before people write crap on this site, no the facts the last landlord left due to sky high rent and no help from pub co. the IN FACT HAVE TAKEN ON ANOTHER PUB IN GUILDFORD, of which the pub now allows the landlords a small profit , and indeed the food offer is in fact fantastic . and a good selection and price. when they had the white heart. the pub was indeed full of returning customers, the food was some of the best in the area, and indeed the staff where fantastic ,they new the job inside out along with fantastic customer service. NOW THE F===INK CRAP ABOUT CUTTING A GAS PIPE , WHAT A LOAD OF LIES, THE LAND LORD WOULD BE ARARE SUCH AN ACT IS CRIMINAL DAMAGE . SO BALLS TO THE DICK THAT WROTE THIS CRAP

Went for the steak night this evening and the food was delicious! Great value and lovely service from the waitress Anna :) Only not given 5 stars for food as the choice of desserts was quite small so we didn't have any but the steaks and starters were great!

Wow, I have to say that the service and food just couldn't be better. We visited today, and the lady behind the bar and the lady serving us were both just so warm and inviting with impeccable manners. Food was great, and what was really refreshing is that they do not automatically add their tip to the bill, which so many now do. This was a big factor for me to leave a bigger tip than what I normally would do. All in all, this place is a real gem

Spend your money in businesses that care more about all customers. Others have said it - real missed opportunity. We're local. Had high hopes for what we understand is new management. Really unwelcoming set-up and atmosphere for a local pub for drinks. It seems all about those that know the staff - you feel like you're walking in to someone's house uninvited by the set up around the bar. At last visit seemed like a mother and child on the sofa in pajamas (?!) with groups across the front that all seem to know each other. You feel like you shouldn't be there. New management only made set up worse with TV displaying some form of computer games for kids (more on the private living room feel), and a gambling machine. They are clearly content with their 'locals'. If you aren't one of them - support other local businesses that want to benefit everyone as there are plenty of nice pubs close by.

Having been here last year and had an amazing meal while visiting my son, we booked again. It's changed hands. 7pm booking. 4 tables with customer inc ourselves. We were not asked our meal choice til 7.45pm, this did arrive 25 mins later and the food was okay for example 3 sausages, enough mash to feed 2 adults and green beans, gravy. I then had to ask at the bar at 8.55pm for our table to be cleared and pudding ordered. The puddings on the board were incorrect....the sticky toffee pudding was more like golden syrup pudding, served with ice cream, the brownie was dry and edging hard. We waited 40 mins for one cup of tea, and had to remind them. Left at 10.15pm...very slow given how quiet they were. Thankfully my son is moving so won't be going again

Just moved into the area and came out for a meal and a few drinks, the beer, food and service was great, will definitely be back!

Second visit & first with new management. We were told previous landlord left under a cloud when th massive debts and his parting gift was to cut the pipe inside the main oven. The new guys seem to be taking it all in their stride. Welcomed with many smiles, assured of a table, trunks and menu brought immediately. Ploughman’s lunch (to share) best in region we’ve had to date.

Awful atmosphere. Huge missed opportunity. Relatively new to the area. Wish it was a good local but keep giving it a go and always the same. Unwelcoming atmosphere. Not really set up to just come for a drink - not many places to sit in the bar area. Three sofas make up 90% of bar seating and all face in to the room rather than being set up in confined areas for different people to use so the same group sit across the whole front area. Every time we’ve been in there is a large group taking up all the bar / sofas who all seem to know the staff so feels like you’re waking in to a private event or someone’s living room. Could be really nice if they set the bar seating up better and worked to create a better atmosphere to small groups to come in and have a drink. Hopefully they sort it out as staff are friendly and food is good.

Lovely food and great service in a lovely old pub. I have been coming to this pub very occasionally since around 1991 and it never disappoints.

We went for lunch to celebrate my dad’s birthday. Food was good. Steak cooked well, my step mum said the seabass was the best she’d ever had. I loved Rita’s Don Pedro amarula, vanilla ice cream and coffee shortbread. Delicious. The service was attentive and they seated us where we had requested due to my dad’s disability. Would definitely return.

Had a delicious lunch here on a cold Thursday afternoon. Welcoming host, prompt service in a warm comfortable soft furnished dining area. I ordered a traditional beef pie (my first since moving to UK) and was not disappointed. Creamy mash, nicely seasoned, broccoli steamed to perfection, and the beef and mushroom pie had a tasty gravy and that thin pastry topping was delicious, I wanted more! It hit the spot. Latte & espresso served promptly. WC clean. Good parking at front and rear of building. Outside covered dining area. A great location as lovely woodland walks, Village Green, pond, May Pole in arms reach.

Excellent food. Whitebait was nice and crispy. Extremely tasty pie of day, steak and onion, with plenty of meat and gravy and al dente broccoli. Cricken breast and chorizo in mushroom sauce also hit the spot. Nice environment to enjoy a relaxed lunch after a blustery walk. Pleasant and efficient service also added to a positive experience

Just make sure you’re a village local, or you’ll get a weird attitude from certain staff. I actually live in the village but don’t go in often due to the attitude from owners/managers who think I’m not a local.

Brilliant food. Excellent service. Comfortable surroundings. Great value for money. The serving team go beyond the call of duty to make your visit worthwhile. Do go. Then, like me, you will return, even if it's a 10 mile drive each way. It's worth it.

We were a group of three that went for Sunday lunch. We were told there was a large group of 30 at 3pm and to come for 4pm so as to avoid the large group. When we arrived at 4pm we were told we might have to wait for our order due to the large group sucking up kitchen resources. We all had the roast beef, which was generally good - nice roast potatoes - meat quality acceptable. I don't personally like mashed parsnips and prefer roasted, but that was a minor complaint. The main issue I had was with the overbearing passive aggressive service. When the bill was due, the waitress stood over me and said 'I suppose you want me to leave' while covering her face with her hand to avoid any comment or eye contact - the experience was strange to say the least. We felt as though we were being spoken to like we were children the whole time and certainly didn't feel welcome. This is another pub that automatically adds 12.5% to the bill for service. We begrudgingly paid the extra, to avoid a scene, but given the above, were not particularly overjoyed. We have decided to not return as there are plenty of other similar offerings to try around Surrey.

Wow between Christmas and New year place was basically occupied by staff ,prices for drinks extortionate not a pub anymore didn't really feel welcome

Good place away from Guildford but yet very close. The service could have been better. Apparently they were geared for Christmas dos and it would have been quicker if we’d have chosen to do our Christmas do rather than a normal lunch with colleagues

A beautiful place with a relaxed atmosphere. Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Had a fantastic evening here and would recommend the gluten free pizza - it was delicious.

This is only the second time we've been there. We had a party of 6 for a special event and it was marvelous I had the pork belly roast and it was just like a proppa roast dinner not like the reconstituted roast potatoes you get from the chain pub's The staff are great although I asked for a coffee and she said she had forgotten? But forgetting this it was a great experience and the meal was great 👍

I never do reviews, but on Thursday went to The White Hart pub at Wood Street village for a meal, and it was absolutely fantastic. Can't recommend it highly enough. A definite 10/10. Every food course was delicious, the surroundings were calm and tasteful, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. It was one of the best meals out we've had in a very long time. Please pop along and support them. You won't be disappointed.

Nice enough but some aspects might have been better. Staff were nice. Not much choice of ales. Highlight was an almond cake and cherry dessert.

Came here to celebrate a birthday. They allowed me to arrive early to set the table which was nice! The staff were very attentive, friendly and chatty. The manager was lovely and made us feel very welcome. One small critique on the food.. the chicken filled with chorizo dish only came with one roast potato and a few tenderstem broccoli, would of appreciated a few more potatoes, other than that the food was delicious, we had garlic mushrooms, chorizos and padron peppers as starters (they were all lovely!) Would definitely come back again.

We have had superb service today from Yenna and Alfie. Thank you so much for being so attentive to our needs and desires. We all had a delicious Sunday roast followed by naughty deserts. All amazing. Would thoroughly recommend this place.

Having booked a table for a long awaited family reunion, and informing them at the time of my Dads Gluten intolerance, we arrived to find that there was nothing on the menu of any suitability. When we asked the servers for assistance, they brought out a A4 folder of dietary restrictions, this was very confusing for my 86 year old Dad, even the staff couldn't be of assistance. My Dad eventually choose a so called super salad, which he took 3 bites from, and left, not so super. The only positive was that I enjoyed my sea bass. The staff were young, didn't know what they were doing and off no help. Avoid if you have any dietary restrictions.

Have been coming to this pub for many years, decided to take friends as the food has always been good. Well we were not inspired by the drastically reduced menu we were presented with. There was nothing that stood out! One of the 2 salads did appeal but by adding some protein (chicken) would have brought it to over £20, which seemed rather steep! So two of us had 4 tapas dishes to share. We both regretted it; the pork was very fatty, empanadas (all 2 of them) were greasy with a tough pastry, the halloumi was the best thing. The 4 dishes cost £32 and we didn’t feel satisfied! My friends sea bass did look lovely and she said it was. The new , reduced menu was not a winner for us and don’t think I’ll be back to eat there for some time now, which is a shame as it is local for me. The staff ( especially the young waiting staff) we’re very professional, friendly and a credit to the white hart.

Stopped off here for a Sunday roast, found on Google while visiting the area. Lovely tasty food, plenty of it. Friendly and attentive staff,nice cosy and relaxed, but smart establishment, highly recommend.

This review was for the previous owners. The food here is usually really good. There is a wide variety even for a vegetarian like me. I would give them 5 stars, but they don't allow dogs inside and they don't do a veggie option on roast dinner.

The food is always great. We had tapas dishes today just fantastic. The empanadas are to die for. Well worth a visit great food and service .

I have lived in Guildford for over 20 years but never heard of this pub until today. What a pleasant surprise. Food excellent, service top notch and a lovely location. Will definitely be returning.

A fabulous pub. The staff were wonderful and made a big fuss of my dog, the food was to die for and the service was delightful. They even kept the kitchen open a little bit longer so I could have their vegan chocolate mousse (highly recommended). We will definitely be back.

They offered to open up in the morning for us to have breakfast even though we did not stay overnight.. took full advantage of the offer and they confirmed motorhomes are welcome for stopovernight.. Lovely place, nice people, very good food

What a superb pub on the outskirts of Guildford. Great quality food and very friendly and helpful staff. I noticed that smart locals like the pub which is always a good sign. Big car park and plenty of seating inside and out. I enjoyed my Perronis and tasty breakfast and recommended the White Hart if are in the area.

Went for lunch and the team were friendly and helpful, we were made to feel very welcome. If you like tapas I can highly recommend the food here, we shared 6 dishes between two which more than enough. The food was all absolutely delicious, I particularly recommend the Katsu Chicken Skewers and the Croquetas de Jamon. We will definitely return.

I was with my two daughters (11 and 15). First impressions were "WOW!" Pretty pub in the country side made a nice change from the hustle and bustle of town (where we would normally go for a meal). We all ordered the wagu buger with fries and not a crumb was left on the plates (which is saying something with two fussy eaters in tow!). Best of all was the service. Really friendly and professional team. I will definitely be returning and recommending The White Hart to family and friends.

We come from Worcester to see friends at Aldershot and we been here several times this night the place was not full the service was a bit slow the staff was great the food and drink was fantastic but they charge a surcharge on the bill I don’t like this I like to a tip my selfBut the food fantastic

We have visited a couple of times during June. Both times we were sat in the patio area which was lovely on a summery afternoon. The first visit was amazing, we had excellent service , the staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. On the second visit we were seated in the corner of the patio and sadly the service wasn’t very good despite it not being busy. The staff appeared new, with no supervisor providing direction and the staff were aimlessly working around not really knowing what to do. We were very patient but we had to get someone’s attention to order our initial drinks after waiting 25 mins and then had to ask to place our food order after waiting 40 mins. I pointed out to the server that I thought we were being forgotten which sadly didn’t improve the service. Food arrived without cutlery and only one napkin between 4. This also required chasing. I also noticed some staff had their masks pulled down, when in the kitchen or behind the bar. Which made me a little uncomfortable. The food was again excellent on the second visit too. Stronger team leadership showing the staff what they need to do, ie asking customers what they want to eat and drink and clearing tables after each round of drinks, would go a long way to improving the customer experience. Particularly as the menu is not at the low end of the price range.

Delicious food, great service. The pizza is amazing. The ambience was good - outdoor beer garden with patio heaters and parasols. A super evening. Second time here for food- always delicious.

We've eaten at the White Hart many times before and every time we go, the pizza steals the show. We ordered it tonight as a takeaway (due to lockdown), and it was still just as hot and delicious. Have to recommend the Carni Amori pizza, it's one of the best. Friendly staff regardless of the difficult times going on. We can't wait to return when lockdown ends.

One of my favourite places to dine but on Saturday 31st we had to complain about the steaks as they where very poor. Our friends who where with us use it a lot and the steaks they had where very chewy and full of grisly. Took the cost off the bill which was good and the service as always even in these different times was very good.

A fantastic trip! The staff were so friendly and the food is classic pub food but cooked and presented beautifully. The area around it is perfect for a long walk. We can’t wait to go back!

Come here fairly frequently and never disappointed with the food . Very extensive menu which includes the traditional pub classics but also some more imaginative choices . Yesterday I had their Gurnard/ Haddock special and my partner the Pork/chorizo and both were generous and very tasty. The pub/restaurant is attractive and the staff good too .They are respectful of Covid 19 protection measures . I highly rate it here and will be back again soon

Excellent meal and service combined with eat out to help out throughout October Mon - We’d what more could you ask for

I met a friend for lunch and we actually managed to sit outside despite the October weather. We chose it because it's about half way between London and where I live in Sussex. The garden is a nice enclosed courtyard which gets the sun. There was a good choice on the main menu plus specials of the day and it was quite hard to choose. Food and wine were very nice and service was friendly. Good Covid measures with paper menus and plenty of sanitiser points, all staff wearing masks and separate in and out doors. When we asked for the bill it turned out they are still doing their own version of eat out to help out on Mon to Weds in October, so a very small bill which was great and a big surprise. Will definitely go back. One small point is it's quite hard to find as no sign at the beginning of White Hart Lane which is a very small entrance off the Green.

Friend took me to the White Hart on our way to RHS Wisley. Charming pub, even in these COVID-19 times, although the dining area lacks a little in the atmosphere. But with guests filling the (reduced number of) tables the ambience was good and made me feel normal. The staff were very attentive. We shared all our food (halloumi chips, carni amori pizza and goat's cheese salad) which seemed fine by the staff. Each dish was excellent, the pizza reminded me of one in a neapolitan back street pizzeria (full of Italian families, not an English word spoken or menu in sight), the salad was very tasty with sweet balsamic dressing and the crispy halloumi chips were accompanied by wonderful dip. Excellent!

Friends who are regulars here took me to dinner at the white hart and I was so impressed! The portion sizes were amazing and the prawn fettuccine was DELISH! We were served by Macey who was so entertaining whilst providing excellent service. We will absolutely be back! Thanks so much xx

Amazing pub, delicious food and incredible service! It’s so nice being able to go out in all this uncertainty and The White Hart make it so enjoyable, safe and easy! We had a steak burger and a pork pizza from the specials wow wow wow! But the one thing we want to mention is how spectacular the service was- particularly Maisie she was magical, they were so busy but she did all she could to make our dinner fab! Thank you to all the staff at the pub working there butts off at the moment!

Super food and great service Called on a warm summer Saturday evening having read good reviews. Was not disappointed. The Vegan Mezza starter was fabulous, the mains were similarly wonderful - Kerala Coconut Curry and a Lamb. All very well cooked and attentive service. Will return.

My family and I were delighted to escape the heat after an outside funeral! It was such a tranquil setting, where you could have been in the sun or under the large shades. Curtis and his team were so welcoming, Maisy our waitress was fabulous, we were all well looked after. The staff behind the bar were all very friendly too.The food was delicious, I personally recommend the king prawn fettuccine, beats any of those chain Italian restaurants out there! The puddings were fabulous, especially the oreo cookie sundae. I will definitely be returning!

All I can comment on is the service. Four of us planned a special celebratory dinner. We booked online and specifically asked in the comments for an outside table. When we arrived we were told there was no record of it being outside. Not to worry as there was space. After being seated for half an hour we had still not been given menus or had a drinks order taken. The table next to us, seated after us got both drinks and menus so maybe we were just unlucky. When their drinks arrived there was a mistake in their order which I have to say didn’t fill us with confidence at this point.We tried to get the attention of staff but despite getting eye contact no one came... so we left.

This pub/restaurant has been very good and not so good over the past ten or so years. At the moment it is very good indeed and has been able to maintain this standard over the last six months. Over that period, I have eaten main courses of lamb, venison and sea bass and my lunching colleague has eaten venison, liver and skate.Today his choice was Pan-fried Skate, one of the lunchtime specials, and I opted for the Sea Bass fillets. Both of these arrived at the table, fresh from the kitchen and piping hot. Both were delicious, good plates of lovely food. We left nothing, in fact I advise readers/diners to ask for some bread to mop up the sauces/veloute, so that you miss nothing.We are nothing if not traditional when it coes to pudding, one Rhubarb Crumble and one Sticky Toffee Pudding, which brings me back to the headline. The sticky Toffee pudding at the White Hart is superb. It is dense enough but still light, with just a little edge of crust, served with Cornish Stem Ginger Ice Cream. I've eaten Sticky Toffee all over the UK, some of it pale, some of adulterated with dried fruit but none as good as this. The White Hart serves excellent food, with good, friendly service and really good pud. Rumour has it that this restaurant is up for sale. Any incoming owner needs to maintain the high standards now being achieved. I don't want to return in a few weeks to find its all gone downhill.

My friend treated me to lunch today we were given a really nice table and the meal was excellent I had the Pan fried calves liver which was delicious and for dessert we had the pancakes that were great! I would have know hesitation recommending to friends. May I also add that the service was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful, can’t wait to return!

I can honestly say I had the best burger I’ve ever eaten and I travelled the world and had some great ones. Lovely pub in a great setting with a great team and a lovely manager Definitely make this a regular spot from now on.

Double Birthday celebrationMy primary school friend and I went for dinner to celebrate both our February birthdays. We met up a few years ago under the clock at Waterloo, having found each other again after 40 years - so it is always now a special time for us! The manager made us most welcome and gave us a lovely table by the fireside, together complementary glasses of Prosecco! We enjoyed a vegetarian sharing starter, mushroom risotto and sea bass main courses. We opted just for coffee and were greeted with a beautiful plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate, ice cream with candles and hand carved strawberries - such a beautiful touch. Apologetic for the delay in receiving our main course our wine was on the house too. Our evening was perfect, delicious food, great cosy atmosphere, and personal service and hospitality. Thank you. Will be visiting again soon.

Our friends and ourselves love coming to the White Hart, it’s equidistant between our home in Kent, and our friends in Salisbury. It’s situated in a lovely position by the village green and the service is friendly and efficient. Quintessential English. Because of this we try to visit several times a year as we have done for many years. Today (Wednesday 5 Feb ) was no exception and even enhanced by the manager providing the normal good service despite his painful hip and knee; a star.

Visited for the first time for lunch with my wife and my daughter who is studying at Surrey University. A lovely warm welcome as soon as we arrived, the service and the food were both great. The only regret is that we forgot to leave a tip! We will certainly be back.

Went here on New Years Eve. Just three of us, quite early. It filled up quite quickly though, so booking is recommended. Had Oriental Platter (large) which was a huge starter even with two people sharing; would recommend you go large if there are three or even four sharing. A small platter would do two people. My main was calves liver and it was fantastic. My partner had vension and my son had a burger (steak or chicken are options; he had steak burger). We were all happy and very full, so didn't bother with puddings or coffees. Total cost was £100 for three including drinks. I will go there again. Special mention to the waitress who was great. Waiter who was there seemed to chat to people at the bar and was slower to act.

Finally got attention of waitress to order drinks. Starter was excellent. Mains arrived without wine. Were told that there were no wine glasses ??@@@ and they were being washed!!! Really? In a gourmet pub? Took ages for wine to arrive. Slow cooked lamb couldn't even be cut with a steak knife. Told Restaurant Manager who admitted that there had been a few other diners who had reported the same about that dish...so he had it swapped for another meal which took 10 minutes to arrive, by which time partner had nearly finished his. Not exactly great service or food. Was given a discount in the bill but, in hindsight, that wasn't good enough. A restaurant like that could do a whole lot better.

Family Christmas get together for Lunch. Large party, all ages and various food preferences. They catered for all with a smile and “can do” approach. This was really appreciated and a credit to the management and staff training.

We had an evening meal here recently and were so disappointed as the food was a real let down. We chose the Asian sharing board - the squid was tasty, but lukewarm, the prawn toast was oozing with fat, the dim sum were overdone, the vegetable rolls were very oily and tasteless. The only thing that was good were the fish cakes.

Visited for lunch with a friend during the week. Lovely lunch and staff very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend

Lunch for three with wife and daughter. The place was packed out with veterans and it looked like the staff were buckling under the strain. But no. We had a waitress who looked after us very well and the food was excellent. Starter of squid for daughter and me and gratin mushrooms for Mrs B. All extremely enjoyable. My main course was the pork belly which was the best I have ever had. Served on a bed of mash and cabbage with a very tasty gravy it was superb. Daughter, on some weird diet, had ham and eggs which looked pretty good. Mrs B had bacon and cheese beefburger but it was overcooked. I don't know why it seems so difficult to cook a burger in some restaurants. However, it was all hot and tasty and served efficiently despite the chaos going on around us. At just over £80.00 for three of us with drinks I felt it was pretty good value.
