The Ship Inn in Bassetlaw

Went for Sunday carvery, really not what we expected. It’s not your usual carvery as you choose the meat and the server puts the rest of the food on your plate. The veg is on a table to the side but it’s mostly stood in hot water keeping warm, but making it tasteless and you cannot help yourself as it’s put on a plate while you stand there. There are different size plates to choose from but £12.50 for what you got seemed a bit much. The whole place is in need of a refurb and the loud music being played throughout made us decide we’d try elsewhere in future.

Ordered food, took a hour for put food, once we got it the burger buns were rock hard, I said something to the waitress/bar tender, she swiped my plate away without saying anything, served someone behind the till then she came back with my food and dumped it in front of me, they my dieter mentioned that her daughters burger was just as bad and she grabbed the plate and walked off, no answer from her, again she served someone at the bar then came back and dropped the plate back off and she said "by the way the burger isn't like that all the way through, it's just the edges that are hard because they are toasted buns" then she storms off, I found her rude, even while we were eating she was giving us the death stare! The burger was like eating rubber, never will I go there again!

We went for Sunday lunch for a family get together. When the Sunday roast came the Yorkshire pudding were burnt the gravy tasted and smelt burnt the meat was dry and everyone on the table left their meals as they were inedible!!! The staff told us that one chef was on holiday and the other one was off sick. We all feel unwell following the small amount of the meal we consumed. The staff apologised and gave us a reduction off the meal. If you haven’t got the correct staff you should not have opened the kitchen.

Been here many times and always had good food. Today called in at lunch time & the menu had changed- much reduced options & no pies! Very disappointing so we left one drink Ps toilets dirty too Won’t be going back

We visited the pub yesterday, the staff where welcoming on arrival, we knew all the food was cooked fresh, so we was expecting a bit of a wait, but 1 hour. For a jacket potato, and fish and chip, and the food was not that hot, I did not send it back cos I was that hungry, and did not want to wait for another hour for one. The place was not clean and the toilets were dirty.

Fabulous pub. The food was delicious. 5 of us came and 5 of us left happy. Was a pleasure to be served by Shaun, who couldn't do enough for us. Philip was the chef tonight and the food was lovely. Was brilliant to meet you both and we were amazed you'd only had the place for 6/7 weeks or so. We'll see you again soon. X

Great place to stay with the camper. Ford was great and hospitality was amazing. I would recommend this whether you are passing or want to stay for the night.

Renamed as SHT INN , we booked a night with our moterhome cost £25 for electricity Hook Up. This is the second time we have stayed, definitely the last. There's no water have to drive to other end of car park to fill tank. Same excuse that pipes are frozen. The big issue is the dog POOP It's everywhere and we could smell it . The landlady said it was a dog walker that comes round at night, and can't see to pick it up, she said she would come back later and move it. She didn't pick it up for hours.Shocked she made no effort to move it before we arrived, they new we were coming as I booked in advance. The next morning we were sat having breakfast when 3 little dogs came running up to POOP at the side of our moterhome, how lovely we thought but it wasn't dark so presumed she would pick it up, but no she looked at us and scurried back inside the pub. The dog walker was one of the daughters from the pub. So we were surrounded by sloppy dog POOP again. The landlady just lied to our face. Absolutely disgusting 🫣 i would advise all moterhome owners not to use this site. It wants closing down. HEALTH HAZARD. Watch where you tread.

Great service and even better food, the steak is top notch. Came with wife for valentine's lunch and had a good time.....

Not a great start, no orange juice, no pineapple, no Coca Cola, no teapots for tea. Only 2 other couples there but service was incredibly slow. I had steak and potato pie, meat inedible as so chewy and largest potatoes in the pie. I told staff meat too chewy as I’d left it. No apology, no refund. Won’t be wasting money there again.

After visiting in 2023 and Haveing a fantastic meal we returned to the area and thought we would go for a meal Just as good as last time! Beautiful Homemade Chips…. I visited The Ship for food, we ordered the fish 2 for £20. We were over charged when ordering the food and drinks to start with. However they did say they will refund back on to the card, which we are still yet to receive. We had nearly finished our drinks around an hour later and I had to ask how much longer will the food be. The lady then ran into the back and appeared 5 mins later with the food. We could see the chips looked well overdone but thought we will try them and see. All we could taste was a burnt flavour and waited around 10-15 min to find a member of staff to report it to. I asked the lady for replacement chips. She then walked off into the back with one of the plates of food, left the second on the bar. About 10 minutes later the lady reappeared carrying the plate, picked up the plate that had been sat on the bar and slammed the food back on the table. The lady then picked a chip off the plate and squashed it in front of my mothers face, then threw the chip back on the plate of food and said there is nothing wrong with them. That's how we serve them. I said you have touched the food so we couldn't even eat it anyway now. Then the landlord came over picked up a few chips of the other plate tapped them on the table and said there fine and threw it back on the plate. We asked for a refund as this was unacceptable. 2 other customers said they were burnt and got up and left without eating. The lady then proceeded to shout across the bar saying they are not Wetherspoons and that is how they cook their food.The lady continued shouting at us abusively, all we asked was for fresh edible chips. The landlord eventually said he will replace it with fresh chips which he then explained were microwaved and in a disposable packet when presented to us. They explained they pre cook the chips in the fryer then when ordered they microwave them refry them, microwave them and refry again. Which resulted in burned hard greasy chips. I will not recommend this establishment to visit. The most concerning was the lady's attitude and abusive nature to us as paying customers. To feel threatened while explaining our concern is not what you want when going out for a special meal with my mother. I would hope the lady has realised that when customer facing you should not shout abusive comments and touch customers food. This is a disgrace and we are feeling physically shaken by the horrific experience. We have had to throw the food away as it was not edible.

We had a very warm welcome at The Ship Inn for a midweek lunch. Pleasant staff, good menu with something for everyone including a decent vegetarian offering, very generous portions. We all enjoyed our selections ( particular thumbs up for the twice cooked chips). Staff did not rush us out allowing us time for a relaxing and long overdue catch up with friends.

The team at The Ship were amazing when we recently held my Grandpa's wake there. The food was delicious (especially the quiche and chicken - I wish my bag was bigger so I could have brought more leftovers home!) and the staff were so welcoming, thoughtful and respectful. They were polite and professional when needed and they went above and beyond to make our day as easy as possible, including going the extra mile to make sure we got to our train home ok. I only wish we could visit more often but unfortunately we might not be around Bawtry as much now, but will definitely pop in if and when we are nearby!

Decided on lunch at The Ship but were sorely disappointed, chose traditional fish and chips, nice chips but the fish was overcooked, batter tasteless, another in our group ordered the 6oz plain burger, it was completely overcooked. The pub itself needs an update, looking very tired, music was a little heavy and loud for lunch time. The play area could do with a safety gate as entry is directly into the carpark. Unfortunately, would not choose to eat here again

We called in on our way home from Yorkshire Wildlife Park and I’m so glad we did! Lovely pub with very friendly staff. We both decided on Lasagna and I have to say it was the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely return

Due to the high rating of this place on Tripadvisor we decided (six of us) to meet up at The Ship. Never again. It wasn't good to say the least. My jacket otato arrived luke warm and the trout was hard. It was a Monday but that shouldn't be an excuse. It was appalling. I think the three that had fish & chips fared best but they weren't brilliant. I'm told it's packed on a Sunday but people's expectations must be very low. They need to up their game as there's lots of competition in Bawtry.

Wow! What a disappointment we had my son and family over from Australia and he wanted to do a typical Sunday carvery. Big mistake thinking we would have a lovely meal. Our shoes stuck to the carpet as we entered the front bar, had to queue as they didn’t have any staff to serve us. So waited patiently for someone to come and serve us. Table tops sticky and we were crammed in. Should have turned around at that point and left the pub. Queued again for food gammon not ready, didn’t fancy pork or beef. Vegetables soggy gravy luke warm. We all left most of our meals, not happy glad to leave. What a waste of money. Will not be recommending this pub.

Went in on Mother’s Day, the staff were very friendly, one of them was very talkative to us which was good got talking about football. It’s a nice friendly environment, the food was 10/10, lady on the carvery unit was so nice and talkative. It had a brilliant atmosphere, there was no trouble with the dessert. I would recommend this place to anyone who hasn’t been. I work in hospitality myself and they were fantastic. The staff were so quick at cleaning tables so there was no trouble there. I would come again to this establishment.

What can I say must have caught em on a off day.first had to wait for a pre booked table,even tho their was hardly anyone in.not a massive choice to be honest,so it was two child’s chicken nugget meals fish & chips lasagne;burger & chips chicken in garlic nothing special. We called in Saturday 18th Feb ( 4 adults ) Barman was wonderful and efficient. 2 pies and 2 double cheeseburgers. Burgers were massive and fantastic with superb good old homemade chips. I don't usually do dessert but the chocolate orange cake caught my eye as it looked rich and moist and it was amazing. We all had the fantastic desserts despite having very little room left in our tums. Definitely worth calling in. We all agreed we'd be back.

Excellent! Visited here with my family on holiday. It was lovely. After finding many places not serving food we were relieved to be warmly welcomed. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Especially a young waitress I think was called Clarissa. The food was equally fabulous and reasonably priced. Hope to return again.

Visited 2 years ago and food was disgusting (salmon dripping with fat, and rubber meat). Tried the takeaway fish and chips recently to give it another go and very disappointed - fish ended up in the bin.

We popped in for Sunday Lunch today, 26th January. I chose the gammon/ham and my husband chose the beef. The carrots and cabbage was awful, tasteless and bland and the meat was tough and fatty. We couldn't even cut it. To be honest, the pub itself could do with lots of TLC and updating and it would be great if the tables were cleaned properly as ours was really sticky. We will not be returning.

I have been here a few times now mostly at lunch time and I love it. Why? Because this is a no nonesense pub serving a good choice of pub grub. If you are looking for fine dining you won't find it here and you should not be looking in a pub anyway. What it does offer is a good selection of ales, reasonable quality wine and some great pub dishes. The staff here are really good all are very attentive and helpful and just very nice people. I can't wait for an excuse to have lunch out again and the ship will be my first port of call.

You can always relay on the Ship Inn for a good quality meal at a reasonable price. Theres the main menu including 2 for £12 meals as well as the carvery which includes a pudding on a sunday (unsure whether this is the case on other days). The drinks are also reasonably priced. Inside is just like any other typical pub and offers bingo, a quiz and karaoke on certain nights. The staff are lovely too, especially Chris who runs the place. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited today with my family, food was very average pub grub. We were very disappointed when the children’s meals weren’t served with adult’s meals - they arrived late and then I noticed the chicken nuggets and smiley faces had been deep fried! This is not a place I would recommend or visit again due to this fact alone. The staff didn’t seem at all concerned that the meal was left untouched and my child left hungry. Decor is very tired and the pub could do with a good clean, especially the toilets.

We visit the Ship Inn on a regular basis and have never had a bad meal. The steak pie is melt in your mouth, the cod and chips are amazing and words cannot describe the prawn sizzler, amazing, tasty and so moreish!!! Sunday carvery is excellent value for money. After the lovely food we had last time, I had high expectations. I wasn't disapointed. Friendly service. We went for the small carvery for 7.50 each. I did my best to finish it (I hate wasting food) but it was just a little too much. I was told by my friend that's a free pudding included. I declined as I was full. Didn't stop my Aunt and her other half polishing off a pudding each. Recommended! Just bring a large appetite for a small carvery ;-)

Called in today for an unplanned dinner, good atmosphere, polite staff, quick service, we had steak , lasagna and a captains mixed grill, huge portions, too quality we'll definitely go back, highly recommend

Great outside play area for the kids but they need a fence to stop kids going up on the bank. Didn't mind waiting 30 mins for a table, went in and sat down and ordered the 'Ships Sausages' which comes with veg and mash but they had run out of mash so had to have veg and chips.

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch 25 th August.We ordered fish and chips / mushy peas /////// Burger and chips///////.Lots of young girls waiting on doing a good job ,but being constantly harrased by more senior members of staff asking them to clear glasses and plates which they had allready done.Lady behind bar so concerned with telling them what to do,that she got my drink wrong 3 times.My partners burger was small but thick,so when she cut into it ,it was totally red and unedibble.My fish had to be the smallest that I have ever had on a plate ,put infront of me. I would estimate it to have been 5 inch long.The batter was rock hard ,I had to break it as I could not cut it.The fish was grey,not white.No one asked us how our meal was so we just got up and left.No thankyou or have a good day.Our first and most definatelly our last visit.

Called into The Ship Inn for a refreshing cold drink and a bag of crisp after spending a couple of hours walking round Bawtry. Nice play area for children with plenty of outdoor seating. Plenty of people were ordering food and they looked good sized portions.

Come here at least once a fortnight and never had nice had a bad meal. It has recently had a revamp of the menu and a bit of an interior revamp. Staff and landlord always friendly and inviting. Carvery and menu are lovely home cooked food as opposed to chain menus.

We've passed this pub a few times and always said that we would pay a visit. On a Friday lunchtime we did call in, and it was about 12.30. Not too busy, not noisy and a superb dining area away from the bar, though you can eat in the bar area too. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially as my wife is gluten free. We went for the carvery, which comes in small, medium and large sizes. You would have to starving to have the large size, as we had the medium and it was a big plate full.! Special gravy and roast potatoes for my wife added in minutes by the chef.
