The Sun Cafe in Windsor and Maidenhead

We go every Saturday for breakfast and a relaxing read of the paper. The staff remember our order and are very friendly. The HK food is delicious and it’s a real opportunity to try something new.

Good Quality Cafe with a mix of English dishes and Hong Kong cuisine. I had the all day breakfast which was good but having seen the HK food I will be back for some of that. Great staff, vg coffee, reasonably priced

Visited today , The lady in charge was so rude that coffee was terrible, asked for refund and was told NO. That's fine, won't visit again and will tell friends and family not to awell. I'm a local resident, shame really as this cafe used to be quite nice, prices are also ridiculous.

I will not be returning to this cafe and as a local resident will share my views with other locals. Myself and a friend ordered a cup of tea each for which we waited approximately 10 minutes and had to remind the staff of our order. My £3.40 granola bar was tasty and brought to our table in timely fashion. My friend was not so lucky and waited for very underwhelming £7 scrambled egg on toast (please see photo). We did ask for a replacement and expressed our dissatisfaction with the presentation and general state of the food. The lady who served us simply said ‘this is what you ordered’ & ‘no, I’m not giving you a refund, this is what you ordered’. Very disappointing experience.

We mainly come & try the typical food from Hong Kong. Prices were reasonable & food was very tasty as well as friendly staff.

Awful place. V slow service and only person in. Freezing cold…. Tables full of crumbs. Wouldn’t recommend or come again.

Inedible part defrosted food, poor coffee, the opposite of a recommendation for this establishment. Just No.

Good service hot chocolate best had cake really good made fresh highly recommend if you want a chocolate fix tryed savoury and soups other times really nice

I recently had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours in here catching up with a girlfriend. The service and the food were lovely, but what made this a memorable visit was leaving my teeth aligners on a tray wrapped in a paper napkin. I didn't realise what I'd dome until I git home by which time the cafe had closed for the day. I ran back over to find Yvonne and her team at the back of the cafe getting into their cars to go home. I explained my situation, and the 3 of them didn't miss a beat before methodically diving into the black bin bags that had already been taken out ready for the refuse collection. After quite some delving around the retainers were found and Yvonne and her team graciously tidied up and headed on home. There's not many places where an unknown customer would receive that level of service and support so I'd like to say a public thank you, and recommend that everyone pop in for a coffee. Many, many thanks ladies.

Service was fast and friendly - the lemon polenta cake caught my eye and did not disappoint. In fact, I will revisit Sun Cafe again tomorrow morning!

Amazing selection of food from breakfast, sandwiches and some lovely Quiches and salads. Service is always good in this family run cafe, I live a few minutes from here and pop in regularly with friends, business colleagues, family or just solo with my dog. Occasionally you have to wait for a table but not long, a great place to visit.

Visited the sun cafe today with my wife, The kindness generosity and hospitality given to me and my wife was first class, Ordered the Poached eggs bacon avocado with salmon thrown in for good measure Quick and fast food service from Yvonne & Blanche. Food was excellent too. This has got to be one of the best cafes in and around Ascot Sunningdale Windsor area. Would strongly recommend a visit to this place if you are in the area. So lucky to have this cafe on our doorstep. Wonderful fresh food, amazing cakes and extremely welcoming owners. Would highly recommend - gluten free options and dog friendly too! It’s our go to place and they never disappoint.

We visited on Saturday late morning. A very friendly welcome from the staff, great service and I was amazed at the gluten free options available. No pre-packed biscuits that you normally see - instead a wide range of home made items; they even had gluten free sausage rolls and quiche available as well as some delicious looking sweet things! Lovely coffees and hot chocolate too, would highly recommend.

Having worked in the Ascot area for over 10 years, I have recently noticed the gradual disappearance of outlets that sell freshly made sandwiches and baguettes. Budgens in Ascot used to be my go-to, but since selling out to Sainsburys, all they offer now is mass produced, pre-packaged stuff. Happily the Sun Cafe still does things the old fashioned way, and the baguettes are lovely and crisp, yet soft inside (something you will never get from a pre-made offering). I have only visited here twice thus far, but even their other stuff looks rather appetising, so no doubt I will be back to sample more!

I thoroughly enjoy relaxing here with a coffee, snack and newspaper. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. I always like to support the Independents as it's such a tough business out there so hope you will give this place a try.

Drove past and saw it looked nice. Fantastic cheese burger on specials board. Packed Italian job wrap!! All very delicious!!

Nice place for a lunch while watching the people on high street. Plenty of variety from Bento boxes to pasties. We like the carrot or walnut cake for a treat.

Popped in for breakfast before work yesterday. Ordered two toasted croissants and a cup of coffee which in itself came to £10 (so I was already in a bad mood). Despite it being pretty quiet in there I sat for 25 minutes waiting. Eventually had to leave to get to work on time so asked if I could get the croissants to go instead. Discovered they'd somehow forgotten my order. I couldn't afford to hang around any longer and I had to leave. £10 down the drain and an empty stomach all morning.

What a great little, local cafe. They offer full or half English breakfast amongst other things; enjoyed the half this morning. Good coffee too. Plenty of seating. Will definitely return.

I have frequented The Sun Cafe over the years throughout various ownerships and it’s been consistent as to service and quality. I recently visited with a friend for lunch and very much enjoyed the food – an excellent Halloumi baguette and a Rocky Road made in house. It did seem to get very busy between 12 and 1pm and then quietened down substantially after than that. Just one thing to watch for – if you intend to spend under £10, take cash – as I believe a spend of under £10 won’t be accepted via card payment – which feels a bit incongruous with other local establishments.

This really is a gem of a place. Really lovely and friendly staff. The choice of food is incredible. You have to try the sausage baguette !! It’s clean and great for people watching and great to have such a good local and independent cafe in our village. Highly recommended.

This is a great friendly cafe with homemade food and tea/coffee at very good prices. It's not the biggest but there is outside eating court yard which is nice on a warm summer day.

My husband and I had breakfast everyday while staying in Sunninghill. The cafe is bright and spotlessly clean. Lovely breakfast freshly cooked excellent quality food. Very friendly staff great service. We didn't have lunch there, however the salads looked really yummy.

Grilled halloumi baguette was amazing. Would also recommend their eggs royale. Service seems much improved from the last time I was here. Excellent value for money!

Popped in for a cuppa and cake, the staff were friendly, good pot of tea, fairly priced and good seletion of cakes.

This is my 3rd visit in the last few weeks since discovering this little gem.

Ater walking round the area for about an hour the 6 of us were ready for somthing to eat,we came across The Sun Cafe...what a gem, we all had the best sandwiches ever,and the cakes just the best. great staff to.

I popped in for lunch and had a tasteless shepherds pie that was served to me cold so I sent it back and it then arrived so hot that it burnt my mouth. Staff unfriendly not a smile from any of them - really gone down hill since it has been taken over!

Very friendly and accommodating staff and good value for money, especially the cakes and pastries. We were a little chilly while eating, perhaps because the whole of the frontage appears to be open-able, presumably to extend onto the pavement in the summer. Would nonetheless go back for the food, although parking in Sunninghill isn't easy.

Had lunch here again today and once again very nice. Clean, (including nice toilets!!) . Food very nice and limited more to Sandwiches, Panini's, Light lunches and Pastries. Friendly with a nice ambiance!

Light lunch of chicken and bacon mayo sandwich which had a good filling let down only by the use of basic sliced white bread although wholemeal, baguette or a wrap version was available. Good coffee and very tasty generous slice of victoria sponge cake. Quick friendly service and reasonable value.

Dropped in here for a quick lunch on the run, greeted by friendly staff ordered a coffee and a baguette, service was swift food was fresh. It was very busy but I managed to get a seat, cakes looked really good had I had enough time but something to return for.

Went to buy a takeaway almond croissant the croissant I purchased was quite expensive at £2.80 compared to londdis across the road at 80 p and they are cooked fresh it’s just they had run out of them so went into there when went back to work to eat it it was dry and it tasted more like a normal croissant ! Wouldn’t recommend it here over priced and a takeaway !

Think that this place has lost its sparkle now that it has changed ownership.

A friend & I went in for a little lunch and it was lovely. Staff were great, service was quick and friendly. Food was delicious I had quiche and salad. My friend had a wrap and said very nice. Very good value for money. We would both recommend and go again.

Had lunch one day and popped back for coffee and cake the next day. Service with a smile was lacking on the 2nd visit, plus my husband had a baguette on the 2nd visit which wasn't as good as the previous day.

Stopped by for breakfast as visited 2 years ago . Enjoyed my vegetarian breakfast and brilliant black Americans coffee. Didn't get bloomer brown bread but brown whole meal but nevertheless highly recommend

3 of us were driving through, looking for a light Lunch in the area and the Sun Cafe looked worth a try. It was just perfect for a light Lunch, a good selection of freshly made salads and you could add Quiche as well or jacket potatoes, panini etc. Lots of tempting cakes and pastries. Coffee was good too. The staff were very efficient and friendly. The whole place is light and airy and very clean. Very good value for money Thoroughly recommend and will return next time we are in area. So good to find somewhere independent.

I have been to The Sun Café several times recently, and every time I go there or take away, I fully enjoy the quality of the food and it's freshness, they offer a wide range of food to choose from and good quality coffee, I loved most their croissants, as it is fresh and very tasty.The staff are very friendly and helpful. I used to go to The Sun few years ago maybe 6-7 years ago, I was not impressed, but now as I started going there again, I found it a better place ! I wonder if there was a change in management?I now consider The Sun Café as my favourite place locally.

Had a bit of a face lift since our last visit and we found the artwork a bit 'off the wall'. Great place for coffee and light lunches. They do breakfast too although we only had toast and coffee. Nicely presented and really good coffee.

Visiting family in Sunninghill and popped out for a bite to eat with the kids. This place had a lovely atmosphere, child friendly with pleasant staff and the coffee and cakes were gorgeous! It was also beautifully clean which I hold in high regard these days! I look forward to returning!

My wife and I visited for lunch late Dec, after I'd popped in for a coffee a few days before. Lunch was nice, the coronation chicken baguette good. My wife had home made fritartatta and cauliflower couscous, and devoured the lot, very quickly! The coffee is good. Most if not all the food is made in store and looks great. We were also treated to complimentary mini home made mince pies which were incredible. Great service, and nice to chill with papers during quiet times. Will return!

I visited the cafe with 2 friends for lunch. We were all impressed with the variety in particular the salad choices. Very good quality and reasonably priced.

Tripadvisor jewel! Genuine English atmosphere in a light and airy café. A full English breakfast, perfectly cooked and presented from an attentive staff. This is where the locals go for breakfast and morning coffee. Parking round the corner. Just minutes from De Vere Sunningdale Park.

I was greeted with a very warm welcome. The Sun Cafe was busy as it was lunch time, staff friendly and welcoming also attentive and helpful, nothing was to much trouble . Lunch was delicious, service excellent. Next time I'm in the area I will certainly visit the The Sun Cafe.

We visited the cafe on a weekend before the races at ascot . I had the full breakfast which was about £8 and was a good size and tasty . My wife had a more healthier option but no complaints at all from either of us and would visit again . There was many cakes and pastries on show and would have taken in afternoon tea if we had more time

I frequent the sun cafe for a read and a coffee. I have always found the staff to be efficient and friendly. I am more than pleased with my visits there.

We live and work locally and I've have been a number of times for lunch or take-away sandwiches over the last 5 years. As a child of the seventies I remember when food was mostly this poor and unimaginative but fortunately the world has moved on. The last toasted sandwich went in the bin and the "premium" sausage roll contained so much salt it tasted of little else.Regret I'll vote with my feet/wallet as there are so many other places trying harder.

Nice cafe only issues is the prices are a bit high and seating very close to eachother not very nice when the cafe busy. But it's still nice to go to.

This place has really changed since our last visit. Great service, friendly staff and super food have all made the latest visit so much better. maybe a change of owner?

The Sun used to be our regular. Then a few years ago the service fit flakier and flakier. Inconsistent coffee, bad coffee, shut when you thought it'd be open and forgotten food orders. Today we thought we'd give it another chance because our now preferred option was closed for holiday and as well as fairly mediocre coffee we waited 25 mins to not get a savoury croissant. Assistant offered to pick from counter when we enquired (IE it wasn't on the way) and heat up but coffee was drunk and day moving on. We won't be back. Shame as we like to support local businesses.

I travel a lot for work, and a nice breakfast is always welcomed. The café was clean and tidy, the staff friendly and helpful. The condiments were on a table against the wall, as was a water dispenser.After going through my usual can I change the egg for something else (which was no bother) and being seated, I got the breakfast. Good food, well cooked and well presented. The condiments were brought to the table, and it seemed like nothing was too much bother.The food was excellent, and I will happily return for further visits.A little more expensive than some cafe's I have eaten in, but that is down to its geographic location.Well worth a visit.

We popped in for breakfast, as we were staying nearby. Family live in the area so seen this place before, but hadn't yet been in! It was immaculate, really spacious, and the counter was full of lovely looking nibbles. We opted for pastries, which were really good. Husband had a Teapigs tea which he really enjoyed. Owner (?) was friendly on entry, and we enjoyed our brief visit. Nice to see a slightly more modern place on a quite traditional high street!

Ten of us - children and adults - enjoyed a family lunch here today and what a wonderful find! Fantastic fresh food - great coffee - and an exceptionally warm welcome. Accommodated our food intolerances with aplomb and we all really enjoyed our meals. Thank you! Wish there were more cafes like this one.

Lovely environment and yummy food. The selection of baked goods was extensive. We had the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. We stayed so long that lunch was being served when we left. Quiches, toasties, panni's, salads. We all agreed to head back there for Lunch one day soon.

A lovely place in the high street to stop for a lunch or a slice of cake. My daughter & I had the roasted sweet potato salad which was tasty & different. Being picky now..... The apple cake was nice, a little dry around the edges. Staff were very helpful & friendly, happy. I would recommend a visit!

A lovely modern looking place to eat. I am a wheelchair user & a member of staff welcomed my daughter & i inside & assisted us without us asking. Happy & friendly. We had a table at the window which was really nice as it was a dry sunny day in February. Very clean & modern crockery. Quirky teapot! The sweet potato salad with coleslaw was scrummy. The apple cake was nice but a little dry around the edges, that's me being a little fussy. Definitely recommended.

My friend and I went here for a breakfast treat before our spa day - she's always talked about running her own coffee shop and the Sun Cafe is her idea of the perfect venue - coffee was fantastic - I like mine really hot and find that normally have to specify 'extra-hot', no issues here. Breakfast was delicious, although the sauce on the eggs benedict was just a tiny bit vinegary.I guess because we were early arrivals the coffee shop also hadn't quite warmed up yet plus it was a chilly day outside.All in all would definitely recommend and plan on returning.

After a piping hot black coffee in The Sun, you wonder why anyone would want a Luke warm cuppa in your Costa's or Starbucks. Do these chains even know what coffee tastes like ?? Staff friendly, and appreciated. Thank you.

We visited the sun cafe on a trip to ascot recently and it was lovely! We just had a drink and a sandwich, but it's a lovely quaint cafe on a nice high street, staff were very friendly and we will definitely pay them another visit on our next trip to ascot!

I know that waiting 5 minutes doesn't seem long but when you need a coffee it's a life time. Need to wear louder clothes next time or make more noise

This is such a lovely cafe in Ascot. I pop in on my lunch break sometimes. The cake counter looks divine when you initially walk in. They sell the best tea.. Teapig! I've only ever tried the ham & tomato croissant with a sweet potato salad which was extremely yummy. Lovely atmosphere & very tasteful decor.

Just returned from an absolutely astonishing spot of lunch at the Sun cafe. My wife and I had gone into the Treacle Cafe but after being ignored for three minutes or so and feeling unwelcome (we went in at some minutes to three and they close at four) we left. It was the best thing we did and we crossed the street into the Sun cafe. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming and the presentation of the food was fantastic. We had a toasted croissant, chicken and bacon sandwich followed by some cake. We both had two slices each with my wife having the carrot and ginger cake along with a gluten free polenta lemon cake. I had a homemade baked cheesecake and the carrot cake as well. All cakes were baked to perfection. Now, on to the coffee. I had a large flat white coffee and it was not overly bitter, smooth and silky with a full bodied aroma. It complemented the sand which and carrot cake so well I had to order another cup. BEST COFFEE OF MY LIFE. Try it, you will not be disappointed. Above all else, the owner and the team were very welcoming (stark contrast to the competition) and the sofa on the mezzanine level was comfortable and very homely. Worth every penny and would rate this place 11/10. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon of delights and coffee to die for.

After a ghastly experience at treacle we gave sun Cafe a shot. Boy I'm glad I did.The customers looked happy. That was a great sign. Their menu was varied but not overwhelming. Their cakes drew you in visually. It was all going so well until they ran out of baguettes!! Cue dramatic music. Ahh well. The owner/manager explained why and suggested alternatives. The woman who took our order seems nervous but I figured she was new.From then on the experience got better. We went upstairs where they had the most beautiful and tasteful decor. I can only describe it as visiting an old friend's lovely new house.I started with a carrot cake, followed by a cheese and tomato croissant, then by a lemon polenta cake. They do not skimp on ingredients, actual lemon in the cake, not just the cheap stuff you get in a bottle. I washed the above down deliberately slowly with a hot chocolate orange. It just made sense. I loved it even more when I discovered a chocolate square was hidden at the bottom! Throughout this we had delightful conversations with the manager and the young lady waitress who could not be any older than 17 but my gosh she was on the ball and attentive. Not once did she mention Justin bieber (lol). I kicked off my shoes and got comfortable on the sofa talking to my husband and enjoying the moment. We both realised this is just what we'd needed. A break from our regular life, just to be together and enjoy life whilst drinking as he put it the best coffee he has ever had in his life.He wants to go back tomorrow. I'm happy with the memories. Wouldn't want to jinx it.

A great Jewel on a small high street, fantastic fresh homemade food, and the cakes, wow!!!!' The owners are always there hands on with the lovely staff, greeting with a smile. Best place in the area.

It's hard to find a nice cafe round this neck of the woods. First visit and it's great to have a cafe serving fresh food, gluten free and choice. My soya chai latte was nice and fluffy! Will be visiting again soon.

Lovely refurbishment and very friendly staff. Had a wonderful breakfast served hot on first visit, real bacon and bloomer bread, perfect. Unfortunately our second visit was such a disappointment. The eggs were cold, bacon thin and dry, no bloomer but cardboard type sliced brown bread. Sausage okay, baked beans had a weird taste. Extra toast ordered at the start with marmalade, thinking it was bloomer bread but we got brown sliced with a 2 small sachets of tasteless jam. Coffees were nice and the staff were again very friendly so that's the best I can say. I do hope it was a blip and I will try breakfast once more. Had coffee and the lovely Apple and date slice on previous visits and they have been delicious.

Given that it is the only Cafe in Sunninghill, the Sun Cafe is at best average. Following a recent refurb it does look better, but the food is still overpriced and the menu very limited. Fego's in Ascot would be my personal choice.

Great little local cafe, good food, good service. Just been redecorated and now very nice inside. Nice in the summer with the doors open.

Love this place. A proper coffee, made fresh to order. Not a quick rush job like Starbies or Costa-lot. All homemade food. I can't speak highly enough about this cafe. You even get use of Free parking in Sunninghill.

We found The Sun Cafe after looking online for a place to have breakfast before we went to a wedding nearby. It had good reviews so we gave it a go. We managed to park in a car park for free just off the high street (free for 2 hours). First impressions very good as the place looked as though it had recently been decorated. Nice and bright. We sat upstairs and ordered two full english breakfasts, fresh orange juice and Coffee. The breakfasts were very nice and of good quality. Came to £25ish for everything. Not somewhere I could afford to go to often to have breakfast but it was relaxing and enjoyable. Just what we needed. The staff were very friendly and the place had a good relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely return.
