After waiting over an hour to finally be served our roast dinner. Which arrived wrong as it was the table next to ours order. Which they were waiting for after their starters. So after changing the roast pork for beef we waited 5 and half minutes before the vegetables & gravy arrived. So the meat & potatoes are now cold the broccoli was mush well over cooked and gravy was just stock. No Yorkshire puddings as apparently run out. Which is hard to believe as quick & easy to make a patch up for another 8 roasts dinners considering the time we and the other table waited. The other table then cancelled their order. Free round of drinks offered but we decided to have our dessert else where. Will not be rushing back.

We wanted somewhere local for a group of four where we could enjoy a drink and a chat. I had been in to the Hare and Hounds a few times for a drink, but not for food. After reading the recent reviews and talking to a couple of locals we decided to try it. So glad we did as Jade(the landlady) gave us a lovely friendly welcome and we ordered our varying drinks before taking a table near the window, not far from the open log fire. We ordered starters and our main meals and didn't have to wait long before they arrived. The choices of scampi, gammon, lasagna and burger where all very well cooked and enjoyed by all. As where the mushrooms in garlic sauce which set the standard for the rest of the meal. The chef obviously knows how to keep the customers happy and is a credit to the establishment. We didn't all have desserts, but the fruit crumble that I chose had a lovely crumble and the custard complemented the fruit nicely without being too sweet.

My wife and I visited the Hare & Hounds today for lunch. We opted for the 2 course lunch for £8.95. There was a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 puds. We both chose stilton and broccoli soup (with crusty roll and butter) to start. For the main course I chose liver and bacon with mash and 3 veg and my wife chose sausage and mash with peas. The food really was excellent and £8.95 was exceptional value for 2 courses. The liver was perfectly cooked - which, in my experience of pub food, is a rarity - and the vegetables were fresh. The desserts included jam roly poly and steamed syrup sponge pudding but we managed to fight off the urge for the main/pudding option for the sake of our waistlines! The pub is family-run and the staff were friendly and welcoming and it seemed they were making a genuine effort to make our visit enjoyable and worthwhile. In conversation we found out that the pub had been run down by the previous owners and it has recently been refurbished. We found it to be clean and although modern-looking it had a real country pub atmosphere. It was cold and damp outside and the log fire was a definite attraction - particularly for two labrador pups (and their owners) who headed straight for it! From the number of people in the bar when we left, the pub appears to be recovering well from neglect and from our own experience it deserves to be successful. The pub also has a large car park and a beer garden (for the summer). We will definitely go back there - puds next time?

I have to declare an interest. This pub is "on my patch". The H&H; has been through some gruesome times. Bias alert over, it was once a great village pub and I can only report that its lovely new (Sept/Oct 2017) landlords Danny and Jade are working every hour and bending over backwards to make sure that good beer and more recently, food, is available. The last two reviews are spot on for "how it was", a total embarrassment; but that was then and this is now. A new chef has just started....... I wish them well.

We booked the Hare and Hounds for a meal. After phoning and confirming possible wait times an hour before, we arrived to be told that practically everything on the menu had gone and wait times were over an hour. After a drink, we subsequently found that one table of 6 had been waiting for 2 hours, another table were discussing with the bar person how much they were not going to pay for the drinks they had. This was after , quite rightly , deciding to leave after waiting a similar time without being served. We watched in disbelief as the pub manager seemed not to care in the slightest that things were so bad. He even tried to with customers about the complete lack of service and quality of food before saying to them 'well just don't pay them'. This pub used to be a a great place to eat and drink but not any more. It's a beautiful village and deserves better from the people running it. We travelled 2 minutes along the road to a pub in Finglesham. They fitted us in and served us with great food and drink.

We don't like giving bad reviews as we sympathise with people trying to run a business but our visit to the Hare and Hounds yesterday evening was awful. We moved to a nearby village recently and decided to give the pub a try as it's a lovely walk over with the dog and the trip advisor reviews were good. We arrived at 18:45 so we could have a drink in the beer garden before our meal at 19:00. There was only one other person waiting to be served but it still took ages to get some drinks. We were also disappointed with the selection as there was only one real ale (Masterbrew) and two lagers, one of which ran out after one pint. We returned to the bar just after 19:00, ordered more drinks and went to our table. The waitress arrived eventually to give us the menus and told us there were no burgers steak or chicken, which only left us with a choice of nachos, tacos or pizza. We placed our order and asked what red wine they had, to be told Merlot or Shiraz. We ordered a bottle of Merlot, which, when it arrived, was plonked on the table and not even opened. We wish we had left it that way as it was practically undrinkable (La Folie Douce), but we had a glass each. There was a party of six people sitting behind us, who had been waiting for their food since we arrived so we were getting concerned (and hungry!) when there was still no sign of our meal by 19:45. At 20:00, when the other party were still waiting, we decided to give up and asked for the bill at the bar. We were told that we wouldn't be charged for the gin and tonic so it would be £29 - for a pint of lager and bottle of cheap wine?! We weren't happy so only paid £20 but it would have been less if we'd had a ten pound note. This is the first time we have ever walked out of a restaurant and we will not be returning, which is such a shame as it is a lovely pub in a pretty village.

Chips were frozen & overcooked & fish was more or less inedible. Hardly any fish & batter so hard it was impossible to eat! We were extremely disappointed as we were very hungry as we hadn't eaten since breakfast time. Peas were on menu with the fish & chips, but didn't appear . When we asked, we were eventually presented with the tiniest portion we had ever seen- not even a tablespoon each! So terribly disappointing. Would never go back there. Worst meal we've ever had! It was a cold and frosty January evening and although the fire was lit the pub was cold. The burger I had was perfectly nice but I would have preferred "proper" chips rather than French fries. The only vegetarian option for mains was the mushroom linguini and the banoffee waffle dessert was, in my opinion, over priced at £4.95. This consisted of a very small waffle a few slices of banana, toffee sauce and a scoop of ice cream. They are also advertising pizzas which were not on the menu and when we enquired about them the waitress did not seem to think they are doing them any more.

No kids so time for a dog walk and wine across to the Hare and Hounds, whilst the kids are away the parents will play! Lovely gourmet style burgers with thick chips and slaw, then a choc dessert..what's not to like? Changed owners since we've been.

The food was very good and the canneloni was spot on. The staff were very attentive and we were well looked after. My husband and I do like to eat early and it was unfortunate that we were the only customers until just before 8pm on a Friday night. It would really be a shame to lose another country pub, so do visit, give it a go.

Visited last year and the place had hit rock bottom. Some friends mentioned that they had been and was under new leadership. The food was amazing, best Italian food I have had in years. Open fire, lovely bar area to relax and unwind and great selections of beer and wines. We will be visiting this weekend to try the roast which we heard some customers raving about.

This lovely little country pub is local to us and after hearing that it had changed hands again, decided to give it a try. It specializes in traditional rustic Italian food which is done very well ! The welcoming staff will serve you gorgeous olives and home made Focaccia, lovely rustic main courses which were delicious and if you can find the room, a choice of desserts or cheeses. The pub is cosy and welcoming with a nice log fire in the bar area. It is a real gem and so worth a visit so book up and give it a try, it`s absolutely perfect for a romantic evening and we shall certainly be going again !.

My partner and I visited midweek for a treat, and were sceptical as we'd been previously and were very disappointed, particularly with the service but also with the lack of atmosphere and basic food menu. However it has recently been taken over and is under new management which I believe is exactly what this place needed! I am so pleased to say we had the most fantastic Italian Tapas which was delicious!! We sat comfortably by the fire and enjoyed our meal and the friendly service in addition to the fresh food is exactly why we'll be returning! Glad to see this little country pub back to how it should be! :)

Went back to the Hare and Hounds after a fairly long absence as it had gone downhill - had Sunday lunch out of desperation driven by an empty larder and hunger, Very pleasant surprise - an excellent lunch and then discovered that they served Italian Tapas during the week and had changed hands.Returned for an evening meal, brilliant, thoroughly enjoyable, good value and great homemade Italian desserts. Will certainly go back again and again.

Friendly welcoming atmosphere. Great linguine and especially liked the fresh olives in it. The music is not too loud and it is easy to have a friendly conversation.

I love this pub. Been coming here on and off for many years. New management and new chef always pricks my ears. My visit certainly wasn't disappointing! Italian style tapas is a fantastic idea. There were many things I love to eat. I recommend the asparagus, arancini, antipasto.....actually all of it! Eat it allllll!!! The olives are perfect! Proper real decent olives. A very good indication to how good the ingredients are. I intend to return ASAP with my friend, sit by that gorgeous fire, drink prosecco and order plate after plate in a long precession one afternoon very shortly. Can't wait!!!!
