Cafe On The Beach in Shepway

Enjoyed the laid back friendly vibe so much that we returned! Great peel and eat shrimp, refreshing bottle of wine kept on ice, mussels and mahi mahi tacos and fries were delicious. Our servers Irvin (Thursday) and Lindsay (Sunday) were awesome - very friendly and attentive.

Watched the moon shining on the gulf while eating a delicious meal. Will return.

Favorite place on the Island. The waiters are outstanding. Good menu. The shrimp is excellent. I live on the tortilla soup. And the setting on the shore can't be beat.

This is the first time we've been disappointed here. Still awesome service, beautiful views, but this time....poor food. We had mini Caesar salads, shrimp and oyster basket, and the mussels. The salads were pretty bland, and the lettuce was definitely past it's prime. The shrimp were good, but the fried oysters were not. The mussels were mainly broken, and there were so many teeny bits of shell that they were unavoidable. Sad. We will hope for a better go next time.

The food was great each time we went. We did go during the week right after school started in August so there was always a table. Servers were all friendly and responsive. Peaceful little spot next to the beach.

Love this beautiful little cafe. Great food with some daily specials. They have a good happy hour margarita too. Be aware that it can get pretty busy on weekend mornings.

Nice small cozy & quaint place looking over the beach. Excellent margarita's, Lobster tail and peel & eat shrimp. Aaron, was a great server, thank you. You're inside with open air seating. You'll have to chase of a few flies, but they don't overtake you. I will eat here again!

Great location on the beach & yummy food. My Reuben was so stuffed with goodies I had to eat it with a fork. Nice service, too! Lots of entertaining grackles around.

After waiting 15 minutes to be served ,from standing in a queue from kiosk window I noticed people who had gone into coffee shop after me , being served . I decided to try my luck at ordering inside shop. I am physically disabled and struggled to gain access to counter in cafe because of lack of room and the cafe full of customers. I was met with a very rude woman who said ,What do want…Not can I help! I replied would like to order please . She said can’t order in here go to outside window. I stated I had being queued outside and had Not be served. She replied, we are very busy. I was embarrassed and turned around left the cafe struggling yet again to leave the cafe because lack of space because of my disabilities. I will not ever again use your facility ,or will not recommend it to anyone I know. I live in this area There are lots of coffee shops and eateries which are more welcoming with better customer services in Hythe.

Best restaurant on the beach for ahi tuna, grilled red snapper, sweet potato fries, drinks and of course the ocean.

Love this place. We go here for breakfast whenever we visit SPI.

Frozen food like chicken tenders and fries are less expensive. The rest of them are expensive and the quantity is less. They could have installed Misty fans for outdoor seating.

This had a medium sized wait, but I'd say it was worth it. The view of the beach is so amazing and you can go on the beach and swim. The food was amazing(I got breakfast). I would recommend this place when you look for a bite to eat.

Best dog friendly place on South padre! They were. Kind enough to offer water to my dog immediately after we arrived.. food is very good so we’re the cocktails! Good choice for a laid back evening or for a special occasion..

The pineapple coconut dipping sauce with the coconut shrimp is so addicting 😋 This spot is perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! And you can't beat the view being right on the beach 😎 A must try 👌

A friendly and welcoming cafe situated on the promenade in Hythe with a beautiful uninterrupted view of the sea. The menu is full of regular and imaginative choices and the tea & coffee is the best in the area (I recommend the poached eggs-always cooked to perfection). The staff and owner Vicky make a visit here a pleasure, so much so that we are now regulars!

The service was very good and quick. Our food got here promptly. The taste of the food I ordered was so so and needed lots more seasoning. I had the shrimp tacos. It was very bland I had to add lots of salt and pepper. The tortilla soup that came with my tacos was pretty good as was a very small portion of coleslaw. My wife had the teriyaki chicken sandwich with fries. She enjoyed hers alot. Also be aware all seating is outside. No indoor seating.

Took my daughter because we wanted fried seafood. Probably some of the best we have ever had. The combo was awesome. Jeicy O was our waitress, she was awesome with the most warming smile.

Cute spot, has everything you need for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar. Parking is limited for the cafe since it is connected to The Palms Resort and beach access.

I highly recommend the place. The location makes it perfect. The service is attentive. Prices can vary, but the food is always well-served. I ordered a spinach and cheese omelet, and it was delicious. I ended up spending $40, not bad at all.

As usual, poor service from staff, rusty tables and chairs outside the cafe and over cooked, over priced food. Basically you only go here if you have no other option. Hopefully one day, they will sort themselves out and improve the facilities and their customer service. But I doubt it. More likely they will reply with some kind of passive, aggressive statement or plead the family run route.

Beautiful ocean view! We love coming here for that reason and the beachy vibe! The service is great and the food comes out fast, hot, and delicious. Definitely recommend trying this place out and making it part of your rotation!

Cafe on the beach is one of the nicest places to meet up along our lovely seafront in Hythe. Not only is the food tasty and the coffee delicious, the staff and owner Vicky are the warmest, friendliest and most welcoming people you could wish to meet. Every day is busy for them but particularly at weekends, but we as regular customers know how hard they are working, both with inside and outside customers. When I read the review Maureen wrote it was pretty damming and uncalled for, on that particular day it was the Hythe bay triathlon and Vicky and her team opened up the cafe at seven am, two hours early to help support and cater for the participants, the cafe was the busiest I have ever seen it, but the staff were just their usual smiling selves and working as a great team, despite being run off their feet! Well done Vicky and all your cafe on the beach family ❤️

I'd really like to counteract Maureen from Maidstones review....I meet here every sat and sun (also midweek when I can) with my husband and friends. COTB offers a warm, friendly and nutritious welcome to locals and visitors alike. Furthermore it has recently won a Community award for its contribution to the locality. Food is homecooked and imaginative, and coffee the best around. Staff and owner (Vicky) are welcoming and friendly...they could not do more to make you feel at home. Maureen.....give it another try, I'm sure you will have your mind changed. Sometimes we need to look beyond a few mere crumbs on a table, to the yummy jammy doughnut centre....there is where we find the true heart and soul of COTB. xx

The corned beef hash is a must try!! It’s made in house and delicious.

A great spot but the service is bad. My toast didn't even have a colour and put in a paper bag, although I was sitting at a table. The table weren't cleaned, the staff are scruffy and no one seems to know what they are doing! This could be a great business if managed properly. So disappointing. Won't be using again 😔😔😔

We really wanted to dine there and after reading some reviews we thought it was considered pet friendly, but when we came with our small dog, we were not allowed in the vented open patio area, but only sit outside in the heat. Too bad, we left. Not so pet friendly.

What a hidden gem! Small little cafe right on the beach. The food was delicious . We had the grilled red snapper both entree and sandwich. Shared a cup of seafood bisque which was yummy and the beachside salad was to die for! Would definitely go back.

Great location facing the beach. All seating is outside, but there are some great shady spots. Got the seafood bisque and the red snapper sandwich and both were very good. The seasoning on the red snapper was spot on. Great place!

Food was not as good aa expected, especially for the price. Enjoyed the atmosphere even though it was too hot, sat under umbrella but sun was still hitting my back. Server never came to offer refills unless refills are not available. I was there for breakfast, right before lunch. Possibly lunch and dinner are much better.

Just left. We got there before 11. Host took our names. Sat down at 10:58. Waitress came over took our dreams & came back to tell us “it’s 11:04AM” we stopped serving breakfast… wow great we didn’t wait almost 30 minutes to be seated & could spare 4 minutes ok .

Our server was absolutely awful, he said "let's get this over with" when we told him we were ready to order (and not in a joking way either). Took 7 minutes for us to get our first drinks. Never got a refill on our drinks and never checked up on us. There was a hair in our chips. The cheese curd was burnt for the salad. Other than those problems, the entrees were absolutely stellar (except for the Ruben, when shared around the table it was a mutual consensus that the meat tasted awful), but we would never go there again purely because the service was so disastrous.

Nice little spot by the beach that we walked to from our off-site accommodations. Simple breakfast is what we had and it hit the mark.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was ok for a place right at the beach. But what brought my rating down, is that we were brought the bill without us asking for it. We were actually talking about getting something else, when the bill arrived at our table… so I guess our presence was not to their liking? No one was waiting to be seated, so why the rush? I’m sorry, but in my book that is plane rude.

Was so good we went for 2 meals. Dinner, and the breakfast. Plating was a nice touch. Key Lime was a nice treat. Ambiance was good, could use table fans to chase away flies. So good we went twice, family of 6 pleased both times.

They went above and beyond and gave our dogs treats and water without us even asking. The service was impeccable and we all loved the food that came out quick.

The fried food is very full of oil, it seems that your fryers lack temperature. The burger I ordered was quite dry, the meat was quite dry and the bread was also half old. The service was suddenly good and fast, but then the waiter disappeared for a long time If I come back and things go better, I'll give the place more stars.

Atmosphere is really good with beach facing. Only few tables are covered and rest are in the open which will be a problem during day time. Evenings are better since no direct sunlight on us. Tried both breakfast and dinner. Unique menu items were there and ordered them. Breakfast - Crab cake was really good but the pancakes are not as expected so salty. Beverages are overpriced , may due to tourist spot. Dinner - Ordered two fish entrees, portion really small for the price we are paying and taste is not that great.

Nice cool/chill place. OVER PRICED!! Went for 2 shrimp cocktails (Clamato,shrimp, onions,lemon,cilantro) they gave me 4 shrimps with lettuce and cocktail sauce two orders for $34 total of 8 shrimps. I had specifically asked if it was made with Clamato, cilantro, lemon, etc and they said yes. Went to bartender told him this wasn’t a shrimp cocktail and that dude told me it was Americanized I was like wow bro this isn’t even close to being a shrimp cocktail I want my money back and just gave me excuses. I took off. Go to tortugoa or Joes oyster in PI instead highly recommended

I tried to place a to go or curbside order but I was told that they couldn’t accommodate because the kitchen was too backed up to take any orders. I didn’t mind waiting for food. Never experienced this before.

Our favorite margaritas and chips and salsa on the island! We’ve had Christian serve us a few times and he’s very attentive and friendly. Can’t beat the views either!

Food was average. Being close to the beach was awesome. Service was interesting. Our waiter was very odd.. we also felt rushed. Avoid the water unless you want to drink dirt. Pina colada was not good. This was a miss for us, but I would maybe try again.

Went the other day and a bulldog accompanied A patron. I said to myself, how cool! Dog Friendly! We went today and my Nephew brought his Standard Poodle and they told us only service dogs, a bulldog is a service dog? Yeah whatever. We ended up going to Josephine’s and they were so friendly and allowed my Nephews dog with open arms. Be consistent, be better Palms Resort and Cafe.

This is the nicest spot (in terms of food and service) while visiting SPI. A little tucked away from the main strip behind a hotel/motel area. We were greeted warmly upon arrival. Attentive wait staff. Bar tender crafted drinks perfectly. Although it was rainy we sat near a window and the scenery was just beautiful. We ordered a chicken salad, spectacular dressing and plating, chicken tender plate, very good and fresh, a Pastrami sandwich, which tasted excellent. We also ordered a Caesar salad that did not disappoint. The hightlight however was the Red Snapper sandwich. This sandwich was expertly crafted, dressing was fantastic, bun was perfectly toasted and the condiments were spot on. Flavorful, flaky and delicious to say the least. It's a shame I wasn't able to picture the Red Snapper sandwich but believe us it was splendid! A special thanks to Steve for a pleasant afternoon.

We have a service dog, The first afternoon we ate here, our waitress that assisted us was very friendly and accommodating. She brought a bowl of ice water for our puppy dog, Second time we had breakfast here, food was good waiter was good, but there is a white lady with short hair, tall, slender that brought out water for two dogs near us, but didn’t offer water for our dog. She was really rude, today we were going to go and have a drink, and the young man was very rude, we are fro New Mexico, and this was our first time to the island, I can tell you Right now when we come back, which we will, we will never step foot into your establishment. And I will put a review on Facebook So others will know how people are treated😡

I liked the location. It’s cute and quaint. We went for fried shrimp. The shrimp were good. The batter was good. I’m glad because some batters never have enough salt, and I’m a person who favors salt. The Cole slaw was just alright. Their fries were pretty good. I was able to substitutes my fries for a Caesar Salad, but I was able to try their crispy fries from my kid’s plates since we all ordered the same. I paid 2.50 to substitute. I’m only giving a three because our server disappeared. She took our order after a while of waiting. We were ready by the time she came, and we had been since we knew what we wanted by the time we arrived, but she never came. I thanked her by the time she came for that reason. She probably didn’t know why. Then, she took our order and disappeared again. I’m not sure if she was assigned to our table, and that’s why the others didn’t come. They may take turns. But what I do know is I had to ask another server twice for something. First, I had to ask for forks for our Cole slaw and salad because she was no where around. I got tired of waiting. She should have brought those things. Then, I had to wait again because she still hadn’t made it back to check on us because I needed horseradish. I finally got tired and asked the same server taking care of the other table. It was annoying. I felt bad, and I also felt my tip should have gone to him, but whatever. I’m glad they help each other out, but it was my first time there, and I wasn’t impressed with the customer service, so I rate it a 3. The food would be a three as well. I think they can do better and serve a few more shrimp as they only have 6 and could use 8, and they could improve their Cole slaw recipe that is bland. I had to put salt and still didn’t taste fabulous. I remember when these baskets were 8 dollars. Now they are 18. I would hope they are delicious in every which way. Anyhow, I would certainly visit again and would hope that I have a server that actually deserves her tip. This one was in and out super fast, didn’t seem to care too much about her clients. Lastly, I must say they don’t devein their shrimp, and that is a no no for me. It’s disgusting to say the least.

Parking to eat here sucks!!!!! As with everything in SPI! It was hot, the food was good but I spent $140 and $40 was a $20 service charge, and a forced 18% gratuity, we always minimum tip 20% but with the parking fiasco and and that service charge, and mandatory tip we will not be returning there.

Phoned three times, intending to order takeout. No one picked up each time. Perhaps due to my Canadian area code? In a vacation town? Oh well.
