First time visit to the pub , amazing warm greeting by the staff , showed to our table , all the waiting staff were super friendly and helpful. Roast dinners were fantastic, choice of beef, chicken , pork and all with home made Yorkshire puddings and selection of vegetables. Generous portions and everyone was happy with the food. Great pub with fire and a buzz of locals and tourists, exactly how a English pub should be , would return 100%

I visited this pub in August I am writing this review in disgust! I received a parking fine and immediately phoned the pub for them to verify I used the pub on the date of the fine. A young lady informed me I needn’t do anything as they would inform the parking company and the fine would be squashed! A week later I received a reminder and again I phoned the pub and a Second Lady informed me she would deal with it and actually remembered me going in the pub to meet my cousin (who incidentally was in a different white hart !! ) Last week I received a debt collectors letter so again rang the pub and another lady listened to my story and said she would get the manager to deal with it! I was uncertain then as the two previous employees hadn’t dealt with this so I rang the company! Only to discover that as it had not been ‘dealt with’ by the staff as promised / I had to pay £170 !!! As far as I was aware I had entered my number plate correctly on the machine on the bar!! Please don’t get caught out like me! A very expensive cup of coffee!!!!!

I first stayed here whilst I was working in the local area and the staff were very welcoming and got to know me over the course of my stay. Since then, I’ve returned a number of times for short stays and for dinners. Newenden is under an hour's drive from where we live in London so we often pop down on a weekend. I had a ribeye steak out of their new aging fridge they have in the pub, it was cooked perfectly with all the usual sides. Thoroughly recommend visiting if in the area or want to get away from the hustle and bustle for a weekend!

One of the few country pubs left in Kent. We stopped here a couple of weeks ago and the pub was as nice inside as it is from out. The bar had a good selection of beers and we were lucky enough to sit out in the garden to enjoy breakfast and lunch. Afterwards we were able to walk the dog along the footpath by the river which is a pleasant route, there looks to be a footpath down the side of the pub so we will try that next time. We’ll be back in a few weeks for the live music evening.

Urgh this pub has so gone down hill. Implemented parking fines for the smallest car park. Signs up everywhere youd this it was a military base. £4 for a diet coke. £22 for a salad that was literally leaves and one measly slice of undercooked beef. No tomatoes, cumber nothing. Had to send 2 meals back because they were inedible. And they add a service charge and don't say. After ordering drinks and food for everyone they added over £15 worth of service charge and I was carrying my drinks out to the garden. I asked them to take if off which they made a fuss about. Honestly avoid. Best of taking your own snacks of you've been paddleboarding nearby or head to Tenterden only 15 mins drive away much nicer. I avoid this place like the plague.

Unfortunately this pub seems to have fallen into the trend of adding a ’discretionary service charge’ on to the bill, whether you like it or not. Few people would not want to ask for the bill to be revised, so you are effectively forced into it. It should be my choice whether I should tip. I would not return here for this reason. Aside from this, the pizza was reasonable, but not excellent, especially consider the prices were around £16 on average (including the 10% additional fee). Staff were pleasant. Toilet was gross.

I had lunch after my morning cycle ride and it was great. I went for the belly of pork and it was an outstanding pub roast. Really creative use of vegetables including a leek gratin. Spuds were crisp and fresh, as was the Yorkshire pudding. Pork was generous succulent and creatively served with apple stuffing. I may be biased as I live in the village, but it’s great when your ‘local’ comes up trumps. Well done White Hart chef and team!

Had a beautiful meal this evening. I had the chicken & bacon salad. It was fabulous. My partner had the posh hot dog... he liked it. My son had the prawns. A hit from all of us. It's a locals pub but we felt welcomed and the staff were lovely. I recommend.

The setting is lovely, it's a very pretty pub with a lovely garden and play area. But the staff made us feel unwelcome and the food was average and overpriced. They include a 10% tip on the bill by default which is a bit of a stretch as you have to go up to the bar to order food and drinks and then get your own cutlery and sauces - so the waiting staff only deliver your food which isn't worth 10% in my book It seems to have an identity crisis. The playground and menu suggests a family friendly restaurant, but actually when you step inside it's very much a local pub for local people and outsiders will be judged

This is an historic pub, with low beams, an inglenook fireplace with a proper wood fire, and local real ales, kept well. The landlord and the staff are all friendly and welcoming. Our room was in the oldest part of the pub, but it was spacious and sensitively refurbished, with a good-sized en-suite bathroom. The food is plentiful and, in my opinion, perfectly positioned, being unpretentious wholesome pub food, while also being very good quality and a few steps above the most basic. It’s what you really want from pub food. Considering the way prices have risen in the last year, it was also pretty good value. For those of you who like/believe in such things, there is also a resident ghost!

I knew the White Hart from previous visits in the past. With an inglenook fireplace, oak beams, hops hanging above the bar, you won't find a better or more traditional country pub. The beers are excellent as is the food and reasonably priced. I recommend "Level Best" a locally brewed Northiam ale. This time I booked a room and stayed the night as I was attending a function in the pub. The room was basic but comfortable, though there are bigger and more comfortable rooms available. I was in the rear of the pub and it was very quiet even though the pub is on the main road. Perfect. I have always found the pub staff and clientelle to be really friendly and have always had a great time. I thoroughly recommend the White Hart to all visitors whether just popping in for a quick beer or a meal, and for those who are visiting the area for a longer period.

Stopped off for lunch. Very quiet pub on our visit. Food very standard but overpriced and without being informed a 10% surcharge added. Wouldn't mind if some kind of special service had occured but why am I paying 10% to have my food brought to the table ? Am I supposed to collect the plates from the kitchen myself ? Very annoyed it was added without any notification.

Nice little local pub, serving decent food cooked from scratch. The menu is not huge, but covers most of the bases, which is a good thing (I would be more worried if the menu was several pages long). We both had the prawn & scallops to start, which were nicely cooked and very tasty. The pork tenderloin main course went down very well - the pork was well cooked and flavoursome. The 8oz rib-eye steak was a little disappointing - it looked a bit small for an 8oz steak and lacked a little flavour. However, it was cooked to a medium-rare as ordered and was quite tender. The homemade baked cheesecake was very nice indeed. Service was relaxed and friendly.

Just like someone else’s review, the staff are lovely and went out of their way to accommodate us for dinner and breakfast. However the room was pretty bad - the bed literally dipped in half and we spent the night lying the wrong way on the bed just to try and get some sleep. The windows are also paper thin (appreciate this is an old pub) and would not stay open so it was stuffy and still noisy. One for just 1 night stay rather than a weekend away.

On the way we had seen the pub but the road was so busy we didn’t stop so on the way back we stopped for some lunch. The beer garden is lovely, plenty of space for everyone, a child’s pay set and child tables and chairs. The pub itself was attractive on the inside with plenty of seats if the weather was not too good. We ordered 2 baguettes which came with proper chips and a dressed salad garnish, everything was delicious. The staff were very nice, friendly and efficient, food was reasonably priced, came quickly and was hot when it got to our table. We will be back Thank you for a great lunch experience

Stopped here for a few days last summer. Good spot for visiting many local attractions in Kent. Had a comfortable room although a bit noisy from the kitchen clearing -up after the evening service. Would suggest that if you need a quiet room you ask for one. The TV did not work, but the proprietor fixed this immediately the matter was raised. Staff in general were very welcoming and pleasant. Food was impressive for a small, rural pub - a varied menu, well cooked and presented and reasonably priced. Breakfasts were notable - plenty of choice of what to order, cooked or cold. Overall, a good value for money stay and would recommend.

What could possibly go wrong? First thing? Wasps may be a natural part of country life up to a point - but this was insufferable. The garden was heaving with them and they were obviously coming from a local nest. It costs a few quid to get rid of them but if you are running a pub it has to be a no brainer.

Booked a table for my partner to celebrate his Birthday and New Year's Eve, arrived to find ourselves seated at a table that was opposite the toilets (how exhilarating) and facing a till, what a complete letdown! The table was booked well in advance, we should at some point been informed that our table was to be next to the lavatory with the option to cancel, this would have provided us with the opportunity to find an alternative restaurant. We complained to the waitress and was subsequently offered a tacky coffee table in the conservatory bar area as an alternative which was completely unacceptable. Feeling completely COMPROMISED we had no choice but to leave, arrived home at 21.30 pm. Thank you, White Hart, Newenden for spoiling not only a New Years Eve celebration but a BIRTHDAY celebration also!!!! Evidently, tables for two aren't considered a priority and why should they be when larger group bookings are so much more profitable!!!! Shame on you! YOU DESERVE ZERO RATINGS!!!!!

My husband and I went here with friends on Sunday 22nd July for drinks and to check out the live bands playing in the beer and music festival - all for Cancer Research and BHF. The pub was very busy, food was being served inside the pub (usual food, I expect) and also outside because of the occasion. We didn't eat and I don't drink alcohol so I did the driving. There is a pub car park but I parked down the road opposite the pub in a grassy area. I guess parking would've been much easier if the charity event wasn't on. We live pretty close by (only over the last six months or so) so I know the area a little bit. It's a beautiful part of Sussex/Kent. Anyway, we had such a good time - the live music was absolutely brilliant! Totally my kind of thing! We sat with our friends (luckily in the shade because it was an extremely hot day), them drinking and me on the J20's, chatting and listening to the great music and it was a really nice afternoon. We saw The Reinvented, Chris Mansell and a bit of The Equatorial Group. My absolute favourite was The Reinvented; I cannot even tell you how amazing they were. Talented musicians and songs were great. I'd love to see them play again. A great afternoon! We will be returning soon for a drink and a meal.

We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in a large family group. Food was excellent and all fresh. Recommend the falafel starter! Good service too.

We had a good meal out in the very nice beer garden, lots of tables, and a children's play area at the end. I was pleased to see that they had a real (still) cider on draught rather than just the fizzy ones. The food was very good, and the staff were helpful. A very enjoyable evening.

I had a pathetic Caesar salad with tired chicken and my fellow diners had equally mediocre dishes. The service was friendly but haphazard during a quiet time.

I recently had a 70th birthday Sunday lunch for friends and family at The White Hart. I cannot recommend it too highly. The function room was ideal for our purposes. We had specific requirements for the layout of the tables, decorations and children's high chairs etc and all of those requirements were met to perfection. The extensive Sunday lunch menu had an excellent choice for each of the three courses and the menu was given to us well in advance of the day enabling us to circulate it to our guests, giving them plenty of time to respond. Every single guest, and there were 26 guests including 3 children, got exactly what they requested with no hitches whatsoever. The food was great and everyone commented how delicious it was. The bar and table service was very efficient and friendly. A special thanks to Kate at the White Hart for her help in organising the day.

Stayed one night. Returning to my room as I opened my door my thought was that it felt like an inferno. Then I noticed flames outside the window. Hearing laughter I thought maybe it was a barbecue. No! There was an open incinerator right beneath my window, and right next to a wooden shed. Flames were leaping up from it. I could not believe the utter disregard for both safety and the guest's comfort. It smoldered all night and stank. I can only hope it wasn't carcinogenic.

We had an evening meal recently, good initial impression (busy bar, well laid up dining area) but told that all main course specials were unavaiable, all pizzas were off (and they make a special thing of advertising pizzas), pie was off, some varieties of chips were off. Drinks came quickly but we had to ask for food order to be taken (after 20 minute wait - same senairio for a couple at an adjoining table). One member of staff seemed very busy at the bar, the other looked frazzled and neglectful of customers in the dining area. My meal was good (ham egg and chips) but my partner’s steak was tough. Portions were large. Plates not cleared for ages after we’d finished - we decided to pay rather than have to ask for dessert order to be taken.

We stayed for four days over Easter. We ate at the pub each night. The food was without exception excellent. The Sunday roast was great but the stand out item was the black pudding sausage roll starter which was supurb. There were four real ales available with the local Rother Valley Brewery "Level Best" being the big seller which was always great. The RVB Alliance which was a guest beer brewed with American hops was also outstanding. The staff were all lovely throughout our stay but special mention must go to Maggie who is just a whirlwind of energy and just never stands still. The other mention must go to the locals who always make us feel welcome. We look forward to our next visit.

I have a birthday soon and decided to recce a venue new to me for lunch. The White Hart looked ideal on the map and well situated for walking and photography. Having parked in the roomy car park, we found the pub cosy and welcoming, a fire crackling away in the enormous fireplace. It was a weekday lunchtime and not especially busy but enough folk were in there to indicate that lunch was likely to be good. And it was. My smoked haddock and prawn gratin was absolutely delicious and my husband’s chicken pie was generous and tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. Good value. Can’t wait to return for that birthday lunch!

We went in this week as a table of 4 for the pizza promotion - buy one get one half price as their pizzas in the past have been great. Come order time we were told all pizzas were off. So as it was advertising ' pie week' we went for steak ale pies only to be informed later that they could only supply 2 but there was a lamb, 1 left , we were not impressed. This was meant to be a promotion ?!

We picked this pub as it's not very far from my mother in law. After looking on the internet it looked really nice. We arrived for Sunday lunch and informed the bar staff that two of the family members lived a long way a way and were going to be about 20 minutes late. This is where it started to go wrong. The woman in charge had the hump with us from there on wards. She then questioned how many were having lunch, was it 7 or 9. We said 9 and again told her that the two were on their way to which she turn to another staff member and said we will have to add the table back!! We were shown to our table and then just left! No one offered us menus, asked if we wanted any drinks and eventually we had to go up to the bar and ask. By this time our other family members had arrived. Still no menus and then we were asked what we wanted. We decided to just all have roast and then another waitress came over with menus, after we had ordered!! The waitress and staff were quite incompetent and every time we wanted something we had to go to the bar, whilst other tables were being served. Why offer waitress service then ignore your customers. People came in after us and were served before us. The food was very mediocre and not very hot. The deserts however were very good. But the whole experience was ruined by the surly staff and their unfriendly and unprofessional attitude. It's safe to say we will not be visiting this pub again.

I went in there yesterday middle of the afternoon. Very quiet with people playing pool and watching the sport on TV. There is no real ale here, but the bar staff were terrific. A top dollar bar maid.

Lovely food, fantastic waitress, good host. It was quiet maybe due to the lack of heating which is the only negative
