Lovely evening. The location, atmosphere, service and food were excellent. I can definitely recommend this pub. I will definitely come back.

My husband & I, our twin grandsons & little dog arrived on spec at the Rising Sun at Kingsdown yesterday in the hope of a good lunch & were so glad we happened upon this pub. The two young ladies behind the bar were lovely; friendly & welcoming & very attentive to us. The food was delicious & was presented very well, compliments to the chef. Our table was clean & tidy. Clean & well equipped toilets. A perfect eating experience. Thank you to all, we’ll definitely be back. 5*

Camping at Kingswood and ate here twice. Lovely owners, amazing food and such great staff. All the girls behind the bar and waitressing are so lovely. Really impressed with this place. Highly recommend. Had Mussells first time with fresh bread, then had steak and hubby had chilli. Amazing.

Had a lovely meal. A little odd as people were ordering a just Eat and eating it at their tables. We spent a lot of money eating of the meal- which was fine but not amazing. Had we known we would have also ordered a Just Eat and eaten a curry/pizza in the garden. We will do next time as would be so much cheaper 👍

If you are looking for a pub near Kingsdown beach, one that serves great food, by friendly staff, then this is the place for you. I booked a table for two for a couple of my guests that were celebrating their wedding anniversary. It was a short notice booking. From the moment the phone was answered, I knew it had been the right decision. Such welcoming staff and great food. The chef, Jake, cooked amazing homemade burgers and also scampi. Cooked to perfection. My guests couldn't speak highly enough. The service, by Mia, was friendly and welcoming. She made sure they were greeted warmly and congratulated them on their anniversary. I cannot fault anything. With gardens outside and a lovely English pub atmosphere, this place caters for families and large parties, as well as couples just stopping for a drink. Highly recommended! Hidden pub down the road from its more touristy snobby neighbour. It offers a fabulous pub garden and an old-fashioned game of 10 pin bowling. It has a covered outside area with a TV. Staff and locals are really friendly. The pub menu is well priced and delicious fresh grub. Good range of lagers, too. During the week, the pub only opens around 4 pm. But at the weekend from midday. Suggest booking at the weekend if you are more than a party of two.

Still remain the best pub in Kingsdown. Sunday lunch lovely. Staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating. Standards remain high, which is a joy to see and experience.

What a great pub with a lovely staff. Also the locals were very friendly and in for a chit chat. Relaxed atmosphere! But... the food was also great and very delicious! So don't look further, this is the right spot for a few pints, food and a good atmosphere.

Staff are excellent, food quality, presentation and cost is outstanding. Quality wines, white served chilled. A great experience.

Nit the best pub. Poor food, barely any vegan choices, not the best quality, poor service, poor looking premises...very expensive drinks and not many options....

Had a excellent stay here at the apartment upstairs, came down for a roast on the Sunday and the portion was great for value, the Lamb was so tender and soft, melted in my mouth! Owners are incredibly welcoming! Definitely recommending to everyone and coming back!

We stopped here for a beer and stayed for Sunday lunch which was delicious. I had the vegetarian option of nut roast with all the trimmings my companion had shoulder of Lamb. I highly recommend it. The open fire was blazing in the corner, the welcome and service was just as warm.

Fabulous little local set in an old character pub with excellent food

Friendly relaxed pub, decent food.

I dined at this pub and it was great. The food was excellent, and I highly recommend trying their delicious Scotch Egg, a true specialty. The service was friendly and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. The interior was comfortable and inviting.

Visited this time last year after checking on their website that they did food. It said they did but when I got there they said they wasn’t doing food at that current time and they hadn’t got around to updating their website. Back in the area now and checked their website again. Looked like its had a revamp and said that it was open from 2pm and that they served food from 2:30pm. When I got there at 2:40pm it was shut and the sign outside said it wasn’t open until 4pm. So so frustrating. Can’t do the very basics of keeping their website up to date and keeping potential customers informed of when they are open and serving food. Pathetic.

Came as a group of 19. Toni was so accommodating to us all, seated us in the garden and made sure the skittle alley was set up for us. Food was delicious, reasonable prices and my son (who had the mussels) said it was the best he’d ever tasted. A great day, fantastic food and brilliant hosts!

Had a big bowl of mussels was very good I often pop in for a beer and the staff are always welcoming to both human and doggy customers

This place was a life saver for me. I had just trudged 2 hours in blistering heat from Dover to Deal and I was desperate for refreshment! The barmaids smile was the most welcome sight I could've imagined at that point and the 2x ice cold orange juices she served me were godsent! She filled my refillable bottle with beautiful cold water too. It was literally heaven here!

Excellent food and service, dont waste your time going up the hill when you have a lovely welcoming place like this. Phoned to ask if they were doing food and nice lady booked us a table. On arrival table was waiting ready for us, no waiting. Food was served in good time and was very nice. We will be back

First visit. Match Day. Obviously a busy lunchtime. Staff were very good when the pub was so very lively. Really enjoyed the delicious Sunday pork roast lunch which arrived promptly. Pleasant venue with tables and umbrellas in smallish garden out back. Definitely will make a return visit.

Went here for our last night of our holiday. Food and desserts were delicious and my kids really liked it too. Even a homemade bowling alley outside. Would definitely visit again

This is my local when I'm here on holiday Nice local friendly pub and pleasant staff.

Wonderful pub, has several vegetarian options such as a delicious Halloumi Burger. Unfortunately they don't normally do take out, but there is plenty of seating in the pub itself, or, for a bit more quiet, in the pub's backyard garden. Dog friendly.

Popped in for a couple of beers ,sat in the garden . Very enjoyable, staff were very nice .

The staff was very sweet to our family while we stopped through. Wish they were our local pub.

A bit grubby. A free house with just one Fullers ale. One of the menu options was homemade Scotch Egg and an option for the same with chips. We ordered a Scotch Egg and two fish & chips as we didn’t trust the look of the food coming out. We asked to get the Scotch Egg first for us to share. The kitchen refused to serve the Scotch Egg first as that would constitute a starter and they don’t do starters. Plus they were out of fish & chips. We decided that anywhere who found putting a Scotch Egg on a plate too much to contemplate isn’t a venue for us and we left.

Visited with a large group of families for lunch. Fantastic warm welcome and friendly service and things to do for the kids including bowling alley outside. Really tasty food - particularly recommend the moules and the nachos with vibrant hand made salsa and guacamole. Top place.

Great little friendly pub close to the beach. Used by locals with a skittle Alley outside where a match taking place. This didn't detract from the service provided. The food was very good & service efficient and friendly. No rush for the table. A really nice, relaxing evening.

Out of all the pubs in the area this is the one to go to! lovely staff who since the chef was on holiday offered that we ordered takeout and ate it in the pub with their cutlery! so homely and smells amazing! really nice friendly beer garden!! couldn’t recommend enough thank you!!

My friend Mark and I decided to go for the pork chop after much deliberation. It was a large and succulent piece of meat , covering half the plate. The chefs sauce was to die for. Clearly these owners go for quality local butchers and it was so tender. We even over heard the German couple on another table state the fillet stake was the best they had tasted and fantastic value. Pound for pound the best steak they’d ever had. !! Well worth a visit. !!!

Just had a lovely lunch with the kids at The Rising Sun. Lovely friendly staff, lots of GF options including the fish and chips which is a rare GF treat. All washed down with a yummy bottle of Côtes du Rhône rose. This is our second visit here, and we will definitely return.

Brilliant day, superb atmosphere

It's was OK. The Sunday of the coronation, live music and good weather. Thought the Sunday lunch was a little over priced, a pile of shredded lamb, 2 slices or carrot, 3 slices of parsnip, 4 roast potatoes a sprig of broccoli and a Yorkshire pudding.The banoffee sundea was the outrageously over priced for what we got. Absolutely tiny for the better part of £7 and predominantly made up of fake squirty cream. That is literally a biscoff biscuit sticking out the top !

Above and beyond, despite being well booked up, they tried their hardest to fit us in. Two people and a dog 🐕 that's no mean feat. The food was top-notch, and just perfect, as was the service and staff well done all.

Incredible food and good atmosphere

We didn't eat here last night, but saw some wonderful looking food being served. We stayed for a few drinks. The staff were brilliant, really friendly, chatty and helpful. The atmosphere is one of a friendly and welcoming locals pub.

What a fantastic pub. Its the gift, that just keeps giving. Warm, friendly lovely staff. Toni and Dan are welcoming and accommodating. Had the Moules and Frites. So, so good. Mussels were absolutely lovely. Cooked to perfection. Well done guys. Keep up the good work

A large group of us went for Sunday lunch. It was a fabulous roast, all well cooked and lots of gravy but the puddings were not good at all; the brownie was dry chocolate cake and the pavlova was a supermarket meringue nest with squirty cream and berries, just awful and such a shame after such a good roast.

My husband and I stopped at THE RISING SUN in the village of Kingsdown ( Kent ) after a nice walk around the area, for lunch. It was our first visit to this lovely old pub, but we will definitely go there again. The food was perfect, service good, prices reasonable, and the atmosphere welcoming and friendly.

Super friendly, welcoming pub with very good food. Thoroughly enjoyed fishcakes while others enjoyed burgers.

My family (2 adults & 4 children) visited during half term. The staff were very welcoming and the food was great. The service wasn’t rushed so we stayed around 2 hours for mains and desserts. We had booked and would recommend to make a reservation as it got busier as the evening went on.

Had an amazing meal off the new menu . Cooked to perfection, Deserts amazing . Staff very friendly and accommodating. Will be returning very soon to try another dish off the menu .

I've popped in here a few times in my visits to Kingsdown. I always find the staff and patrons to be very friendly. Recently we had Sunday Roast there and it was pretty good. Easy to get a reservation too.

Very nice cider available here, cosy pub a stone's throw from the beach, with secluded beer garden at the rear.

Leuke pub waar je goed kan eten met, hoe leuk is dat! een kegel baantje. Vriendelijke mensen in de bediening. Tevens ook prima prijzen. Goeie porties. De pub heeft een lange geschiedenis. Kortom je kan er gerust heen gaan voor een drankje en hapje. Je kan binnen en buiten zitten.

I've been to this pub many times and always enjoy going there. Just a minute from the beach. Nice inside with a small restaurant section,good outside area with skittle alley. Good friendly person behind the bar and great pint of London Pride.

Visited The Rising Sun in Deal Kent while on a break found food ok service was slow but the staff were very pleasant

Lovely food and the portions were generous. My only problems was the knives were not sharp enough to cut the meat. However, the meat was lovely and tender. Enjoyed the meal, staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean and tidy.

Came here for lunch today, was a limited menu, but was very enjoyable, plenty of food, desserts were good too. The pork crackling was cooked to perfection 😋

My family and I ate at the Rising Sun on Saturday night. The food was excellent and the service was really good. We had pre-ordered due to being a larger party and the food was served really quickly. The staff and landlord were so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

We were pleasantly surprised with our evening meal here. We came in out of a very wet and windy evening to be greeted by a warm and friendly atmosphere. I had the braised lamb and my wife had haddock with a crispy egg. Delicious. This pub is worth a visit.

Roast Dinner was AWFUL. The lamb seems to have been microwaved or was boil-in-bag, formed into a cat-food shaped mound. Veg was also mushy and I presume microwaved. For some reason we had 'crackling' which resembled a long pork scratching from a supermarket. This was the best bit. We had to pay for our food before it arrived which should have rung alarm bells and nobody came to ask how our food was. The vegetable gravy tasted odd especially when mixed with the lamb gravy that was seeping out of the pre-packaged meat. The Aunt Bessie's frozen Yorkshire pudding was ok but still managed to be served soggy. The staff were all really nice and friendly. The food was just very bad.
