6 of us booked in for a meal having visited Peaslake numerous times for the local mountain biking, the place always seems to be busy so was looking forward to a good meal. Sadly, food wasn’t up to much at all. Only 3 tables of guests including us. The turkey seemed to be a very small portion for the price. One of the six meals arrived about 8 minutes after the rest. It was the beef rib and it was still ice cold in the middle, sent back and a replacement refused as the rest of us had pretty much finished. Free deserts were offered which was excepted. Reading the other reviews we sadly appear to have caught them on a bad day…!

Stayed here last minute last night and whilst they accommodated us ok thought service was a bit poor, check in was lazy, room was lovely, shower was a nightmare as didn't have an end screen and when we went down for breakfast at 10 we were too late to get served but they could sell us breakfast, what's the difference - very poor

I have enjoyed their fabulous pizzas (definitely 5 star) before, so i thought that we would try Sunday lunch. The portions were enormous, so if you enjoy a hearty lunch, this is the place to go! Great choice of beers and a nice atmosphere. I have rated 4 star, because some of the vegetables were over-cooked, which was a little disappointing.

We were looking forward to a good meal in a country pub but sadly, the food wasn’t up to much. The spaghetti carbonara portion was far too big and swimming in cream and oil. The burger was overcooked and rubbery. It seemed there were a few diners like us but little local trade which seems a shame. It was busier in the afternoon so perhaps it’s not the place for an evening hang-out. On the upside, the band playing in the adjoining room were great.

We usually drive to another pub on Thursday nights but as our non-drinking driver was not available we walked to the Hurtwood Inn, our local. We used to go there every week when it was run by the lovely Italians. Every meal was preceded by cashews and a bowl of marinated olives. Happy days. Since then, prices have gone up, the quality has gone down and the place is taken over by mountain bikers - a peculiar breed. So to this visit. We were greeted at the door by the only person delivering food, who apologised for the lack of staff. Apparently the previous Thursdays had been very quiet, so they de-staffed. Since most customers are cyclists, I think the staff really should keep an eye on the weather forecast: good weather = more customers. Duh. Anyway, in memory of the old days we ordered "Olives and Homemade Bread" starters. After a considerable delay we were presented with a piece of wood on which were 2 slices of warm bread and a bowl of about a dozen green olives, of the sort sold for £2.40 for 800g in Sainsbury's and usually found in pizza toppings. No marinade or other adornment - just olives straight from the jar. For £5.50. Main course was a Tuna Sala for £19.50. As described on the menu, this was a few small boiled potatoes, a few slices of pepper, some anchovies, halved cherry tomatoes and a semi-hard boiled egg, again cut on half, all resting on a couple of lettuce leaves. Sitting proudly on top was the worst piece of tuna I've ever eaten in a restaurant. It had some sort of glaze on it and I guess had spent a few minutes under a grill. Not on a griddle of course. It's the kind of "salad" my working-class Dad used to present - all that was missing was the Heinz salad cream. I'm guessing the chef had heard of Salade Niçoise but never actually seen one in real life. My dining partner went for the cheeseburger, which was unremarkable. In the interests of balance, his chips were good - hot and chunky, not skinny fries. The meal was washed down with a pint of bitter for £5.95. The woman serving the drinks was charming but would never survive in a busy city pub. A couple of months ago we went to the Hurtwood Inn to cash in a voucher for 3 free pizzas which we won at a pub quiz. They were incredibly disappointing compared to the Italian days, so this reviewed meal doesn't seem to be a one-off. Having been reminded of why we stopped going to the Hurtwood Inn, I'm looking forward to next week's trip to the Royal Oak in Holmbury St. Mary.

Had a wonderful couple of days running a meeting out of the Hurtwood - we had a team of ten with me running a regional sales meeting. The vibe was informal, relaxed and incredibly helpful. Neil and his team could not have been more accommodating with two lunches, breakfast and dinner served promptly and without fuss. The menu is great, varied and really tasty. The rooms are cosy and comfortable. I had not a single grumble or complaint - in fact my team are keen to return and use it as a de facto base for 121's and catch ups. NB The breakfast is utterly superb - if you don't go full brekkie prepare to have food envy (I had food envy).

Excited for salmon cakes on the special menu. But they were disgusting and inedible. They were the equivalent of supermarket value fish cakes, filled with brownish mush, no visible sign of salmon and flat, 1-2 cm thin and looked like they were fried. After one bite I couldn’t eat anymore due to the nasty tasteless mush. They also came with a small portion of cold hard chips which I left after eating one. When asked how our food was I said how awful the fish cakes were but I was told no one else has complained and no offer of reducing the bill. Very disappointed and they should stick to making pizzas.

Lovely pub and really friendly staff. Great beer selection from local breweries but the food was pretty awful. Chose the calamari and buffalo wing starters. The calamari definitely wasn't deep fried as the batter was soggy and the hot chilli wings were very disappointing. The burger main left a lot to be desired and the fish and chip main again, came out with soggy batter. Chips not cooked either. Overall, a really bad first impression for a pub I'd been looking forward to visiting. If I'm ever back in that location I will stick to the drinks and get my food elsewhere.

Disappointing visit after a very pleasant walk in the surrounding countryside. One of the food items ordered did not arrive, so had to be removed from the bill and after ordering a gluten free pizza we were informed after 40 minutes that they did not have any gluten free bases so chips and vegetables were ordered but the original pizza was also left on the bill. After pointing out the two items left on the bill there was no apology. Staff were not very welcoming or attentive and we were never asked if we wanted more drinks after the initial order was brought to our table. Food delivery was slow. We arrived at 12:40 and didn’t get any food until 2:20. The tuna salad was very rare and still cold and had to be sent back to be cooked for longer, plus it was advertised as having anchovies but there were none. It also came with onion which was not on the menu, luckily it could be picked out as they were large pieces. The venue was extremely busy and if they did not have enough staff then they should have not taken so many bookings.

No one came to check on us, had to find people to chase up the food (it will be 15 mins, it will be 5 mins- of-course nowhere near). One meal sent back to be reheated, 2 meals sent back as not ordered. After 40 mins waiting told no GF pizza bases and had to reorder. Half our group just had to leave before everyone else as it just took too long. Not angry just very disappointed.

We went there for lunch after our hike. My partner asked for lime and soda at the bar and asked very politely if we can have some fresh lime, he was speaking to the woman at the bar but the manager was sitting in the corner who just abruptly and rudely jumped in and said they don't do fresh limes. My partner ordered a medium sirloin steak but when it arrived it was an extremely rare (bleeding) rump steak. Normally we would have sent it back but we didn't want to speak to that unpleasant and rude manager so we didn't say anything. This used to be a nice pub but we are definitely not going back. Eating out is expensive and you don't want to have less than average food with bad service when you're spending your money. The ladies were nice and polite and I only hope that the manager is not treating them badly when customers are not watching.

We came to Hurtwood Inn for a lunch with friends. 1. The location of the Pub is really beautiful; although the parking space available can be improved. 2. The servers were very friendly; however, we were rushed to order our food, which I found a bit odd. 3. The food was okay. We were a party of 6 with 2 children (included) and by the time of the booking we requested one high chair only. However, at our arrival I believe the manager had some problems when we asked for 2 high chairs instead of 1. I think this made us feel a bit uncomfortable and made us feel a bit unwelcome. Finally, by the time we were leaving, I apologised with the servers because the children normally leave a mess behind. So I said “apologies for the mess”, and by the time I just said that phrase the manager of the location said “you said it” ; which my partner and I found incredible disrespectful. Particularly, given that I took the time to pick up everything the children dropped on the floor. Anyways, we will not be coming back to this place again. Thank you

The Manager should not be in the service business. We walk in the area and will often go in for a drink. We have observed the middle aged manager/owner with much disappointment. He doesn’t smile, he avoids customers, he seems to delight in telling customers to stand away from the drinks service area. He acts more like a policeman of staff and customers. We observed a delightful young waiter take a drinks order (outdoor table) from 2 weary walkers at a time when it was not busy. A few minutes later when the manager walked by, the same customers asked if they could order 2 pizzas. “Inside for orders “ was his reply. We watched the rather bemused younger of the to get up while they both shook their heads in disbelief. He might well be a good person in private but he is totally unsuitable for hospitality in our view.

It's one of my favourite places in Guildford. Beautiful decoration, very polite staff and food and drinks are delicious.

Friendly staff, they make dogs welcome and provide good service with the food and drinks.

The best burger in Guildford without a doubt. But considering that this is fast food and there is no table service, and there is no Wi-Fi, the prices are rather high.

We had such a wonderful time at Megan’s thanks to Jay. Jay went above and beyond to make our evening special, even surprising us with some delicious crisps to try for free. It was such a thoughtful gesture that perfectly complemented the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance was lovely—inviting and relaxing, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. Jay’s friendliness and genuine kindness truly stood out and added a personal touch to our experience. We couldn’t have asked for better service. Highly recommend stopping by!
