The sun in Bassetlaw

Booked for a Saturday evening meal. We have been to the Sun Inn at Everton several times, but not the Retford one. We weren't sure what to expect being in a town, as opposed to a village. The only thing that disappointed us was that we'd never been to the Retford one before! Both Sun Inns are excellent- fabulous, tasty food, well presented. Tastefully decorated restaurant, with well designed outside area too. Welcoming, efficient and professional staff. Great value too. Will definitely be returning to both the Retford and Everton restaurants.

We often visit the Sun Inn in Retford and enjoy it every time. The staff are friendly, attentive, courteous and smart. You are always made to feel very welcome. The food is lovely and I would highly recommend it.

Been a few times now, definitely recommend, food is amazing so is the staff. Highly recommend the Sunday lunch, definitely be going again.

2nd visit and it didn’t disappoint. Great customer service from Lewis who made pre orders for a large group (when numbers kept changing) a joy. I liked the singer ! Not intrusive at all but gave it a lovely atmosphere. Thanks again , we will be back xx

There was a wedding on so it was busy and loud but that's no fault of the venue. Cocktails were good, everything cost about what you'd expect, the place looked nice inside and out. Only gripe is that I got fish and chips because I wanted to play it safe get something I knew I'd like, and the fish was actually quite poor. Good chips, but batter on the fish was too much compared to the amount of fish and all of it tasted overcooked. Also tried the "pickled onion rings" and checked with the chap when I ordered that they were indeed onion rings made from pickled onion, which he confirmed. I thought that sounded incredible, I love a monster munch, but they were a real disappointment. No discernable difference from a regular onion ring. Would still absolutely come back here if in the area.

Well what a little gem in the middle of Retford. It was our first visit & we were impressed. As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome by friendly staff. The choice & quality of food was first class & the portion size certainly didn’t disappoint. The pub was nicely furnished & the outdoor area is so pretty. We will definitely be visiting again. Would highly recommend.

The Sunday lunch was really lovely and the sticky toffee pudding was awesome and believe me I have tried a few. Also nice Malbec really smooth. The service was brilliant made our day thank you.
