Fantastic little pub with truly excellent food and the service was great. Nice atmosphere and didn't feel rushed or overcrowded. The food was excellent perhaps the best steak I've had for a long time. Very friendly staff can't wait to return.

Music evening no food fabulous evening

We were here just over a year ago and really enjoyed it - so much so that we returned with visitors very shortly afterwards, booking on their answerphone, only to find the restaurant was closed as owners on holiday. Nothing on the website to indicate this, and no return phone call to indicate it, so a wasted 1-hour round trip... We came yesterday with same two friends as originally and everything seemed good - good wine choice at bar, Elaine took orders and explained everything. One of our party had allergy/intolerance to onion, garlic and chilli. I really don't like onion, but it doesn't affect me. All was explained, removal of offending items discussed and an appropriate selection of meals ordered. On almost completing the prawn cocktails which three of us had, we noticed what we thought were red onion pieces at the base. We queried it, waitress apologised - we rejected replacement as we'd eaten virtually all of it. Elaine came over, apologised that she hadn't made the onion issue clear to the kitchen (and who puts onion in prawn cocktail anywhere?!). She rather unhelpfully offered a dose of Gaviscon to my friend. We accepted this as one of those things... Main course came, and both I and my onion-intolerant friend had fish - now garnished with a very large decorous spring onion! Apologies offered, including taking meal away and redoing, but fortunately it was easy to put the spring onion to one side. Slow-cooked lamb shoulder was excellent; fish OK (lemon sole was very thin - I'd have been better having their standard fish and chips, also far cheaper!) Scallops starter excellent, prawn cocktails (apart from the onion) was so-so - nothing special. A few chunkier large prawns would have been nice. Neither comment nor apology offered when we went to pay, and (so far as we know) nothing deducted from the final bill of £183. No offer of a complimentary coffee or dessert for their error with the onions... Oh, and their menu on their website is woefully out of date - don't rely on the prices there; although most of the dishes remain in place, costs have gone up quite considerably. We were told to rely on the Facebook page for their current menu - but when I checked when we got home, there wasn't one there... Sorry, Michael and Elaine - you really must do better. It's a shame, as it's a nice place and nice people - but there are plenty of other good restaurants within a half-hour drive of us. Final moan? Why don't owners (here and elsewhere) respond to Tripadviser reviews? Acknowledge when you've taken time to write a good review, and explain/apologise when something has gone wrong? I like to think my reviews are as objective as possible, and your customers are the cheapest form of management consultancy...

First visit and can truly recommend this place. Warm open fires and a warm welcome. Really good food.

The White house is somewhere I'd visited once or twice more than 20yrs ago.... Moved out of area and I'd forgotten about how nice it was... That was until we remembered last weekend and went back. Very organised pub/restaurant. Beautiful food And surprisingly not that expensive for such a nice place and quality food... Not be another 20 yrs before we're back that's for sure

This was our first visit but we will certainly be back again soon. A very warm welcome on arrival set the scene for our visit. We had booked for Sunday lunch and we were very pleased. Excellent and plentiful food, friendly service from all the staff and excellent value too. A really good range and able to choose from the Sunday lunch menu or the main menu or switch between the two. Highly recommend you visit.

The Sunday roast is excellent - beautifully cooked meat with a selection of freshly-cooked vegetables, roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. It never fails to please. ❤️.

Had a lovely meal here, the food was amazing, the steaks are definitely delicious. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and although not an establishment where they automatically add a service charge, we were more than happy to leave a tip as the service was outstanding. Well done team, great food and great service.

Decided to visit after reading so many positive reviews. The pub is a typical traditional village local and has a very nice atmosphere. We were surprised how busy the place was for an early Wednesday evening. And personally, I was surprised and pleased to see two of my favourite ales on tap - Farmers Blonde and Timothy Taylor's! As for the food, it definitely wasn't typical pub food, but very good quality and all cooked to order. There's a varied choice of courses, but they appear to specialise in steaks, all supplied by a butcher in Yorkshire and really very good! Not the cheapest meal we've had but really good food. We will definitely be making a return visit.

Just walked in on a Sunday rather than booking. They were very busy but made room for us. They even let us bring our dogs.

We were taken here by our neighbours and this place doesn’t disappoint.The menu is one of the best I’ve seen and matched by the cooking of it by the very friendly and hospitable chef indeed all the staff were brilliant nothing too much trouble .I had the halibut what a delight definitely be back to this little treasure

This pub was recommended to me by a nephew of mine and I'm so glad I took it up! The White Horse Inn is located in a gorgeous little village near Retford and is definitely worth a visit. The staff are friendly and informative and work in a quaint old English setting with low beams and even lower door frames! The range of beers and wines is excellent and something for everyone. Where it comes into its own is when you go through to the restaurant. The menu is simply fantastic and the quality of each dish we tried was magnificent! My wife and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, including the Ritz in London and Gordon Ramseys in Las Vegas. I can easily say that the quality and range on offer at the White Horse was as good as anything they could muster! I'm shocked that they haven't got a Michelin star above the door, but there's time yet!!

The White Horse is a lovely gastro pub in the small village of Misson, near Bawtry. They have an extensive menu, together with weekly specials with lots of different fish dishes as well as pub classics. Portions are generous - no one leaves the White Horse feeling hungry, and the standard of food is very high. Elaine is front of house, and Michael is the talented chef - they will both make you feel very welcome!!

1. The vegetable wellington resembled a Greggs cheese and onion bake...little veg and lots of soggy dough. However, it was agreed for this to be removed from the bill; 2. Wine by the glass was very expensive...glass of decent red..£12; 3. The bill wasn't itemised, just a handwritten total figure (dodgy?); 4. When I asked for an itemised account, it seemed that the veg wellington hadn't been removed. Sorry, but we won't be returning.

Not been here for a couple of years. The place seems to be as we remembered ( very traditional decor and building ). The menu is quite extensive and we opted for the halibut `special` which was very good, if possibly a bit rich for some. A good selection of beers and wine was offered, so overall an enjoyable experience.

Another wonderful meal for 5. Starters 3- scallops with black pudding, 1- black pudding with bacon & poached egg, 1- prawns. Main course 3-halibut, 2 - sharing a Chateaubriand. Desert 3 - Eton mess, 1- trio of deserts & 1- ice cream THANK YOU

Lovely traditional pub with some nice quest ales. Lots of choice from 3 menus for Sunday lunch, a specials menu, a Sunday roast menu and an al-e-carte menu. The staff are so welcoming and professional and really make people feel at home, the chef is visible and chatty. Fabulous food, super ales and excellent staff ,highly recommended.

This is a unique and true gastro pub serving excellent, hearty food of the highest quality cooked to order and served with warmth, sincerity and a smile. I was in town on business and popped-in on my own to eat after being recommended by a client. I was welcomed warmly, served a fantastic pint and enjoyed beautiful scallops with bacon and black pudding, followed by an amazing Beef Wellington. I won't mention the bread and butter pudding, because that would be greedy. You are very lucky if you have this place as your local or you can get to visit this pub for a regular treat. I can't recommend highly enough.

To the White Horse at Misson last night for a birthday dinner. It was an absolutely beautiful meal, probably one of the best we have ever had (and we've eaten out a lot!). We shared a starter of scallops with black pudding - the nicest black pudding I've tasted. I had the Lobster Thermidor and the Birthday Boy had Surf and Turf. Both came with chips, Dauphinoise potatoes and green veg, and everything was delicious. Dessert was a bread pudding for the BB and a Malteser cheesecake for me. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked questions. Service was prompt but not rushed. All in all an excellent meal in a restaurant l would highly recommend.

Booked for Saturday night last week we have been before but must say the food gets better if it can we started with the sharing fish platter fab and the onto our mains Halibut absolutely fantastic The staff are very friendly and-the lady who takes the orders and I guess her husband Mike the chef run an absolutely fabulous place we can’t fault

One of the best meals out for years. A fantastic find! Log fires, comfortable lounge, nice small bar area, great selection of drink. Very friendly atmosphere. Couldn’t be more obliging. Very Clean and well run. A fantastic menus and a separate specials options also. All our food was cooked to perfection. Really could not fault it in any way. Thankyou to our hosts. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but I can assure you, you will not be disappointed at visiting this place. From the moment you walk in until you leave, you are welcomed and looked after. The food was far more than what you may think because I thought pub food, however the food was deserving of some expensive restaurants I have visited. We will be back to try the seafood platter we saw someone have.... Thank you for making us feel welcome and for keeping our drinks topped up!

Absolutely stunning, as always. My husband and I haven’t had chance to go with covid but we came back tonight and absolutely blown away. The service is second to non, the personal approach from the chef/owner is something else. Outstanding. And the food tonight was genuinely the best meal, we have ever had, at ANY restaurant- ever. We had the shark g platter- Chatubriand/lobster - cannot recommend it enough

We have not been in the White horse restaurant before, but a friend of ours was impressed. We were very impressed indeed. Not only a top quality food, but top quality service as well. We felt treated as individuals rather than a number, and this is very important. Most restaurants treat clients as numbers are not interested in quality or service. We will be back.

Excellent evening meal for four of us; great personal service from owners, with chef coming out to talk us through menu, check for allergies, offer suggestions. About 20 minutes from Doncaster, 25 from Gainsborough. Great fish menu - we had mussels, monkfish, swordfish, halibut - and shoulder of lamb. Reasonably priced, most mains around £18/£25. One to return to!

Came here with friends on their recommendation - but their last visit was 10 years ago! However, not at all disappointed. Easy parking in their car park or on the road outside, and bit of a classic old village 'mind your head' hostelry! On arrival we were invited to sit in a comfortable area with our drinks, and were given menus; shortly after, chef (and co-owner) Michael came out to help us with our choices, answer questions, and ensure that any preferences or hates could be accommodated - he shouldn't have asked, as one of our party disliked onions and garlic, was gluten intolerant, and had a few other issues! But Michael assured us that as everything was freshly prepared he could easily tweak anything and leave out any troublesome ingredients. We had prawn cocktails and a bowl of mussels: mussels good, prawn cocktail was sizeable but average - maybe larger prawns, cucumber chunks, would have added to it. For mains we had their shoulder of lamb, halibut, swordfish and monkfish. Lamb was beautifully soft (as their menu says, 'no need for a knife!') but a tickle of fat remained even after the lengthy earlier slow cooking. Fish dishes were all excellent, as was the selection of fries, dauphinoise potatoes, veg and salad to accompany the meals. Sauces were willingly provided in quantities we requested... Too full for desserts, none of which massively appealed; maybe next time we'll forgo starters and have something at the end. Great service throughout, and really nice to see Michael before, during and after service, checking all was OK. Individual dishes certainly aren't expensive, but we managed to have a bill of around £160 for four, including a bottle of wine and other drinks. Elaine was behind the bar, and advised on choices of wine and stayed for a pleasant chat as we finished our meal. I gather they have been here for around 15 years, so they clearly know their stuff - you won't be disappointed! Check their website for a sample menu; fish dishes, understandably, tend to flex depending on availability so ring ahead if there's something you are desperate to have on the menu or to find the current day's offering. I look forward to trying their Sunday roast.

Gorgeous food in a lovely setting and fantastic hosts.

First time visiting The White Horse, we were greeted by the Chef, the Bar Staff was interested in pouring our drinks to suit us. Lovely meal a restaurant standard . The food scrumptious. Would recommend other oeople to go and enjoy the experience.

What a welcoming place. We stayed 2 nights in Misson and visited on both nights (hoping to dine). On the first night they were not doing food but ordered us a takeaway and provided cutlery and plates. Both we and our dogs were made to feel very welcome. On the second night we were equally welcome and enjoyed an excellent meal in the dining room (with well behaved dogs) after a pre-dinner drink in the beer garden. Both we and the dogs enjoyed our visits.

Great service, food and atmosphere. Came for Sunday lunch and we were so very well looked after. Food was great but disappointing amount of roast potatoes served with the roasts but lots of everything else and you get mash too. The waitresses were well trained and knew the menu well.

Fabulous pub! We had family reunion and had booked at the Angel Inn to stay (really tastefully decorated rooms) not realising we'd be eating at the White Horse Inn. Easily walkable from the accommodation. Wonderful warm welcome not only from the fire but from the Landlord and all the staff. They all took the time to chat and were brilliant with the dog too! We weren't rushed. Had plenty of time to ponder over a very varied menu. The food was delicious and very well cooked. Definitely worth a visit.

One star for the discount on the worse Sunday lunch I have ever eaten, took my grandson has a treat but opted out of the Sunday lunch and had a fish course which he said was good. I had pork more fat than lean the potatoes had come out of jacket potatoes no butter or extra mashing plus overall it was only warm, my husband opted for topside of beef good choice but not at this pub my husband tried three different knives and couldn't cut through it. I felt cheated at pay £56 he gave us £14 discount some good are the other reviews getting free meals for their good reviews, I would be starving to go back there, give me the Sun Inn at Everton any day

Second visit yesterday lunchtime . Ordered the Wagu beef , not sure worth the extra , main course food not very hot , plenty of it , but had we wanted to refill our plates , food would have been stone cold . Starter and desserts very good . Will go again and mention above when placing order .

Always an amazing meal out. Make sure to ask for a ladies size wine everytime. The owners are super friendly and the food is always delicious, and now they serve wagu beef. Thank you for a great date night. xx

Wonderful village pub but with great wholesome food. If you want chicken nuggets and chips or pizza this isn't the place. But if you're wanting a good roast beef then get booking! It's even great for a cheeky pint or two. Definitely recommend.

Went here yesterday they opened up early just to get us in now you cant get first time there and will not be the last what a gem this place is all the staff are fantastic... and the food was out of this world king prawns the size of golf balls if not bigger the stake was done to perfection I couldn't complain about anything thank you for squeezing us in

Fantastic small pub/restaurant in a lovely village setting with a great selection of wonderful food (especially the Sunday lunch) the guest beers are expertly looked after. We visited the White Horse on the last two Mondays with friends. On arrival we were met in the porch by the landlady, asked to sanitise our hands, had our temperatures and contact details taken and shown to our table. She explained the new Covid...

Had an excellent meal here. Both the starter and main were delicious (couldn't manage a dessert). The place itself has a traditional decor which is really attractive and welcoming. Great staff and super service. I would highly recommend.

We have been regular customers here for a while. Mike & Elaine go above and beyond to accommodate everyone as best they can. Social distancing measures are strictly in place; adhering to the track & trace upon entering, checking for temperature, Perspex sheets between tables...

Tidy little take away menu available consisting of burgers, fish and chips, scampi, nachos. Lovely homemade chips accompanied both our spanish burger and scampi. Had a drink whilst we waited, nice pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord. Covid secure and plenty of parking on the street...

Had an absolutely fantastic 3 course meal under the Eat Out to Help Out scheme costing us just £10 per person for restaurant quality food and a varied menu. The food quality and service were both first class and we’ll certainly be returning soon
