This charming restaurant used to be excellent - maybe it has changed hands. We arrived at 1.30pm and waited and waited to be served in the bar/restaurant no one came so my husband had to tour around until he found someone. Served drinks and handed menus. Another long wait while she informed only other table occupied of what was not available. Eventually we placed our order and waited...................50 mins - I wish we had given up because my Lasagne was the worse I had ever had - plain lumps of mince no flavourings at all - no bechamel type sauce then just topped with loads of stringy overcooked cheese. Garlic bread had missed the garlic entirely . My husband had the steak pie - it looked OK but again the meat was cooked entirely without any flavouring at all. We decided to abandon it and pay up quickly. Easier said than done- couldn't find anyone to pay. Went into the main bar - no one ! we waited ............another man came in and waited etc then he went round shouting and banging on doors to try and raise someone. The cook ?? appeared very annoyed - we quickly paid and left. We will never go there again

Great pub in a quiet location with nice walks and great food. We stopped over in our motorhome on Sunday and ordered a Sunday roast. The roast was one of the best we have ever had, and washed down with nice real ale was heaven. We was able to stay over for free because we had food at the pub. What could be better, great place to stay and eat

I've always loved this pub, first went aged 1 with parents, though can't remember it. Been many times but this was the first for 10 years and it didn't disappoint. It's a gorgeous 600 year old building set in the Romney Marshes of Kent, with low beams, roaring fires and more homely for it. We had lunch, starter of fresh devilled whitebait, so good, my 8 year old son simply demolished his plate and came for mine. Local Lamb shank, slow cooked the meat fell off the bone, beg and mash of highest quality. The Chicken and Leak pie was, according to my wife, wonderful, and full of flavour. Stocking the full range of Shepherd Neame beers, local too, being a SN pub I guess that's obvious, but really good beers none the less. Very well priced for the quality and the service. It won't be 10 years till we go again.

We were driving home from a day out and needed to find somewhere for dinner. Google suggested the Woolpack so we went there. Thank goodness for Google. The welcome was warm, and the food excellent. We had the haddock and chips special and the Prawn Marie Rose salad. Having not eaten for most of the day we were ravenous and devoured them. The salad was fabulous with lots of lovely things included. The only issue for me was the coleslaw that had a bit too much mayo, but that is a personal thing. The fish and chips were bang on. We don't often drive that way home, but now have more of a reason for doing so.

My Son and two Grandchildren came across the Woolpack Inn purely by chance .... It dates back to 1410 AD and has kept its charm in every sense of the meaning .. The staff were helpful and attentive...... We enjoyed our meal which were classic pub Cuisine .. Large, tasty portions and served with a smile... However, if you want a typical Sunday Roast we learnt that you need to be sat by mid day.. As it sells out very quickly..

By far our favourite place to go, decent portions and great value. My favourite is the roast dinner, gravy is just so delicious so much so I always ask for extra! But I tried the homemade chilli con carne at the weekend from the specials board and that was possibly the best I’ve ever had! Really friendly staff and just a lovely little place to unwind in.

Have read some very scathing reviews about this place and frankly I don't know why? The welcome when 6 of us walked in was good the staff had to move a couple of tables around to accommodate us which was done without any trouble. Our drinks order was taken at the table and then after time to pick our meal choice was also taken again with out any trouble. The food when it arrived was fantastic. All together a thoroughly enjoyable experience and if my wife and I lived closer we'd definitely visit again thank you Woolpack. 😋👍😀💂‍♂️

Had an excellent Sunday lunch. Charming old pub, with log fire. Very well cooked and well presented roast dinner. Plenty of roast ham/gammon, we counted 5 or 6 veggies, roast pot's and a big Yorkshire. Excellent Shepherd Neame Spitfire on draft. My daughter had the kids Scampi and left a clean plate (very rare for her!) Had only visited once before for a regular weekday lunch, that was very good too - (btw) I'm a British expat returning on family visit, rather than an American tourist. Having lived in Hastings my whole life, I have driven past this pub countless times on my way elsewhere. This weekend however, my fella and I were just having a ride around on our motorbike and decided to actually stop for lunch. I had been looking at reviews of places to eat in the area, and this was one of the few pubs that still offered very good 'pub grub' at reasonable prices (rather than 'frilly food' in a puddle!) We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming, and the gardens well kept with lots of tables. It was a beautiful hot day, so we ate outside where the high hedges around the gardens meant that even on a windy day it would be sheltered. The food was excellent - I opted for the chicken & bacon suet pie with new potatos and veg and my fella the shortcrust steak & ale pie with chips peas and gravy. The portions were generous and everything was nice and hot. We did want to sample the desserts, but we didn't have the capacity on this occasion. Never mind, we'll just have to come back! :)

Absolutely everything on the plate was amazing. We started with Whitebait, it was so good and would have been sufficient on it's own, the salad accompanying it was fresh and crunchy. The main course of roast pork was tender and all the vegetables cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes you would find difficult to improve on - well done the Woolpack, I'm just waiting for someone to take me back again!

Ordered was pork steaks and mix grill. I’ve been coming here for years and love the place. However this is my first bad review for them . My pork streaks though large were extremely tough and chewy which I finished up dealing for my partners sausages on his mixed grill. These were very overcooked with a skin so crispy they broke the sausages into piece instead of being able to cut or slice the. The lamb chop was good and tasty but the chicken thigh was like a children chicken dipper thin and hard skin. The peppercorn sauce was gravy with just peppercorn in and tasteless. Service wasn’t great as was not asked at any time until the meal was finished if everything was ok. However good points we didn’t have to pay for the mix grill, if left my jacket when we went and kindly the waitress run out into car park to return it. I’m hoping that this experience is now not the norm and I will be trying it again due to the many times we have enjoyed this place

What can I say.....I had raved about this pub to my husband as I and all my family have used it regularly for over 40 years. We rang and booked for the next day making sure that we could have the dressed crab as it used to be sensational. All booked for 1h00. We arrived to be told 'no crab'...no apologies no nothing. We decided to stay and order from the main menu moules marinier for my husband and BBQ burger for me. My burger was like an overcooked hockey puck thrown on the plate with chips that must have been recooked a good few times as they were solid - no side salad just a miserable burger. My husbands mussels were equally disappointing we were convinced that the mussels were out of a packet and thrown on top of a bit of sauce with dried parsley. Apologies if this is not the case but I have cooked mussels many times and frankly it's not hard! The service, can't really complain but a smile would have been nice. Oh and don't think you will be getting the government deal cos you're not - we did know that in advance but were quite happy to pay full price for what we wanted to eat. Such a shame

Decided to come to the Woolpack for an anniversary meal for our grandparents at about 2pm. Upon first entry it is a little confusing how to get in as there are two doors through the first door, but once in it feels so cosy and homely. There were 5 of us and we hadn't made any reservations but there were plenty of spare tables free. After approaching staff asking for a table for 5, we were told they only had tables of four available (by which there were plenty) and that we would have to wait which seemed strange. After suggesting we could just add a chair at the end of the table, staff were more than happy to accommodate. The menu has a range of home cooked food to choose from which was nice, as apose to just typical pub food. We went for two lots of battered cod (£12.95), steak and ale pie (£11.25), lamb shank (£15.95), and gammon steak (£12.95). The wait was not long, and when the food arrived we were amazed at how big the portions were! The gammon steak was a hefty size and came with chips, mushrooms, tomatoes, egg, peas and onion rings and was definitely the best value for money dish from our table. The rest of our dishes were also very good portion wise and tasted wonderful. We were looked after throughout our meal from attentive staff. We will definitely be coming back and introducing more people to this lovely little pub!

Having eaten here many times before we found tonight’s meal/experience very disappointing. We went in to the restaurant area as had my 7yr old with us but it was so cold we decided to move round in to the main bar area, which again was cold although fire was going. Another couple eating still had their coats on. We placed our orders and food came out after a short wait. We hadn’t been given any cutlery or condiments before food arrived. Food was put down in front of us & we were asked if we would like sauces, I replied yes & please can we have cutlery. Cutlery was brought out but just plonked on table along with sauces. We wasn’t asked once if food was okay or if we needed another drink. Food was lovely but much smaller portions and I had scampi which normally came with peas & salad but it only came with peas. Prices have gone up quiet a bit. Not sure we would return as although staff where polite they were not attentive. Only a handful of people eating not busy at all for a Saturday night. Very disappointing as always had great meals here before.

We had high hopes for lunch at The Woolpack Inn, but were extremely disappointed, rating it one of our worst meals of our two months in the UK.While the portions were plentiful, the presentation was not at all appealing. We shared the Garlic Mushrooms to start and yes, the mushrooms were good, but they were accompanied by half a "ghastly brown baguette" (as another reviewer so aptly put it) and a handful of salad with no dressing. For mains we had a jacket potato with chili and cheese which was good, again accompanied by a handful of salad with no dressing, as well as a trio of korker sausages which came with a huge portion of chunky chips (frozen) and peas. On a cold and raining day, we expected The Woolpack to be a cozy haven and offer oodles of charm. Not the case, unfortunately and the dining area was cold as there was no fire. The staff was friendly and service was good, but not enough to save such a disappointing experience. I would hesitate to try another Shepherd Neame pub if this is an example of their offering.

The Woolpack Inn is a traditional country pub out on the marshes. It feels like the middle of nowhere but it's really not far from Rye and several villages so it is usually full of locals. Not a 'gastro-pub' like you'd find in London but the food is assuredly good, you get local beers and the service is homey and friendly. The nostalgic Romney Marsh Wartime Museum - the RAF had a huge presence in this area - is nearby. Very British!

We visited The Woolpack with 18 of us to celebrate a 50th birthday. We had lots of young children with us too. The staff were the thing that really stood out, they were helpful, chatty and happy. The food was good, all came out very quickly especially considering how many of us there were, all tasty but be warned the portions are huge!!Had a lovely visit and will be returning. Thank you

Went back here today after a few years and it was still as good as ever. Lovely staff made us welcome with a really good menu in fact so much choice. The food was excellent in fact my son had lamb and mint suet pudding which he said was fantastic with loads of veg etc. Overall the four of us came full after superbly flavoursome food look forward to going back again soon. Thank you

We popped in here yesterday for Sunday lunch.... I ordered homemade steak ale pie and hubby ordered beerburger. We also had a glass of wine and a cider. Restaurant was nice, cosy. Staff were excellent and friendly. Food was okay. Steak and Ale pie had nice meat in it and pastry was good. It came with mash and three veg. Mash was tasteless and cabbage was colourless. I prefer veg served separate so you can choose what you like. I liked the graey came in a jug. Beefburger hubby said okay. Overall would definitely revisit .

This is a traditional and popular English pub. The interior hasn’t changed much in over 50 years! Uneven floors are charming but not great for the elderly and infirm so watch out when you go through the door! The service is friendly and reasonably efficient. Unfortunately the menu has too great a variety of dishes so they don’t seem to do anything really well. There’s nothing wrong with the food except for lack of flavour. One would expect Chicken Kiev to taste a bit garlicky and Lemon Meringue Pie to taste of lemons but they don’t!

Country pubs these days often have an exterior that implies olde world charm inside but on entering you find all original features have been ripped out, open plan cafeteria style and a cold atmosphere. Not this one. Higgledy piggledy floors, wooden furniture and beams (duck). Back this up with a nice welcome and a good selection of real ales and I was in heaven already. We arrived unannounced 5pm on a Sunday. It was virtually empty but there were a lot of staff on duty. Not long after we arrived the pub began to fill up. A pint of Whistable went down very well (had to have another later). My pot of moules mariniere were plump and absolutely delicious (although I prefer the onion chopped small rather than large slices). Clean plates for the rest of our group and onto desserts, all polished off. The bill was very reasonable. Staff efficient and friendly and by the time we left there was a good atmosphere. Would call in regular if we lived here although we made a 40 mile round trip to visit this time from our holiday accommodation.

From the outside this place looks amazing we honestly thought we would be in for a treat, was going to have a jacket potato but not sure when it’s over £8.00 for just one filling went for the chilli which was the blandest thing I had eaten in a while. My partner had the ploughman’s, no pate or slice of pie he had to even pay extra for ham!.Food quality here is bad everyone was poor quality, I guess all from booker wouldn’t go back.

Stopped by this pub on our way back from Ashford, been before and the food was lovely, we ordered the prawn baguette and ham and cheese baguette and some cheesy chips. Absolutely delicious and not expensive, really friendly staff, dog friendly (which is a must for us), beautiful and old inside the pub oozing with history and charm. Will recommend.

Found this pub years ago and enjoyed our lunch but could not remember where it was. Luckily we found it again and had lunch here today. We arrived just before cut off at 14.30 so did not have much time to make our choice so we went for the homemade steak and ale pie. I have never seen such a large pie, it was delicious and my husband had to finish it off for me.

Hadn't had much joy before in finding a decent traditional old pub (INSIDE as well as the outside!) in the area but came across this little treasure by chance. The food was great & well presented. The only slightly disappointing aspect was the limited selection of bitter / cask ales which I would have expected / hoped a lovely old country pub like this would have offered - a common complaint these days I afraid! But that didn't spoil the experience and look forward to visiting this charming place again soon.

We stopped off on our journey to Camber Sands for a spot of lunch. This little Inn is a MUST for food, ambience and service. Sunday lunch had stopped by the time we got there but the main menu was still available. The waitress was very helpful and helped us choose from the varied menu.. When the food arrived it was plentiful and tasty.

These is our favourite place to have a delicious dinner. Their steaks are always my husband's pick. I have tried more varieties and they are all delicious. We have tried many places to eat and they are never consistence with their standard (in all areas: food and services) but we are never disappointed with this place. Hope they keep their standard.

We had a delightful meal here after a day exploring Romney Marsh. It is very small so you might want to book ahead for a meal. On the other hand, there is a gorgeous garden, ideal for enjoying in the good weather. Service was friendly. My mother and I both had the lamb shank. It was delicious - tender and perfectly cooked in a wonderful sauce with new potatoes and vegetables. My father had the gammon and loved every bite. Well worth a visit.

Been here a few times, had some good meals, banged my head on the door too many times...... Called again for a weekday lunch - very friendly and pretty crowded. Table in the restaurant - around the back - but by a window and a warm radiator. My wife ordered Sausage and Mash (with Veg) while I ordered the beef lasagne I had enjoyed there before, served with a baguette. Both meals were pretty good, although I did mention that the baguette that I was served had a rather musty taste - and i left it. Both meals cost £9.95, which is up on what was being charged last year but still reasonable value for money. We did baulk at the desserts at a flat rate of £5.95, and a we felt that a plain jacket potato with cheese on offer at £8.50 was pushing it a bit.
