We have been coming to the Wheatsheaf for 9 years now.. that must say it all! Emily and Claire and all of the staff are so welcoming, friendly, professional and genuinely decent people. Service is second to none, food is varied, delicious traditional pub food of high quality and great portions. Breakfast is delicious and always cooked to your liking. The rooms are lovely, everything is to a clean standard. The place super dog friendly, which is great for us with our labradors, so not a place I would recommend for people who don’t like dogs or indeed have allergies..Great choice of real ales, kept to a high standard. There are amazing walks on the doorstep in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and other villages are easily accessible by car or by the little white bus.For us it’s always been home from home and will continue to be that way, hopefully for many more years to come. Keep up the hard work, it’s a fabulous gem of a place!

The Wheatsheaf is a lovely, friendly 'gastro' styled pub in a stunning part of the Yorkshire Dales. We elected to sit outside as the pub was experiencing a busier than expected lunchtime with good grace and good humour! The beer was top notch - an excellent pint. Food-wise, the sandwiches with side salad were good. The Steak and Ale pie was pleasant enough but effectively just a very liquid beef stew with a slice of, very nice mind you, short crust pastry. It seemed pretty clear that the 'pie' filling and pastry had only just been introduced!A lovely pub nevertheless!

Went for a meal here on our last night in the dales. The staff were lovely and very friendly. The food, not so great. We were very excited to come here as all the reviews seemed really good. My partner ordered the pulled pork burger, I ordered the chicken burger. My chicken burger was supposed to be a grilled breast of chicken, however what I got was a pan fried chicken breast which was so dry I couldn’t eat it. The pulled pork burger didn’t even have a burger it was just a pulled pork sandwich. I know menus are limited at the moment with RONA and everywhere is stretched to the limit but we were quite disappointed with this food. The place looks so lovely. Will have to give it another try but first impressions for us wasn’t so good.

Tables were well separated, some with screens and it felt safe and relaxed. We were staying at the delightful Stow House near Aysgarth Falls and Sarah our wonderful host had booked us a table at the Wheatsheaf that night so we ended up going for dinner too. We have eaten here before the last time we were in Yorkshire. Tried to book a table for Saturday but they were full, unlucky for us but clearly a sign they must be doing something right. Early on a Wednesday evening we stopped off for a meal and they were already busy (as they also have guest rooms) so we were asked if we would mind sitting in the conservatory, where seven tables were laid out. Whilst it lacked a bit of atmosphere compared with the main restaurant, it was spotless, we were early and it soon started to fill. I had the gammon steak, two eggs, with boiled potatoes which were offered as an option instead of chips, and my wife had the salmon fillet. We’ve just come back from a weekend here. Me and my husband have been with my sister and her partner for the last 5 years and we love it. The family who run it are super efficient, very friendly and great cooks. The rooms were lovely and gorgeous and warm after a cold day out in the rain and wind. The breakfast and evening meals were top quality. We will be back next year - thank you The Wheatsheaf

Great pub to stop off at and have a relaxing drink after a good walk, A proper traditional yorkshire pub with a slight modern twist, fast welcoming service with a good pint pulled. We didn't eat but we'll certainly be popping back to try it out, food looked amazing and all we heard where people saying how lovely it was. Extremly efficient staff clearing tables quickly with limited fuss ready to seat the next hungry bellies. great visit thankyou

We were on a circular walk from Askrigg and stopped off at the Wheatsheaf for lunch. Another warm friendly greeting was received and we ordered drinks and sat down prior to lunch. The landlady runs the pub with her sister who that day was day off but i was amazed how much work she was able to get through she served the customers drinks took the meal orders and even served it as well then she cleared the tables afterwards then back behind the bar to repeat the process. It really is a great and has the James Herriott connection as he stayed there on his honeymoon night. It is a traditional pub with nice rooms and the locals are very friendly. It is a warm friendly pub run by very nice people serving good food and at speed. I will recommend it to my friends fore a visit and we are looking booking in to stay in the future.

Well what can one say but what an absolute pleasure. We were given a loverly room as the one we had booked was over the bar, they advised that they had had a party booked in at last minute so if we wanted we could stay in another room behind the main building which would be quieter. So accepted the offer. We where put in a self catering apartment and it was lovely. The staff where all friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. What a gem.

average food. Soup was nice with plenty of flavour. Roast beef lunch was average and vegetables overcooked, other party had burger and chips which was slightly dry and not very tasty. Reasonable prices for food and drink and staff were friendly. Nice open fire in the bar area.

In October, we visited The Wheatsheaf twice whilst on holiday in Bainbridge with family. We never go for a meal anywhere else. We have never been disappointed at The Wheatsheaf. We always enjoy great meals and great service. Same goes for whenever we stay at the Inn ... never disappointed.
