Great food in the evening. Both food and drinks are very well priced. Good pub in a good location. Nice outdoors area and traditional inside. Not glammed up like vast majority of Doncaster pubs. Nostalgic return and great to see very little has changed. Visited twice and will return and reccomnend.

Service poor, no offer of condiments, dilute orange tasted like dishwater, sandwiches were average, chips were cooked in old oil, salad was a lettuce leaf and 1 slice of tomato. Will not be returning. The waitress blanked us when we said thank you

My first Thai restaurant for years and we decided to have the buffet for 2 so we could experience the flavours of original Thai. The price slightly on the high side for food provided in my humble opinion. Service was quick, courteous and very efficient always with a smile. Starters were good. Main course lovely- varied with duck, spicy mince etc along with their sticky rice which I'm not certain of lol- prefer unsticky! We went into the bar afterwards on what seemed like a Jam night- Thursday and it had a great ambience. The real ale choice was really good and reasonably priced for a change. Will re-visit on a Thurs to see if it is as good etc- nice one

I’ve visited here before in November 2022 and it was so good I’ve come back on my recent visit to Doncaster. 2 nights in a row and I’ve always been delighted with my choices, very attentive staff with excellent food recommendations. Well worth a visit if you like Thai food.

Dissapointed at the Thai. Service was good, portions small for the price. The so called Weeping Tiger barbecued beef did not taste like it had been barbecued, very small dish of sauce not enough for the meat, the Salmon was ok,Massamon Curry had nice flavour. The Sticky Rice had no flavour or seasoning what so ever. Over all we think it was expensive for what you got. Although you could not fault the service. Won't rush back.

My partner and I decided to go out for food last minute. We called up on the off chance that they had availability and got straight in. We were seated by a very friendly waiter called Matthew. The service was brilliant throughout. We ordered a set menu for two and it was delicious! Also a brilliant heated beer garden. Will definitely be back!!

The management here should be ashamed of the pressure they put their staff under. We booked two months ago for a group meal. Food excellent staff run ragged because management crammed a party of 20 in on top of everyone else and without more staff. We waited 90 minutes for food. No one cleared tables, asked for drinks or attended to us. We cleared our own plates and had to demand service with only a sorry from staff for whom we felt sorry. Get your act together.

The tempura was soggy The sauces tasted ok but were watery The presentation looked like it was catapulted from a take away dish First time after a recommendation but dissapointing

4 people, chosen the £30 per head set meal looked good, when it came looked a little short, enough in each dish for 2 and a half people, so 4 big blokes it didn't feed, I would probably say enough for 2 to 3 portions in each, 2 small bowls of rice and 1 plate of pad thai noodles, poor, totally disappointed

I have eaten at the Thai restaurant upstairs numerous times over the years but sadly it’s going down hill. Food quality is poor. Very understaffed with long waiting time from arrival to food on the table.. The food quality is not as good as it normally is..

A bit of a hidden gem as far as I'm concerned. Nice Pub, huge outdoor area, well appointed. Opted for a Massaman Beef Curry and very tasty too. I'll be back

Thai at the Salutation Pub Service was good except, everyone was addressed as 'darling' by the server who take the food orders. Did not have to wait long for our meals to arrive, around 10 minutes. The light tempura vegetables were served with mouthfuls of frying oil. The crispy belly pork were in shreds and the accompanying sauce, instead of the honey soy sauce as stated on the menu, was hoi sin sauce with a dab of chilli powder. Unfortunately, the main courses were not the usual authentic Thai. The chicken Pad Thai was extremely sweet otherwise, very bland. The beef massaman was similar to a slow cooker pulled beef. Again, it was very sweet and can hardly taste the ingredients that normally made up a massaman. Although the receipt mentioned Thai rice, it was plain long grain rice served. All in all, a very disappointing meal experience.

We travelled up to Doncaster from surrey to visit friends….it was our first time here. After being turned away in not a particularly friendly manner with our dog from another pub nearby we decided to try The Salutation ….Totally different attitude and so very welcoming! We found a table and a bowl of water for our dog was brought over without asking….the staff were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We stayed for a drinks and snacks which were perfect. Thanks for making us welcome ….next time we are in Doncaster we will be back!!

Never again. Went in for lunch which eventually arrived soggy wrap was OK but the chips were dire...cold and black on both plates. Heard the barstaff inform another table that they had run out of chips and needed to change the oil...wish they had told...

The second you walk in to the Sal you are made to feel welcome, the staff greet you with a smile and a bit of banter. Realistic price and a great pint aswell as quality food, makes The Sal stand out above the rest.

No social distance whatsoever. Tables were crammed together and strangers were sitting too close to each other. Staff were wearing masks though. Table felt sticky on arrival and pieces of carrot stuck to menu. There was 5 of us in the party and we opted for the £22 per head banquet. Starters were lovely. Main course came and we waited for the rest of food. When queried that normally this would have cost £100 and there didn’t seem to be much there for 5 people the manageress was quite rude and said that was all there was. One member of our party picked up a plate of noodles to dish some up on his plate only to be told they weren’t for us and although he had taken a forkful off it was whisked away to be served to another diner, so one less dish already. The waitress got a telling off in front of us for serving us this in the first place. One of the dishes was a whole small portion of fish in a batter which only one portion was served to us. The other dishes, chicken, beef and duck were in small dishes too. The manageress grudgingly offered us a dish of beef saying she wouldn’t do this this next time. We told her there won’t be a next time. If we had paid the full amount we would have been more annoyed. The food itself is really nice but the service and amount leaves a lot to be desired.

This is the place to be before going out out in Doncaster. They also do Thai food, which is very well spoken of. And if you are feeling clever they have a pub quiz on a tuesday night.

Had heard good reviews of this venue. Expected more. Took advantage of the "Eat out to help out" scheme and so the cost of the meal was reduced and thankfully so as wouldn't have been good value had we paid full price. The food was reasonable but have had far better. All starters are of The "deep fried" variety apart from soup option. This really is not authentic Thai as i have seen so many healthier options in other restaurants. The pad thai was tasty but the extra £4 charged for only 3 king prawns was extortionate (price compared to cost of vegetable pad thai). What shocked me and caused me to feel quite uncomfortable and unsafe was the lack of comformity to Covid safety regulations. The place was utter chaos. Groups of people werecbeing allowed to congregate at the bar meaning that those announcing their arrival to staff had no option but to join those at the bar. Social distancing was certainly not a focus. The face mask of one member of female staff (the manager perhaps?) Spent more time dangling from her chin than it did on her face. i witnesssed her without it whilst standing over customers with the payment card machine on several occasions. I also noticed that as one table was vacated this was not cleaned but food remnants removed simply by the waiter brushing the table using his bare hands to scoop up the debris before being occupied by other diners. The tables were too close together in some areas of the restaurant to conform to social distancing requirements. Clearly profit is the focus rather than staff/customer safety. I was glad to leave

First experience of Thai food and I will definitely be returning. Food was delicious and service and staff were both excellent.

Came here two days in a row just before the Covid shut down. Needless to say it was quiet. Excellent pub with a fantastic beer garden. Great choice of ales and wonderful staff. On second visit I tried the Thai restaurant upstairs. The menu looked great but unfortunately the food did not match this. Everything clearly made for the ‘English’ palate and nothing authentic about anything I tried. No chilli heat in anything. I will be back here but just for the beer.

The food was great but really let down by the service. Table wasn’t ready when we arrived. Didn’t get offered drinks and when we did eventually get seated (20mins late) the lady just plonked our menus on the table and walked off without any communication whatsoever. Could have been so much better and “being really busy” is not an excuse for poor manners and service.

Popped in on a very busy Saturday night to try the Thai restaurant which is above the bar area. This is the first time I have been in here, passed it lots of times. Had a drink in the bar first which was really nice and a great atmosphere. We then went upstairs to the Thai restaurant. Four of us orders the set menu, £20 per head, which consisted of mixed starters and then mains were rice, curries and pad Thai noodles. Plenty to eat and lovely flavours. We then finished with a nice coffee. We all had a drink with out meal and it came to £100, which I think is about right for what we got. They do a lunch menu which I will come back to try. You can also order normal pub fayre downstairs in the bar. Will definitely be back.

Popped in for lunch while working the area. Two of us just ordered some basic stuff, soup, chips etc. Waited over half an hour before chasing up and being told it was on it's way. After another 15 minutes, some turned up but part of the meal didn't. After another wait the rest came out, no apology or anything.Very disappointing as it was pretty quiet in the bar, so no idea what took so long. Had to rush down as much as we could and get back to work.

A very nice welcome and staff that were focussed on good customer service, the food was presented very nicely and tasted excellent. I shall definately return and can highly recommend this Thai restaurant as a place that caters for couples, small or large groups.

After previously not being a huge fan of Thai food, the salutation has managed to change my mind. I have dined here a few times now and have always had a lovely meal, staff are also very attentive.

My first visit and I’m very impressed. Attentive staff and very good service. A really good menu with lots of choice, generous portions and flavourful food. I had the Prawn Pad Thai main and it included the biggest, juiciest prawns I’ve ever had in a meal out! Very, very good.

Our forth vist this year (Twice in Jan) and twice in the last 4 days the food is out of this world, we compare it to the meals we have had in Thailand incredible. We would visit more often but living 70 miles away we visit when we are at Doncaster races. Highly Recommended

What a great place! I had my family birthday meal here, and couldn’t be happier. We were a group of nine, which usually means someone is left waiting - but not here. We received excellent, friendly service (the staff are lovely). The food was amazing. We did the set buffet, and all of the dishes were excellent. This is really tasty food. Can’t wait to go again!

We went to the Salutation on a spur of the moment, for a few drinks and food. We chose the Thai lunchtime menu and it didn't disappoint! The food was super tasty, decent portion size and great value for money (main meals average £7.00)The Sal staff were friendly and advised vegetarian alternatives to main meals, suggesting tofu, which I adore and don't get much opportunity to eat!All in all a lovely afternoon, in a pub with a relaxed and friendly vibe, with smashing food. Will deffinately do it all again!!

Personally I am not a fan of Thai food which is the reason why I’m only giving this place a 4 star rating but I still enjoyed my evening here, very attentive service and some of the dishes I had from our sharing platter were lovely! Would recommend to anybody who enjoys Thai food.

A fantastic surprise awaited us at The Salutation. Very swift service indeed, and the choice on the menu was appreciated. The restaurant was packed to the rafters. My companions enjoyed Pad Thai, and other half and I enjoyed a very delicious garlic chicken with steamed rice. We finished with a Thai coconut pancake with ice cream and a promise to come back. You won’t be disappointed.

It was our first time to Thai at the Sal and it wont be our last the food was amazing plenty of choice food served was hot,very tasty and plenty of it. the staff were very friendly guiding us through the menu and telling us what each dish is and if it was spicy or not. the kids really enjoyed it and trying different foods. Lovely place to eat we will definitely be going back soon

This is my second time to Thai at the Sal. It really is hard to beat if you are a lover of Thai food. The service is wonderful, staff are really friendly. The menu is plentiful and food is so tasty (and plentiful also). It's always a busy restaurant, and it's reputation preceeds it.

Me and my partner visited as a couple in April where we enjoyed the set meal for two, we had an excellent night and though how great value it was that we would have to come back.

In a one night stop in Doncaster there was abundant choice in restaurants but we fancied thai. Located on top of a nice local pub this thai and particularly the staff gives you a warm welcome and great food. Traditional dishes with a chef's signature are conveniently recommended by the staff so choices are easy. Normally I would highlight the main dish but I'm this case I would emphasise the deserts. not often did I have such delicious deserts; DO TRY THE COCONUT ICECREAM!

Visited The Thai Restaurant at the Sal on a busy saturday night and it was fabulous. The food was excellent , we had a banquet meal as none of us had been before and the food was lovely.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of my favourite pubs in Doncaster is The Salutation Pub,a pub I've been visiting for many years.

We called in for a quick meal and had a lovely Thai green curry with sticky rice. The food was great, the descriptions on the menu are detailed, and yes the sticky rice was very sticky but lovey. The portions were just right and the price reasonable. If you like Thai definitely worth a few visits

We chose to eat the banquet for two and it was wonderful. the selection of starters that arrived were very tasty and well cooked as were the main dishes. The portions were generous and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We would certainly eat there again.

Came across the pub by accident when visiting Doncaster on a Saturday. Lively friendly pub with a mixed clientele of all ages. Good choice of beers. Lots of TVs inside and out to watch sport. 25 min walk to Keepmoat stadium. We ate in the Thai restaurant on the floor above. Friendly staff and the best Thai food we have had in years. Would definitely go back again when we are next in Doncaster.

Our Hotel did not provide an evening meal food so we strolled down the road looking for somewhere to eat. The Pub looked good and it said that they did Thai food so we went in. We entered an excellent old fashioned Pub with a sign pointing us upstairs for the food. When we arrived upstairs we were amazed at what we found, nothing downstairs prepared us for the superb venue that we had found. We enjoyed the food and venue so much that we immediately booked a table for the next night! A proper Pub with good choice of ales and an excellent restaurant with superb food.

Absolutely love this restaurant..staff so friendly and the barman makes the best Bloody-Mary’s in Doncaster !! The Pearl wallpaper is amazing I need it in my life and the food is wonderful very authentic Thailand tasty..I’m addicted to this place. Xx

Busy, standing room alone next to the Xmas tree but we got to watch the Liverpool Arsenal game! Good selection of beers and all reasonably priced.

The pub itself is excellent with a great range of beers and spirits and a more grown up clientele however little known is the Thai restaurant directly above it owned by the same folk that own and run the Salutation. My wife and I went last night for meal and I have to say it was great food at a very reasonable price with friendly welcoming staff. Ton and the crew are great hosts and I'd advise anyone visiting or living in Doncaster that likes Thai food to pay this little gem a visit.

I ordered the table for two at this restaurant in advance. I just don't understand why no one told me you that there is a limited time for the supper there. The waiter took our order. We ordered a lot of food and bottle of vine, expecting to spend at least 2.5-3 hours there enjoying our starters, main courses and another bottle of vine. Again, no one said anything about limited time for the supper before ordering 2-nd bottle of vine. After 1.5 hours waiter requested us to move to the bar and suggested to finish our drinks there. We haven’t finished our main courses yet! We have just started eating main courses! I replied that we don't intend to move anywhere and would like to finish our meal here. After consulting with manager the waiter allowed us to finish our supper. BUT!!! Every 5 minutes she has been coming to ask if we finished eating or not! Eventually, we moved to the bar and finished our drinks there.

Called in without a reservation the owner went above and beyond to find us a table, the food and service 1st class, cocktails at the bar excellent, we where so impressed we returned next day

Booked a table for 4 for my birthday, with friends. This is a fantastic place above one of Doncaster’s greatest pubs!

Having heard good reports about the food it was with happy anticipation I arrived last night. It has been a while since I have eaten Thai food and it is one of my favourites. I absolutely love Tom Yum Gai so it was my first choice to be followed by Penang curry and a papaya salad. Unfortunately, they brought out the wrong soup and when we pointed it out they tried to say that it is made with coconut milk. Thinking that maybe I had made a mistake we looked at the menu and pointed out the one we ordered and were still told that it's normal to have coconut milk in it. After a couple of minutes they agreed to take it away and bring the correct one. I almost wish they hadn't, what was brought back was a bland broth totally lacking in flavour or chilli heat. I asked for some chillis, lime and fish sauce so I could try to salvage it myself. Instead, it was again taken away but this time the same bowls were returned just with some chopped chillis thrown in.

By far the best Pub and Thai restaurant in town. Lots of regular locals, visitors and returning customers. Great for relaxing corner booth type/areas with open fires. Lots bug screens for sport. Various activities from salsa dancing to quiz to live music. Superb Thai restaurant upstairs. Great friendly professional staff. Very good food, cocktaiks and other drinks at reasonable prices.

Came recommended via the Regent Hotel. The restaurant is on the first floor of the pub yet strangely there were no notices or menus telling you this..great food equally good staff..all round a real nice experience

We ate here Friday evening turning up without a reservation. We were found a table and opted for the set meal for 2. The food was excellent quality and plentiful, the draught lager was Morreti and again good quality.

I found the service to be very poor. There was 6 in the party and we had a set meal £22 each. We had to ask for our Coffee as they forget We had one of Everything as 1 chick wing etc. 2 plates of rice for 6 people. I didn’t create a right stink as it was a birthday gathering. Went home and ate a sandwich. Never again

How is this not ranked higher? Is Doncaster full of better restaurants? I don't think so. This is a really good Thai restaurant above a bit of a dive of a pub. The menu has a few well known dishes and a few oddities. First time I've see lamb shank in a Thai and it was good.

Ok, a Thai restaurant above an old pub. The pub is good. The restaurant is good. Doncaster is a graveyard for proper, non-chain restaurants, and it’s great to see this one thrive. Lots of people eating, a friendly atmosphere, tasty food, keep up the good work

Sunday 30 Sept and early table at 630pm for 4. Only one other couple in when we arrived but quite a few more when we left. Staff were lovely and the food likewise. Set meal at £20 a head selected, the starters arrived on a round dish with the expected sculpted carrot in the centre and some shredded salad around. Six types of appetiser, all very tasty and alongside three different dips. Not a scrap left. Four mains, the spiciest less than Madras and the rest simply lovely. These were accompanied by sticky rice and pad thai noodles and again, nothing left. Four adults filled to the gunnels and no fault was found. The NZ Savvy B was up to the mark and the draft Singha likewise. No hesitation in going ack (except we live 130 miles away!!!)

Been to the pub on a few occasions and love it as decent pint every time. It's a pub end of story and that is so refreshing in these days of Sky TV and electronic pumped beer.

It is nice pub with great atmosphere and delicious Thai food. The prices are ok. You can eat lunch for two and have 2 beers or coke for less than 20 pounds.

We had visited the salutation as a couple a few years ago ( it may have just opened) and it was well ... just alright !!!

Went last night for the first time and it was amazing. The food was gorgeous and the staff really nice and helpful.

Been here a few times now on business trips to the area and what a lovely place to find. The entire atmosphere says 'welcome'. Just outside the city centre - which is probably a good thing!

After having holidays in Thailand and other South East Asia for the last 16 years, I always found it difficult to find a decent quality Thai restaurant in South Yorkshire apart from Sheffield. Now we have one in Doncaster and it is excellent. The same owners had the Thai restaurant on Copley Road which was also good. Authentic Thai Cuisine, friendly staff and good quality all round. Cannot recommend the Salutation more.

Decided to try here with my group of friends, on arrival you enter via the pub downstairs, the pub has been there a lot of years but massively needs some money investing in it, it looks dull, worn and outdated. However the saving grace was the service and presentation of the drinks ordered.

Been a dozen times or so, never been let down. Food is superb and service is fast and friendly. The prices of the Thai menu are very reasonable too. The bar prices aren’t the cheapest for Doncaster is the only downside for me. The choice of drinks though is excellent, being a gin drinker - there is a large and varied selection. Would recommend to anyone for a night out.

Beautiful. We had tempura prawns, crackers & Chicken satay to start. All stunning! Then chicken red curry & beef with oyster sauce! Sticky rice & egg noodles. It was beautiful! Will definitely be back!

Nice modern surroundings with a good selection of gins at the bar served in large gin glasses with fruit garnishes. Food is excellent quality every time I have been and the service and prices are good. The set meals are also excellent and really reasonably priced and well worth the money - always food left over there is so much! Thoroughly recommend!

Have visited the pub several times over the years but last night was the first time we'd had a meal in the Thai restaurant above it. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, the staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable and the restaurant itself was pleasantly decorated with a relaxed atmosphere. It's very popular so pre-booking is advised, especially at weekends. After your meal you can go back downstairs and have a drink in the pub itself or, weather permitting, in the lovely beer garden at the back. Would recommend both the restaurant and the pub!

This is almost Doncaster's finest pub..... lovely real ale !!, great beer garden... lovely Thai food and a nice atmosphere... and the staff are great..only downside is that its a bit pricey for the ale... all said and done this pub is a must for anyone calling in to town.... especially for a tea time session !!

Delighted to find this Thai restaurant above the Salutation pub. It was busy even on a Tuesday night and I'm not surprised. Charming staff, good service, interesting menu, very tasty food - one of the best Thai meals I have had - and reasonable prices (soup, main course with rice and beer £18). Very pleasant decor and atmosphere. Highly recommended but access is only by a flight of stairs.

Tried Thai at the Sal with a friend following a week of Thai craving. We hadn't been to the restaurant before but had heard good things and I was pleased to find that Doncaster once again had a Thai restaurant following the sad closure of Bangkok Royal Elephant years ago.

Just been to The Sal for a Thai meal and we will most definitely be going back! Fast and friendly service and THE most fantastic food. We had the set menu so we could try lots of different dishes and we were not disappointed. Everything was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to go again!

We chose the £18 set menu for 2. Shared starters and mains with rice and noodles. Tea/coffee included. Food hot and tasty. Good value. Staff attentive. Decor is quite nice.

My birthday meal here was faultless.we had Brockmans gins to start- made with care and very nice, then we had the set meal A which we would recommend,assorted starters were excellent and the beef mossman curry and the Duck were outstanding. The house red was very palatable. Altogether very good and reasonably priced.highly recommended.

What better way to spent an evening by having drinks in one of the oldest pubs in Doncaster, then going upstairs to the Thai restaurant. The last time I was in the upstairs room was years ago for a friend's birthday. I couldn't believe the transformation the owners have done to the room. It is now a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food, and great service. A really welcoming environment, tastefully decorated, and I can't wait to return to try some more of the wonderful dishes on offer.

Went on a Sunday night with a group of friends. This place has had an amazing makeover since the last time i visited. Still a good traditional pub downstairs, but transformed into a lovely Thai restaurant upstairs. Had a set meal which cost £18. The table was filled with lots of lovely Thai dishes. The duck and the beef were amazing. Overall the quality of the food was superb and there was lots of it. The staff were courteous and friendly. The service was fast. They even put the food we hadn't eaten into containers which we took home. One word of warning, the restaurant is upstairs, so those with mobility problems should check first.

My friend and I visited here for her birthday. We went for the set meal as we weren’t sure what to have and it was all really lovely. Very tasty, with fresh and flavoursome ingredients.

We had our wedding meal at the Thai at the Sal and they looked after us like we were royalty. Very attentive and the food was out of this world. In fact the most mentioned thing about our wedding was just how nice the food was.

Best bar in town with good selection of draught and bottled beers. Good cask ale selection with frequent guest beers. Good spirit and wine selection. Excellent Garden area. Very clean and well presented. Lovely restaurant upstairs and you can order food to eat in bar or garden areas. Several Tv's for sports fans with lots quiet areas as well. Good Thai menu with plenty of choice. This is Thai in England not in Thailand so for the choosy ones it may not be ideal, for most others it's very good. Very clean, comfy and well presented. It gets very busy at usual times. Easy to park at the rear and in front at night times, busy weekdays for parking. Fairly priced and very good value. Highly recommended.

This the first time ive eaten in a thia restaurant believe it or not and the experaince was fab to start with a couple of beers in the sal then up to the restaurant, which was busy our table for 2 by the window you could hear yr self talk.
