The Southsea Village in Portsmouth

Nice place , why can you not do a decent burger ? The chin dribbler is unlikely to live up to its name , todays burgers need to have tomatoes , gherkins, jalapenos, hot sauce , mushrooms onions , not a burger with one piece of lettuce and a value stodgy yellow sauce from a bottle . Just look at 5 guys and try to do better for £7.30 a pint and £12.95 for a dull burger .

You can not ask for anything more.. SIMPLY one of the BEST PUBS...

It’s been many years since I last visited these premises and was expecting the same rather insipid place but was nicely surprised. It’s nicely laid out and decorated with a good feel to it. There was a good choice of beers and an excellent menu. The staff were very friendly. I hope to go back soon.

Popped in for a bite to eat whilst visiting family in nearby Emsworth. Really welcoming atmosphere, staff were ever so friendly. Food was delicious. Will certainly be back when we revisit 👍🏻

The food was great the chef really knows what he's doing. Looks like a young dude tasty food. Chester was welcoming when I came in. Demonstrated his knowledge of Beer and what I'd prefer. Ordered the Classic and uber fries. And was offered to pair it with a neck oil. Was really good. Keep it up. I'll be back.

We had been visiting Portsmouth for a few days and popped in on a Sunday evening for food and drinks. We loved the place, it is very dog friendly and the food was delicious (pizza and a buttermilk chicken burger) the staff were so friendly and helpful We wish we lived nearer as we would definitely be regulars

The service staff were super friendly and helpful (though not ott). The food - though well cooked - was not great quality, but fine for the money. It was very quiet.

Lovely food. Chips in particular were really delicious! Knocked off a star as the toilets unfortunately really let the place down (very dirty and no soap in one of them/had to ask for soap, which should be replenished regularly!). Chester our server was very friendly. Would be back again for sure. But please address the cleanliness of the toilets!

Always historically loved this place however. The food was over-priced/ looked like they were cutting corners to save costs way too much. I ordered a buttermilk baby burger: bun was overcooked/ burnt, the chicken was fine but the bacon was burnt to a cinder and the chips looked like toe nail clippings (like that been grated to squeeze the most chips out of a spud). My partner ordered a kidding around pizza: the cheese was only in the middle of pizza with a ring of tomato sauce around the outside before the crust. It looked as if we’d been given a scrap meal, not ideal for the price bracket it’s supposed to be in. We didn’t receive any napkins or check back on our food, the waiter didn’t seem interested or was preoccupied (maybe overworked?) Very sad to leave such a bad review but it was a disappointing experience from our previous visits! Hopefully it’s a one off and I’ll this review in the future. But I hope the manager/ Kitchen lead reads this. Always been historically good to eat here so we’ll be back. I just hope it was a one off.

Visited on 04/05 (10PM). Nice atmosphere inside. Also an outstanding range of beers on offer. On this occasion, food was not sampled. Will definitely return.

We had the private room booked. The room was lovely with darts. Not enough chairs but that didnt bother us. When ordering food, we were told it was 45mins wait. Ended up waiting over an hour. Chips were nice, burger too. Spicy chicken pizza had hardly any chicken on it and was a bit undercooked in the middle. Sorry to say, but wouldn't go there for pizza again unfortunately.

Very bad service. The waitress made us pay before mentioning the long wait. We then waited 50 minutes for a simple burger. They are extremely slow and rude to the customers. I don’t recommend this place

Popped in today after spending the day in a very windy Portsmouth. Very friendly staff and in my daughters own words the best burger she's ever had. Pizzas were very good too. Only gave 4 for the atmosphere as it was early lunch service on a Tuesday but the staff and management were very chatty. Great choice of music being played as well

Nice place. Stopped in for a pint when visiting the area. Nice pub, great pint of session lager. Love a pub that has comfy seats, lots of games to keep people of all ages entertained.

Came here on a bank holiday Saturday for food. They had no pizza, no chicken wings, no cauliflower wings. Basically half their menu. Ordered a gin and lemonade and got given waaayyy too much lemonade, gin glass almost overflowing. Service was poor, 10 mins at the bar and it wasn't even busy, just no staff.

Great food for our mains and friendly service. Particularly impressed with the vegan pizzas. Let down by the sundaes for dessert which were disappointing and not as described.

I had heard good things about The Southsea Village, and wanted to see for myself, so brought my mum, and our dog in for an early dinner. As soon as we approached the bar, the team were very welcoming, we struck up a conversation and had some laughs. We ordered two soft drinks, a pizza, a burger, and a side of calamari. Our dog was offered a bowl of water and some treats. After taking a seat, our food came out promptly, served to us by Joe. He made sure we were happy, and asked us if we wanted any more drinks or any sauces. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the pizza was surprisingly thick, with a generous amount of toppings - which added to the flavour without being overpowering. The calamari was very flavourful, with a beautiful texture. After a team member checked back on how the food was, we were brought two more drinks. The table was promptly cleaned and cleared. Overall, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and accommodating to our every need, without being overbearing. The pub was very clean, and as a music student, I approve of the music selection. We will most definitely be coming again, with more people next time!

Booked a table for 12 people for a friend’s birthday meal at 7.30pm. We arrived on time and there was no service. A friend went to the bar and asked about ordering food 20 minutes later and we were told they had closed the kitchen because they ran out of food… The man behind the bar was very rude and basically said it wasn’t his problem. I then asked a waitress who was really apologetic and lovely, but couldn’t give a reason why I wasn’t contacted to inform me wouldn’t be able to eat. My contact details were on the booking. She did offer us a free drink, however this was just after we had bought a round of drinks from the rude man at the bar. Luckily for us, Croxtons over the road had a table for 12 for within the hour and the food and service was amazing! I have never turned up to a restaurant where they have ran out of food. So poorly run and looking at the past reviews, the poor service seems to be a common issue. Do not bother going.

Great bar in Portsmouth, good entertainment. Sports channel. Board games, darts and shuffle board available. Great staff.

I asked, but you're not able to have a bar tab. No problem. I asked for menus "end of the bar mate" said the bar man. Asked for some butter in the burger. "No butter in the kitchen mate". Asked the bar man if Cajun sauce has mustard in it. Caused an argument, the bar man asked the chef. Scan this to find out I was told, as the bar man walked towards me swearing. Do you know what, take your menu, we will go elsewhere. Beautiful human interaction. No wonder the place was empty. PS. I spent just shy £30 over the road in Algarve's. People friendly. Food excellent and I will go back. Would we go back to The Southsea Village. It would take an invite from the owner

There is plenty of space for sitting or standing as required. Good staff covered a busy Saturday evening.

Love this bar in Southsea. The food is fantastic and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. Has a real fire, making it a good stop on a cold day. Can't wait to go back!

Staff member behind the bar was incredibly rude , unwelcoming and rude this is a shame it’s usually good in here 4:10pm 14 December, food was good as per usual

One of the worst restaurant experiences in years. 1) Extremely long wait for food and drink. Staff were incredibly understaffed and overworked with very long delays with orders. 2) Served meat in a vegetarian starter to a vegan guest. The starter was remade, but found that the dough used wasn't cooked either. 3) Extremely poor hygiene where tables were not clean, toilets were in an abhorrent state and no clear cutlery. In this visit, we had to ask staff multiple times for clear cutlery and didn't receive any until the very end of the meal. 4) Very noisy environment with no attempt by staff or security to address. 5) Food quality is extremely poor for the price. Previously, Southsea village was consistently good but now it's massively dropped in quality after a menu change. These issues with raised with the venue and no attempt was made by management to address both during and after the meal. If you're planning a meal out, you've have a nicer time at Wetherspoons across the road.

We are here on a short break and went in just for a drink but the menu looked nice so we decided to eat there. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend

Some staff are more interested in serving friends even when people are waiting, allowing qué jumping for mates. The leadership obviously don't care about walk-ins just their staffs mates. Bit of a shame as at least 2 of the guys where doing whatever is possible to try and make up for it.

Great vegan pizza and good beer. Initial welcome was a bit luke warm, but I'm glad to persevered.

The mens toilets are filthy. Hundreds of flies, spit, snot, blood over walls. Also haven't had lock on the single mens cubicle in months and months. Food and atmosphere there is great. But seeing the state of the toilets does make you question the hygiene of the whole outfit. NOTE TO OWNER: Use the 20pound you charge for an hour of darts to buy a lock for the mens toilets.

Slow service. Dreadful food. Avoid. Ordered a chicken burger and two types of loaded fries. Took over 40 mins to arrive on a quiet Thursday evening (maybe 12 people in the whole place). Chicken burger was dry. One lot of fries with pulled pork was so sweet it was almost inedible. Other lot had “burger bits” in it - grey, dry and tasted awful.

Decent pub, good range of beers

Absolutely shameful since the change over in staff. Poor lad working the bar and waiting tables was doing his best while the manager sat with other staff members while watching the size of the queue increase! We were also given a dirty pot of cutlery that had god-knows-whatever liquid in the bottom of it as well. Food was okay, however, it seemed they didn’t even know items they had as soon as it was sent over, the manager explained that a number of our items had to be exchanged. Poor service

Hi we went here from a break from Victorious and ordered food not to be told had an hour and a half wait. We asked 3 times in order to chase our meal up as we had to be back at Victorious at 8pm before entry was closed. In the end we decided to ask for a refund. The manager agreed to the refund and gave us a free drink each and our meal arrived promptly. Albeit eaten hastily we made it back dead on 8pm. Thankyou to the staff at the Southsea Village as I'm sure under normal circumstances things would have run smoothly. But thank you for making a wrong a right. We will come back at a quieter time as the food was lovely.

In all fairness the floor staff was diligent enough to inform us that there was a 45m wait on the food, it took slightly less than that but I have seldomly seen a less urgency concerned kitchen (and tbh not that many dockets on the pass). The burger I ordered nearly nailed it except for the fact that it was dry, and by dry I mean Sahara in the dry season when the sun is high, I guess they never heard of sauce in a burger or they are aiming for us to help it down with more drinks. My wife's salad was actually quite good and the fries were spot on, yet the dryness of the thing makes me uncomfortable to give it more than 3* overall (2* for the burguer)

A great place to visit travelled for the weekend with friends and visited twice

Foods not cheap, chips are cooked on mass and stored on cold shelf. Food stands waiting to be served while staff play on phone. Drinks are over expensive. Coffee arrived cold. People leaving food uneaten. No food after 2pm. Places grubby.

A favourite of ours whenever we are in the area. Great selection of drinks including cocktails (try the delicious gin-based English Garden) and the excellent Gamma Ray APA. But what really makes it special is the super friendly service and laid back atmosphere. To top it off the dog is always made to feel most welcome with a water bowl and treats. Many thanks.

Love this place ,nice for a day out

The service here was incredibly poor. I was stood at at the bar waiting to be served and was told they only serve from a line away from the bar, instead of the traditional along the bar,so nearly 10 minutes waisted there. To then see them serve someone that had taken my exact same place. Then when I finally got served the beer I wanted had ran out , I asked if they could change it, I was told no because they didn't have time. Will not go again and would definitely not recommend.

Went to celebrate a friends birthday and by 9pm they stopped serving drinks in glasses and started using plastic cups. Questioned the manager why I couldn't have my drink in a glass and he blatantly lied to my face, stating it is the law that because he has entertainment then he is not allowed to use proper glasses for drinks. Even when I challenged him on this, he said if youndont like my rules you know where the door is. Customer service at its worse, being lied to and told basically you either get a drink in a plastic cup or go else where. To make things even worse the air conditioning units in the place were all off making the environment like a sweat box.

Went for the Thai festival advertise on Facebook we got there and it wasn't on

It was OK. Way too many dogs in the bar, which detracted from the atmosphere, especially when they all started barking at the same time! It's a shame because it had a lot to recommend it. But for me personally (even as a dog lover), I'll not be back.

I don't usually leave reviews but on Friday 16th June I was impressed with Nadia's customer service. Her speed of service, professionalism and great sense of humour was hard to forget. I attended the Karoke evening with a friend and was made to feel very welcome. She kept on smiling even when it was really busy. Nadia definitely contributed to mine and my friends very enjoyable evening. I would like to say thank you Nadia and to all your staff who made it a night to remember. Keep doing what you are doing!! We both look forward to coming back soon. All the best! Kris

I felt like a ‘village’ when the new chef gave me half a lettuce not chopped and told me it was a salad.. all my life I’ve been cutting my lettuce I feel like a right idiot! Every days a school day :) x

The service at Southsea Village was very slow. Waited half an hour for starters to arrive and then another half an hour for mains. Two of the dishes we ordered were wrong and one had to be sent back which took another 15-20 minutes to replace. The toilet door in the men's hasn't got a lock on it, and the bathroom is full of flies. When I went to get a drink from the bar the lady said "you after something?" which I found hostile and impolite.

As villages go, this one is lacking some basic facilities. I could not find a bakery a fish monger or a post office. The latter could be connected to the 2015 sell off of the Royal Mail. Never the less, I had a lovely time. Just get your sourdough, salmon and stamp needs sorted before your visit to avoid disappointment.

Seriously amazing, probably one of the best pizzas I've had, and whatever is in house dip is so good. Also nice mocktails always nice and difficult to go somewhere and not just have to drink lemonade.

We hosted our wedding reception here! It was fantastic all through the planning process, Chris was so receptive on emails and meeting us, the service really was above and beyond with the prosecco and (the REALLY tasty) pizza buffet really well managed, we were able to drop things off the day before and it was all set up ready for us when we arrived it all went so smoothly thank you Southsea Village for a fabulous time! The darts and the shuffleboard went down a treat with the guests!

Nothing was too much trouble with arranging our party, the manager was on hand the entire night personally making sure everything ran smoothly, everything was all set up for us - it was just an all round fantastic experience, the games, the great food and the atmosphere just made it!

It was my husbands birthday and I booked a table and the team went above and beyond with getting him a little present and some cupcakes! It was perfect! It's been a favourite place of ours to go to for a while but this has officially made it our favourite place to go out and eat/chill! The team were great as always and really looked after us. Thank you so much! We'll be back soon! :)

What a great find! Two of us were looking for another pizza restaurant in Southsea and spotted this place. The other pizza place looked a bit too up market for us - we just wanted a comfortable place the eat and chat. The Southsea Village was perfect for our needs. A large spacious room, with comfortable chairs. Nicely presented. The pizza kitchen is in the same room, so it's easy to see the pizza being made. The chef was very friendly and promised a good pizza. There was an offer on - 2 pizzas and 2 drinks for £20, which sounded good. We could choose any two pizzas from the menu. The drinks choices were more limited, but sufficient for us. We chose the classic pizza (pepperoni) and the bacon & brie pizza, plus a pint of Inches cider and a pint of Pravda. We each had half of each pizza, as in the photo. The whole meal was excellent value for money. The pizzas were particularly good. I would highly recommend. I am a bit fussy about pizza, so finding this place made me very happy.

Was looking for somewhere for lunch and instead of going to a chain near by decided to check out a local place, the Southsea village. Sadly, wish we had gone to the chain restaurant instead. The menu looks big but really it's nacho, wings, burger or pizza. There are a few more things but really not much. The crowd and vibe of the restaurant was just....weird. Young couples, families then groups of older men like you would expect in a local pub. We ordered two breakfast burgers that took an age to come! And even then the chips were a bit "meh" and the burger was too burgery. Despite having bacon, egg, sausage and hash brown the burger tasted only of the beef. It was okay, but I'm certain there is better around.

Really lovely place to hang out with friends. The shuffleboard was fun and playing with the electric darts board. The only reason it's not a 5 star rating is because although the food was lovely, it took over an hour to actually come out..

Had a lovely lunch at Southsea Village. Nice space, very accommodating of the pram and my 6 month old and staff really helpful with my allergies. I'd been a number of times before but not with the baby or with dietary needs and they really did go above and beyond.

Not just any old pub, there is a Pizza Kitchen and great gaming area on the premises. Very welcoming feel about the place, lovely staff and food looks very nice even though we did not eat on this visit.

Good service. I had a lovely stone baked pizza, the burgers looked very nice. Also they are dog friendly, always a plus.

If you want a place that will serve everyone apart from the person who is in que then this is the place

Really lovely place with great food & drinks. The staff are friendly. It's a good place for a drink or food with just one friend or a few of you. Seating available outside in the warmer weather, great to sit & watch the world go by.
