Britannia in Guildford

Its a beautiful pub in guildford. I would say it's a hidden gem cuz I've spotted this amazing place 2 years after living here lol. Highly recommended with friends cuz the outside seating place is just perfect at night time.

A great pub on the riverside. Recently had a refurb and it is really cosy. A whole rack of craft beers as well so beer drinkers will be happy.

Lovely Easter Sunday lunch for a group of 7 people which last minute turned out to be 8 people. It was no hassle at all for the staff to get an extra place setting and chair. Dietary requirements were catered for very well and the staff were very attentive to the allergens and food intolerances.

Staff are excellent, friendly and attentive. Burgers came within 10 minutes! Bit cramped with too many tables but homely atmosphere.

It is a great pub. So much to offer. A bit of a gastro when hungry, a place to grab a space and some wine when you need that moment. A meeting pub, a place to descend on with friends. It can be whatever you want it to be.

Didn't have any food but nice enough pub on the canal and yet very close to Guildford city centre. Plus they have Singha on tap

Really enjoyed our evening tonight. Good selection of beers although a basic menu the quality was good traditional pub grub, clean plates all around our table (party of ten). Service was attentive but not overly so. Looking forward to going back. 😁👍

Lovely to sit by the river in the sunshine on Commonwealth Day. The fish and chips are delicious and the pea puree gorgeous. Just be sure to pay and display in the adjacent car park!

Busy and vibrant pub with happy and welcoming staff. Good variety of dishes - predominantly pub classics along with 3 pies and a specials board.

Not impressed with prices, £11.20 for single shot of brandy and pump coke!!! Needless to say won't be coming back

Friendly cosy pub next to the river Wey. The only thing that lets it down for me is the limited gluten free options (ham,egg and chips only). They are really missing a trick as I know several people who avoid the pub for that reason. Edit: no gluten free options since the refurb except a sharing nachos. This really isn’t good enough.

The dog beds, awesome! Edit Jan 2025: gluten free beer 👍🏻 friendly staff still. Looking forward to returning later this year.

Great atmosphere , but terrible staff attitude towards customers and each other ruined the visit. Shame as it used to be fun to go to.

Bouncer refused entry for quite literally no reason, just because we were wearing Christmas costumes

Considering the very good reviews, I found this very disappointing. The main vegetarian dish was not available, the chips were partly burnt through over cooking, the fish fingers were cold in the sandwich, the mushy peas looked quite disgusting. The welcome seemed a bit sharp.

Great atmosphere and burgers were absolutely fantastic, would recommend booking a table as gets very busy.

Have been there a couple of times, nice environment, decent food. Expensive parking with only 2 hours limit. Overall, good experience

Another super experience at our tried and tested favourite venue for family gatherings, date nights and everything in between! The pub was feeling festive and nicely busy! Our food was, as always, delicious. It was a shame the roast dinners had run out but I have never had such a huge piece of haddock, perfectly cooked. Thank you to Sarah and the team for looking after us and helping us enjoy a long due family catch up!

Nice surprise. We weren’t planning on going there but arrived as a last resort through the rain. The ambience is great and cosy, the food was very good, particularly the baked Camembert and the tatin, and just being there with friends was a great experience

Only had drinks, nice sitting areas cosy, well prepared for our fur babies too, blankets bedding. Well impressed

Delicious food - the menu seems to be regularly updated, which is always good to see. Every time I come here, it has a warm and friendly atmosphere. Not too far from the main highstreet

I have been visiting for years, and have since moved in!! A lovely atmosphere, great service, a wonderful menu and great staff! You are looked after from the moment you walk in! It is really appreciated. Libby and the team really look after you!!

Lovely staff and atmosphere but the food was terrible. The sandwich was inedible with hard dried up chicken and the bread was obviously straight out of the fridge- cold!! A good place for just a drink

We weren't able to eat, but the atmosphere and decorations as well as the terrace are pretty.

I have been waiting 45 minutes for a 5 minute snack!!!! If at home I could do this quickly in 90 seconds. What they just put on my table is a knife and fork to make up for it. Inside I'm laughing at the composed level of service. The good reviews baffle me!

Absolutely shocking. Seen several roasts come out to tables and they looked great, however when ours arrived it was shocking. Everything had been cooked from frozen absolutely shocking and to top it off I had a hair at least 10inches long wrapped in potato’s. No sides or desserts and it was only 2:30pm. Would never ever return for food complete disgrace to charge £20+ for that kind of food.

Nice roast, meat OK great veg selection and Yorkshire. Lovely accessible pub and dog friendly. They even have a selection of dog beds you can take to your table! Uke jam every 2nd and 4th Sunday eve is a great laugh.

I had the pork chop, and it was amazing. The only downside was the beer was flat. Other than that the pub was lovely.

Great location by the river, no food being served on the day I visited.

Fantastic food and excellent service. Didn't matter that the weather was appalling outside, the atmosphere in the pub more than made up for that.

Nice pub with outdoor seating front and back. Very dog friendly, which is why we like coming here. Staff always welcoming.

A lovely place for a drink in the sunshine

Traditional battered fish is decent. Not the best but honestly one of the top I’ve had. The batter is crispy and not too greasy, and the haddock is not dried out and seemed fresh. The fish is super big, although this also means at some point it eventually becomes soggy. Pork chop is surprisingly good. Tender and flavorful with rosemary. Also super grateful that I was able to have a beautiful salad instead of the chips in fish and chips. Service is efficient despite the full evening. And dog friendly!!

Lovely pub just across from the River Wey. Good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

A group of us, 26 in all had lunch here. The service was good and the food tasty. It's not cordon bleu, it is pub food and there's nothing wrong with that!!

Nice pub in Guildford. Visited on a Saturday night in May and there was a decent band playing covers. Good selection of beers and lots of outdoor seating - would recommend.

Took our family of 2 adults and 2 children visiting from New Zealand to the Britannia for lunch yesterday and it was as great as always. Libby and her team did so much to make it a lovely experience. Service was prompt and friendly, children were welcomed and well looked after, the food was all fantastic and the Shepherd Neame beer as good as ever. Would highly recommend for nice atmosphere, great good value menu and pleasant, helpful staff.

Lovely pub just off the canal. Very dog friendly, food very reasonably priced and delicious. Stopped off here for some lunch after having a walk down the canal with the dogs.

What a breath of fresh air this pub was. Relaxed and friendly, superb staff and a really good Sunday roast. Fresh Veg would be nicer (I’m sure it was frozen) and a bit more of it would be my only feedback. But there was plenty of meat, it was well cooked, extra gravy lovely Yorkshire. Crab pate was delish. We were all very pleased. But charming service made it even better. Thank you.

Shepherd Neame pub. Their beer which is good. Food decent if not amazing. Service OK. Bit rowdy on a Friday night, but during the week great for nachos.

The staff here managed to fit 13 of us in at a last minute request, this evening. Throughout our stay, they were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and generous portions - all at a reasonable price. A great atmosphere. Thank you.

Came for a quiet drink on Friday night with my cousin, I was at the bar and the bouncer came over from the bar and told me I needed to leave as I was too tall to be in the pub. The bartender then told me it was banter when I didn’t respond to this comment. Not acceptable to comment on customers appearances and take the time to walk over to me from the door and make me feel uncomfortable for absolutely no reason. It was strange behaviour towards a woman won’t be coming back.

Embarrassingly expensive food for how quickly it was served to us: cold. When we mentioned that the potatoes were absolutely stone cold we were given the same dish again 30 seconds later (microwaved?) But still stone cold! Took the dish back and the perfectly polite staff refunded it, but I don't think we'll be back.

1. They got our order wrong. 2. They have one cider, and it is not a good one. 3. The chips were cold. 4. The burger was under-seasoned. 5. The burger bun was vile. 6. The salt and pepper squid arrived with some off-menu, undescribed and unwanted, disgusting sauce. 7. Squid was overcooked and rubbery. 8. And this is just a personal preference, but no red bull, which is my favourite mixer. 9. Very over priced for food that is almost as bad as a Wetherspoons'. 10. Staff however were polite and courteous, but I will not be coming here again.

I want to give 5 stars - the food is great (those loaded fries, hot damn), drinks are fine, staff are lovely, absolute babes all round BUT I can't get over the fact that you charge the same for a pint of shandy as you do for a pint of beer, I am (and will probably always continue to be) horrified.

Beautiful place, lovely atmosphere and decor. Incredibly dog friendly. Bartender gave us a bowl of water and jar of cookies. Everyone was so friendly A huge selection of different size beds which our dog loved so much it was hard to take her home. By the need of the night everyone knew her name. We had a shared nachos which were as good as nachos could be. Fish and steak looked amazing on other tables.

Big fan of the Brit as a drinking pub. Fantastic location and a nice building. The food is fine for what you pay.

We had to book an evening for 25 people with food, at very short notice. Libby the manager was exceptional in being able to accommodate us all with absolutely no fuss or bother. Food was pre-ordered and was ready on time. The bar staff were friendly, professional and were super flexible towards the end of the evening. All in all a great experience and I would recommend to anyone. Chicken wings were extraordinarily substantial and crunchy! Thanks to all involved for helping us out at minimal notice to make it a great evening.

Has our Christmas meal here for 22 of us, could not be any more disappointed than we were, food was awful, some still frozen, don’t think the chef was capable of cooking for more than 2 people at a time, such a shame as was really looking forward to somewhere for us to have our regular Christmas meals as we have to work all of Christmas, will not return here ever

Worst Sunday roast I have ever seen in a restaurant. We visited at about 230. We were told there was only roast pork left for Sunday roast. Or nut roast. So we ordered two roast pork and one nut roast. The person that took our order said that the kitchen was very busy and it might be 30 minutes. We said that we didn’t have that long, but 30 minutes will give us enough time to eat and travel to my sons swimming gala. About 30 minutes later two roast pork turned up. To be frank they were disgusting. They were far from being described as a roast dinner and we’re not even on the menu when I checked.  It felt like the kitchen was making a quick buck from some spare pieces of cheap pork and calling it a roast dinner. They were thoroughly overcooked and the pork looks like some rashes of bacon or something. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt and the rest of it was just like mush.  My mam ate hers as we were hungry and had driven from Birmingham that afternoon. I sent mine back to the kitchen as it was an edible and my server wasn’t sure what to do and pointed me to the person that ordered my meal in the first place. She came back from the kitchen with some lettuce and pork for my mum, and I don’t really understand why we will not serve this instead of the rubbish we were served. We did ask for some more vegetable for the roast but never got it despite  asking for a few times. I didn’t have much choice, but to order some food as I’ve already paid and I wasn’t offered any money back and I needed to eat as it’s Sunday and the shops are shut. And I need to get my son the gala in Godalming.  I was served a piece of steak and some chips and some vegetables. There was no attempt to make it look any good but by then I was past caring. Perhaps the icing on the cake was when I ordered some water from the bar and the bar maid spilt the water all over me. I left very angry and really surprised that I wasn’t offered any money back. Or something towards a repeat visit (ha ha) There was a Feedback card which I did, but they didn’t answer it or do anything about it. So I messaged their website and it went back to the lady that serve me originally and she said that she checked if I was okay and I replied back to her that I thought she might have refunded some of the meal. She didn’t get back to me.

As requested by the charming guy clearing our plates, my review of the Brit - great service, lovely burger but the rest of the menu was a bit poncy for my liking. Million miles away from what I remember the place being like back in the 90s but you have to move with the times I guess. P.s. don't go on a Saturday unless you book a table, if your name's not down you're not coming in

Great little pub by the canal in Guildford. Went to the monthly jazz jam, to listen to some amazing talented musicians who got up in turn and performed throughout the night. It ended with an all-comers jam session that was truely amazing. Wonderful free night of entertainment, costing just the drinks I bought. Others had food, while they listened.

Had a couple of drinks in here with a friend mid week one evening, dog friendly with a lively atmosphere. I kept getting overlooked at the bar on my first attempt. Parking was abit of a pain but that's Guilford for you. Nice bar all round though, I believe there's different entertainment throughout the week.

Staff frankly rude, overpriced drinks to try and compensate for the good location. Food was not the best. Quiet and hostile atmosphere. Don’t recommend

Sorry to say this place is not the same as it used to be. We won't be hurrying back

Great vibrant and welcoming pub

Entree the pub with my friend for a bday snack and first thing we were told by the lady is “I’m more then happy to bar you if any of you are underaged”. She questioned my friend “Budget” whilst they ordered at the bar. The menu failed to mention paprika added to the food and they never asked us about any allergens. Food was ok but too expensive for what it is. Could be so much better with a more positive attitude and if the staff acted like they wanted to be there.

Excellent service from the bar team with a nice pint of Guiness. Food came out promptly and was good - calamari for my friend and chicken and bacon toasted sandwich on brown bread. Good location by the River Wey, although its red brick exterior may not appear as welcoming as the White hart, the welcome inside is excellent. So, do pop in if walking past.

Had a lovely lunch today at The Britannia Delicious food, cozy environment, friendly staff and reasonably priced food. Had the plant burger which was nice and big plus it came with a decent portion of chips. Defo recommend

I had the risotto which was average.... the other dishes looked better though
