We hadn't been here for years following a few uninspiring meals. Decided to give it a try after it's refurbishment. It is now owned by the same company that own The White Hart at Pirbright. Welcomed by a young man, followed by very good service. The food was very good, well cooked and a reasonable portion. I started with the cheesy mushrooms, which were surprisingly good, followed by the pork belly, very nice. My wife had the sea bass, which was also very good. They obviously have a good chef. We will definitely be back again.

Emily and the barmaid made us feel very welcome . I phoned in the afternoon and Emily was so helpful and welcoming we decided to book for a meal in the evening . The table was all reserved as requested and we had a great meal and a number of drinks from the bar !!! Where the duty barmaid was also very helpful

Great steak sandwich on lunch the menu - my waitress Emily was super lovely and attentive. The other staff were super friendly also.

What a great Sunday lunch at this beautiful establishment. My new wife had a stunning lamb shank, my roast beef and shin of beef roast was fabulous, And my vegetarian father in law was well looked after. Friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be coming back ( even though it’s not exactly local )..

A fantastic evening spent at the wonderfully refurbished Horse & Groom in Merrow. Brilliant food really delicious and presented perfectly, compliments to the head chef Dawid and his team. The service was excellent and very attentive particular thanks to Roberto & Ashley and the team for looking after us so well. A great evening with good friends spent in a brilliant venue thank you!

Excellent food, very good value and great atmosphere with amazing staff

Modern decor, lacking in character. Supposedly dog friendly, but tucked away in 'bar area' and had to go to the bar to order food. The service was quick, but food was mediocre. My wife had mushrooms as starter- quite good but small portion. My steak and wine pie was very average and my wife's belly pork was supposedly slow-cooked but was not tender. A disappointing meal for nearly £40 a head. Would not go back.

An amazing restaurant while keeping pup atmosphere. Friendly and quick staff, had a chat with me and my dog! Food was delicious, I was worried about my gluten intolerance but they were so accommodating and I was able to have a sunday roast! (minus the yorkshire). Thank you!

Really pleased that the H&G in Merrow has reopened following a refurb - my family and I have been going there for years. New menu is great (we opted for the lunchtime menu) and the service from all staff was better than ever. Refurb looks great too. My dad has limited mobility and we were supported well throughout our visit. Will be going back again soon.

Hopes were very high but disappointed in several ways during our Sunday lunch. Having chosen our starters & mains the counter service at the bar was really slow with only two people serving and several people waiting for drinks or to order food. Then I was told one of our selected mains, not a roast, was out so back to the table to reselect, with some increasing grumpiness on my part after queueing so long. We had success on the second try. The food arrived fairly promptly but cutlery did not, absolutely no sign of it. Now more grumpy and slightly incredulous we asked for cutlery and they arrived with a single napkin for us both to share. The food wasn't bad, but certainly a fair bit cooler than we would have liked. There appeared to be only one salt & pepper set for the outdoor tables, which struck us as odd, but we were well into feeling a bit odd about the whole experience by the time we wanted any salt or pepper. All felt like a big disappointment but there were some things done really well - allergies are well handled and many of the staff were helpful. For the cost and the experience, it a thumbs down from us.

After the remodel the venue look amazing, food and service excellent, we hate sea bass, linguine with prawn and chorizo and a great t-bone steak cooked perfectly. Definitely we will return, it's our local pub restaurant and we never disappoint.

Highly recommend this pub, staff very helpful and polite, the food was excellent fish & chips x2, prime burger, and a pizza. Dessert was scrumptious all for three of us. Will be going back very soon thank you Costi and all the staff at the Horse & Groom.

Lovely local pub for a Sunday meal or drinks with your friends. Jeff looked after me and my friends pouring us drinks, very professional and attentive. Certainly worth a visit if in or around Guildford.

A lovely old pub - friendly family atmosphere with helpful staff. Food was good and a beautifully restored listed building.

We had a lovely lunch and a personalised tour of the newly refurbished Horse & Groom. Attractive additions included beautifully decorated modern restaurant space, exclusive access to private dining and sparse upper floor dining area with traditional features. New menu carried a selection of high quality wines and variety of delicious courses. Easy access to parking (has its own car park and public car park opposite), excellent service and attention to detail make this place one of my favourite restaurants in Guildford.

The new Horse and Groom has been beautifully refurbished and offers a cosy, country pub ambience. The wine list is impressive and the food we had was excellent. Definitely one of our favourite places to eat.

Delicious-only slight complaint is that the Pinot Grigio is more like a Chardonnay and doesn’t taste like a Pinot-too yellow and it was warm!! Waitress suggested ice cubes!!

Would definately go back to this pub .....only went in for cocktails but ended up having food which I must say was delicious. Seafood linguini and duck salad was really tasty and the cocktails prepared by Rio were fab thankyou

Checking out the new management and refurb. Came for a veggie roast. Really good, original options at a fair price. I had fig and dolcelatte roast. The music in the restaurant area was loud and didn’t match the space, but the server kindly turned it right down. Booze options good. Always nice to get a pint of TEA in Guildford. I was worried they’d be too ‘London’. Also, Jaipur in the fridge!! Decor not my vibe but classy I guess - think business class airport lounge. Shame it doesn’t match the heritage of the building. Landlord style paint jobs everywhere too, slathered over the original fittings and ironmongery. Overall I think it’s a step in the right direction for the general local bougie clientele. Certainly not a characterful historic tavern.

I attended recently after the refurbishment and was pleasantly surprised with the improvements to the pub itself. My waitress Niamh was incredibly attentive and smiley, it made our night that bit better. Would definitely recommend this place.

We went on the opening day of the horse and groom since it has been closed for a refurbishment. The new interior is absolutely stunning, it feels a lot more spacious and is a great atmosphere for dining or for drinks. The food is always brilliant as well!!. The staff always have a smile on your face and are very welcoming, I am so pleased it is back open as I believe there is no pub quite like it in Guildford.

The new Horse and Groom has absolutely stunning decor, very modern, stylish and classy and the layout is very spacious. Amazing hospitality all round! Visited this newly refurbished restaurant, which has been upgraded to a beautiful standard while retaining all the original features of this old building. The food was excellent as always, we enjoyed sticky chicken, prawns, steak, lemon sole...

Foods amazing and flavourful and the service was fast and helpful. Bartender is funny and Neve was lovely.

Booked online which was accepted and then received three different reminders of my booking. This was my birthday treat - bad, very bad. We arrived to find it closed but I was still getting reminder messages on my mobile. Automatic booking system should have been turned off. Extremely disappointed. No food, no drink, no birthday celebration.

My friend Gerry and I had a blast here, this place is the BOMB! We had such a great time meeting everyone and hearing about the pub's history.

Food is not good Scallops were under cooked. Celeriac was under cooked as well. Veggie burger pattie was very nice. Gravy for the chicken was water thin.

Needs more attention to detail if it's going to be the restaurant it's aiming to be. Check cutlery, crockery, glasses are clean before putting them in the table. Clear empty glasses when visiting the table. Paper napkins?! Add expensive, small scallops to each dish? Or you can decide how the dish should be served and serve it completed. Linguini dish was tiny for the £20+ it cost. Staff unable to hide the judgements they were making about our party.

5 stars for sure. Everything about our Sunday lunch experience was excellent. It was our first visit to the Horse and Groom and most definitely not our last. Lovely building and we were met with a very warm welcome. The restaurant was light, airy and spacious...... not sitting on top of eachother. The menu was varied but we were here for Sunday roast. The menu recommendations led us to the scallops as a starter and the creme brulee for dessert....... both incredible but the piece de resistance was definitely the trio of roasts. The quality was amazing...... chicken was to die for and don't even start me on the dauphinnoise potatoes. We did splash out with sides and a lovely glass of red (perfect temperature) but was worth every penny. Finished off with coffees with a homemade macaroon on the side...... exquisite. Fabulous experience....... thanks H&G ...... see you soon. If we could give more than 5 stars we would...... highly recommend 👌

Fantastic service and food. Had the roast which was amazing. I actually haven’t got anything bad to say about the whole place. There is no room for improvement. The meet was cooked perfectly. The service was spot on. If I could maybe say one thing it would be that there wasn’t enough gravy on the plate however I’d really be being picky there. Really enjoyed my time here and will most definitely be returning at some point. Thanks

To make it clear, this review is ONLY for the Bottomless Bubbles experience! Was excited to book ‘Bottomless Bubbles’ (as advertised on their own website) for a bday surprise… it is advertised as lasting for 1.5 hrs and consists of 2 selected courses plus unlimited prosecco and/or selected cocktails. We didn’t hve a promising start, as there was MUCH confusion when I said we had reservations for this deal. Our server went to double check with her manager, only to return to say they did NOT do Bottomless Bubbles! I had to produce my online confirmation and also show them their own website displaying it before we were suddenly given the Bottomless Bubbles menus! 👀 (Ah, so they did do it after all!) Our server did apologise for the confusion though. The food was great, but we certainly felt they were not accustomed to Bottomless deals such as this (so why offer it in the 1st place?!) We kept having to ask for our drinks as attentiveness there was sadly lacking. We ended up with having only 3 drinks each (so not that bottomless then!). All in all I wouldn’t return here for the Bottomless Bubbles deal (other places do them so much better), but I WOULD return for a normal lunch/dinner etc…as the food really is delicious!

Don’t book for bottomless brunch! We booked the bottomless brunch deal for my dad’s birthday that is available on the website. Our waitress said we weren’t allowed to have it and we were forced to pull up evidence of our booking and the website link. We then were only served one drink and had to chase down staff to get another drink (this is not bottomless!)

Food below par ordered 1/2 chicken more like 2 chicken legs 🍗 would not eat here again staff how ever were brilliant so def would go for a drink but not the food sorry
