Had an unplanned stop off after work and enjoyed a lovely dinner, great food and atmosphere, such a cosy pub and friendly service

We had ordered the Fondue tonight with “artisan” bread that was served mid temperature with a slice of bread and three thin slices of another bread all which were clearly bought. Not worth the money at all, the taste was unappealing. Such a shame considering we have been to the pub before and ordered artisan bread which came homemade and freshly cooked unlike today. Will not be going back for the foreseeable future, as it seemed others eating in had similar problems with completely wrong orders as a whole.

Went the Sunday before Christmas, couldn't book as full. Thankfully our group of 16 arrived in dribs and drabs and were luckily had tables and stools in the bar area given to us be others. Lovely pub. Food was good. Staff very friendly. Pirbright green across the road with a play park if the kids need to burn off energy. Will visit again.

I've been coming here with my family since I was a kid, and throughout the years there has been ups and downs in terms of quality. However, this time we were thoroughly pleased. My parents ordered the roast beef and I order the tris of roast. It's great that Pirbright offers great traditional food.

hi, myself and six work colleagues decided we would try the white hart after a shoot at bisley. We were early 11.30ish and were abruptly told food is not available untill 12. We were shown to a table that wasn't reserved which was great but after that the service went down hill. A member of the group had to keep going to the bar to get some one to refresh our drinks. We all had burgers off the menu that good of been better for the price... We all wanted another drink and the dessert menu but we were presented the card machine to pay...very disappointed as the pub looks great...

We have been waiting so long for food, even there about half spaces available. Also before ordering we asked to have separate bills, and waitress said that we can do it during pay, which wasn’t easy to do and took additional time to sort this out. There were few other moments and in overall we didn’t liked it.

Popped in for lunch recently, I must say I agree with the previous reviewer about the decor of this pub - the interior feels more DFS showroom than traditional English pub. The food was distinctly average and we received extremely slow service but to be fair it was Christmas and they were busy. We usually have the same thing in a pub and reckon that by ordering burger and fish and chips you can tell what the rest of the food would be like - if a pub can get basics like this right you know that the rest of the food is going to be decent. Burger was rated a generous 7 out of 10, chips were a bit mean and burger “nothing to write home about “. Fish and chips looked impressive, chunky chips and home-made mushy peas. Tartar sauce was out of a jar. Had to ask for ketchup. Unfortunately the fish was off, it tasted of ammonia and was overcooked and flaky inside. To be fair the batter was very tasty but the overpowering ammonia was offputting and I left most of the fish. It seemed crazy to complain at the time since we had waited an hour for our food and I hate making a fuss in front of other people. Our plates were cleared without comment and we paid the bill and left. Later on that evening I phoned the restaurant to mention that my fish was off and that the kitchen might want to review their stock. I received the standard response of “no one else has complained” …….. I made it clear that I wasn’t complaining, I just wanted to point out that I didn’t want anyone else to be served out of date fish. I’m at a bit of a loss as to what else to say really. It’s a nice enough pub but I wouldn’t rush back. Top tip: wear your coat to go to the loo – it’s arctic in the ladies!

Excellent food, excellent service. Our waiter was happy to answer any questions, including allergy information and talk us through the menu. Already looking forward to visiting again soon.

The food was delicious, and it was presented to perfection. The service was very good and the staff were really friendly and helpful when I asked certain questions even though they were rushed of their feet. The only thing was I was quite cold apart from that it was fantastic to spend time with all the ladies that I do voluntary work with. I took some photos but unfortunately I have lost the main meal one which was sea bass . So all I have are my mini creme brulee and my non alcoholic drink and hot chocolate.

A Disappointing Christmas Dinner at The White Hart, Pirbright We were incredibly disappointed with our recent Christmas dinner experience at The White Hart in Pirbright. Despite booking months in advance, the evening was far from festive. The highlight dish, the pork belly, was a major letdown. It was tough and overcooked, a far cry from the succulent, tender meat we had anticipated. The accompanying potatoes were hard and undercooked, adding to the overall poor dining experience. The pricing of the menu was excessive, especially considering the subpar quality of the food. To make matters worse, the service was extremely slow, with a wait time of over four hours for a three-course meal. The cramped seating arrangements and the uncomfortable heat in the room further detracted from the evening. The staff, though seemingly overwhelmed, appeared inexperienced and lacked the professionalism expected from a reputable establishment. Overall, our Christmas dinner at The White Hart was a major disappointment, prioritizing profit over customer satisfaction.

Exelent visit lovely food and drinks

We had booked the table for a group of 8 friends after a previous successful visit. On arrival, we were guided to a different area, having specifically requested the table we had previously occupied. Unfortunately, the table we were given was in an area occupied by a few families with very noisy children. After speaking to the manager, he moved us to the table we had originally requested. We were really happy and had a fantastic afternoon, the food was delicious and the staff very attentive.

The White Hart has sadly changed from a real village pub to something akin to a major chain pub, set up to churn out food and with no real identity. This change did take place many years ago and more recent developments haven’t really improved it. The White Hart used to be a famous pub, when the Bisley International Shoot was on, people who had come from the all over the world would say they were told they must go and eat there…it was well known for its extremely well kept beers and food that was all made on site and supplied from local businesses such as the now closed Fulk’s butchers. I realise that there is a business model that works these days and that’s what the White Hart follows. It is always busy and the food is fine for what it is. I was surprised that there was only one person behind the bar on a Friday night and the mass of dirty glasses on the bar did nothing to enhance the visit. The decor was, well it was something I would expect in the lounge of an airport hotel rather than a 14th Century country village pub, gone are the pictures of the village, replaced by weird ‘modern’ art on the walls and modern furniture that just doesn’t suit at all. The staff were very polite and friendly but it was quite chaotic. There was no feeling of the place being part of the village community and nobody there that I knew, whereas it was always at least 50% locals, especially on a Friday. All in all it was a visit that could have been to any chain pub anywhere in the U.K. which is sad considering the history of the place. Maybe that is the reality of running a pub business but I feel there is another way, one that can be seen more and more across the country where pubs are going back to how they used to be..and they are still successful,including the local community and acting as a local hub for people to congregate at for all sorts of reasons - giving the pubs regular income throughout the year. Maybe I have a biased option given my history with the pub but it did nothing to make me feel like going back any time soon. That’s not to say I don’t recommend it if you want somewhere to eat, just don’t expect anything other than the same as you could get on any high street up and down the U.K.

I always have a good male hair, but the service generally is fairly slow and not much of an atmosphere in the restaurant side but I always return as it's a great location for me a lovely building and the food is always nice

We came for a works Xmas party, food was excellent, staff fantastic. No issue with coping with large numbers all good was hot and served with no fuss. Will come back again.

I visited The White Hart for a Sunday lunch and was thoroughly impressed. The roast beef was tender and flavorful, served with crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a golden Yorkshire pudding, and rich gravy—classic and perfectly executed. For dessert, the white chocolate crème brûlée was a highlight. The caramelized sugar crust was perfectly crisp, and the creamy custard with a hint of white chocolate was indulgent without being overly sweet. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere warm and inviting. A fantastic spot for a relaxing Sunday lunch—I’ll definitely be back!

Lovely place for a Sunday Roast! Great atmosphere and service from friendly staff!

Food was okay but have had better meals there before. I had to send back the pigs in blankets as they were completely inedible. Rock hard. I asked for them to be taken off the bill, didn’t get an apology for them being inedible or offered an alternative. They ended up on the bill at the end of the meal so we had to ask again for them to be taken off. Drinks came out very late. I ordered another drink in the middle of my meal and it came out with the bill. Will not be returning

Disappointing visit for the second and last time tonight, food was sub par for the price, wife's food came out cold and daughters came out late, bill discounted but unfortunately doesn't make up for a ruined birthday meal 👎🏻

Lovely restaurant pub to visit. Parking available. We visit regularly, especially for the carvery. Sadly this time it was not the usual excellent. Chicken was dry on the edges, the extra spinach and beans not good, the beef average, the pork a very small piece. Sad as we love going here.

Awful service! Waited a long time to be seated, the front of house had no charisma or customer service. Waited even longer for the food to be served and we were the only customers there. The wait wasn’t worth it, very mediocre food.

I don’t even know where to begin with the incredible experience I had at The White Hart, Pirbright. From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a truly magical visit. The service from the team was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. The food was absolutely delightful, with every dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The cosy log fire added an extra layer of charm to the evening, creating the perfect setting to relax and unwind. I only wish I had a log fire like that at home—I’d never want to leave! A heartfelt thank you to everyone at The White Hart, Pirbright, for going above and beyond to make my visit so memorable. I enjoyed myself so much and can’t wait to return!

Came in today (Thursday 21st) for lunch. It was very quite in the pub, nice furnishings and a logfire. That's the best I can say. Service was very slow despite the place being almost deserted. Ordered fish and chips for two. Had one starter which took a long time to come. Waiting for the main course took about 40 minutes , had to go and remind staff we were still waiting. When it did arrive it was all very dry and completely tasteless, dry and almost inedible mushy peas and god knows where they stored the fresh half lemon it came with, it didn't taste or smell like lemon. The poached pear for desert was obviously bought in, if I hadn't seen it on my plate I wouldn't have a clue what I was eating. Naturally I complained. Never going again.

Oh crikey guys, the standard of food has slipped! Roast dinner was edible, not to the high standards usually met in the past. Roast potatoes like stones and the Yorkshire pudding was not nice at all. Get the kitchen staff to address this quickly. Staff great and manager super friendly

Our favorite destination pub for Sunday lunch after a long dog walk across the ranges. Food is fantastic as is the service!

I have known the White Hart since 1974 and have seen many changes in ownership and structure. A very nice little pub! Just undergone another change. Got rid of all the low tables and chairs, now sit on high chair and have high round tables! More tables in Garden. Too cold to sit outside in the Beer Garden, and it looks as though tje PM has had to back pedal on a ban of smoking outside - what an idiot! He will soon tax us on even breathing outside ?

When the food eventually arrived it was very nice. However.. We sat there for 1 whole hour (to the minute) before our roasts came out, yet 3 of the surrounding tables that arrived after us all had theirs almost instantly? There was only 2 of us and we had no extras so it was odd why ours took a full hour. We just sat there feeling forgotten. One of the male waiters was very pleasant but unfortunately we will not be returning due to the painfully slow service! Shame

A friend and I meet every 2-3 months at The White Hart. Would certainly recommend the lunch menu, we were spoilt for choice. See you again soon!

Myself, mum came to meet a friend, we drove from Portsmouth and my friend Chelmsford. Originally, I had booked elsewhere to find when we got there, the Chef had not turned up. So we were given the details of this pub. WOW was really lovely, staff were welcoming and Daniel who served us could not have been more helpful. The food was lovely and we were so glad we went here now as we will definitely be coming back.

Calamari was delicious but the fish and chips was oily.

Was celebrating a birthday (or 2) here. Had a fabulous meal and our server, Chelsea, was the best! Friendly and efficient, helping me to choose what I could have as I have food intolerances. Highly recommend and Hank you Chelsea and Chef - food was amazing!

Booked a table for Sunday lunch but were seated in the bar area (we later found out that the table we were meant to have in the restaurant had been given away to a group that turned up without a booking) which meant we were completely forgotten about and, after being sat at the table for 30 minutes, had to go and find someone to take our order. Then waited another hour for our food to arrive and were presented with a stale, lukewarm roast dinner with just one potato and carrot each. We asked to order some more drinks but were told we had to order drinks at the bar, even though we were about to start eating. Roast dinners were really disappointing and, when we'd finished eating, we sat for another 40 minutes or so with empty plates on the table and, again, had to go and find someone to ask to clear them away and bring the dessert menus. All of the different waiting staff we dealt with in this time weren't particularly enthusiastic or friendly and there was no sense of care or urgency, however, they all seemed to clock off their shifts at 6pm so Daniel then looked after our table and was brilliant. Shame as we've eaten here during a weekday and not had any issues, so it's disappointing that service drops on a busy Sunday.

Yesterday we met up with the wider family for Sunday lunch, and while the social aspect was great the offering from the pub was disappointing. Rather than any one thing it was a multitude of small issues that created this feeling - an error with the drinks meant I ended up with a Diet Pepsi rather than the full sugar one ordered, when we asked for a replacement the response was "are you not able to drink that one" which, when the drink is £4.50, the answer is clearly no - having said that after standing our ground we got there in the end although the replacement took about 15 minutes to appear. The roast was also luke warm and should have been served with a side serving of vegetables, however apparently they'd run out of these although didn't offer any apology or token discount as recompense. Service was also very slow and we had to repeatedly ask for things before they eventually appeared. I think we requested some more water about three times over a period of about 20-30 minutes before it arrived. While all of these are forgivable on their own, when experienced together it all adds up to a general feeling of disappointment, particularly when the prices are already on the steep side as they are here. I've visited The White Hart many times over the years and it used to be great, however I have to admit more recently something has changed and based on my experiences it's sadly starting to become more miss than hit of late.

My dad and I regularly pop into the White Hart after a trip to Brookwood and always enjoy it. It's very restful - a lovely atmosphere, great coffee and very helpful staff. Thanks Daniel for taking such good care of us today and putting in a special order for us :)

We booked for lunch yesterday & after a delay we were shown to our table. We then waited for around twenty minutes for someone to take a drink order & before the drinks arrived we were asked to place our food order! Drinks finally arrived about 30 minutes after sitting down, swiftly followed by our starters. Just minutes after our starters arrived so did our main course, but as we had just had minutes to eat our starters the young waitress took the mains away again. Starters were removed & four plates of dried up looking food arrived ( having been kept under a heat lamp , which the young waitress admitted.) I had asked for rare beef but the beef was brown & over cooked. When I asked for it to be replaced with some rare beef that request was refused as I was told they “ don’t serve rare beef!” Looking at other diners plates & photos on their website I know this is NOT the case! When we pointed out that we had been waiting a long time for drink orders etc to be taken we were told that the long waiting time was due to staff shortages! Would I return? NO! I have visited before & the waiting time to be served again was ridiculously long, but for me to be denied the food that I had ordered & to be told an untruth as obviously the chef couldn’t be bothered to actually produce what had been ordered was for me the last straw. We didn’t complain yesterday as we were celebrating a belated birthday & therefore didn’t want to spoil the day, but also we felt it was unfair on the young waitress who were very pleasant & just trying to do their job.

Served by Daniel - lovely chap, made us feel right at home. Great knowledge of the menu, and most importantly the ales on tap. Delicious food, as per usual. Has to be said, there's another pub down the road but frankly its overpriced and the service just isn't the same. Can highly recommend the White Hart if you're visiting Pirbright. Their recent renovation has added an extra bit of class and ambience too.

Easy to find, easy parking, friendly staff. Overpriced lager and food however. No vegan main course was available, so I had to choose a couple of side orders of which the potatoes were luke warm. Plus no table service, so it was a case of keep getting up and down. This was a table in an area of the pub I was asked to sit when I came in and said I was alone, I may add. Definitely won't be returning which is a shame as the interior looks very nice. The toilets are up some stairs which walk pass a dining table rather too closely. I wouldn't want to sit there when it's busy !

This was an awful dining experience. After ordering 2 mojitos we waited around 15 minutes and still no drinks, chased them up and the waitress hadn't actually placed the order (she didn't write down our order when asking what we would like so it doesn't surprise me) The pub wasn't busy that night and there were many servers so unsure what happened. The manager then heard us complain about the drinks but didn't acknowledge us, the mojitos were awful, just poured out of a bottle rather than a proper cocktail, for example no ice in the mojito. We left these drinks. We both ordered the lamp rump one of us had a nice meal the other wasn't edible it really was purely fat, we had to send this back we were offered another but it was too late as we should be eating together not us eating separately. This was my friends birthday meal so a shame as she ended up with no meal (I did write this on our booking but no one acknowledged this). So I ate my meal and my friend didn't have one. She then ordered a pudding which was meant to have raspberries but it turned up without the candied raspberries and just plain blueberries. No one advised this or acknowledged, when we raised this she just said yes that happens if they run out. The pudding was £9.50 which is an outrageous price for such a small pudding cream Brulé. Terrible from start to finish sadly and no one seemed to care about this.

I recently visited The White Hart and had a great experience, thanks to Chelsea and Dan. Chelsea was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. Dan, working the bar, recommended some excellent drinks and clearly knows his craft. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and their excellent service made the visit even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Came here for a Sunday lunch. Nice location good atmosphere ordered scallops and goats tea starters both of these were absolutely brilliant. Presentation was phenomenal. However, for mains ordered the pork belly and seabass, The pork was dry. Crispy veg was overcooked and the additional tenders and broccoli was overcooked. The roast was overly flavour. Perfection again let down the veg and the additional serving the meal was presentation was nice. Nice venue, just recommend you avoid the roast on Sunday.

The food was average but service was appalling. Totally ignored by the waiter I went to the bar to get my own drinks. Food arrived and wasn't what we ordered! Just don't bother !

A super pub " on the corner" the food and menu on Sunday is good and fabulous for family and friends. Service was a little slow but fine in the end (just). The service was good overall if also a little slow probably die to the number of people and the kitchen unable to keep up. A good sized car park to ensure you can get there and out easily and the outside area is great
