I have been a customer for many years. Its gone down hill and the manager and staff all have developed a bit of an attitude problem. All the lovely girls who worked there have left and now only have the manager and one pregnant female. Jeez! Does she have a major chip on her shoulder! No please, thank you or smile. I had a cup with a broken handle, when taking it back to the counter to Steve, I was met not with an apology but with a "well you've got better eyes than me because I can't see anything!" My last visit, I wanted a breakfast (was told no, it was on the breakfast menu) so I asked for a bacon roll. Again "that's on the breakfast menu". We have always had them in the afternoon. No notice of a change given prior to this. So I asked for jacket potato. "Can't do that as only have 2 staff, Young girl is new today so don't expect too much off her! But we will cobble you summat together for you to eat!" So it was an overpriced sausage roll, which I could have bought from Greggs. I will definitely not be returning, and thought more of a caring client centred attitude would have been given seeing as there are greggs, Costa, Starbucks and other places close by. A shambles. No wonder he can't get staff.

We visit this cafe often. For some reason, recently you can only get drinks in take away cardboard cups… no explanation as to why!!! We took visitors from America today and I asked if we could possibly have proper cups. I was told quite sternly NO… if I do it for you I have to do it for others… it wouldn’t be fair…. Although you still get cakes on a plate… a fork to eat it with… yet a gentleman who ordered porridge was told he couldn’t have a spoon!!! Work that one out!!! We were in there a few days ago and my husband ordered earl grey… he got a tea pot and a cup and saucer… I got a cardboard cup…. Sorry… but if I’m going out for an afternoon coffee I don’t want it in a cardboard cup… so from now we will take our custom elsewhere

After visiting the coffe shop on many occasions today was really disappointing. The toasted tuna melt baquet we were served... tasted like boiled fish. In defence of the coffee shop this is our first disappointment. The staff are always polite at all times.

Popped in here with my son for a cake and a drink. Staff appeared bored and unwelcoming. Both the cakes we had were extremely dry and tasted stale as though they had been out for some considerable time. I had a cup of tea - was told everything you need to finish it is over there. Went to look and there was a small counter with milk jug / sugar sachets etc. No teaspoons. The cafe was grubby, and next time we visit this shopping area, we won’t make the mistake to go in here again.

Visited for a quick drink while shopping and impressed with the wide selection on offer as well as the availability of high chairs for smaller children. However they never seem to have enough staff working to meet demand and service is always a little slow.

Nice toasties and drinks, however the jacket potatoes I wouldnt have again as it sat heavy on my stomach all day. Toilets are not very clean in here which is a put off, and we do not see anyone cleaning in this place ever? which is a slight concern....

Called in for a quick brew whilst out. From outside it looked really busy, good sign? So we went in & grabbed a table. I instantly noticed that the back room was piled up with dirty pots, as was the table my wife took (last one available), and there were only 2 staff, the barista & one doing food. Both were flat out, faces like thunder & neither were interacting with customers. The more I looked around whilst I waited in the queue the more I realised how dirty it was. Once I joined my wife, she visited the toilet & I looked around. Lights had not been cleaned for months, the sides below the windows were caked in filth & the tables didn't know what antibacterial was! Then my wife returned & I could tell from her face that the toilet was disgusting too. They were deffo short staffed on this day but the dirt was a build up over time. In fact the only clean area we saw were the shop windows & these are done 3rd party. Such a shame as our coffees were beautiful but we will not return & I would advise anyone else visiting this location, go to Costa or Greg's

We arrived at Esquires at 4:03pm looking forward to coffee and a toasted sandwich only to be told that as they close at 4:30, they could not do any toasted sandwiches- ridiculous! Needless to say we did not stay and went to Costa instead where we were served.

A regular port of call if in the area , reliably good , fairly recent expanded ‘hot’ menu means it’s now more then just another coffee shop ,Steve and the helpful staff really will make your drink exactly how you want it , a lot of places say this but don’t deliver . Keep it up guys .

We drove past and decided to stop for a coffee and snack and were greeted by some very friendly staff. The toffee and banana muffin was delicious as was the bacon roll at very reasonable prices. The drinks seemed on the expensive side until the size of the mugs became apparent - the large latte was huge so really justified the price. Great little place

I decided to go shopping near on Friday 23rd December at 8am, bad move .. Christmas craziness in full flow. But the tranquility and calm atmosphere of this coffee shop was lovely. I like the fact they have music and Sky TV as part of the experience. Some of the competitors have got a bit robotic and it's nice to go somewhere a bit more personal .. thank you

£2 charge to get a glass of milk for a 2yr old didn't go down well - young girl serving clearly had no idea and gave a huge glass of the stuff. Mentioned it to the more mature lady who was preparing the drinks and she saw sense and gave me my money back- thank you.

Great for a decent coffee that leaves a good after taste and not one that you need another drink to rinse your mouth out, cakes and sandwiches seem expensive but there is greggs next door if you want cheap food . It is a franchise but doesn't seem as totally profit orientated as the other main coffee chains.

Been in here twice this week. First time a young man took our order and when we went for our drink's one was a tea. The young man thought he had done our order wrong and apologized. On checking the receipt he had'nt,it was the person making the drinks, ( a man of a certain age shall we say ). No apology there though. The second time there were 2 young ladies and the man. Both the girls were new in the job but were doing fine I thought. I paid a visit to the loo at 3-30 and after leaving I mentioned the loo roll had run out so it was then passed to whom I assume is the boss and he muttered something. In the meantime quite a few people went in with children and then my friend went before we left. That was at 4-15 and still the loo roll had not been changed. I know some don't always mention thing's to staff but we had and nothing was done. Just before we left the man put a notice on the door which said they were closing at 4-30,wonder what he said to customers still in and it was busy. Try again another day i think.

Have been a regular visitor for some years. The last few times I have been, although teacakes are on the card, they have not had any. This time I checked and, no, not today. Now there is a Greggs right next door and you would think, if you were a manager, 'someone may want a teacake i'll nip next door and buy a pack for £1.20'. Not here tho. So, feeling a bit resourceful and, liking their coffee, nipped to Greggs and bought a pack. Said to the very nice assistant ' as you don't have any would you do one of these, I'll pay you and have a coffee or two' Assistant asks manager (sorry sales prevention manager) ' herumph, couldn't possibly, no, i'm not doing that' almost verbatim. Net result, go 200 yards up the road to new Dunelm cafe, much nicer, good review to follow. Now, is it me? Service is this: a good old friend had a traditional english Steak House in the 90's. Gang of chaps come in, one moaning that he wants a curry. Bit of banter, Rob cheekily refuses to take his order but asks what curry he likes. I think you'll see where this is going. As the steaks arrive for the gang, in troops a very dark gent with serving dish held high and serves sad chap a curry from the restaurant next door. Result sad chap now happy, Rob gets loads of publicity. This I like, no teacakes and sales prevention NO!

We stopped here for one night to complete a run the next morning. Restaurant This is one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Most meals we have had elsewhere recently have had poor service or low quality food. Not here! The staff were so friendly and accommodating and very attentive. The service was just right; orders taken and plates cleared at appropriate times, and just the right amount of time between courses; not rushed and didn’t take ages. We share a garlic and cheese pizza bread which was tasty, hot and fresh. I had the pulled pork Yorkshire and my husband has the sausage and mash, again nice and hot and delicious; the vegetables were cooked perfectly too not mushy and not al dente. We had Bakewell tart for pudding and it was lovely to be asked whether we wanted it cold or warm. Hotel A really smooth check in again with really helpful and lovely staff. The room was small and basic but very clean and tastefully decorated. Nice and quiet apart from the odd train going past. Mini toiletries in the bathroom. Clean and fluffy towels. Tea making facilities and biscuits. Plenty of plug sockets. Good WiFi connection too. Thank you for a lovely stay and a lovely meal.

Everything is overpriced and poor/average quality and I mean everything. Ales are not kept well and wines etc are bought via their sister site (Shire Stores), food isn't great but expensive and they've gone through chefs like a knife through butter ! I wasn't there but my friend was in recently when the little lad (aka Bar Manager) refused to serve 2 customers at 10.50pm, at which point another customer offered to buy them a drink only to be told by the manager that they would be barred if they bought them drinks - wow, how to treat your customers. On the hygiene front, they made a massive thing out of finally getting a 5 star rating after the recent and well documented rat issues which is fair enough. However, the gents still stinks horrendous and of course the rat issue occurred when they previously had 5 stars - so much for the ratings. Previous employees and suppliers are still owed £1000's I keep popping in but there's no sign of things getting any better
