Absolutely Brilliant, the food is fantastic and you get so much of it, the staff are very friendly and polite, 5 stars from us, highly recommended, we were staying at a campsite down the road where the food was disgusting so it was lovely to get something decent to eat.

We did mention about Sunday lunch but wasn’t sure if we would be back in time and was meet with it will be busy but I will fit you in. Sadly we weren’t back in time. Lovely food, mostly ‘Pub Grub’ type but all home cooked, good quality and well presented. However the service was very slow, due I think, to very limited staff. We waited 45 mins for two burger meals and the other four/five occupied tables waited a similar time. This was very disappointing and with good quality food available too, it was a shame. The pub has undergone much development with decorations etc and has a popular Sunday lunch offer. However we won’t come back just too long to wait.

Went in for dinner with my cousin and our two children in the dinning area. We see two dirty nappies left on the window ledge and a family next to us had a dog up at the table. I fully understand that it's a dog friendly place but to have the dog up at the table is just unhygienic! Ordered drinks at the bar and both my glass and my cousins were dirty so we asked for another... they was also both dirty. So we asked for a can and a bottle which were warm as the fridge wasn't working so we decided to leave the drinks and also the food. The person serving us had to keep asking us to wait a minute while he went to bring other customers their food. Shame really as we was looking forward to eating in there but the dog, nappies and dirty glasses were a massive put off.

If your place is dog friendly or not however there should not be a dog sitting on a chair up at a dinner table fullstop and for you saying you don't use cups you knew exactly what I meant there was 3 GLASSES YOU HAD USED TO PUT MY DRINKS INTO AND EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS DIRTY 1.BITS OF LEMON AROUND THE GLASS 2.SOME RED STUFF AROUND THE TOP OF ANOTHER GLASS 3.LIPSTICK AROUND THE TOP OF ANOTHER GLASS THE RESPONSE WAS ITS ONLY LIPSTICK ALL GLASSES SHOULD BE CLEANED PROPERLY also for 2 dirty nappies by the window they was still there when myself and the others I was with left there 5 minutes later the table was already cleaned may I add you have to give me a refund for my drinks also due to the dirty GLASSES

Wow, what a lovely place! We, a family of 4, had the Sunday roast and it was perfection. We all tried a different meats and the sides and sauces were delicious. One of the best roasts we've ever had. The chef was helpful and talked about the cooking process also! Also it's great that little ones can get a baby bowl of roast alongside their parents. As for the pub, it's decorated very cosily in a prime location opposite the beach and with ample parking. Another commendation to the staff, they are very welcoming and helpful. We only booked our table 30 mins before and they responded to every message. The landlady was present talking to lots of customers and the place has a very upbeat friendly atmosphere. A beautiful example of what pubs used to be in the best way - friendly staff, honest food, and decor that gave me a flashback to my childhood. This is the opposite from a gastropub. We came for Sunday lunch without a booking and they fitted us in. The food was tasty, was it the most amazing Sunday roast I’ve ever eaten? Maybe not (however the roast potatoes were simply amazing), but it was a decent, tasty carvery with good meat and staff who obviously cared about food and making their customers happy. It was really busy & we had to wait for our food. We were happy to wait. However the food was not worth the wait, the famous batter was not cooked through on my prawns, the salad was bistro that you can buy in any supermarket & frozen chips. I can do this at home & like to eat locally sourced food, but that should be freshly made to me by the chef. The decor was very tired & depressing & there was a terrible smell of damp by our seats. Arrived early afternoon for a meal with family and young children to find an overly loud Karoke/singers making it difficult to sit inside the pub. The garden was also loud with unsupervised young children 3yrs- 8yrs playing alone in the garden and on a trampoline with no adults to support or supervise them despite signage saying all children must be supervised. Once an adult, presumably the land lady came out and spoke to the children complaining that a small boy had flooded the ladies toilets but no effort was seen to locate where their parents were. Very drunk adults only then materialised to either then take them home or jump on the trampoline whilst other small children were on there. I am writing as not a local I was surprised and shocked that this not only seemed acceptable behaviour for the adult customers and landlords of the pub, but also a normal Saturday for the children.

The food was awesome, hot and VERY plentiful - I ordered fish n chips and what I got was whale n fish, it was ruddy enormous, more than I could eat, but it was truly delicious. As a drinkers pub it delivers too, plenty of choice of alcoholic (and non alcoholic) beverages and a very pleasant outside seating area, and as the pub occupies a corner plot very close to the beach there's plenty of space. All in all, highly commendable and well worth a visit, but if you're intending to eat, make sure you're VERY hungry!!

We had been recommended The Jolly Fisherman by family members. We arrived on Saturday evening and initially thought the place was closed. Inside it was cold and not particularly inviting. There was a number of people sat at a large table in the eating area so we decided to stay. We ordered fish and chips and when it arrived the fish was really nice, light batter and full of flavour. Shame the same can’t be said for the chips. The smallest portion of lukewarm soggy chips I have been served in any establishment. It was like they had been blanched but then they forgot to fry them again. We thought we would give the desserts a try, mistake number 2. Ordered spotted dick and sticky toffee pudding. What we were served was definitely not what we ordered. The sticky toffee pudding was more like a ginger sponge and the spotted dick was dense and pretty tasteless. We changed the sticky toffee pudding for jam sponge which looked pretty good but the centre was hard and inedible. Will definitely not use The Jolly Fisherman again. D & S, Southampton

Myself and my Mum went on a Friday lunchtime. Brilliant that they welcome dogs. My Mum had the Jumbo Cod which was fantastic ( easily better than the 'Pilot' up the road). Only drawback were the chunky chips. With such a great bit of cod the icing on the cake would have been homemade chips. I had the double fillet buttermilk chicken tower burger. Not so great. I wanted wedges but the meal came out with chunky chips as they did not have any wedges left. I expected the chicken burgers to be a bit thicker and it looked like breadcrumbs not batter. We went there for a Sunday carvery. We did reserve a table which is a good idea because they are busy. Firstly there is a car park for customers. The tables were set up with enough space around so I could easily get my son's wheelchair to our table. Once there we read the menu. Easy on a Sunday as we all wanted the carvery. I must say I was impressed with how much meat we got and there was a wide choice of meat and veg. The food was lovely, we had roast turkey, pork and gammon at our table but there were other meats available. The deserts are very tempting too and of course as it is also a pub there is alcohol available. The Staff are quick, professional and very friendly. Only down point is entry is over a small area of gravel which is hard to push a wheelchair on but it's only a small amount and it is possible.

However this year I decided to pop in and try and book a table for myself, wife & child and our 4 friends for half 7. I was told there’s no need to book and just to come on in. Unfortunately due to traffic our friends did not arrive till after 7 so we arrived about 8. I apologised to the guy on duty whom I’d tried to book the table through and rudely told they’d stopped serving food. Firstly, what kind of pub advertising as a bar & grill stops food at 8pm on a Friday, & secondly, if I’m looking to book for 7:30, do you not think it would be wise to tell people that food stops at 8?! He then tried to lie to me that he “try to tell me” that food stopped at 8 which was a blatant lie to my face. We had told our friends what a great place this was and was left looking stupid. I don’t honestly believe that food had stopped either, I just think you couldn’t be bothered to serve dinner to non-locals. It’s such a shame as we always looked forward to an evening at The Jolly Fisherman on our visit to Romney but after this disgraceful event we will not be returning.
