Brilliant service and lovely food. Lovely setting downstairs I really love this restaurant

One of the few places you can get a last minute table. Soon to find why. The food looks nice on the website and a far cry from what’s you are presented with. Tiny tinned carrots, unpeeled roasted potatoes with no discernible flavour that taste reheated. Frozen beans, the meat was awful tough and flavourless. Staff not interested if you enjoyed it just if you finished. Was looking at the steak night but will pass given this charade. The basement smells damp

We visited for sunday lunch, I had the lamb and my husband had the beef, both were chewy and dry. The carrots they were either frozen or tinned, green beans frozen and roast potatoes were inedible. We were asked within minutes of the food arriving if everything was ok at which point we hadn’t really started eating. The plates still had most of the meat, and potatoes on when they went back to the kitchen but no comment was made. We sat in the basement which is very quaint but it smelt and felt damp perhaps due to the heavy rainfall we had, had but could’ve done with a dehumidifier Sadly this place has so much potential but it just wasn’t good we can now see why it’s often empty when we pass

Perhaps we were unlucky but the liver was over cooked (dry and quite tough) and the vegetables beyond el dente, which was a shame because this pleasant little restaurant could do better.

Steak was terrible.was very chewy like was cooked before, and only pre heated for us. Drinks were properly done. Staff was ok, but I think the owner wasn’t very happy, when I told him about the steak

Disappointing steak night. Had mussels as a starter tasted if they were out of a packet. Steak itself was nice but the tomatoes, mushrooms and peas were tasteless as if cooked from frozen. Will not be returning

Had Sunday roast for 5 to celebrate birthday. Table was waiting and laid up. The waitress was aware of our arrival and was quick to take drink and food order. Food appeared for all within 5 mins of ordering. The meal was enjoyed by all. Thank you.

Hadn't been to Sandgate Vaults for a while but it was wonderful as always! Cosy downstairs setting and the steak night is unbelievable value, it includes 2 steak meals and a lovely bottle of wine for £29. The owner told us that the waitress was on her own due to staff illness but she did a fantastic job, the owner is very attentive too. Thank you for a lovely Friday night!

Best value for money Sunday lunch locally. The food is well cooked the staff friendly and very atmospheric in the vaults. Sunday is particularly busy understandably and the staff can be very occupied, but much better than being shovelled out as soon as possible as in some restaurants. In the week there are menus featured each day also highly recommended.

Lovely Sunday lunch here Generous portions of very tasty food Lovely Staff and atmosphere Sat in the downstairs restaurant which had its own bar and lots of staff so didn’t feel neglected being away from the main area upstairs. Also really close to the sea for a stroll to walk off the calories

Just had the most amazing value roast in years for £12.00!! What can I say - lots of beautiful meat, beautifully cooked, amazing roast potatoes, lots of veg - rarity these days - cabbage, green beans, carrots, amazing tasty gravy. What a treat! Service fantastic and kind welcoming hosts. Regulars from now on!!

This place is absolutely amazing. I booked a meal for my husband’s birthday. We came here as the reviews seemed good and I had heard good comments through word of mouth. We found, the place was superb, far better than I had expected. We had a meal downstairs which was so rustic and atmospheric. The main points however were the staff. Honestly, we were treated like friends. They literally were so friendly and helpful and could not do enough for us. And the food was amazing. The portion sizes were huge. Honestly could not rate this place higher and will definitely be coming back. Thanks guys, keep doing what you do because it’s definitely working.

Assumed I'd rated this place already. Ready friendly, very decent, great prices. These guys have got it right. Can see the effort and work that is put in to running this place. A must visit if in Sandgate. Good idea to book in advance.

Staff and people are really lovely, but upstairs is really really bright like a dentists - really off-putting to go in, and downstairs more atmospheric, but doesn't feel very clean. Food is ok and very well priced - but menu is absolutely huge and there's no way you can cook great food with that much on there. Would be great if they toned down upstairs, spruced up downstairs and slimmed down their menu to a few great dishes

We visited friends who have recently moved to Sandgate and they chose this restaurant, and we were pleased they did. We had a table downstairs which was nice and private. The food was good fairly simple and well done. My wife and I both had the warm Camembert with cranberry sauce, which was good. For mains my wife had the grilled chicken in white wine sauce, which she said was delicious. I had the steak and Stilton pie, which was also very good. When we arrived they apologised that service would be slower than normal as a large table had arrived late. Although we were hungry we didn’t mind as we were happy to not be rushed. The waitress’s were very friendly and efficient. The price was good value for what we had. We would definitely return.

Paid our first visit to this lovely restaurant, we had the steak night special which came to the table cooked as asked. Staff very good and service too was good. The only downside to our visit was the very and extremely loud table next to us with one extremely raucous man who ket swearing. For us this ruined our evening. Feel the man manager should have dealt with this with immediate effect as instead he kept continuously looking out of the door to the detriment of other guests. Thankyou for the lovely though.

came in for dinner with my family which was very nice,the food was awesome the service was good. waitress seemed very friendly and attentive. the only let down was I assime the owner who was greeting at the door and he was walking around coughing horrifically. if he had served us our food it would have been very outputting. please don't come in like that. or go to the doctors. you are serving food and that's not healthy.

Good food, friendly service. It deserves better custom

We took Dad here for a birthday lunch, today. The Sunday roast was really good with generous portion sizes and the chocolate Bailey's cheesecake was delicious. For five the bill was also reasonable!

My wife and I usually visit Folkestone at least once a year. Walking through Sandgate we spotted Sandgate Vaults and thought we must give it a try. We are pleased we did! We booked for a Friday evening which happened to be steak night. We had the steak meal which was unbeatable at two steak meals and a lovely bottle of wine for under £30.00. Finished off with two delicious desserts we were really happy we gave The Vaults a go. The upstairs area where we booked for was spacious, well lit and very comfortable. We met Diane and the staff and everyone was friendly and helpful. Before we left Diane showed us the downstairs area. It was completely different. This area was previously the vaults (hence the Resturant name) of the bank that stood on this site. The downstairs area housed the bar and lots more tables. This area was darker and more intimate but in its way just as impressive as the upstairs area. We would have been just as happy to have eaten downstairs. We have friends and relatives who regularly visit Folkestone and Sandgate and we will definitely recommend Sandgate Vaults to them. Thanks to Diane and the rest of the staff for a lovely evening. I've had lot of roast dinners in my time but this was one of the best. Plenty of vegetables with extra cauliflower cheese and choice of puddings too, friendly, welcoming staff and well priced.

Ein super Lokal in Sandgate. Wirklich absolut lecker. Habe mein Gammon Steak wirklich genossen. Ich bedanke mich aufrichtig für die Fantastisch Zeit.

Absolutely loved it. I moved to sandgate a week ago and saw they do a £9.95 roast dinner. No brainer really. Wasn’t sure what to expect for that price but can honestly say it’s one of the best roast dinners I’ve had in a long time. Very good value for money. You get a lot of meat on your plate. Full of flavour. The gravy is sooooo tasty. We sat downstairs as we brought our dog, very cosy down there. Lovely atmosphere. Will defo be our new favourite spot to eat

Had Sunday Roast...good value for the money. Accommodated our Benji dog in a small alcove room....he can be a bit nervous so this was great.

We came here on a Friday for steak night. Its such a good deal. We got 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. We got the steaks medium rare, they were cooked perfectly. Very juicy. I liked that there was a choice of wine. We shall be back to try some more.

Been the to Vaults on many occasions. Have done the lunchtime special two courses, have done the pie and pint Wednesday and the £9.95 Sunday lunch. Never ever been let down with food or service. The pies are fantastic and the Sunday Lunch for £9.95...

I used to love a Sunday Roast here. But last couple of times it seams to of not been as nice and organised. My partner and I got the wrong meats and no stuffing balls. We were offered them when we had finished our meal. Also the Yorkshire pudding was black. When we nicely said it was burnt to a crisp the waitress just said oh well, laughed and walked off. Quite sad how much it has changed.

In the area so booked this restaurant for Sunday lunch. The meat (lamb) was bland and the vegetables were watery and I suspect been boiled and reheated a few times. The roast potatoes had also been reheated a few times. Not the most expensive meal,...

Excellent venue where you can purchase a pie 'n' pint for £9.95. The pies have plenty of meat and a lovely thick gravy. I understand they are home made. Good selection of beers, lager, IPA, Guiness and good quality wine. There are two floors the first is modern with glass and metal furnishings. Downstairs in 'the vaults' is olde world with a rustic feel. Staff are very pleasant and hepful. Will visit again. The steps downstairs are quite steep so if your infirm or elderly take care.

Excellent Sunday roast today 22nd Jan. Lamb was superb , it arrived in minutes . On warm plates and it was really hot . Top food and service . Under a tenner as well.

We called in on Thursday's curry + a pint for £9.95 and were treated to a delightful meal. When we walked in at 7pm it was completely deserted but we decided to stay, sat downstairs in the cellar area and ordered our food and drinks....

We had a great meal here last night for my wife's birthday. It was Pie night....downstairs was really cosy and warm with a nice atmosphere. They even remembered it was her birthday and put a candle on the desert which was a really nice touch. We will definitely be back :-)

Booked for my birthday, was offered a seat in the 'cosy' downstairs, it was so damp, the walls were wet and mouldy and smelled awful. We had a concert booked so didn't have time to go anywhere else so gave it a try still. Beer was off, menus were dirty and half printed half hand written, there was no effort to serve us, we were not given cutlery until we asked after the starter arrived. Starter was a baked cheese, came uncooked and in packaging from the shop still, cancelled the rest of our order and left. Only thing saving this place was the lovely apologetic young waitress. I had seen good reviews but apparently the chef has since departed ways.

It is with regret that I am writing this review as I have visited Sandgate Vaults on numerous occasions, always having friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food at excellent prices. Initially I had trouble booking a table as both landlines and mobile phone went to answer...

Had a Sunday roast, potatoes luke warm, poor selection of veg, not fresh, luke warm as well, meat laying on top of veg was tough and also luke warm.. but the worst part, the whole dinner was drowning in gravy, way too much gravy, this is something the customer should put on themselves, some people might not want that much, especially as gravy was also luke warm. Disappointing as don’t go out to eat that often so should have been a nice treat. I wouldn’t go back and would advise the manager of the place speak to his chef or get a new one.

Lovely atmosphere downstairs in the vaults, staff were all very good, food was excellent, especially the pulled pork nachos, would really recommend if you are in the area.

Table really dirty had 2 very small babys with us. No highchairs. Did ask on booking. Food almost cold. Manager very rude after showing him the dirty wipes. Tolled us to go without our desserts already ordered. He needed his dirty table for someone else....

Awful! Never come back here again. Wouldn't even rate 1 star if I could! The family and I were really looking forward to a nice meal out. We passed Sandgate vaults a few times and loved the look of it. It looked super classy ... Oh how were we wrong.The manager was a complete disgrace for customer service . First of all we pre booked it the day before coming and we asked for childrens chairs we didnt get one. There was only one in the building. We sorted this out ourselves... Once our roastie arrived we noticed the table was really disgusting there was grime and sweat from were people sat there and left over meat in chuncks dried up on the table. Our baby wipes were black ! Yuck!We mentioned this to the manager after we ate our dinner because we finally got to speak to him when he managed to come to our table after managing to get waiting staff to get him.When the manager was confronted about it he decided to walk away midway talking to a customer which was rude itself! then decided to say it was taken off our bill. The waitresses who were really lovely took our dessert order previously to this and we was still waiting there expecting it because we got told by waitresses that we are still getting it and reassured them. He then came to our table and said YOU have to be gone by 3pm as we have another booking and I said we are waiting for dessert he turned round in a foul mouthed way and said "you're not having dessert the table was too dirty". We was so shocked. We left. Not just that customers around our table was saying this was shocking behaviour and I think the waitresses who was apologizing for there managers behaviour was embarrassed and shocked. Never come here unless you want a dirty table and rude man who doesn't know customer service. However waitresses were lovely. Think there needs to be a food critic here or new management.

Not very good I was told there was only one chef on.. But there was only two people in there so the chef can only cook two roast dinners at a time so I was turnt away on Sunday think they need to get a proper chef .. And the gravy look very runny ,, 🙄
