Sunshine Folkestone Bistro in Shepway

Eggs Benedict were just average. Ice cream flake was mostly whipped cream. Tidy bistro, fresh colours, lovely big mirrors and nifty glass brolly lights. Younger servers were polite and friendly.

31 May 2025 - really disappointed. The burger was dry and bland with hardly any sauce, too much lettuce and no onion or red onion chutney (which the burger was supposed to have). The salt grinder had run out. The server/s didn't check in to see if everything was ok, so there was no opportunity to let them know. Admittedly it was busy but we felt studiously ignored (I couldn't catch anyone's eye) until literally the second my husband finished his meal and then his plate was whisked away - while I was still eating! It's supposed to be a wine bar too, but there's no wine list. I was asked if I wanted red or white. Then told Shiraz or merlot. Previous review; Excellent food. Great service. Extensive menu. The boozy milkshake was superb. The pancakes are superb.

I went here for breakfast and not only was it over priced the food was so disgusting I would of not even feed it to a dog my I left I got sick everywhere AVOID DONT SAY YOU ANT BEEN TOLD

I having been going to this cafe for 4 years regularly with my brother-in-law who is autistic. He has always had the same, tuna mayo sandwich on brown with a black tea. He does not like the sweetcorn in the tuna and has had it removed. Today the waiters refused to remove the sweetcorn which resulted in the chef coming out and shouting at us. Customer service used to be an important thing for Sunshine Cafe, but now it isn't. Pity. I do not recommend this establishment until they can demonstrate Customer satisfaction

Good fresh and well cooked food, excellent service too. Wait time was minimal I used the Call bell on the table and our waiter was immediately there. Excellent place

Really lovely place. Came for breakfast two mornings on a weekend away as recommended by my friends. The staff were friendly and they had loads of staff on to help you.

Modern restaurant with lovely staff and delicious breakfast! From the outside we were not sure but after reading some reviewes in here we decided to give it a go and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered pancakes and benedict eggs along with strawberry smoothy and a cappucino. We enjoyed yhe breakfast, the ambience and pancakes were homemade pancakes!

Always a lovely place for our brunch or breakfast. Haven’t yet been for dinner/evening but imagine it’s just as nice. Service is always excellent and the food amazing. Yes, it’s a little more expensive than some standard cafés but you get what you pay for. Super fresh ingredients with everything cooked to order, a nice clean airy restaurant and really clean toilets. The omelette here is one of the best around and the wraps are amazing. There’s nothing in the menu I don’t like and still lots more to try!

Nice cafe, we came here for breakfast. It's a little overpriced for the size you get and is not able to change items to suit dietary requirements, so then end up paying more for less food. Other than that, food was good, the atmosphere was good. I did find it a little cramped, especially with a buggy (I have a small travel buggy that folds easily and still found it too large to be in there and not in the way). It seems to be a popular place for people.

We both ordered dessert, the only criticism was I ordered a choco nut sundae and they sent out a rocky horror sundae which I was unable to eat due to allergies, which I had already disclosed to them. Fortunately the server, I assume who was the manager, took this away and provided the correct item with no problem. I also tried a truly lovely herbal/fruit tea here, a strawberry and kiwi. The portions here are huge too, and extremely well priced and good value for your money. I would like to return.

The perfect spot for Valentine's dinner - we visited on the Friday to make the most of the cocktails and mezze offer. The waiting staff were friendly and accommodating (letting us sub out some of the meat options for veggie ones on the mezze platter), the drinks were fab and the food was beautiful as always. We often stop here for a bite to eat or a coffee if we're out in town - the hot drinks are fab (and priced better than Costa opposite), the hummus is gorgeous and on a quieter weekday it's a great place to study too. One of our favourite local restaurants!

Hair in food and drink was lukewarm. Whom I assume was the manager/owner, was mistreating members of staff. Food is rather delicious though. It is usually nice in here- disappointed this time.

Was given a menu on our arrival and we all ordered cocktails. When we went to order another round of the same drinks, the waitress tried to give us a new menu saying there was some new cocktails added. I noticed the prices had increased by more than 10% so said we will order from original menu. Waitress spoke to manager who said we couldnt order off that menu anymore. I have never been to anywhere where they increase the prices mid meal/drinks! We didn't reorder and went elsewhere!

Food was terrible no flavour, staff asked how the food was told them and he said I should have complained earlier.

I always enjoy coming here the food the drinks it’s all amazing I personally would like to take each chef and plant a kiss upon their forehead for making such amazing deliciously presentable food everytime this place is such a bop!

Varied and good menu and priced reasonably.

Myself and my wife were really impressed with this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was really quick with the waiter staff very friendly and polite. I would not hesitate to come back here when I am in Folkestone again. A really lovely evening out.

Had lamb shank. It was flavourless. Just tasted like it was boiled in Walter. And the juices were flavourless just tasted like water. My girlfriend meal was not good either. Many other restaurants in Folkestone, I won't be returning. Rubbish food for not a great price.

Really great breakfast. Everything perfectly cooked. Superb coffee too. All delivered with a smile by staff, even on a busy weekend morning. So good we came back again.

Their menu is huge,everyone can find what they like, everything looks incredibly delicious and nice, they put their effort to make it unforgettable. Me and my husband in love with heir warm chocolate fudge cake. We’ve been here few times and staff always very attentive and welcoming, but unfortunately on our last visit waitress who served us seemed to be very irritated and unfriendly, for some reason she didn’t warmed up chocolate cake and threw it on the table with anger. In overall we love this place and will visit again for sure, but i think you need to keep your service on the same level ❤️

We asked for our drinks THREE times. We had clearly been forgotten. They were not interested in us. When we had finished the guy was there with the bill. Clear they wanted us out

Good food and really fun staff.

Disappointing meal - Bacon and cheese omelette , rubbery ,overcooked and bland with very little cheese filling , sautéed potatoes and not a particularly generous portion of coleslaw ( extra £2.90 ) , a Diet Coke total cost £18.20 . For this price of a meal that does not consist of overly expensive ingredients , I expected so much more

This is fast becoming my favourite spot, the space is unique, the staff spotless and polite, the new cocktail specialist is something special and a credit to the place and well worth the price to have him create something off menu, you pay for what you get this is not a boozer but relaxed classy space, see you soon guys

A great place, centrally located in Folkestone. With a wide selection on menu. Fast efficient service. I usually have breakfast which is always very good.

Why is it so crowded??? O, right, it's half term! So, this myth of everyone bring sooo poor? Well, this place was packed and...we had to wait for a table! Once sat on their lovely banquettes we were home and dry ...and warm and happy. The Folkestone Sunshine caff is ace. Roll on the END of half term.

Have been several times now for breakfast. Food was delicious and well presented. So far, there isn't anything on the menu I wouldn't recommend. Staff has always been nice and friendly. The time to wait for food was less than what I expected, granted, I missed the peak times. The restaurant itself is clean and has a nice style that sets it apart from the surrounding area. Would highly recommend.

Celebrated my birthday at the Sunshine last night and had a lovely evening. Food, drinks and service was unmatched! Already looking forward to my next visit. A big shout out to Adam! And the rest of the Sunshine team. Will definitely be returning.

Excellent service and great quality food at the right price. Even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon there were plenty of staff who made time to make sure everything was ok.

We arrived early around 6pm and very few seats were available which told us the restaurant was very well liked. By 7pm all tables were taken. We had wonderful evening meal, very tasty and all cooked fresh and presented well. Staff greeted us with a smile and stayed friendly all evening. Very polite and very attentive. We were going to the theatre on the same night so wanted to eat early and leave. Now we have found this restaurant we will return when booked into the theatre again.

We ordered burgers, the waiter said they were like McDonalds, they were not. I also went in for brunch and had a sausage and egg roll. There were 3 of the thinist parts of a sausage not a whole sausage and an egg that looked like it had been dropped and kicked round the kitchen.

Visited here many times with friends and family and will continue to do so! Beautiful interior and lovely staff members make the atmosphere feel welcoming. Great food and drink every single visit, I highly recommend the hot chocolates!

Me and my three friends had a great time, our waiter/ server Adam was brilliant, the food was great and everything came to our table quickly and tasted fantastic. Would really recommend to anyone.

Best place restaurant in Folkestone

Today I had scrambled eggs on sourdough toast eggs under cooked., so this made the bread soggy and the bread wasn't toasted very well. My granddaughter has toasted cheese and tomato sandwich cheese looked really cheap not nice. For the prices you are charging needs to be a lot better. My sister had a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich earlier in the day at a different café was much better and came with salad and crisps half the price you are charging

This is my new favourite place to eat. They have a large variety of delicious food and beverages. Their staff are wonderful and it's such a lovely, cosy, relaxing place to eat. They also do takeaway now so you can order what you like and collect it.

Food is freshly cooked to perfection. So glad this place is still open. Staff are really helpful and very busy. Excellent service both times we went in.

We popped in for breakfast, unfortunately it was the last day in Folkestone to repeat the experience. A very beautiful, spacious place, delicious food with a perfect presentation. We left Folkestone with a pleasant taste 😋. I highly recommend.

A lovely discovery day 1 but day 2 not so good. I had breakfast and the food was cooked beautifully and with quality ingredients. Further, the kitchen amended the standard menu listing to what I wanted. Comfortable surrounds . Pleasant staff with largely good and speedy service. Given the table call buttons and waiting on service the 'welcome desk' is somewhat formal and unnecessary . Not the cheapest but I think with the positive experience largely appropriate ... It means it's a now and again treat rather than more regular. I will definitely be returning here. I did return the next day as it happened given I was so pleased. Alas the same breakfast was one poached egg and one tomato less than the day before. The manager did bring a second egg but was very reluctant and was abrasive rather than apologetic, suggesting I'd ordered extra the day before . Hopefully a one off blip as the food was again good and not a weights and measures issue. He then tried to charge me for the 2nd egg but finally gave in to just charging 30 p more for a one tomato less meal than yesterday ! I think they need to get their act together here as they turned a delighted returning customer into one that would consider twice about going a further time. My initial five stars across the board have been revised down.

We just wanted to make consumers aware and to be careful of vouchers being issued by sunshine. We arrived tonight wanting to use a voucher that had been bought as a gift for us to use in sunshine bistro bar and dining. When we went to use this we were told sorry you can only use this in the cafe. The voucher looks extremely similar to the cafe one and indeed we have seen the same staff in both establishments. We were told we couldn’t use the voucher and the waitress apologised that this wasn’t the only time this had occurred. Very disappointing and as a couple we wouldn’t spend £50 on breakfast! I think the cafe and bistro need to be very careful on the point of sale of these vouchers that people know they cannot use them in both restaurants.

Menu is fairly priced and varied for all customers. Also food was fresh and generously portioned. 100% recommended restaurant!

I've been here before and liked it , so chose it to go for a birthday brunch. My eggs benedict arrived without the avocado garnish , even though I saw it on other dinner's plates , and sadly , the eggs were overdone , so no runny yolk. We didn't choose to complain , but when the waitress asked how the food was , I told her that the eggs were hard , she just walked off without acknowledgement. My friend asked for the bill and the manager then enquired after the meal and she told him that her meal was fine but mine was missing the avocado and the eggs were overdone. He didn't seem interested either. So sadly , I'm writing a review to give my feedback as it wasn't wanted at the time. We weren't making a fuss , we ate our meal and mentioned the issues only because we were asked. I thought that was the point of asking. A smile would have been nice, attitude goes a long way to making people feel welcome. It's a shame , because it has put us both off from going here again.

I've been here before , and the staff have always been great , but today was disappointed, mainly with the service, the staff couldn't even raise a smile. When the waitress cleared the plates she asked if everything was OK, but was so disinterested that she was walking away even as I was speaking to her. My friend asked the manager for the bill and he also enquired about the meal , she told him it was fine but there was an item missing from one plate and the eggs were overdone . Sadly , he was also disinterested. I didn't want to make a fuss as the food is usually very good , but they didn't want our feedback , and the attitude was very poor, so that's why I've written this review. It was a birthday brunch , but it felt very flat and unwelcoming, such a shame , as it has put us off from going back.

Everything was absolutely brilliant! The food was amazing and the milkshake was soooo delicious. Kara has been super friendly and we will certainly recommend this place if you are visiting Folkestone.

We had two adults in electric wheelchairs and they made space for us. Cara, the waitress, was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. Fabulous experience.
