Love this place. The perfect quintessential English pub with great food, wine and ambience. Warm and friendly waiting staff in white shirts, traditionally laid tables and a great menu with references back to the 70s - prawn cocktails, wellingtons, liver and bacon. The food was brilliant.

Quintessential English pub. Beams, draught beer, friendliest of welcomes, restaurant or bar food, garden dining, open fire and comfortable rooms. Easy parking (free) and good connection to nearby A3. If eating in the restaurant make sure you book. If you have guests from outside the UK and want to show them what a real pub is, definitely visit the Withies.

We stayed in the romantic Hayloft suite, 5 years after our first visit to the Inn and time has truly stood still. The room was once again lovely, the staff absolutely wonderful and the food - just wow. Not cheap no, but you get what you pay for and this was in my top 5 ever meals. The Withies is a gorgeous olde wolde Inn, steeped in character and history, with a great vibe while being peaceful, warm and welcoming.

One night stay. Room was ok but much smaller than pics and located at back of the pub which is quiet Service was very good Breakfast basic, if it wasnt included wouldnt have paid extra for what it was. Dinner was disappointing, werent told the cost of beef wellington (over £75 for 2 people....), everything under-seasoned and the potatoes without a doubt were a day old, reheated. Wont be back

Beautiful location and good service. Says on the door that dogs are not allowed but the landlord said please come in. Very atmospheric with old no smoking sign for the restaurant and a duck or grouse sign for the low beams. The garden is particularly nice with plenty of tables. Did not try the food but had been recommended to come here by one of my clients who lives in Shepherds Bush in London. Will definitely come back to this quaint pub.

Beautiful outdoor garden and a super cosy indoor snug pub. Service was really good, very friendly. Unfortunately, the food lets the place down a bit. Relatively average / standard Sunday roast but very expensive at £50 for 2 dishes. We did go at the end of the Sunday roast service which wouldn’t have helped however despite that the seasoning and general standard and presentation of the roast did not match the prices.

Came here for dinner. £25 for a steak, kidney and mushroom pie with "seasonal veg". £10 for whitebait starter. Gives you an indication of the prices - high, for fairly small portions. The pie was a stew with a pastry lid, not pie all around the filling. The filling itself was delicious. But the seasonal veg was steamed sugar snap peas, chunky carrots and broccoli. Very uninspiring. The pub and grounds are stunning. The service was attentive. The table decor and service feels very "French fine dining". But the food was a bit of a letdown. £150 for 3 people. One starter, three mains, two puddings, 3 beers, 2 diet cokes and orange juice. Very high for portion size and overall quality.

Been going to The Withies for nearly 30 years. Haven't been since covid. A significant lowering of the bar. Used to be a special place - maybe it is for someone new to the place - but well - only if special is plastic menus, service like anywhere else that is average, food that is more exciting to read about than it is to actually eat. I won't labour the point. The Withies used to be special. Written in sadness.

I was recommended The Withies but it was a bit of a disappointment, mainly in relation to the quality of the food. 50% of our table were disappointed and I really wasn't happy with the tabbouleh - it was slimy, made with the wrong ingredients, had little taste and was wet. I should have said something at the time but the staff, whilst pleasant, didn't seem very approachable and didn't check with us during our meal to see if everything was ok. I'm told that if you order traditional pub food like their pies, it's worth visiting. Given the quality of the meal and that we only had one glass of wine, one pint of beer and then only soft drinks, we felt as though the cost was pretty high. The setting is very pretty and the garden very pleasant and inside has the feel of an old traditional pub. I will go again, but will choose my food more carefully.

We were going to this place for dinner, however when we parked our car, behind a grey porsch, in an empty car park, except for this grey porsch parked against the hedge, this six foot guy in kaki shorts suddenly turned up, asking my husband to park somewhere else, incase he got boxed in. Bearing in mind the car park was absolutely empty apart from his car. It was already fairly late for new diners to arrive. When my husband explained that he parked his car so it would not be in the way of anyone trying to get through, the guy in shorts suddenly started inferring that he would start getting physically aggressive if we did not park elsewhere. He then strutted back to his table in the beer garden. Not wanting to end up in a fist fight on a beautiful warm summer's evening, we parked our car alongside his, so he did not get 'boxed in'. We then went to the beer garden, but then left as having a full view of this total psychopath while eating a meal, was off putting. Eating indoors on a lovely evening was out of the question. So we left. We will never return to this pub again. Who was this guy?

We arrived at Withies to have dinner on Saturday 17th August at around 7.30pm, but didn't get passed the car park. Another customer who owned a silver Porsche observed us parking behind his vehicle and immediately came over and started making threats in an aggressive manner that we must move our car in case someone else following us blocked him in. Given that his was the only vehicle in the car park at the time, and we parked behind him, he certainly was not blocked in. It was an unpleasant experience dealing with such an obnoxious individual, someone with such arrogance and self entitlement and threatening behaviour. It is a real shame that Withies Inn seems to have attracted this kind of clientele. Potential customers should be wary of this kind of individual if visiting Withies in future. We shall definitely not be putting ourselves through this experience again.

My partners fish cakes were delicious but a very small portion for a main course. We had to buy chips to bulk it out. My ham salad was average - I was expecting the salad to be nicely chopped but the tomatoes were just cut into quarters and the lettuce thrown on the plate with big slices on unpeeled cucumber and some avocado which I actually don’t like. Ham was nothing special. My partner had a shandy and I had a small wine - with service bill was nearly £70. We stayed overnight at the Inn - the room was lovely and the breakfast superb so this somewhat made up for it!

The fabric of the building is amazing, an archetypal English inn. The beer choice and quality was okay. However the lunch was very disappointing. I had fish and chips with mushy peas. The mushy peas portion was minute, served in the same sized dish as the tomato sauce. The fish was very greasy and it was all very over-priced at £19. The waitress seemed confused and bemused. Disappointing.

We sat outside in one of the booths because the weather wasn't good enough to sit on the lawn, but we were very happy there. We were celebrating a 40th birthday for my son - 6 people in total. We ordered whilst having drink outside in the garden. However, when our food arrived there were several issues: 1. I had to remind the staff that my starter came with Fig Chutney - it had been forgotten. 2. It was assumed that white toast would be my choice with my pate - I should be asked as many people have intolerance to white bread 3. The Prawn Cocktail was very basic 4. Worse of all they forgot one of the £35 Sirloin Steaks!! Surely it's not difficult to know when there are 6 people present that it's likely to be 6 main courses. We were told it was being done but the issue is that it not only needs cooking but it needs to rest too - my son who's birthday it was knows that is correct. So instead we would get a quickly prepared steak and at £35 - no thanks!! All in all the experience was pretty poor. We won't be rushing back!

I came here regularly when we lived closer and I was relieved to see it hadn't changed. I'm surprised by some of the reviews below. It is what it is. Is the dining experience immaculate and faultless? No. If that's your bag - go somewhere else. If you want delicious, proper food with a good atmosphere and a slightly quirky vibe - go here! The staff are real, kind and good humoured. I cannot remember a bad experience here (and yes - we've eaten in the finest places all over the world). Even my mum - who is discerning to say the least - couldn't fault her lunch (although I got one grumble about the time it took...expertly diffused by the waiter!). I think a lot depends on the attitude and expectations you take with you. The Withies is - and always has been - a place with a real and true sense of charm. Beautiful inside & out. Don't change! I have not visited for a while and the last time had been a bit of a disappointment but l decided to take a friend there on Saturday who also had fond memories of it. I’m embarrassed to say that we could find no trace of its previous glory. The head waiter was very off hand and although we had pre booked he seated us at a tiny cramped table. The prices are still high but the food when it arrived was badly cooked, badly presented and of a very poor quality. l am, though, happy to say that there were two waitresses who were both doing a good job. We had a lovely time, the staff were very helpful and attentive (we were a party of 12). Two small things made the mark down from 5 stars to 4. Five items on the menu were already sold out (at 1pm) and the food came out bit by bit with one person not getting theirs until some of others had actually finished their meal. Also the 2 children's meals were nearly the last to come out - it would be good to get the kids eating first, or the adults can't concentrate on their food. Otherwise we had a lovely time and we will be visiting again.

Food was good. Staff were welcoming. A bit noisy, but no fuss about that

Atmosphere, waitress and drinks were good. Food was not up to expectations. The “raclette” cheese on the burger was almost nonexistent and disappointing. The recommended crème brûlée had the wrong texture and didn’t taste of real vanilla. The most annoying part was I signed up for the newsletter that gave me AND my guest a free dessert only to see on the bill that only one had been taken off!
