It was on a weekend with a show on the common. Limited seating outside with no disabled access to inside. Large queue inside after order given, waiting for their orders very chaotic.

Located centrally within the Clarence Pier amusements building, The Coffee Cup is a handy little cafe for a snack when down on the sea front, or waiting for the Hovercraft to the Isle of Wight. A good range of drinks and snacks at fairly reasonable prices and locally owned too, so you're supporting a local business rather than a multinational company. The interior is decorated in an industrial style with leather seats and tables made out of scaffolding poles, faces north so it's usually quite cool as it doesn't get the direct sun. It's a great place to watch the world go by at this busy location.

How disappointing to be served by your supervisor, after I spent £16 on 4 coconut lattes, sat at a table outside, 3 occasions all served in a glass cup, as I was NOT taking the drink away! The 4th time she nerved my daughter, bringing the drinks in a take away cup 😳 when i asked for a glass cup. She said we serve outside in a take away cup. I explained the previous 3 weren’t. She went to get the glass cup, and as she walked away, she said ‘I didn’t realise is was such a big thing’ 😳 my daughter went to speak to her to explain how she had upset me with that comment, and was met with a very defensive response and said if we interpreted it that way… she didn’t mean it, in a patronising way saying she felt she dealt with it very politely and got your mum a cup! I paid for a coffe to sit down with, an extra 50p so surely, I should have received what I paid for and not the take away cup. I had injured myself early in the day on a ride. Hence why I chose to sit there for so long and purchase the coffees. The young man who served me previously was kind and polite so credit to him. BUT I’m afraid the supervisor needs some training on how to deal with customers. Such a shame her manager wasn’t present for us to share our dissatisfaction with. We come every year and I have NEVER been served a coffee in a take away cup. 🤷‍♀️ we ended up leaving the premises as we felt so uncomfortable and ended up having to use the take away cups!!

Nice place for a quick coffee to sit and relax with a nice view on the clearence, welcoming baristas.

The food was nice but nowhere near enough filling in the sandwiches, the filling is spread like the butter, very thin. They were quick to fill them with more when we complained ,but you shouldn't have to complain when the prices are quite high anyway

Staff very rude! Girl who made coffee was polite however female serving was clearly upset the coffee shop was busy and was rude when I asked for a straw!!!

terrible coffee I do not recommend to anyone We ordered an Americano with milk and a cappuccino. Americano was clear and tasted like water. The staff used very little coffee.

Awful experience at Coffee Cup at Clarence pier. I waited for quite a while in the queue and when I was next to be served was completely ignored. They started serving the customer behind me so I was standing at the front feeling very awkward. They were chatting away to the customer and eventually served me. I bought coffees and acouple of cakes to takeaway. As I walked out and already ate acouple of bites of my cake, I realised that it was covered with mould. I went back and once again, the staff behind the till ignored me until one person turned round and I requested a refund. He showed the other staff members and they laughed and I felt so embarrassed. I received a refund and a mumbled apology but I won't be visiting there again. Just awful.

Great service and reasonable price.

Our go to place when out walking along this part of the sea front. Always clean, friendly staff, good selection of food and drinks for a small cafe - most importantly, it's always lovely and warm inside when the weather is cold!

Went there for the first time and really enjoyed it. Coffee was was great, cakes delicious and they lady behind the till was so friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Walked in to completely empty place, so not like people were run off thier feet.. but we received no acknowledgement by the pony-tailed fed up-looking man beind counter. Asked to sit in and got given take-away cups, which was kinda bizzare. Said thanks for the coffees when handed to us... No reply, he just walked away. No interaction throughout the time we were there, no 'thanks' when we left, and we felt almost sorry for disturbing this man. Shame really as the coffees were really nice! But absolutely cold atmosphere, and so we won't be returning.

I’ve been there with my partner today and a man served us which was very rude. He’s serving was ridiculously sad and tragic. I am kindly just saying right now if you are not able to handle and serve the customers then please change your job and start to work in a factory. All in all ridiculous services and communication by that man but the coffee was very lovely! 25. 01.2024.

Cracking cuppa before we hit the slots

What wonderful staff! We only really popped in to avoid the rain this morning and the staff were so welcoming. They looked up allergy info for us cheerfully and thoroughly which we really appreciated. Coffee was great and the cakes were yummy too. We will definitely be back next time we’re down in Southsea.

No disabled access seemingly available. Steep steps to entrance which makes things difficult for people with mobility issues. Nice hot chocolate though.

We ducked in here during a downpour (great British summer weather) and we’re really pleased that we did. We were greeted with great warmth and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and polite. All three cakes sampled were delicious as were the drinks. A real gem.

Expensive but quite good food and tea. Bit of attitude from behind the counter, where twice, albeit briefly, there was one person when it needed two.

Absolutely lovely! I was working away in Portsmouth and was looking for somewhere to have breakfast before my long drive back up to Manchester. So glad I found this place! Lovely, warm, attentive service and the best goats cheese panini I’ve ever had! If only you weren’t 274 miles away 😂 Thankyou ❤️

Food very good, no toilets in building had to go to public toilets across the road. Great stop to go if it is raining.

During my visits to Portsmouth I always enjoy a walk or eSooter ride along the esplanade before stopping by Coffee Cup for a drink. The cafe has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. There is a wide selection of cakes to enjoy alongside the delicious coffee. A regular latte and the rocky road are my personal favourite go-to's. Will be looking forward to my next trip to Portsmouth and my next visit.

Good for coffee as you would expect

Small coffee shop next to the fair and Isle of Wight hovercraft that has space to sit inside with decent coffee and associated snack/small bite. Friendly staff. You have to pay for parking anywhere near though much like anywhere right on the beachfront in Southsea.

Given the constraints of its location (being within a dated building, still being adjoined to the arcade by locked doors, and not being the largest of spaces) this is actually a nice place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee (especially in the winter months). The coffee was well prepared and the cakes were tasty. I would happily revisit this cafe.

As a regular visitor to the pier it was to my surprise to have not yet visited this coffee shop! My partner and I where in a rush to get home but not without some caffeine to keep us awake, so sheepishly we walked in. To our dismay we saw them cashing up thinking we wouldn't be able to get one but after asking the friendly and lovely two female staff members, they encouragingly said that they could make us a drink! Crisis averted. A white americano cost £2.75 and its overall taste was definitely worth the money. So thankyou Coffee Cup and the lovely staff members for making our day and our evening home a wonderfully smooth, relaxing trip. You will be seeing us again !

Gem of a find, and a must visit in Southsea, I can’t understand all the negative comments , 30 years in retail, the displays were awesomely presented. The cakes 🍰 looked lovely, Hayley was very welcoming and very friendly, an assert too the company, the Coffee Cup was nearly full and had a great buzzing atmosphere. Thank you for a nice visit.

We've visited this coffee shop many times, it offers a nice selection of food and cakes, drinks. Has a nice seating area and we've always found the staff to be very friendly. It's very reasonable too. Good place to stop for a drink or bite if you're walking between GWQ and Southsea.

Very bad coffee they did too hot late still can't drink it after 10min...when asked to exchange they said I need to pay for a new one. I'm not recommended!

Quite often pop here for a hot chocolate when out walking. Not very good at clearing the tables and tidying up though.

We visit here few times a week on our walks. And the staff are very welcoming and friendly. And we got to know them over are visits. And they are always friendly and provide great service. They also have a good selection of hot and cold food, cakes and hot and cold drinks.

Amazing coffee place. Went on a weekend during winter so it was quiet. Reasonably priced, good tea, hot chocolate and coffee. There is parking along the promenade as well as opposite.

Open around Christmas :) adequate/nice coffee and baguettes friendly, helpful, reassuring staff The shop cannot help with the lacklustre mobile data available in the area, but the Joke intermittent Wifi that both appears to exist when you look, but then cannot be accessed/restarted by staff and wasn't working at all for the whole meal wasn't amusing. A solution is to just remove it, there's nothing wrong with that.

The reason why I have given this rating is because I went into your coffee shop last night at around 5.15 pm. There were two members of staff one doing tables and the other making drinks. I was the only person waiting to be served, I waited around five minutes and neither member of staff acknowledged me so I decided to walk out and buy a drink elsewhere

Small, friendly coffee shop with nice staff and a warm welcome every time I go in. Good coffee and a nice choice of cakes and savouries for lunch. I recommend the mushroom and meme that sourdough in particular: very comforting and rich.

Had a really good cappuccino there today and the staff are really nice and friendly.

My mum and I bought coffee and a cherry blondie at Clarence pier coffee cup. When we bit into the cake it tasted raw and not baked properly. We took it back in to the server who said it was supposed to taste that way. The manager was called and he was very rude so we went to leave as we decided it wasn't worth the hassle of a complaint. The manager then shouted across the shop after us, over the customers who were sitting in, that we shouldn't complain to him but to the cake manufacturer! Was it seriously worth embarrassing himself and being so rude to us for the price of a cake! Thank you for your response Stewart, I think you missed the point of my complaint which was how rudely we were treated! We were not offered any alternative and had taken a small bite each, not 'consumed half the cake'. We know what a blondie is and whether it is baked on your premises or not, you are selling it and therefore responsible for the product and any complaints or compliments. Agree with the customer or not, but don't yell at them across the shop after they are leaving anyway.

This is an interesting cafe / coffee place because it is slap bang between two amusement arcades and elevated about a meter off the ground. Inside is a rather small but quaint area with a small selection of food and cakes. This isn't on the level of a established coffee place like Costa or Starbucks but is good enough for what it is. If you are looking for a decent coffee, I recommend you go elsewhere. Service was actually pretty slow, as only one person was serving when I went in. However she was polite and friendly. Prices were roughly the same as any other kind of coffee place. If it is busy in here, you definitely won't get a seat, as seating is limited and space is at a minimum. You don't really get any views from inside and the windows you can look out of are facing bus stops and a public toilet. Overall a good place to stop at for a quick average coffee or tea and then carry on along the seafront.

Great coffee, with friendly service. The only place I've been since emerging from shielding that checked I'd used the NHS QR code on door. Wonderful array of cakes, pastries and savouries, but couldn't sample as was on my way to dentist. Young staff very attentive to necessary cleaning regime, for which they should be commended. Full range of vegan milks too (extra charge though).
