Great menu quality food and service. we've been with a large and smaller groups and it's always great food and service. keep up the good work!

Atmosphere, waitress and drinks were good. Food was not up to expectations. The “raclette” cheese on the burger was almost nonexistent and disappointing. The recommended crème brûlée had the wrong texture and didn’t taste of real vanilla. The most annoying part was I signed up for the newsletter that gave me AND my guest a free dessert only to see on the bill that only one had been taken off!

Lovely feel to the restaurant, food was excellent. Sadly the service spoilt our experience. Our server seated us and we didn't see him again. Waited 30 minutes to order a drink and our meals. Our Sunday roasts arrived without yorkshires, had to get up and go and find someone to ask for them. Halfway through main course drinks had run out, no-one in sight to order more. Would have liked a dessert but based on the service received so far we decided to pay and leave (took a whole to get the attention off someone to bring our bill.) Overall a real shame because the food was excellent, unfortunately have been put off returning again. It's not acceptable to dump somebody at a table and forget about them, ultimately you lost out on further drinks and orders.

Visited the pub restaurant four times before I write this. It’s definitely a hidden gem and truly deserves a five star rating. Menu options are aplenty. I tried both lunch and dinner options. Service is impeccable. Environment is very relaxing and clean. Parking is free .

Highly recommend the bottomless lunch. Great food and unlimited cocktails and prosecco for £35. Great service.

We visited this restaurant for my birthday and we stayed in the area on route to our next destination. A variety of options to choose from and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the service was also very very good. Don’t hesitate to book!

We hadn't been here for years following a few uninspiring meals. Decided to give it a try after it's refurbishment. It is now owned by the same company that own The White Hart at Pirbright. Welcomed by a young man, followed by very good service. The food was very good, well cooked and a reasonable portion. I started with the cheesy mushrooms, which were surprisingly good, followed by the pork belly, very nice. My wife had the sea bass, which was also very good. They obviously have a good chef. We will definitely be back again.

It clearly changed ownership when compared to 3 years ago. Today is an outstanding atmosphere to have lunch at, with the most delicious octopus starter (special of today, so you won't always find it) and sublime British steak and malbec pie. Excellent.

Emily and the barmaid made us feel very welcome . I phoned in the afternoon and Emily was so helpful and welcoming we decided to book for a meal in the evening . The table was all reserved as requested and we had a great meal and a number of drinks from the bar !!! Where the duty barmaid was also very helpful

Great steak sandwich on lunch the menu - my waitress Emily was super lovely and attentive. The other staff were super friendly also.

Very pricey main courses average out at £20 and sides £5. Pint of Pepsi max £4.50. Very few light lunch options. Menus hidden behind the bar. Friendly staff but as there are so many lovely places on the area this doesn't stand out.

Fantastic birthday meal, all the food was spot on, and well.rpiced conpared to some other pubs. everything looking nice after the refurb. Can't wait to return.

Great meal and good customer service

This was our second visit to this pub. This was Saturday evening 26/10/24, the menu details were not good as my wife had the banana blossom stew, which contained peppers, but this wasn't mentioned on the menu. Also, my son's pudding came with ice cream and we asked to swap it for sorbet, however, when we checked the bill later, we realised we'd been charged extra for the sorbet. This won't stop us returning because we had a good time. Regards

The menu filled us with so much anticipation, we thought we were going to be disappointed. We weren’t. It was delicious. The lemon tart was too fussy and lacked a proper crust, but no matter, it tasted good. Would go again.

We visited the horse and groom for a birthday meal the first time since its refurbishment. As always the food was delicious. We enjoyed fish and chips, prime cheeseburger and a children’s sausage and mash for dinner. Followed by the famous chocolate bomb, a creme brûlée and ice cream. The service was friendly and attentive, care and attention was taken to ensure no allergens were present.

Really nice pork roast. A few items missing that we had to chase but this was quickly rectified by a nice member of the team. Kids portion was a bit small especially for the price (my 4 year old was still hungry after the fish and chips), but a lovely family friendly pub.

Bit of a let down and a shame from management. Booked a table for some Sunday lunch and a few drinks, was told after 90 minutes they needed the table back and we had to move upstairs if we wanted to carry on in the pub. When we got up and left our table - there were loads of spare tables around the pub both upstairs and down. We stayed a while longer and it stayed this way. Wasn't really sure what the big rush was about - don't see why we couldn't have stayed at our table. It was uncomfortable forcing us to move and open a new tab and I'm not a fan of anywhere that rushes and forces you to eat and drink quickly. Should change the system so that your table is guaranteed for longer. But of course that would mean less money.

What a great Sunday lunch at this beautiful establishment. My new wife had a stunning lamb shank, my roast beef and shin of beef roast was fabulous, And my vegetarian father in law was well looked after. Friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be coming back ( even though it’s not exactly local )..

A fantastic evening spent at the wonderfully refurbished Horse & Groom in Merrow. Brilliant food really delicious and presented perfectly, compliments to the head chef Dawid and his team. The service was excellent and very attentive particular thanks to Roberto & Ashley and the team for looking after us so well. A great evening with good friends spent in a brilliant venue thank you!

We stopped off here for a late afternoon drink on a miserable wet day. I think it's just been refurbished and looks fab! We went outside to an under cover area which was warm and comfortable, very nice place 😊

We had a roast dinner yesterday with our friends from Switzerland, 6 adults 4 kids. We had a great time and we weren't rushed to leave after we have finished our food. Out friends loved the design of the restaurants too. Staff were very kind and helpful, courteous, they seemed a very good team who made the restaurant atmosphere very welcoming. Food was fabulous! Desserts looked very pretty and they were divine. Great portions good value for money. The owner was around too, who came to our table and checked how the service was, to me it means he cares about his staff and clients. I couldn't recommend highly this restaurant.

Fabulous experience for Saturday lunchtime with friends (7 of us.) Everyone loved their food. I had the steak and ale pie and it was excellent. It took us a while to decide because everything on the menu looked so good. Others had steak, scallops and the half chicken. All excellent. The welcome we received was great as was the service (really friendly!) It's recently been refurbished and the whole place is amazing. Thanks!

I had a beautiful rib of beef Sunday lunch with incredibly well presented sides and an amazing sticky tofffee pudding and hand made marmalade ice cream The staff are incredibly polite friendly and on point Altogether the perfect venue for a Sunday lunch celebration Definitely need to book Congratulations to the management and well drilled staff

Excellent food, very good value and great atmosphere with amazing staff

Modern decor, lacking in character. Supposedly dog friendly, but tucked away in 'bar area' and had to go to the bar to order food. The service was quick, but food was mediocre. My wife had mushrooms as starter- quite good but small portion. My steak and wine pie was very average and my wife's belly pork was supposedly slow-cooked but was not tender. A disappointing meal for nearly £40 a head. Would not go back.

Really pleased that the H&G in Merrow has reopened following a refurb - my family and I have been going there for years. New menu is great (we opted for the lunchtime menu) and the service from all staff was better than ever. Refurb looks great too. My dad has limited mobility and we were supported well throughout our visit. Will be going back again soon.

Hopes were very high but disappointed in several ways during our Sunday lunch. Having chosen our starters & mains the counter service at the bar was really slow with only two people serving and several people waiting for drinks or to order food. Then I was told one of our selected mains, not a roast, was out so back to the table to reselect, with some increasing grumpiness on my part after queueing so long. We had success on the second try. The food arrived fairly promptly but cutlery did not, absolutely no sign of it. Now more grumpy and slightly incredulous we asked for cutlery and they arrived with a single napkin for us both to share. The food wasn't bad, but certainly a fair bit cooler than we would have liked. There appeared to be only one salt & pepper set for the outdoor tables, which struck us as odd, but we were well into feeling a bit odd about the whole experience by the time we wanted any salt or pepper. All felt like a big disappointment but there were some things done really well - allergies are well handled and many of the staff were helpful. For the cost and the experience, it a thumbs down from us.

After the remodel the venue look amazing, food and service excellent, we hate sea bass, linguine with prawn and chorizo and a great t-bone steak cooked perfectly. Definitely we will return, it's our local pub restaurant and we never disappoint.

The new Horse and Groom has been beautifully refurbished and offers a cosy, country pub ambience. The wine list is impressive and the food we had was excellent. Definitely one of our favourite places to eat.

We had a lovely lunch and a personalised tour of the newly refurbished Horse & Groom. Attractive additions included beautifully decorated modern restaurant space, exclusive access to private dining and sparse upper floor dining area with traditional features. New menu carried a selection of high quality wines and variety of delicious courses. Easy access to parking (has its own car park and public car park opposite), excellent service and attention to detail make this place one of my favourite restaurants in Guildford.

Delicious-only slight complaint is that the Pinot Grigio is more like a Chardonnay and doesn’t taste like a Pinot-too yellow and it was warm!! Waitress suggested ice cubes!!

Would definately go back to this pub .....only went in for cocktails but ended up having food which I must say was delicious. Seafood linguini and duck salad was really tasty and the cocktails prepared by Rio were fab thankyou

I attended recently after the refurbishment and was pleasantly surprised with the improvements to the pub itself. My waitress Niamh was incredibly attentive and smiley, it made our night that bit better. Would definitely recommend this place.

Checking out the new management and refurb. Came for a veggie roast. Really good, original options at a fair price. I had fig and dolcelatte roast. The music in the restaurant area was loud and didn’t match the space, but the server kindly turned it right down. Booze options good. Always nice to get a pint of TEA in Guildford. I was worried they’d be too ‘London’. Also, Jaipur in the fridge!! Decor not my vibe but classy I guess - think business class airport lounge. Shame it doesn’t match the heritage of the building. Landlord style paint jobs everywhere too, slathered over the original fittings and ironmongery. Overall I think it’s a step in the right direction for the general local bougie clientele. Certainly not a characterful historic tavern.

We went on the opening day of the horse and groom since it has been closed for a refurbishment. The new interior is absolutely stunning, it feels a lot more spacious and is a great atmosphere for dining or for drinks. The food is always brilliant as well!!. The staff always have a smile on your face and are very welcoming, I am so pleased it is back open as I believe there is no pub quite like it in Guildford.

Visited this newly refurbished restaurant, which has been upgraded to a beautiful standard while retaining all the original features of this old building. The food was excellent as always, we enjoyed sticky chicken, prawns, steak, lemon sole...

Foods amazing and flavourful and the service was fast and helpful. Bartender is funny and Neve was lovely.

Booked online which was accepted and then received three different reminders of my booking. This was my birthday treat - bad, very bad. We arrived to find it closed but I was still getting reminder messages on my mobile. Automatic booking system should have been turned off. Extremely disappointed. No food, no drink, no birthday celebration.

My friend Gerry and I had a blast here, this place is the BOMB! We had such a great time meeting everyone and hearing about the pub's history.

Food is not good Scallops were under cooked. Celeriac was under cooked as well. Veggie burger pattie was very nice. Gravy for the chicken was water thin.

Needs more attention to detail if it's going to be the restaurant it's aiming to be. Check cutlery, crockery, glasses are clean before putting them in the table. Clear empty glasses when visiting the table. Paper napkins?! Add expensive, small scallops to each dish? Or you can decide how the dish should be served and serve it completed. Linguini dish was tiny for the £20+ it cost. Staff unable to hide the judgements they were making about our party.
