The cafe itself was friendly and the food pretty good but the toilet was disgusting. I’m surprised the Environmental Health department haven’t closed it down. Decaying wood and filth in the only toilet area was very off putting. I will not be bringing anyone back here. I was embarrassed and dismayed at the lack of care and attention in this small cafe. The Nutmeg needs some love.. but that is clearly in the ‘too hard department’ for the owner.

Not overly impressed.Food was ok but served by the chef whowas not wearing a mask and my husbands comment on the waitress (owner?) of ‘I don’t know why some people choose a career in dealing with customers when they have zero interest’ just about sums our visit up.Was busy though - maybe we’re just not ‘local’ enough yet.... ‍♀️

Ten minutes later we were still waiting to be served so left the cafe. There are many great cafes in Hythe, this one needs to up its game, encouraging their staff to not chat around the till area or on the phone would be a great start.

So I popped my head round the door and asked if they were open. The server looked round and then made eye contact and said “clearly we are, we have customers “ ... sarcasm I find is best served when you are not front of house. The Black Pudding on Bubble & Squeak with fired eggs and a sweet chutney was excellent. I have been going to the Nutmeg Café for a while now. I have always found the café to have a cosy welcoming atmosphere. It is child and dog friendly which is a huge bonus. Although it can be a little cramped at times when it is busy this does not detract from the charm of the place. Service can appear to be a little slow at times, but this is usually when it is busy. The food is all freshly prepared so we are willing to wait. It may seem a little pricey initially but compared to other food places in the area it is comparable, and the food is excellent. The cakes especially are delicious. Will definitely carry on going there.

Well, despite the fact that the member of staff was heard to say "It's been quiet today", it was still necessary to attract their attention, having sat with my companion for some time being ignored. We then ordered tea (no apology for keeping us waiting). I asked for soya milk and was told they did not have soya despite the fact that it was on the menu (no apology). The cups were delivered promptly but we needed to ask for a replacement as one of them was stained brown (no apology). I was unhappy with the service and shared this with my companion and if the hushed whispers and frequent glances in my direction from the staff members were anything to go by, they had picked up on my discontent. Too bad. For this, I offer no apology.

Unusual to find places that welcome animals, but here is one that does. While eating breakfast I had three dogs sitting in front of me and one beside me. During the time I was there I count 5 animals. I like dogs but not in a restaurant. Cooking here is good although scrambled eggs over-whipped and not seasoned. Pepper pot on table clogged. Nice mushrooms and fine sausage with good bacon (but could have had another 5 minutes but under the grill). Grilled tomato underwhelming and the whole plate awash with water probably from the mushrooms - who knows. But a satisfying breakfast nonetheless. Great toast - quality bread. Dreadful astringent espresso. Fine home made cakes here, very well baked and large variety. Their bakewell cake is extraordinary (it’s like the tart but without the pastry)

Called in for a bite of lunch and found a table on our second visit - it was busy, if rather steamed up due to condensation on the windows. We ordered ciabattas and coffee - and were disappointed that the ciabattas just came on a bare plate with no garnish or other accompaniments. They weren't really properly warmed through either - the cheese in one hadn't really melted at all, and the roasted vegetables in the other were still cold. They really would have tasted a lot better if they'd been heated through before being toasted. The waitress was pleasant enough, and the decor comfortable - but it all looked and felt just a little tired and under par.

With cold start to the year many shop windows can get steamed up by the heat inside. Same for cafes.Almost walked straight by this place, as it looked like one of those empty shop units where they cover the windows with a wipe so you can't see in.It seems a busy cafe. Feels cosy. Seems to get a mix of locals and visitors. Your order is taken at the table though this is not obvious when you first walk in.Coffee is very good. The cakes look quite inviting though the display could be more enticing. It's also a very tight squeeze around here, the passageway being used by staff carrying food out or finished plates back, and customers wanting to pay. A bit of commonsense and courtesy seem to make it work.My only observation would be to improve the consistency of service, especially at busy times. Some customers got welcomed in with a smile, some were not acknowledged as quickly. Some customers had the range of cakes explained to them, some not. I also like it when staff say something as they bring your order to the table. Even if its "Here's your coffee and heres your ham salad" in a friendly voice. It happened with some, not with all. They're clearly doing many things right. I'd just like to see more consistency in service (and keep ensuring the food is good).Prices seem reasonable for the area so worth giving it a try.

Parked the car no more than a 2 or3 minute walk to the tea room After waiting for at least 30 mins my wife Went to the counter to ask where our food was. Was greeted with 'oh sorry'and they went of to see where it was (supposedly)we then waited a further 15 mins . It was obvious that we had been forgotten . Or they had to go and kill. Butcher. And cook the bacon. Can't think why a sandwich could take so long . Should have known better after using the tea room in Ashford . 20 mins to warm up two scones . We where the only people in there. Haven't tried the Tenterden branch and not likely to any time soon . So if you visit The Nutmeg Tearoom Hythe where customer service is a remote foreign language . And you have parked in paid park . We hadn't been to this cafe before but our friends had so we decided to have lunch here today together. On entering the cafe it looked very nice and I thought we were in for a treat. The specials looked good as did the menu but first reaction was a bit pricey. However, we ordered what we fancied and were looking forward to it. The jacket potatoes were small and the accompanying salad was poor and in short supply, standard lettuce, tomato, cucumber and red onion. Food tasted good but just wasn't enough of it! To finish we decided to have some cake to fill us up. Pleased to see that dietary needs were being met and we had 2 x normal cake and 2 x vegan - again, very tasty but in short supply. Three of us were served and we waited for the fourth piece of cake to materialize but after waiting quite a while my friend decided to ask for it at the counter. The young lady was quite short with my friend and he returned to the table feeling quite comfortable. The waitress bought it over to us and there was no apology or customer service. We did also feel that the young lady was quite inappropriately dressed in short shorts and felt this wasn't really acceptable dress for the venue or customers. The tables was quite uncomfortable for one of our party as he is very tall and he struggled sitting there as he was unable to get his legs underneath or stretch out in the space available. It is quite crammed and not a lot of space either.

My friend and I had a delicious brunch in this delightfully run cafe. We sat on the sofa and were served perfectly poached eggs with a very generous portion of smoked salmon with a delicious Hollandaise warm sauce coating,Our tea was hot and of good quality.Being dog friendly was a huge bonus too!Definitely recommend and next time I’m visiting from the East Midlands will want to go back ! Good luck to the new chef !!

We have been coming here for a long time, but this visit was dissappointing to say the least.Americano coffee was poor quality and very little flavour.Earl Grey tea was very weak with no flavour, but hot.I complained when paying, but was told that that Earl Grey was the usual tea and that she was sorry. Not good enough reason to return.Hythe has many good coffee lounges which we will visit in future.

This small cafe, only 2 dozen or so covers, serves some of the best cakes we have come across. Tea is also of very good quality, and service is good. We go every time we visit Hythe, Kent.

Came here after staying in a local hotel. We had gone past the day before and as it looked so busy we thought we'd give it a try. It was busy when we got there but a table became available pretty much straight away. Really quaint place, with old school tables and chairs. Good breakfast and lunch options, and it was pretty reasonable. I had scrambled egg with chorizo and toast and my fiancé had the full English. We had a coffee and cappuccino too. It took quite a while to get our drinks and what seemed like an age for breakfast. But I couldn't fault the food once it arrived. The chorizo was very tasty and spicy, probably the best I've had for a while. Great fresh bread too. You have to pay at the till, whilst queuing I was eyeing up the cakes. I couldn't have chosen as they all looked so good. If I was visiting the area again I would come back for sure.

We decided on the Nutmeg for breakfast mainly because my husband wanted bubble and squeak and black pudding. We also order a full English, coffee and a tea. The coffee was very strong, so strong my husband had to put milk in it. The breakfasts were lukewarm but tasty. The beans were very hot though as I believe they had just come out of the microwave. Possibly could do with warming the plates before serving the food. Good quality products are used. The staff were friendly and the price was reasonable although possibly a little high.

Tried this new place for Sunday brunch as it was one the only place open other than pubs. What a pleasant surprise. The food was fresh wholesome and homemade plus an all day breakfast menu. Staff friendly and obliging. Very generous pots of tea. Cakes looked good but we were too stuffed after lunch to try. Need to be aware of parking restrictions and access to the High Street.

We went to this cafe for a pot of tea and tea cake. All was good until the cups came. My wife found a wee something stuckbon the side of her cup... these things happen.. but when we looked underneath the cup it looked like it had not been touched for awhile. When this was pointed out to the staff it was changed quickly and without fuss. Apart from this thae tea and tea cake were good and a reasonable price.

This was a great spot for a snack while we wandered around Hythe. We sat in the little courtyard outside, a nice sheltered but sunny spot full of greenery. Our food was good (hot chocolates, cappuccinos, a ploughman's platter to share, and cakes) and the service was very friendly and helpful. One of the best parts of our visit was that we could bring our dog inside too!

We decided to go here for our Sunday breakfast/brunch. We got here just after 10 and got the second to last big table by the window. There is a good variety to choice from to your traditional fry up to eggs benedict. The food was lovely and tasty and not greasy and the staff were nice and friendly. The only thing I would say that lets it down is the tables and chairs, where we are tall (5ft 11) the ledge under the table meant we couldn't put our legs under the table comfortably so you wanted to leave quite quickly after you had eaten which is a shame as we would probably ordered more if we were comfortable.

Have visited this tea room on many occasions and have always had good service and food, but is a bit pricy. The staff are friendly. However this time I noticed a dog was brought in and I don't think dogs should be allowed inside where food is served as its not very hygienic. I will visit again and hope no dogs are present.

After taking in some NYD sea air my other half and I decided to drive along from Folkestone to Hythe to see if we could stop by cosy pub for a quick drink. We parked up and wondered along to the Globe Inn. Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the Landlady who wished us a Happy New Year and sat us next to the log fire. No food was available but we overheard the owners offering to cook Fish and Chips for a couple who had also popped into the pub. I've never written a review before but this old school proper High Street pub deserves a mention and a reminder to everyone why we need to keep our local pubs alive. An unexpected surprise and a place we will definitely drop by again. Well Done!

We were a party of 6 for Christmas dinner. We had generous and tasty cocktails to start. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Iced water arrived without us having to ask. The staff checked with us before serving each course. The food was plentiful and delicious. We all went traditional: prawn cocktails followed by turkey. Everything was perfectly cooked. Puddings were great too - Christmas puddings and cheese cakes. Highly recommend.

Always liked the atmosphere at the master brewer. Nice location with duck pond near by and free parking. Had a really good time for a friend's birthday recently but the only issue is they were running out of drinks... To the point I had a vodka lemonade with more vodka than lemonade because they were running out of mixer. I wasn't complaining but it was a curious situation to be in. Regardless of the lack of supply the bar staff were friendly and accommodating. In the words of Arnie in the terminator... I'll be back

Something different & refreshing for New Romney town. A nice looking bar, plenty of drink options, good music & comfortable seating. When I visited it was mid week and basically empty, but still a good atmosphere. A nice young lady was serving our drinks, hello on arrival, goodbye on leaving. Reasonably priced, would visit again.
