I have come here many many times and generally really enjoyed eating here. However as of this week we will not ever be returning back here for anything other than the carvery. The menu has been completely redone. Gone is the birthday meal. Gone is the custom burger options and removing double stack cheese rings. Gone is any good portion size. Gone is over half of the menu and dessert menu. Gone is actual warm food when you get it. The burgers were horrible and that's a tragedy cause I loved them everytime. You have changed the beef quality, it's tasteless. Can't even choose your own bun from brioche to seeded. Double stack has less vs what we used to get, the portion size is tiny compared to what we used to get, especially coleslaw. The chips were almost cold, the ketchup in the sachets felt warmer. So you get far less on your plate, lower quality food. To make things worse, the prices have gone up, and not by a couple of pence either. I have the older menu saved on my phone still and have made a good comparison The only saving grace for this place for me now, is the carvery, if you decide to mess around with that too then you'll be loosing even more customers. I used to always recommend this place. What a shame.

Great food, drinks are a little pricey but the place is best enjoyed during quieter times when the staff look less stressed. Been plenty of times and haven't had a major issue with food yet. Would be nice to provide an option for fries too when people don't like chunky chips. EDIT: this place isn't as good as it used to be. The menu has been changed for the worse, tons of stuff removed, food tastes cheaper, burgers aren't the same at all. Food arrives cold, portion sizes are even smaller. The only thing saving this place (until they ruin that too) is the carvery. We used to be a regular customer here, but no more.

Good family pub and restaurant, good location, plenty of free parking. Good range of drinks and the food menu is actually very good with plenty of choice. The wait time can be a little long, we were there on a Friday evening and it was busy but to be fair to them when the food came it was excellent. My wife had sausage and mash and I had a Chicken noodle stir fry which was very enjoyable. The staff also acknowledged and apologised for the wait time. The bar also had £1 off a pint between 4-8pm Monday to Friday when we visited. I didn’t actually know this in advance, it was only when I noticed I’d been charged more for my second round that I found out. So next time I go I’ll probably arrive a little earlier🤣 Tables were cleared and cleaned efficiently, we managed to get a table which someone had just left and the girl was straight there to take the empty glasses and clean it for us. The pub is well kept, nice seating, no rips or dirt as you can sometimes find in busy places. The toilets were also spacious and clean. (Based on the men’s so I’m sure the ladies would be the same ) The pub also has a decent sized function room, we didn’t go in it but it was full, Ricky Tomlinson was on for one of the events they were holding. Bar staff and waiting staff were very polite and friendly, this is worth noting as I tend to return to places where you’re made to feel welcome and this was the case at the Pastures. To summarise: Recommended, great staff, good range of drinks, very good menu choices and excellent food based on our experience last night.

I had an evening meal here recently, and the experience was overall quite positive. The staff were very friendly, and the food was good. I had the fish, which was excellent. The atmosphere in the family room was fantastic, making it a great spot for families. The prices were reasonable, and there was plenty of parking available. I plan to visit earlier next time to take advantage of the play center. Update September 2024 : I went back for a family carvery, and the quality was good over all. However, the only downside in my opinion is that you don't scoop your own vegetables at the carvery I don't know if this is a new thing. So you may have to keep asking for more to be added if you enjoy a decent sized carvery or more of one thing than something else. (one roast potato at a time) Other wise very good.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pastures Lodge in Mexborough, and I can confidently say it was an outstanding experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality was evident. The staff here truly love what they do, and it shows in every aspect of their service. The food was a highlight of our visit. It arrived at our table surprisingly quickly, piping hot and served in generous portions. Each dish was delicious and satisfying, making it clear that the kitchen takes pride in their offerings. Equally impressive was the bar service. Our drinks, including a perfectly poured Guinness, were served promptly, and the bar staff was incredibly attentive. They ensured that we had everything we needed without us having to ask, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The cleanliness of the establishment also stood out; the tables were spotless, adding to the overall welcoming atmosphere. Despite being busy, the staff managed to fit us in without a hitch, which we greatly appreciated. Having visited Pastures Lodge for the past ten years during trips to Rotherham, I can honestly say this pub has become my favorite in the UK. The consistent quality of food, drink, and service over the years is remarkable. It's a place that feels like home, and I look forward to returning again and again. If you're in the area, don't miss out on this gem!

Pastures Lodge pub review. Food ok, drinks ok. Hot food served on cold plates is an amateur kitchen mistake. Great eating cold rice......Why when the staff ask "is everything ok, then you say, "actually no'" they go into shock mode. Then say "do we want it correcting." It shouldn't happen in the first place. On a positive note they do have beer mats.👍

Messaged the pub on its website couldn't be bothered to reply. Update, at the time I had my meal it did state that cake was available on the website, since then they have now removed it!.

Ok if there's just 2 of you but awful if you book a family gathering. Went for a family party and wasn't allowed to pre book and pay in advance. I didnt expect us all to eat at the same time but we all ordered within 5 minutes of each other yet some didn't receive theirs for well over an hour after we had finished eating ours. I made a complaint to manager but wasn't offered anything to compensate. We had a few that was under 18 and had to buy crisps cos they were waiting 2 hours for their meal to arrive. Won't be booking anymore family gatherings , not very good when you order your meal at 7.30 and it comes out at 9.30 . Need to let people pre order as long as they pay in advance

Went here with a bowling group. Most of us had the carvery. I have been to a few carveries but have never had my vegetables put on my plate for me, I can understand the reason so there is less waste, I had 2 very small parsnips, the cauliflower was hard, roast potatoes were cooked too much. We were very disappointed with the meal. A few of us ordered sweets which took nearly 45 minutes to arrive. £6.25 for a gin and lemonade is extortionate, never paid as much as that...ever. Don't think we will be booking or recommend this pub

Having been here before for meals, I already knew the food would be marvellous and not a long wait time. However, it is the first time for a carvery here. I wasn't impressed that I had to say what vegetables I wanted and wasn't able to get my own. Most carvery places serve you your meat and puddings, and you help yourself to the rest. That was the only letdown for me.

And its abit ridiculous how you don't want a dip its served with because you don't like it, so you ask to swap it for extra peri peri instead which was coming on your chicken, but your not allowed to do that, instead you have to pay 60p but then they didn't have the button to ask for it so couldn't do it anyway, and then you get told there's enough on the chicken anyway, Which there wasn't! It was dry as. All our meals were cold, but nobody bothered to ask us if everything was OK.

Took the family for a meal today. We’ve been a few times and it’s always been nice. I just thought I’d pop on to review today. At first I thought the menu wasn’t cheap BUT it’s far better quality than a lot of local ish chain type pubs. I had a mixed grill and blue cheese sauce. Most mixed grills are small pieces of meat without much flavour. The piece of steak on its own was far superior to most pub grub steaks. Wife had a huge burger which I accidentally doubled up not realising it was already a double so she ended up with 4 steak burgers. Not a problem as she shared some of it out. Proper steak burgers. The young boys had kids meals and it was a decent portion for my hungry 9 year old. Would happily return again.

Unfortunately located in Mexborough, Jeremy Kyle central, it's like walking into the job centre. We ate outside which was nicely quiet but a bit chilly, could do with some heat lamps to take the nip off, can't complain about the service, girls were attentive and served with a smile. Food came out in mega portions, burger was massive and same with the mega mixed grill, we weren't disappointed with quantity tho over all quality is what you expect from a budget food pub. And I don't know what in the universal credit is going on with the price of beer £6 per pint, maybe to keep the local community consumption to a minimum. Over all had a pleasant time with my family, may return in another 5- 10 years.

We orded food as a table and 2 meals came after 5 mins which were over cooked. How it was over cooked was a mystery. I can only imagine that it had been cooked and left on the side for a previous table. Food was nice but upset me and my partner the nxt day. Drinks were bang on tho

Feel robbed with the price of soda water and black current £4.40 for 1.5 pints! Daylight robbery. It's cheaper to drink alcohol.

Booked for 5, 1800hrs Easter Sunday. We've been to Pastures many many times, in fact it's our go to place if we just fancy a nice casual meal out. No complaints at all in the past, but today was disappointing. We were a part of five, and three of us were not pleased with what we received. The Fajita's two of us had one chicken and the other chicken and beef were both lacking meat, to the extent that we were both left with a pile of onions and peppers even before finishing the wraps that were served with them. The other disappointing meal was due to the squid being extremely overcooked and dry. The service which is usually good also fell short, as no one came back to the table to check if we were happy, if they had they'd of known we were not, we sat around after our meal for around 20 minutes waiting for our table to be cleared, but as no one showed, assuming no one cared either way we eventually gave up and left. I'm putting this down to a one off, maybe it had been a busy day, however that's no excuse really, if they maintain the price during the day, then service and quality should also be maintained. We will go back, where I shall expect a definable improvement.

The second worse food I’ve eaten, when ever did black bean sauce turn into gravy? This meal should have been a black bean sizzler that didn’t sizzle and was coupled to slimy noodles. This was sent back and replaced with what should have been a “steak” sandwich but only to find the same slop on the bread, probably from the plate of the first meal. Won’t be returning.

On visiting our favourite Yorkshire Wildlife Park required a cuppa & naughty cake stop. The Latte & Tea were excellent, the Honeycomb Cheesecake was delicious 🤤 Naughty & nice. The service was fast & efficient. Excellent refreshment stop.

We stopped here for one night to complete a run the next morning. Restaurant This is one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Most meals we have had elsewhere recently have had poor service or low quality food. Not here! The staff were so friendly and accommodating and very attentive. The service was just right; orders taken and plates cleared at appropriate times, and just the right amount of time between courses; not rushed and didn’t take ages. We share a garlic and cheese pizza bread which was tasty, hot and fresh. I had the pulled pork Yorkshire and my husband has the sausage and mash, again nice and hot and delicious; the vegetables were cooked perfectly too not mushy and not al dente. We had Bakewell tart for pudding and it was lovely to be asked whether we wanted it cold or warm. Hotel A really smooth check in again with really helpful and lovely staff. The room was small and basic but very clean and tastefully decorated. Nice and quiet apart from the odd train going past. Mini toiletries in the bathroom. Clean and fluffy towels. Tea making facilities and biscuits. Plenty of plug sockets. Good WiFi connection too. Thank you for a lovely stay and a lovely meal.

Everything is overpriced and poor/average quality and I mean everything. Ales are not kept well and wines etc are bought via their sister site (Shire Stores), food isn't great but expensive and they've gone through chefs like a knife through butter ! I wasn't there but my friend was in recently when the little lad (aka Bar Manager) refused to serve 2 customers at 10.50pm, at which point another customer offered to buy them a drink only to be told by the manager that they would be barred if they bought them drinks - wow, how to treat your customers. On the hygiene front, they made a massive thing out of finally getting a 5 star rating after the recent and well documented rat issues which is fair enough. However, the gents still stinks horrendous and of course the rat issue occurred when they previously had 5 stars - so much for the ratings. Previous employees and suppliers are still owed £1000's I keep popping in but there's no sign of things getting any better

If I could have given it a 0 I would have. The food was horrible, we sent the chips back as they were not cooked - rock hard. They then came back about 10 minutes later and were burnt to a crisp. When we raised it with the manager about them being ‘home made’ and don’t think they were, he admitted that they weren’t, they came from a bag - not sure why they are being advertised as home made? The ‘home made’ pie was definitely from a pack too, the mushrooms were like rubber. Our toddler spent most of the meal upset because he was either waiting for food to be recooked or it was burnt. The staff were not interested at all, the waitress just kept speaking over my husband. She went to speak with her manager about removing the chips from the bill, he couldn’t even be bothered to come over, until we asked to speak to him about feedback. He again couldn’t be less interested, just said ‘oh sorry about that’. Definitely will not be returning. We actually left the park as wanted a proper meal rather than a burger van, we will be going to the burger van next time. Absolutely horrible - avoid at all cost!
