was our anniversary. I was asked to confirm my booking 3 days before which I did. When we arrived, there were no tables made, there were no other diners and one member of staff working. He asked us to wait while started to make up a table in a room that had quite clearly just been used as a reception as it was filthy and chaotic. He told us that there was a 'limited menu' because they were short staffed. They weren't short staffed, they had a wedding on and didn't bother to tell us. They were in fact so busy with the wedding that they had clearly no intention of honouring our reservation. The 'limited menu' consisted of sandwiches and paninis. Remember, I had told them it was our wedding anniversary. They knew they had a wedding function on, so surely you would assume that they would have the decency to let prebooked customers know about it. Instead there were no tables prepared, no service, no food, truley appalling. My poor wife was in tears. I have never experienced anything like this and this place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, disgusting way to treat customers.

What an awful experience, we ordered three dishes from the outside kitchen. One was not delivered and the other two were shadows of what was ordered. Overpriced, misleading description on menu, super slow service by staff who couldn’t careless. I raised my concerns but there was no management! Only blank faces.... I cannot believe the place is in business at all. I cannot say anything positive except the garden was nice to wait in.....

So we've had a drink previously in the garden and the setting was very nice, so we thought lunch would be a good bet here. Ummmmm how wrong could we have been, I ordered the pork in a bun with chips and a tomato and onion salad........the pork in the bun was a slab of pork chop in a dry bun, the tomato and onion salad was two tomatoes cut into quarters with a shaving of red onion, there must have been a potato blight in Hurley that day as the amount of chips that turned up did not exceed the amount of fingers on one hand. Quality and quantity was very much missing here! The rest of our party ordered the chicken and charred corn, so the chicken was cooked but the skin was sloppy and had touched as much of a flame as the artic circle.....the charred corn had seen most of its life inside a tin can without seeing a bbq before hitting the plates!

Our group gathered in the garden for drinks which was a really lovely place on a warm sunny day. Our orders were taken and when we sat to eat the starters were promptly brought out. I could not fault the food, we had the chicken ballotine and I followed with fish and chips, the fish was melt in the mouth scrumptious, but the piece de resistance was the desert, chef's special cheesecake sphere - died and gone to heaven.

We only called in for a beer and were happy to wait to be served given lunchtime rush. Mystified by barman’s response to person in front who asked for non Diet Coke only to be told that the sugar tax means they only sell Diet Coke. We asked for Stella 4 but barrel needed changing so we’re asked if we could have bud instead, which we didn’t. Bloke behind bar was clearly rushed off his feet but result was a totally shambolic and not very inviting experience. Lovely building and beer tasted good but given the suites staff and poor service, not for us.

I have stayed here, eaten here and used the bar. A very charming old hotel, with modern hotel rooms set in the car park. Great breakfast and a good evening menu. If you just want to stop for a pint there is a huge beer garden and in the summer an outside bar.

well having read some of the more negative reviews for the hotel, i wasn’t sure what to expect .. however, the negative reviews are just nothing we experienced, to the contrary - all the staff were absolutely brilliant. on hand to attend to matters, Anneleise worked tirelessly and ensured our 2 night stay was totally spot. the rooms are warm and cost, clean -serviced in the day there’s a cosy feel and whilst we only had the breakfast as we were in windsor to visits friends, the food was plentiful it is a great position for anywhere you need to be in than that area, not far from the motorway and not on busy roads would we go back - yes, for the value for money and staff friendless it’s 5/5 from us 👍

My friend and I found this little gem of a place by chance while in the area Geocaching. This place was so good! With a warm welcoming atmosphere. The management and staff were friendly and courteous throughout. It has a beautiful outdoor garden with a lovely aroma and a paved area with tables under a trellis with foliage, it is pretty, and just opposite the river Thames. They also have a playground nearby with a small crazy golf. The breakfast was value for money. With no frills and no fuss, everything is freshly cooked to order. Great location with good parking £5 for the whole day We will certainly be back when in the area again
