Went in before pompey v Burton only 1 person serving and most beer pumps not working, left to find a pub that had beer

Welcoming of away fans before football. Good atmosphere. They did run out of orange juice but better that than beer!

I used to use this pub regularly ahead of football matches at nearby Fratton Park. When I returned for the 2023-24 season, I was very disappointed. Setting aside the rather brutal and charmless refurbishment, I found a pub under new ownership that was seriously adrift: new, inexperienced staff struggled, while the new landlord - instead of leading from the front sat on the customers’ side of the bar. There was no cask ale and the place had completely lost its mojo. Unless it raises its game ASAP, it’ll all going to end in tears before the start of next season. I now go to another pub.

The Rutland still has the classic Cogswell exterior, but inside it's been renovated, polished and brightened so that the old pub atmosphere is gone and it's more like a café or a coffee shop. Plenty of lager choices for the new clientele, but fine ales in short supply.

Having been in here for years. Looks a lot more modern however I still preferred the old school, dark wood pub look. Nice staff and good beer.

First time here in 30 years ish and boy has it changed (and after this amount of time it had too 😁)was well impressed how modern it looked really modern serving great beers and the starf were fantastic 😀

It has had a recent refurbishment which makes it look much more appealing. The inside is still dated but it's a nice chilled atmosphere and the service is really friendly.

Omg what away to end the day of remembrance. At the Rutland arms the staff are amazing and the sunshine sisters rounding of the evening until 1915 so come down and join in the fun.

This used to be the go to pub after football. Great atmosphere and well kept real ales. However, the recent change in management has not had a positive effect. There were no real ales available at all last home match, apparently a problem with the gas. That sounds like shorthand for poor housekeeping. Instead of 5 or 6 bar staff there were only 2, so a long wait to be served. It's certainly not the pub it was.

Good traditional pub catering for Pompey fans on matchdays. Only let down by poor service at the bar. Hopefully was a one off, so will give it another go.

Great pub with nice atmosphere and lovely beer garden . Great experience on pompey match days to which is a meeting point before and after games . Good food available in the serving hatch at the rear of the pub . Great lager and ale selection reasonably priced so a must go to pub to soak up the atmosphere before games .

Came down to Portsmouth for the England vs Germany game and found this little place! What a great pub it is, great atmosphere and service, the bargirl was really attentive and never let out glasses run dry. They even gave everyone complimentary pizza which was a great touch! Lovely pub and best of all great beer!

Nice quiet pub but the landlord/lady make it well worth a visit. Even giving my brother-in-law a bottle of champagne to celebrate his wedding

any pub that offers proper mild gets my vote as a top boozer, also has a great beer garden

Has changed over the last year- going for a different type of customer and clientele- I wish the new owners luck with their venture. It has a good sized garden area and if you want a quiet place to drink then it is worth a visit

We usually use the Rutland Arms before the football. The staff are very friendly and helpful and very good at their jobs! The beers are of a good quality and the snack bar in the garden is good. Serving burgers and hot dogs which are very tasty and a good price.

Lively and friendly local pub. We visited shortly after football had finished, being local to the ground it had been a busy Saturday. Despite this the the staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating with advice on the various gins. Both the men’s and ladies loos were exceptionally clean for a pub, especially after a busy football afternoon. Looking to return for the quiz as we enjoyed the vibe so much.

Another prominent Southsea back street corner pub with an attractive frontage with a brewer's Tudor upper level and the trademark corner turret often seen in Pompey pubs and was the second one we had visited on the day designed by local Architect A E Cogswell. Internally it remains a two-room set up albeit now connected by a large opening. The right-hand side is more loungelike whereas the smaller left-hand side has a pool table and dart board and less seating. The bar has four handpumps with three lined up as you walk in but the fourth may be missed (as I did initially) as it is hidden behind one of the timber balustrades supporting the pot shelf. For our visit three ales were available in the form of Shepherd Neame Hop County, Wandworth Horizon and Fallen Angel Pompey Royal with one unclipped. The Pompey royal was OK from remembrances and this looks like a decent pub with a lot of community activities going on such as weekly meat raffles and quiz nights. I liked it here, but it didn’t quite give me the wow factor of some of Southsea’s other traditional pubs we visited on this crawl.

Visited here, as a Barnsley supporter, after game on Sat. Lovely pub- Mel and Alan are great hosts and doing brilliant job with the pub. Although good for sports, it also a good all-round pub and food was excellent and well-priced. Even the Pompey fans were friendly too ... lol !

They serve a delicious Sunday Roast and have a great selection of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Went for dinner tonight and enjoyed my pie & chips. Lovely family friendly pub too.

Perfect adult pub environment, proper pub, ales, chatter, no TV, friendly, smart décor, curtains and carpets, they take card payments and oh by the way, it's a proper pub.

This pub is a good pub which is well kept. There are no leather settees or comfy chairs just old school chairs tables and some comfy seats. The beers were nice.

I once bought a beer here, it tasted like the beer I expected. That's good.

This bar was recommended to us by a taxi-driver as this was our first-time in Portsmouth...we were going to the match at Fratton Park......this was a great choice as the Rutland has a friendly atmosphere and a good selection of beers. The staff were excellent...they even accepted Scottish bank-notes!!!! Well done to all!

Really great cider on tap local brewed and the ales are fantastic just a stones throw from the shrine that is Fratton Park which is just heaven paired with The Rutland ! 😀 enjoy and relax we certainly did !!

Love this place. Staff are amazing and can he very witty. Good selection of ale and cider that you would expect from a fullers run pub.

We went to a quiz here. Very welcoming and very clean. We even had food provided half time. A very enjoyable evening.

Visited prior to watching Pompey play Notts County, busy with Pompey fans serving with plastic glasses, but was a good atmosphere in there.
