The Spice in Basingstoke and Deane

We visited The Spice on 12/9/24 and were a large group. The service was superb. Very welcoming and friendly throughout. We were made to feel valued. The food was exceptional. Everyone one of our group said their dishes were great. Can't fault the place. Would happily return again.

Great selection of food, which was all delicious. Starters very fresh. We've been left a bit disappointed recently with other Indian restaurants, but the Spice is now firmly on our list as our go-to in future

The Spice has always been my favourite Indisn in town. Not been for quite some time, but decided to have a takeaway delivered after a particularly tiring day. We were not disappointed. Really tasty fresh food, and delivered on time. Delicious!

On google shows open I drove gor 1 hr, to find it closed on sunday at 3pm. Update your hours please

Briyani is just yellow rice , never buy again. Tandoori is few days old and they added lemon to hide taste.

Booked online for a table at 13:45 with my elderly friend who had never experienced Indian food before and was very excited. Restaurant let me book a table online at 13:45 and had confirmation on my phone. I got there and showed my confirmation and they told me the restaurant was closed, and asked me if I meant to book at 19:00 instead?? Why would I book for 19:00 and turn up at 13:45? No real apology was offered and we had to leave. My friend was disappointed and we will definitely not return.

Food very good, service good, shame we were the only customers early evening.

Spent £50 for two. Food arrived late and cold. Tried to call the restaurant 5 times before they answered the phone. £4.95 for 2 small samosas with none of the usual sauces accompanying them very expensive. Meat was tough and everything bland and tasteless. Couldn't taste any curry spices. Naan bread was hard and tasted stale. Not worth the money or wait.

Very authentic food and lovely atmosphere. Went for dinner and will 100% be returning. Highly reccomend the Chicken Tikka Morrisa

Went in to order a large take out for my partners mums birthday questioned the overcharged bill which then was all of a sudden £35 less no complimentary drink whilst we waited we were charges for both every other Indian within has always given a waiting drink and after spending £111 not even a free poppadom in the bag Work on your customer service you just lost a massive order weekly !!!!

Excellent food but for a takeaway highly priced and not affordable at nearly £20 a person. Prices are rediculous for a takeaway. Used them for many years will be going elsewhere from now on

Best curry house in Basingstoke. Always a great meal

This was a most disgusting Indian I've had in basingstoke. Popodums were all crashed. Onion bargees were broken and cold. Sauce was nice flavour. Garlic nan was cold. Chicken curry had about 5 pieces of chicken in it. The best bit about my dinner was the coconut rice which was lovely. Rest went in bin. Went back to the spice saying same as above no response. Third time stuff missing and now won't answer the phone very poor, won't be back

Ordered for collection for 7 people on Christmas Eve. 3 of us had Tikka Masala and the chicken was dry and over cooked, one of my friends pieces was completely burnt. The food wasn’t hot at all and it was all bland. All 7 of us rated this a 4/10 at a push. I also had stomach upset all night!!! Not what you want for Christmas morning. Avoid this place. There are much better alternatives in Basingstoke!

The food was lovely as always but table booked at 7, not advised we would need to be out quickly. From the moment we came in we were rushed, so much so that I couldn’t finish my meal as the people were hovering around us and asked 3 times if we finished. It was a table for 2, my back was to the staff so I didn’t realise quite how bad it was. It made my friend feel so uncomfortable. In the end I said I had finished when I clearly hadn’t. There were plenty of spare tables so unsure why they felt the need to watch over us. They even opened the door before we left the table. We asked to take the food home, they didn’t take it out the back they brought the pots to us to do ourselves with only 1 bag to carry it inI. am now sat in my car to continue my catch up with my friend. Am going to go against the grain on this one. I love a good Tandoori mixed grill. Sadly, it didn't happen here. Nothing wrong with the service, except my meal was on the table before I'd got halfway through a popadom! Way too quick to have been freshly cooked. Everything on the plate was bone dry. I had been here before and it was quite decent. Not this time! Wont be going back again, and certainly wouldn't recommend it. As someone else had previously wrote, there's plenty of Indian restaurants in Basingstoke. If this one gets genuinely good reviews, then the others must surely be truly amazing!

One of the best Indians in town. As there are so many great Indians in Basingstoke that is really saying something. Well staffed Fast service. The staff were polite, friendly, very attentive. The food was absolutely spot on. Superb food. Atmosphere is great. The Indian is perfect size too. It is small and intimate, and from my experience doesn't get too loud in there. As I said it has to be up there as one of the best Indians in town

Tonight was the best meal we, as a family, have ever had here! We have been eating here, regularly, for pretty much the entire 33 years it’s been open and tonight was the tastiest and most flavoursome ever! Again the service was great, the food fantastic and the price reasonable! What more can you ask for? Thank you to the staff for tonight’s meal. You really, truly outdid yourselves!

Visited the Spice with my family, one of whom has a dairy intolerance. When booking a table on the telephone I had asked about catering for a a dairy intolerance and was told that this would not be an issue and to discuss when we arrived. To be clear the meal we all had was very good, but upon asking the manager for guidance on what would be suitable for someone avoiding dairy, he was relatively unhelpful naming one dish. This didn’t fill us with confidence however upon further enquiring when ordering we were able to determine further options. As I said the meal itself was very good, and we all enjoyed it and even my kids ate everything! I’m marking the restaurant down though for their service with regards to our enquiry. We’ve been to other Indian restaurants where their guidance was much better and reassuring that there were many options to choose from. The management at The Spice would not go wrong to take a leaf out of other restaurants’ books and be more attentive to their customer’s’ needs.

Best Indian in Basingstoke. Have been coming here for many many years and ensure I eat several meals here when back in town. Same consistently good food and service.

I think my previous 3 star review was a little unfair, their food is very good and a pleasant bunch of lads.

We went in to order a takeaway, ordered 2 korma with rice and a special curry with rice. Spent close to £50 on the food. Got home and 2 rice were missing, called up and the restaurant said that we could come and collect the missing food items. Went there to collect and they’ve claimed we never paid for the 2 rices and insisted payment despite us already paying in the first place. They were extremely rude to us and refused to take responsibility for their mistakes. A customer had been in previously when we were waiting, collected his food, his card didn’t work so asked if he could come back after he’d eaten all of the food to pay, and he was allowed to do that! Walked out with 2 bags of food for free! And we paid for our food and was told to pay for missing items! Absolutely ridiculous and will not be going there again. Have been going there for as long as it’s been open.

Our local for Indian takeaway. Never had a bad meal there.

Took my family here for my wifes birthday yesterday. Had a lovely meal and the service was perfect. Nice cosy restaurant that was very clean and staff were very smart and polite. Would definitely recommend you give it a try.

Love this place! Friendly, professional, quality food, value for money and great portion size. Took my parents out for dinner and as usual the food was great. The spicing on the Jalfrazi was excellent. Rice was beautifully fluffy. Naan bread sweet and crisp. Chicken Tikka Masala lovely. Onion Bhaji’s were tonight doughy but ok! Overall a lovely night, enjoyed by all and will def return on our next trip up country! Thank you for a nice evening we all enjoyed!

Was ok, good value and nothing to complain about. Staff could do with being a little cheerier.

Went for a curry with my wife as have been her before and the food is usually very good. As normal the food did not disappoint but my wife felt so uncomfortable with the waiters leering at her chest. So was that uncomfortable that she sat with a scarf around her to cover her cleavage. Not a cheap meal by any means as they seem to have increased prices quite significantly

It was Sunday and after a hard days’s work it was decided that a take away would be in order, so I downloaded the menu and at 5-15pm we ordered our meal on line. An e-mail was received saying that they didn’t open until 5-30 but our order would be processed as soon as possible, so we were more than pleasantly surprised when the meal turned up on the doorstep at 5-35! And what a lovely meal it was! I nearly always have a lamb biryani when I have an Indian meal and in many other restaurants I have found the lamb to be tough and not very plentiful. The Biriani from the Spice was a triumph. So well done and thank you for making our evening

Wow! Wow! Wow! We havent been here for a while. Its absolutely fantastic! The staff are so attentive. You feel like nothing is too much trouble. No rush between poppadoms to the next courses. The food is amazing. So tasty. Bravo team. Its a gem of a restaurant 👏👏

Went for a pre-Christmas curry with a friend. We eat out at least once and week and try lots of different places, but I can honestly say I was underwhelmed with The Spice. It was overpriced for a very average meal! I have had much better and paid less elsewhere. So a very average experience. The thing I disliked the most was that we were seated near a drafty window and I was uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. So we did not hang around and ate our meal and promptly left. I have eaten in the Spice on previous occasions and can honestly say that it is not as good as it used to be.

Travelled 20 Miles to sample this restaurant, but finished up Disappointed ! Some of the food was Cold, and the onions were Stringy and not cooked through properly! If Reviews state that this is The Best In Basingstoke! The Mind Boggles !!

We always come here when visiting M & D, it’s like a family thing we do. Where we are has OK curry houses so to have a really excellent Indian meal is a treat! We ALWAYS have a great meal and a wonderful time. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service professional and courteous, the food is flavoursome, plentiful and expertly spiced IMHO! Yes it’s expensive but competitive, particularly in this climate although to be honest worth every penny as we had a fun-filled, laugh out loud family catch up and meal that tasted brilliant with no washing up. Thank you to the staff on tonight as you were excellent as always, we had a truly awesome evening out. We will be back soon!

Waited 45 minutes for food. Couldn't hear my self think so order the wrong food. The owner was over familiar and said heat level couldn't be changed when two day they had. He carried on talk I had to ask him to leave us alone so we could eat. He jump out of his seat when I said I wasn't going to pay the service charges and going to leave a bad review. I'm a south Asian woman he would not of treat me this way if I was a Caucasian man. I wanted to be left in to eat not hear his excuse. Then he told me not to come back, I wasn't intending too. Not disability friendly either. Just a very bad experience from the staff. This a greatly self righteous man who wanted £3.02 for bad service.

We normally go to a different Indian but thought we would try this one. It was very quiet on the day we went and the food was 'just ok', nothing special. It was also very expensive for what you got. What upsets me the most is that despite it being quiet and us spending almost £100 for 3 people, we never received a free complimentary drink at the end of our meal but there was a table of 2 there at the same time and they got these complimentary drinks? How does that make sense? We found it very rude as the other restaurants we have been too always give these drinks out at the end. I really wish I had not tipped now as this action left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be visiting again or recommending to anyone.

Very nice food here. Found it as the usual place Hook Tandoori was closed on bank holiday. Good portion sizes, fresh chicken in the curry’s and starter - doesn’t have that yucky pre-boiled texture. Lamb was very tender, like it is slow cooked or pressure cooked. Only criticism is that the naan bread needs to be thinner.

Great quality Indian restaurant.

We have been ordering food from the spice for years. It was always amazing. Unfortunately the last 4 take away's were a mistake. We always order the same meals , we had them 20+ times in the past but they don't taste the same any more. Flavour is not as good. Pilau rise I had 2 days ago was so plain , it had no taste at all...chicken extremely dry. Another time the box was half full! Back in July my food came burned. Also twice in a row we received meet samosas instead of vegetable.Chicken madras was not spicy at all in last order. Order in December arrived after 1hr 40mins , needless to say it was cold! We used to love your food The spice but 4 time in a row is too much...very disappointing...I wonder if you have changed your chef...

I was lucky enough to win the Father's Day competition for a meal for 2. The food was lovely and service was great. Will definitely use again.

It was second visit to the Spice Restaurant and once again I was not disappointed. The food and the service was superb. I had the lamb tikka and pilau rice, while my mother tried the spiced special curry, and my spouse had the lamb Malaya. The spiced special curry was a mixture of meats (chicken, lamb, kebab). I was able to sample both of their dishes, and they mine, we all agree that all of the dishes were delicious. For drinks, we choose the cobra beer which complemented the food perfectly. The server was good. I'm sorry I was unable to get his name but he treated us well both times. I was a bit troublesome with my spice request but he was able to satisfy my request of Hot! Hot! hot!. The restaurant is cosy, the seats are a bit too close to each other but beyond that my experience at this restaurant has been remarkable. I will definitely recommend.

We always have a takeaway whenever we visit my parents. It’s is my daughter’s favourite place to visit too. The food is flavourful and rightly spiced (IMHO), portions are generous, cost is about right, service always professional and polite. To be fair we, as a family, have never had a bad experience in over 20 years of visiting and eating here. Has to be experienced if ever this way. Thank you The Spice for another lovely curry night!

I have ordered many times before and normally their curry’s are very nice but today the completely let themselves down, the food was bland with no spice and vegetables were nearly whole. I phoned to raise my concerns but they didn’t care and were rude. Real shame.

I asked for a mango lassi and the waiter said they “don’t do that here”, yet they serve crap lager to their noisy soccer chav clientele, so not much of an Indian restaurant. However the food is pretty good so I give 3 stars, to be fair to them.

Not great, booked a table for New year's eve at 6.30pm, the restaurant had no booking for us in their book. Managed to get a table for 4 but was pretty much hassled to finish ASAP with the staff lottering over the table. I even had to take my beer home !

Fantastic curry house. We have used numerous times and never been disappointed. Definitely the best we've experienced in Basingstoke. Amazing food,lovely service, one of the best Indians around

We ordered food for around 30 people because we had a wedding party and food delivered in good time also food was really delicious. We would order again if we will have anything in future.

Meal was delivered after 2 hours of waiting - when was promised within 45 mins. Complained to the manager and he offered to provide the same meal for free on another occasion. Made best of the goodwill gesture and was very pleased. They made a mistake and rectified it - highly commendable

Our first visit to the Spice and we were not disappointed. The food, ambience and service were excellent. Only one very minor point, we could have used a longer break between starter and main course. We will certainly be going there again.
