Tom was a wonderful server; we’d gladly return for his excellent service and the delicious food. The atmosphere was cozy, with just the right balance—not too busy, but with plenty of seating and a lovely fireplace adding to the charm.

The White Horse is a lovely pub; however, every time we go there most of the ales are off or coming soon. It's 5pm on Friday and 3 of the four ales are off! The only one available is unknown to us and too strong. This seems to be the case every time we go there! No wonder it was quiet.

Place was busy. Food horrendous - no one came to clear the plates to even say how awful it was! Left everything on my plate. Had beef on bone - more like sinew on a bone. Left hungry. Such a shame as been before and food and service was good. Shan’t be going back very disappointing!

I absolutely can't fault the food. It was cooked beautifully and the portion sizes were fantastic, especially on the young eaters menu. I don't go many places these days where I actually couldn't have eaten another bite and for me, that's really important. The service on the other hand was somewhat lacking. I was stood for almost TWENTY minutes waiting to be shown to our table. The place was busy, they apologised. Less than ideal but I accepted it. The wait for the food was long, that was explained, we accepted it, not a problem. The sad fact is that we were completely let down by our waitress. She literally couldn't have looked or been any less interested in us or her job if she tried. She was simply miserable. She brought our starters out, didn't clear the plates. Brought our mains out and only took a couple of the starters plates that were in her way. We pushed want remained to the end of the table and that's where they stayed until a far more attentive waiter came along and cleared them. I was charged for a drink that I asked her for and didn't receive. When it came to settling up, we didn't leave a huge tip having spend £230 on food and drink and the look on her face was disbelief, like she thought she'd earned one. Disappointing that she'd put a bit of a dampner on an otherwise lovely meal out.

My only star is for the staff (albeit there were only about 3 of them) but couldn’t fault their attentiveness and professionalism. They were the only positive and tried to make the best of an extremely poor experience for us, which we realise wasn’t their fault. We arrived and it took around 15 minutes just to be seated as the poor woman behind the bar was seating people whilst also serving and taking food orders. When we got our menu’s, we had to ask 4 times if we could actually order food (we counted 4 times within the space of around 20 minutes that we got up to ask one of the waiters if we could please order). The food came within a reasonable time but was SO unbelievably shocking! The potatoes were really quite inedible and the rest was below average, cold and lacked flavour. We were given a fresh bowl of potatoes, having complained, which were fine but not particularly enjoyable. Unfortunately the two other parties in the same room as us (a couple and another family) had also complained about the meat (which we overheard had been refunded) and the potatoes which they had also found inedible, so we knew it wasn’t just us! They said they’d come for a wedding anniversary but wouldn’t be returning. We had been for a lovely walk and wanted to celebrate my mum’s birthday as a family and this was such an anticlimax and really not what we were expecting. Don’t normally leave reviews but we will never come back for food and certainly wouldn’t be recommending it.

Haven’t visited this lovely, ancient pub for so many years since it became a Chef and Brewer and we had a truly delicious lunch today. Really good menu catering for a wide range of tastes. Food was very well presented, the beers and Aspalls cider were excellent and the staff so enthusiastic, friendly and diligent, working at a ferocious pace. Well worth the two hour walk and we are looking forward to returning on a regular basis from now on. Well done team.

This place needs help and I hope they find it soon. It’s beautiful and iconic and has incredible atmosphere and this was our third or fourth visit overall but we haven’t been there in few years. We took our friends in and it was such a disappointment as the quality of service and food were very questionable, the only good thing on our table was the slow cooked beef from the roast and a surprisingly nice turkey. If the pub doesn’t have enough chefs or staff, cut the opening hours, not the quality, as this way you are losing your regulars as well as future business and it’s such a shame, especially with the contrast of what expectations people come with to this cute and famous pub and what they currently get.

Service was beyond appalling. Firstly we had booked a table and we were waiting 15minutes (timed) to be seated. In the end we sat ourselves down. A waiter did not approach us so we ordered at the bar a starter and main. The starter came out within 10mins, and 15mins later we had finished the starter (standard stuff). Then we waited 20mins for main and I asked the waitress we were ready for the main, she told me "it's just cooking". No one has taken the starter plates also or asked if we were fine/happy. Anyhow a further 30mins pass (50mins total now) and I said this isn't good enough what's going on. The barman checked with the kitchen and the order hadn't gone through to the kitchen. So the waitress lied/assumed and wasted our time. In the end we requested a full refund, we were told it would take 2 weeks to process on card. However, 2 weeks passes and nothing. I called the pub up multiple times no one answered, I emailed the pub multiple times and no one answered. I had to go through head office (chef and brewer to get the refund) in total it took 4weeks. This pub is run poorly, don't go, the service is awful, and when it goes wrong the service afterwards is worse.

We booked for lunch after a lovely day out for my husband’s birthday. We received a warm welcome from Mark. We had a seat in the window looking out to the pretty village & church. We ordered the sharing platter and steak sandwiches. The service was friendly, prompt and professional. Out waitress was attentive, as was Mark, both checked on us throughout our time there. The food was delicious too. The perfect stop off with the bonus of a pretty village to wander around before or after your visit to the pub/restaurant. I would recommend. We went out of our way to visit and were not disappointed.

Wouldn't recommend. Payed £3.20 for a garlic bread, got a single slice of toast cut with garlic butter cut into halves. Ordered two drinks with lemonade and was served soda water instead? Just gave me more soda water when I took it back and said it was lemonade. Not the poor bartender's fault he was new, the management here is a bit poor. The manager came out to take over and after trying to fix the lemonade line gave up and just opened bottled lemonade after a 15 minute wait at the bar. Not really the kind of service I expected from an establishment of this calibre. The atmosphere was nice at least.

I once was a very regular customer at the White Horse as it was once an excellent pub. I moved away from the area a few years ago but recently came back as my Grandmother had passed away earlier in the week and as the White Horse was one of Her favourite places to have a family gathering including Christmas Day Lunch so I thought it would be nice to bring the family there (8 of us) for dinner. I had pre-booked a table for us. When we walked in the place seemed very quiet which was unusual but thought nothing of it. There were no staff to greet us, bar was empty. We stood there for a good few minutes and a young man who was obviously a member of staff as he did serve me drinks later looked at me then looked the other way and walked off. Eventually we were shown to the table which was in the bar not the restaurant as I had expected as it was a dinner booking. We ordered drinks at the bar and placed our food order again at the bar rather than someone come take our order. I am sorry to say that the food was very disappointing. The fish looked undercooked and my Beef rib was cold. We were offered the desert menu after our main but only 2 of the 8 of us decided to order as non of us enjoyed the Starter or main. 1 of the desert orders was for the small brownie and ice cream. Well they certainly were not kidding with the term "Small" Litrally 2 inches square brownie and a teaspoon of icecream! I belive this alone was around £7? We are not talking Gordon Ramsey quality here but you are charging the price I'd expect to pay there for that! We booked this this meal specifically at this Pub to remember my Late Grandmother who had passed away 3 days prior. I really do wish that we had either not bothered or gone elsewhere as the White Horse has really gone downhill in terms of service and food quality. I paid the £260 bill but did not leave a tip. The only thing that I did leave was me and my family including my Mother who'd just lost Her 89 year old Mum feeling very underwhelmed and disappointed and sadly with no desire to return again. Given the History and the tourist attraction the pub from its setting and appearance in past Blockbuster Films it's a shame that it has definitely gone down Hill. Do I feel our food was worth the £260? Absolutely not but given the circumstances of our visit on this occasion I paid and left rather than ask to speak to a manager to discuss the failings. I do feel that the management need to really take a very close look at the running of this place as at the moment I feel its going very much in the wrong direction.

My wife and I visited here for lunch whilst visiting Shere. The pub looks great from the outside and the inside is lovely. As it was a nice day we decided to have lunch in the garden. We were disappointed by the appearance of the garden furniture which was very worn with parts of the table coming adrift. Also the flower planters were full of dead plants and weeds. If the management was to spend a little bit of time and money refreshing this space it would make a great difference. I must say that the food was delicious and the staff were really nice and friendly. If the garden was tidied up I would have no hesitation given the White Horse 5 stars next time.

It's been a while since visiting the White Horse, and our return was very disappointing. Welcome was underwhelming, the staff, scruffy, and the pace too slow, with first drinks taking more than ten minutes to arrive, and it was a very quiet evening. First course of two portions of crispy calamari had lost heat and barely warm, and it was losely arranged on too large a plate, not attractive. One main course, mixed grill was good, but again served on a cold plate, again poorly presented, and the requested mustard was a no show. The big disappointment was the portion of grilled seabass. Probably less than 4 ounces in weight and presented with 4 new potatoes and some vegetables.....not worth £19!!!. When raised with the staff we were told that it was prepared to the Chef & Brewer spec!. Well it's not good enough. We've used this establishment on and off for over 30 years. It is no longer on our list to return. For those of you visiting to celebrate " The Holiday" , its not like that anymore!!!!

Like a lot of others who have said here, their service is less than to be desired. I reserved the table for 2pm and was not given my table till 2:25pm and asked to have drinks when we were actually here to have food and we were hungry. Then the table next to us (that came after) got their starters and mains while we were waiting another 45 mins for mains (nothing special) only. Didn't stick around for dessert as I didn't want to wait another eternity for it.

A really lovely Sunday roast and amazing service from Ash and Lou. They made our 2 children feel really welcome and special. Will definitely recommend and be back :)

First time visiting Shere and have to say it wont be our last. From the moment we entered the White Horse and was greeted by a really happy/pleasant young man until we left everything was 1st class... the food was excellent just the right portion sizes and the service was even better.. well done to the management for employing such a happy team

Had an amazing evening at The White Horse. We stumbled upon it during a spontaneous detour and couldn't resist the charming vibes reminiscent of "The Holiday." It lived up to our expectations with its picturesque country pub atmosphere, friendly staff, and especially the delightful manageress who took great care of us. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend it! We'll definitely make a point to stop by again next time we're in the area. Truly a hidden gem worth discovering. Many thanks!

Just had the most wonderful time at The White Horse! We ended up there by chance during a spontaneous detour and couldn't resist the cozy, holiday-like atmosphere. It completely exceeded our expectations with its quaint country pub setting, welcoming staff, and the incredibly attentive manageress. The food was simply divine. I can't recommend it enough! We'll definitely be sure to drop by again next time we're passing through. What a hidden gem! Huge thanks to everyone there for a fantastic experience!

A friend and I decided to have lunch here a couple of Saturdays ago without a reservation. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that unless we had a reservation, we couldn't eat here. Despite noticing a couple of empty tables, we respected their policy. However, after leaving and checking online, we found an available slot and booked up. We returned straightaway and were seated without issue. It left us wondering why the hostess didn't offer us a table when there was availability. The cherry on the top was being led to a back room totally filled with empty tables. If there was ample space, why were we turned away? Bad customer service, it just looked lazy. We had a nice meal, but it was an odd start..

My husband booked this for Mother’s Day lunch, on arrival we were shown to our table in a small very compact part of the pub. The lady behind me actually said, were a bit too close for comfort and I couldn’t put my coat at the back of the chair. We were quickly asked for drinks and shown the menu, this was a special lunch for Mother’s Day. We ordered and our starters arrived, they were lovely and quite tasty. Our mains arrived soon after, I found my beef a bit fatty and my husband said he never got crackling with his pork. We then ordered our desserts, but they took a long time to arrive and we eventually got our desserts and mine was served with a soup spoon to eat a dessert was unique. Felt service was lacking, I know it was Mother’s Day but, also squeezing too many tables into a small area, says service was compromised. Shere is a lovely village and this famous pub really need to up their game to encourage clientele and not squeeze in too many people when they think they will get more people come in.

Service was lovely and nice drinks. The food was really underwhelming. We both had the pie, and they were obviously frozen pies and frozen oven chips, which I could have done at home. The gravy was watery, and we got two pieces of broccoli, two small carrots, and some peas. Come for a drink but not for food.

My girlfriend wanted to visit this pub as it is linked with one of her favourite movies "The Holiday". The staff was really friendly and nothing was too much. we eat at a lot of Chef & Brewers and are rarely disappointed. Service was fantastic, speedy but not rushed. The atmosphere was great, low level lighting and the fireplace was roaring. Lovely, quaint, countryside pub. My girlfriend had the salmon salad and I had a rib eye. my steak was cooked perfectly. Brilliant selection of drinks in the bar, something for everyone. I had Peroni. Value for money and we will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for a pleasant evening.

Proper pub, friendly staff, decent food, huge portions. We visited on a weekday lunch time and it was quiet. If you like brass rubbings, dark wood, fairy lights, beer this is the place for you. Nice outside area too.
