Great place, staff are spot on, really friendly and helpful, food is decent, would recommended

Great pub with better staff!! Really welcoming pub with a great atmosphere, tasty food, plenty of TV's for the sport and excellent staff who really look after you. Wendy in particular is the life and soul of the pub and knows every local customer. Definitely recommend *****

Excellent full Irish breakfast and very good value. Parked in the adjacent car park but didn't realise I had to enter my car registration number on the keypad by the bar. On receiving a penalty notice in the post a few days later from a third party parking company, spoke to Michael at The Red Lion who kindly managed to get the fine cancelled once I'd proved I had eaten that day. Will definitely be going back for another breakfast soon.

The young bar staff were wonderful, chatty, friendly and engaging. The Red Lion is often dismissed but, with the young lad and lady serving, it would surely encourage others. Well-done you two!

We had a two-night stay last week . The rooms had been recently refurbished, and had plenty of plug/USB points. The bed was firm and comfortable and the bathroom, although quite small, had an excellent powerful shower. Overall we were happy with the standard of the room. In particular we would like to give a mention to Michael the pub manager. On arrival he made us feel very welcome , ensured that the car was properly registered for parking and explained and showed us around and gave us plenty of general helpful information. He is doing a good job there and deserves recognition, as do his staff.

Staff very friendly & accommodating, room was clean & well appointed, food was good & reasonably priced.

Only stayed one night and I would stay again

Only only spent one night here but we cannot fault this hotel. Plenty of parking. Nice big rooms. Everything was very clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. I am sure we will come again.

All staff were welcoming and friendly. Rooms were clean well maintained and furnished well. Breakfast was fabulous. Accommodation and food all priced very competitively. Highly recommended and will stay again in the future.

Went for a meal here with 5 friends. All the food came at the same time which was great as it did look quite busy. The table was a great size, 6 of us sat comfortably and the food was well proportioned and tasty, good value. We all enjoyed it there and we will return. Lastly, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. A credit to the establishment

Thought it was a great place to stay, booked only on the day and the price very reasonable. Staff lovely and very welcoming too, particularly the lady on the check-in desk on the evening of the 26th. No pub noise at all in the rooms, and all rooms equipped with smart TVs too. Bathrooms incredibly clean (the cleaning ladies were also lovely), and far better than I thought for the price. I didn’t stay for breakfast but can imagine it was lovely, smelled great! Couldn’t recommend more and will definitely be back for another stay. Parking also a non-issue and you’d be able to park your car for free all day on your day of checkout.

What was great... 1) The staff, all of them from bar keeping to housekeeping. 2) The food. The breakfasts were to die for and I have recommended you to several local friends, 3) The insulation, the room was blissfully quiet even though the bar was jumping. What can you improve..? Sorry I find that a hard question to answer. I just know want to book with you again if I am ever back in the area and need a hotel. Or breakfast...!!!

Great food and service with a car park which we didn't have to pay for as we were eating. Fish and chips and gammon from lunch menu plentiful and gammon melt in the mouth great value under £7 each and had no room for desserts. Good economy stop over top of cosham high street, perfect for the Queen Alexandra hospital, less than 10minute walk . Comfortable rooms, surprisingly quiet for location and decent pub food.

Came in for a drink alone after work and was welcomed by Josh. He was very friendly, informed me about the iPad for the parking in your car park and made me feel welcome for the duration of my visit. Good selection of drinks available and overall pleasant atmosphere. Thank you Josh.

I ordered a meat feast pizza which only had pulled pork and beef on it, where was my chicken and pepperoni?? Then ordered churros for dessert but sent it back as was stale. Serena was very helpful and got me some fresh ones so thankyou to her. All in all was very disappointed

Great little hotel and pub. Stayed only for one night but would use again when visiting Portsmouth. Rooms are small but good for quick stay. Clean and quite. The pub very popular to locals and after having dinner and breakfast we can understand. Great food, good prices and excellent service.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable with plenty of conveniently placed charging points. Really nice shower. Breakfast also good. We felt it was good value for money especially with breakfast included. When we arrived the bar was packed and we worried it would be noisy in the room but you really couldn’t hear a thing.

Everything was great! The room, the cleanliness, the food (breakfasts especially!) and the staff - who couldn't have been more helpful. No improvements need be suggested from our visit. We loved it there.

As a yank, I have nothing but great memories from the 5 different occasions I stayed at the Lion over the years. It will always be my choice whenever I venture back to Portsmouth. Back in the day, Margaret ran that place so smoothly and efficiently.(I hope she remembers me). Always had a great breakfast there (but us yanks have a different definition from you of what bacon is). I will be back someday, sooner the better!

We were in attendance for a fortieth Birthday party, we were most impressed with the pub, great venue. We found all staff very professional, especially Wendy, who served us several times, she was just so nice, and seemed so welcoming, anyway, we are looking forward to visiting again as the food looks lovely. Had a great meal cooked well, all staff very friendly and made us feel welcome, we were in with family for a Birthday Party Celebration. We were allowed to bring a cake and balloons in and to decorate the area, and after dinner they bought out the cake and sung happy birthday to us. Went for a bite with my sister, had a burger and a pizza... STUNNING! Huge portions, and were happy to accommodate a fussy eater! Quite quiet - we blame dry January - but Marcelle and Wendy were chatty and had a laugh with us all the same, fabulous atmosphere. Will definitely return for a few drinks some time!

When I walked into the pub I was greeted with a warm welcome from the barmaid. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing. I had burger & chips and the food was loverly. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I Will definitely be eating & coming here again.

I took my mum for lunch there - it is near the hospital. A week later i got a parking fine for parking in the hotel car park. I paid cash so i could not prove i was a customer so i had to pay £60 fine. I complete disgrace.

Possibley the worst the worst work outing for Christmas I've ever had. Had a chicken burger thing completely inedible. Looking around our group at un ate meals means it just wasn't me. Could not have a conversation due to blaring music. Great place to go If you drink lager Never again.
