The Bench Sports Bar in Guildford

I come here regularly on a Saturday lunchtime. The bacon, broe and cranberry hot sandwiches are served all year round and are excellent. I also like the chicken wings. Lots of students, but an older crowd too. There’s always a game on the big screens too. A nice place for a Saturday lunch.

An amazing place to go for food and drink with really good prices! Charlie behind the bar was really welcoming and a great atmosphere to have working there. Will definitely be returning soon!

Looks like always short staffed. Take long time clear out and don't care how your order gets to you after payment. Staff on phones and unnecessarily loud most times

Pleasant venue great views over the outdoor sports pitches

This place could really use a deep clean and a refurb. The tables were greasy, furniture unflattering and uncomfortable. Put in some sofas and biger oval coffee tables were people can play board games on. Keep the spirit of competitiveness and teamwork unside this place by simple design changes. Currently looks depressing. Shame for such a great modern gym.

Great for what it is, a student pub with affordable food. Burger are great, fries are good (but I personally suggest without the cheese) and the menu has a nice variety. Staff are always very friendly.

Charlie and Liam are great bar tenders. They both create good vibe and make coming to the bench a fantastic experience, great customer service!!

Had a lovely meal and a few drinks at the Bench Bar last night with friends and I loved the friendly attitude of all of the staff! The food was good and reasonably priced and they had a large range of drinks for us to choose from. Will definitely be coming back again

My first and only time that I will eat here - simply dreadful food. With such a limited choice in the menu, it should just be easy to construct a burger. What you get is a nasty over-seasoned frozen burger patty with some salad in a bun. My advice is to go to McDonalds or Wetherspoons - at least you know what you are getting there

Excellent service and great food for a brilliant price. The bar staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home in the bar. A great place to come with friends, or solo to do some work (if a uni student). Overall an excellent experience.

Shame on who ever manages this place now, it recently changed. How can anyone take a nice friendly bar that supports local breweries and in one foul swoop turn it into a corporate dispensary ? But they have. It now has no redeeming features so no reason to go there again until another change of management hopefully for the better.

Not bad for a leisure centre bar. Coffee is OK and there is food.

Really nice Staff, helpful and supportive. Bit expensive at £10 for a bouldering session that began at 7pm.

Food quality has gone down hill recently and now they are not even serving food after 7pm. Customer service does not seem to be a priority with this place any more

A group of us recently visited the Sports Bar before watching basketball. Our meal was good as was the service.

Great ambience, lovely views. Thoroughly enjoy the variety of food on the menu. Great for watching sport on the many screens, or a chat with real life sports people behind and after games. Prices are very competitive. Generally 3 real ales on hand pumps, plus a good choice of lagers and wines. And soft drinks.

I'm probably the least snobby restaurant-goer, but my experience just now was dire. Came in for lunch with colleagues as a break from work. Waited over an hour for my food to come out, in which time I had the pleasure of watching my 5 colleagues finish their meals. Nothing in the way of an apology when the food did arrive; had to take it back and eat it in the office cold. Won't be back again.

Great bar best chilli I ever had

This is basically a cafe/bar on site to (mainly) cater for sports park users. Personally i found the food to be really salty and somewhat plain but will otherwise fill a gap after you have done a few star jumps in the gym. The service is ok, i have been here and been served quickly yet alternately i have also visited and had to wait far to long for such basic fare to be served up. There are quite a few tables and i have never had a problem getting a seat, the atmosphere is ok. Overall its a bit hit and miss. My friends and colleagues at work like it though, maybe they have a thing for salt. ;)

I met some work colleagues here for lunch... there is a good menu and a good selection of ales (if you like that sort of thing). The food order that was provided was slightly different to that ordered but the food was provided in good time. Staff were friendly but probably a little eager to clear the table.... one of my colleagues almost had to protect his plate from being cleared away while there was food on it. Service could be improved but I would be happy to eat at The Bench again.

This place has good food for a complex bar. They show the sporting events on tv, also there is a pool table amd darts board.

Really good food! All menu items are bar food but are very good at reasonable prices! Possibly the best chips I've ever had! Plenty of seating space and televisions too for watching sports.

I've been to the bench bar A few times to catch up with friends. It's a very nice social environment with TVs to watch any live games or any sports. Don't go there if you've got high standards it's a nice cheep and cheerful place. The food is good quality for the price and the staff have always been friendly. I just get upset when they take the pool table away 😭. I will be returning.

This has previously been very good but the wait for food this time was extremely long although when it came out the food was good They have a loyalty food card and a loyalty coffee card If you buy a coffee you get a stamp and so many you get a free coffee - they have changed the rules apparently and the coffee must cost more than £2:00 - well this isn't a coffee loyalty card then compared to everyone else in the market We also went for coffee at 22:00 but the machine had been turned off - we were offered instant decaf instead! At least have some cafetières when this happens with some ground coffee - poor show Needs to improve their service and management here

Simple affordable menu. I like the big fat chips and the burgers best. The coffee is good too. Always busy so sometimes have to wait to find a seat.

Visited Bench Bar with my flatmate as it was her birthday and it's one of the closest places nearby.

Went there for a quick dinner after work. The food was nice, especially the chips!! The atmosphere is average and the staff are okay. But it's a good place for a cheap drink and some food

This is a busy bar within the university campus and the prices are fairly reasonable

This bar is convenient for the sports park and you should not expect too much; simple food but OK if re-heated is good for you. Not all ales were on and the staff struggled a little when drawing off as they had little or no knowledge of the ales they were serving. Staff struggled with the tills and had to ask each other and they weren't clued into bar etiquette as they weren't sure who was waiting and who had just arrived. However, despite this the staff were really nice and checked if what they were doing was OK and that made everything OK.

The Bench bar is located within Surrey Sports park, with free parking outside. It isn't fancy, but if you need somewhere to eat with a reasonable choice at great value, then this would offer not only a fun, easy holiday option when attending courses at the Sports Park, but also if visiting the Uni or even the hospital (which has very limited meal options). There's always at least one veggie option, plus the usual burgers, wraps, soups, pasta etc. Not a particularly creative menu, but guarantee you will find something you like, pleasantly served and of reliable quality. Bench bar does have lots of tv screens which show sports events etc. so not for those with an antipathy to this, but friendly atmosphere. Often pop in here with friends or children after activities/events at Surrey sports and never been disappointed.

The meal was good but we had to wait at least 45 minutes and there was not lots of people there. Don't know why. We would go there again as it is quiet and there is a wonderful view. Sunday is very quiet maybe!

I've been here a few times for work lunches as it's the only convenient place for our office and despite being wary as it's located inside a university gym, I was pleasantly surprised. The food is great quality, the only downside is that the service can be slow for large groups, and food often comes out at different times.
