The Whyte Hart is an old Inn with lots of character and history. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good menu, food was excellent - the large fish and chips was enormous. Highly recommended

Arrived with reservations only to see a for sale sign and cobwebs over the doors and windows. NOTE: this is sort-of-OK since a new buyer of this Inn should deserve a ready flow of interested guests. This is where the hotel owner is stuck and cannot tell the truth that the business isn't a there anymore. My cell phone battery was below 20%, and I had to call a taxi to haul me back to the airport, find a hotel, and pay double the agreed rate. If you book . . . and from the looks of it, it'll be a nice restful village away from the airport, I suggest that you phone the front desk to confirm they really are in business.

I reserved a room here a few weeks ago so imagine my astonishment at arriving this afternoon to check in only to find it has closed down and was all locked up! For anybody who is planning to eat, drink or stay at the Whyte Hart Hotel in Bletchingley I found that it had closed its doors on 14August 2019. Sad that another pub has shut in the village - that is the third in relatively quick succession. Why it closed and whether it will open again I have no idea but there are still have two gastro pubs which are well supported..

Stayed at this hotel with my friend. The owner and his partner were extremely helpful and friendly. We arrived late at the hotel at night on the 31st July and was very hungry and the hotel restaurant was closed. The gentleman directed us to an indian take away. We bought the food and brought it to the hotel. We were offered to sit at the restaurant, gave us superb service as though the food were being served by them. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. Full English breakfast and there is option for continental breakfast if you wish. I can't fault this hotel, although, it appears to be within 2-3 star range but service was great and there are free parking as well. We checked out on the 1st of August.

This was our first visit to The White Hart's for a post-walk lunchtime, on a Monday. Key Points : 1. Very easy to make arrangements beforehand. 2. Happy to welcome well-behaved dogs 3. A warm welcome for the group members as they arrived and placed their orders at the bar for food and other refreshment. 4. Being a sunny, warm lunchtime we were able to enjoy our lunch in the charming, quiet garden behind the main Hotel building ~ a haven of peace away from the nearby A25. 5. A great lunchtime menu was offered, with a wide range of choice; AND so many options that I personally would have enjoyed. 6. Our meals arrived very much together, within minutes of each other ~ freshly prepared/cooked. All of our party enjoyed their lunches. We had a mixture of orders from some amazing sandwiches (described as amongst BEST ever enjoyed)...through to regular main course choices. 7. The group also enjoyed their well presented drinks ~ and for me an excellent, strong espresso coffee! Our group have already said that they will return for further walks from this base.

The staff are as pleasant and helpful as you would expect to find at any high brow establishment. It’s rapidly becoming our little home from home. Spot on with a gorgeous log fire to enjoy as well. One night stay. Positives.. bed comfortable, room clean, staff friendly. Breakfast was ok. Negatives... dirty windows, room seriously in need of redecoration, temperature regulator on shower broken, sink cracked, mould on bathroom veil and round the shower. We had two double rooms for an overnight stay. They were both so very shabby and unloved. The shower was alive with black mould, the towel rail broken and the extractor fan just horrible. At £70 for a double room this is not good enough. On the positive side the staff were very pleasant and the included breakfast was very good. We ate lunch after arriving; oh dear. Go somewhere else to eat lunch or dinner. This place needs a huge amount of work done to the rooms to bring them up to any kind of standard. Please see the photos.

My wife only likes cabbage and although the chef said there was cabbage/curly leaf kale , she only got the kale ..cabbage is the only veg she likes, but they did offer either peas or carrots to be fair. I asked for medium rare steak and it was a bit too rare for my liking. I believe a new chef had just started, and every one has to settle in so Im sure anyone would enjoy their meals in such beautiful surroundings. Very nice staff.

The owners & staff were so accommodating & they couldn’t do enough for us, we had fab food & drinks with the swiftest of service & nothing was too much trouble they even took our water bottles & refilled them for us, my only regret was that we couldn’t have stayed longer to enjoy they’re amazing hospitality & sample more of their lush food, the menu was amazing. I will definitely return to this pub in future & maybe stay a while & make use of their accommodation too. We were served by a barmaid barely out of her teens, but with a natural talent to lead people in whichever career she chooses. We were a party of walkers ranging in age from early fifties to late sixties, but she was in total control of us from the start of our visit, until we left smiling! Her welcome was friendly, and she assured us that there was no problem with our muddy boots. The beer was expertly poured, and she warned one of our number that a particular beer was slightly off, and that she would clean the pipes at first opportunity. By the time of our second round, she'd done it. She good-naturedly chivvied two of our party who were slow in ordering their food, and once it was served, went out of her way to ensure we had sauces, etc. She also had the confidence to join in our conversation. The beer, cider and coffee were good, and the food very good. I enjoyed the chicken and bacon club sandwich, which was both tasty and huge.

I arranged a Christmas Day my 60th birthday dinner for 16 people. I provided a list of food and a request for a toddler and a vegetarian in advance. Nobody got the Prawn starter, there were no crackers, there was no vegetarian meal, some people got hardly any veg and potatoes. We did not get our coffee with mince pies. We hardly got any drinks which was weird because usually restaurants fall over themselves to sell drinks. We also had to wait for our table. By the time we left at 1700 they were busy setting up for breakfast. I was upset and complained to the Manager who was apologetic but give me a paltry refund of one meal. Some of the food was nicely cooked the Beef Medallions and the turkey but the veg was sorely lacking. I think they had given our missing starters to the previous sittings and they were in such a hurry to get rid of us that we didnt get our last course at all. I would not go there again at Christmas. It was a great pity and a disappointment on my 60th. I wasn't in a mood to make a fuss but feel strongly enough to put my thoughts on this site to let people know. What happened to the vegetarian food was anybody's guess and to give a 14month old a full plate of food was bizarre. When I asked where the list was that I had supplied, conveniently they couldn't find it.

The Whyte Hart is currently a Beefeater restaurant, which seems to do fairly good business as it's one of the cheaper pubs in the village. Rumour has it it will be closed soon for a re-fit, which would be great - this is an historic coaching inn and could do with a more sympathetic refurb and a better and more 21st Century menu. Staff are lovely and if you want traditional pub grub, it's quite a good choice. A couple of dishes for vegetarians, kid-friendly but no vegan offerings - though the chef might be able to make something.

Just spent the night here as a B&B for a local party in a neighbouring village. I am very wary of writing bad reviews as I realise the impact on businesses and livelihoods, however.... For £70.00 I just felt I had to. The whole place is falling apart with leaking roofs & ceilings, margarine & ice cream containers set out in various places in the pub and along corridors to catch drips. A lot of the ceilings looked like they were about to cave in. A very strong smell of damp everywhere so much so that I could smell it in my sleep. The bar service is so slow although he did apologise & explain he was new. The pub was not busy .The room was pretty disgusting tbh and is in dire need of a lick of paint about 5 years ago! Wallpaper peeling off walls and nasty looking Lino in the minute shower room. The sheets were clean but that is literally the only good point I can make. On closer inspection in the light of day it was even worse than it initially looked. Breakfast in the restaurant took for ever to arrive, we asked twice how much longer as we had to get off. Got pretty much barked at the second time I asked. When it did arrive it was nice but we had to wolf it down as we had been waiting 40 minutes by now. When you think what you would pay in a Premier Inn or Travelodge, this really was a huge rip off. This room is worth no more than £30. My advice is find somewhere else!

One of the prettiest villages in Surrey, located in the rolling Surrey Hills and near Godstone Farm, a great destination for families. Pubs abound so they have to be good to keep their custom around here and the Whyte Hart is very good for what it does. It's a Beefeater so the dominance is obviously on meat but they do offer a few alternatives such as chicken, fish and a couple of vegetarian dishes. The interior is full of oak beams and cosy corners and the best thing about it is the friendly, attentive staff.

Pending reviewSeveral of us were booked to stay here after a family Wedding last week. I rang in the evening ahead of arrival to mention that we would not be checking in until after MN as it had not been practical to leave the Wedding and return again, Henry took the call with no hint of inconvenience or issue offering his mobile number and put us at ease. Our party arrived for booking in after the Wedding that night at different times, including myself with two younger guests who were quite merry (in a good way), to be greeted by HENRY, after midnight, complete with unfaltering patience and smile throughout, despite being asked the room number and directions to it at least 4 times by one of the more merrier on returning yet again to the reception , This was just to say thank you, its not every day that your Son gets married, ' Basil Fawlty' is not what you need to round of the memory of the day, and everyone needs a Henry at the end of the day with such a pleasant and patient demeanour to add to the wonderful memory of the celebrations-just excellent, its people like this who underpin ones memory with these type of stays and this guy is worth hanging on to, there have been few places that I have stayed that could offer such genuine welcome and patience especially late at night. The bed was very comfortable, the early morning maids/cleaners were friendly too (remember me I couldn't get back in and you helped me?)The breakfast was fast and really nice. Called in here for breakfast on Sunday morning with my husband to be told we can't sit in the dining area as not staying at the hotel. Instead were were put on a giant table next to the juke box and bar. The table was dirty. The staff must have realised it was wrong to tell us we couldn't sit in the breakfast area so told us we could move. It was marginally better but unfortunately the window sill was filthy and the table too. We eventually were asked if we'd like a drink, 20 mins later - there were about 6 other customers! The food was ok, I just had the toast and my husband a cooked breakfast but it nothing special. Packet sliced bread is always a big issue for me. Other customers who obviously been staying overnight seemed ignored when they entered the dining areas and the choice of juice/cereal they had on offer for them was poor. The manager who served us seemed rushed off his feet for no reason? Stressed maybe so it was unprofessional. A Lady was also mopping the floor near us too. I don't think they were at all set up to serve customers before midday! We were overcharged for additional hot drinks too. Very disappointing. We required one gluten free meal, nothing noted on menu and waitress didn't know what the choices were, it appeared to be too much trouble! Server brought 2 of the meals to the table and he didn't know what they were "chicken something". When clearing table server pulled up his trousers at the table as well as finishing the mouthful of food he was eating, then a cook walked pass to the kitchen wiping his nose with his hand!! Guess what we're not going back!!!

My family and I went for a Sunday lunch and my sister ordered lamb. It was very chewy and very hard to eat. My steak was very poor and all chips overcooked and oily. At the end we told the manager that the lamb was too chewy and hard to eat, didn't even say about the rest, the manager said "Oh really, we never had a complaint about our lamb" and said it in very arrogant way, like we would be lying or something. Didn't take it off the bill and no discount offered. Left the place really unhappy and annoyed, because of the response of the manager. Never back again!

I phoned to see if I could book for my wife's birthday, I wanted a meal for approx. 25 people. The owner (Simon) took all the hassle out of the organising by offering me a bespoke menu for that evening. Upon arriving the staff made us all feel welcome and were fantastic all evening. I stayed over that night and the room was beautiful followed by a fresh breakfast in the morning. The whole experience was fabulous and this was all made possible by Simon and his team. A big thank you from all of us.

Party of six. Quite a quiet evening not many customers. On arrival we were made very welcome and sat in the lovely bar area for a drink before being shown to our table. The table offered was very pleasant. Excellent choice of food and the portions were large. I think we all had different items and everybody was happy. The service was excellent.Definitely recommend a visit.

I've stayed there twice and had breakfast/meals both times. The food is really good - great food, really can't fault it. The hotel rooms are basic and compact but have everything you need and are generally quite clean. The only minus is that the wifi is only in the bar and not in the rooms. I will however be using it again when I need to be in the area.

Never been to this pub before and won't go back. Strange layout and not much atmosphere - booked in advance Unyet were given a poor table near the toilets and back office/ kitchen. Slow service and average food.. Mussels I was looking forward to but were dry and over cooked with tiny amount of juice in the bottom of the pan which I think had been topped up with neat wine as it was quite unpleasant. Lots of undercooked onions really ruined it! No sign of a finger bowl either. Some dishes were ok and drinks were good. Unfortunate bad choice - had thought it would be better but I was wrong and would go to the Bletchingley Arms or Red Lion instead.

I need to share the terrible experience we had there last night. We have been very regulars patrons of the place since we moved to Bletchingley 6 years ago. We always have supported the place, its ups and downs, the good meals and the bad ones. Spent considerable amounts of money there too. We decided last night to have dinner there, we were told at 8:30 that the kitchen was closed! We asked to speak to the person in charge, the lovely waitress came back a couple of minutes later and said that we could have dinner and took our order. The head chef proceeded to come into the restaurant and gave the poor waitress such a mouthful in front of everybody!! We were shocked, my partner decided to go to the kitchen and speak his mind to the head chef who actually physically pushed him out of his kitchen!!! We then demanded to see the manager who arrived a few minutes later, very upset to be disturbed on his day off. "How dare you go into my Kitchen?" That was his approach! We were then asked to take our business somewhere else which we did, had a beautiful meal at the Red Lion. This poor experience left a very bad taste in our mouth and we obviously cannot go there again! We feel that it is a real pity. I was 20 years in the hospitality industry, ran extremely successful places both in the UK and in South Africa. I have never been exposed to such lack of professionalism and rude behaviour!!

Sat next to lovely real log fire on comfy sofa. Traditonal decor with lovely old wooden floors. We ordered a meal and opted to stay and eat beside the fire which was lovely. The chips were hand made / hand cut and really tasty. the goats cheese tart was lovely with crisp pastry and the chocolate brownie was one of the best I have tasted and once again homemade. The landlord was friendly and although busy took time to chat to us, he has been a landlord for many years and you can tell that his customers satisfaction matters to him. A great all rounder pub restaurant and I noticed they are dog friendly too. A relaxed , friendly atmosphere with tasty hearty food.

Stayed for work a few weeks ago, now catching up with outstanding reviews. The hotel is very old and so some leeway needs to be given. Parking was no issue and received a very friendly welcome. The room was the usual hotel fare, bed ok but not to my liking. The food was OK however the quite expensive burger was rather overcooked and dry. I was not give a choice on how it was cooked...My colleague had the meat ball pizza which looked really quite nice. The main fly in the ointment was the amount of black mould in the shower cubicle. This really does need to be improved urgently. It looks awful, whether it is active or not. The whole area needs to ripped out and refitted. So would I stay here again...no until I knew that the black mould issues had been sorted out.

Fish and chips and poached salmon, both really tasty meals, nicely prepared and served quickly without fuss. Decided to call in for Sunday lunch as we went back. We have visited The Whyte Harte many times, including two Christmas Day dinners, and two New Years parties. At the moment, the service is hit and miss. I took my visiting mother-in-law and family to the restaurant on Friday, and was disappointed by 1) the average service (slow, uninterested, despite us being only one of four tables taken at the time), 2) the quality of the food (the veg had to be returned for being undercooked) and 3) the lack of attention to detail (for example, ordered olives, not provided, still charged). The Whyte Harte has the opportunity to be the best pub in Bletchingley, but it's punching well below its weight at the moment, sorry guys.

I was taken for an early Father's day meal on the Sat prior to Father's Day by my wife daughter and partner, unfortunately my son was in New York so he missed out. We really enjoyed the food, and the service was good as well. We thought the price about average and certainly not inflated to an unacceptable level. It's good to see the new owners making a go of things as we knew this pub back in the early eighties when it was impossible to get in the pub most evenings due to quality of the food and the then prevalent drinking habits, how things have changed! Since we moved back to Bletchingley we have made an effort to support local pubs and business so it's sad that some have gone. We only live up the road so we will certainly be back and would recommend it to friends.

I stayed in this old inn whilst away on business and normally like to eat my evening meal away from the hotel I stop in. As this place is a pub and good reviews had been written about its food, I decided to eat here.I was not disapointed. The menu is not extensive but has all the usual traditional British pub food..... pie, steak, battered fish etc. I chose the haddock and chips and enjoyed every mouthful. Don't get me wrong, this is not michelin star food but is good wholesome cooking, presented well.My only gripe I had was the bar maid. All the other staff I encountered during my stay were friendly and more than helpful but the bar maid on this evening (Monday 1st June), was miserable and a little rude. She served me when I requsted anything, so did her job in that respect, but she made me feel like I was putting her out, bareing in mind I only went the bar 3 times, once to order food and twice to order drinks. This was not service with a smile and all she seemed interested in was continuing here conversations with another customer sitting at the end of the bar. A shame really as she lets the whole place down.

18 of us visited today for a family birthday celebration and I'm really glad we chose to come here. Dom and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Food was great, we had thought for the size of the party that we should have pre-ordered the food but never got round to it. It wasn't necessary, the service was great and we all got our food at the same time, piping hot and well cooked. Our 2 year old granddaughter was thoughtfully served first so she didn't have to sit and wait getting bored. We all came away saying what a great afternoon we'd had and all said we'd recommend it and would like to come back.

Why on earth would you but somewhere that was thriving due to its food and service...then come in and change the staff and get rid of he chef?????? Prices have gone up and quality had gone right down...miserable barman , slow service and VERY average food...standard pub grub but certainly not worth over £20 for a steak and chips...gave his a second chance and unfortunately just as bad as when they took over - massive shame!

Met friends for lunch. I selected a mini beef and Stilton wellington for a starter. Very pleasant but couldn’t really taste any Stilton. Had turkey main which was nice although the veg was over cooked and rather dried up. The pub itself is warm and welcoming and the staff were very helpful
