Deal Hoy in Dover

Horrible food. Tinned vegetables and poor quality meat. Hard overcooked roast potatoes. Horrible desert. Best eat at home or definitely somewhere else. Lots of flies everywhere on the ceiling also.

Can’t honestly review the food but I am not into pizza and usually pop by in the day so the oven is never on. I have been in half a dozen times , over maybe 12 years , each time I go back to check if I get a more pleasant reception or acknowledged as a return customer,but I absolutely don’t.I try to support local pubs but the look I get even though I am usually on my own, from the lady there speaks volumes. I even perused all the local pics on the wall from local artists, of which I know many of the buildings and boats and the owners and boatmen over 18+ years but zero interest , even from the few ‘regulars’. She (or they) have never once been warm,or even vaguely engage,silent suspicion &barely eye contact.It’s a pub not a treasury and not many punters.I am a customer & human being. Saving grace-Ok garden. Doubt I will return, tbh doubt they care..

It would be nice if the customers were offered the same mask as the cook wears when he’s smoking out the beer garden! Spoils what is a nice pub.

What an amazing pub! The owners and staff obviously really care about this pub and have done a wonderful job at making it a really welcoming place. They let our children make their own pizzas, which were really delicious. The beers were also great. Thank you for a great couple of visits on our holiday!

Absolutely delicious. Our waitress was lovely and food didn’t long to come, our kids were allowed to make their own pizzas as an Easter activity which I found was very good best pizza I’ve honestly ever had along with the dessert which consisted of a mini egg cheesecake and a chocolate cake probably best pizza I’ve ever had!! 5 stars .

Good company, fantastic pizzas and lovely staff. Had the chcuterie pizza and one with beetroot and goats cheese. Delicious. Spent a very pleasant sat evening with friends

Came here as a recommendation particularly wanting to try the pizzas. The pub is very clean and modern. It was obvious that this pub is well supported by regulars, as being away from the high street, it still attracted people to it. The wine selection, as well as the awesome wood fired pizzas are a must have.

We had been here for pizza several times pre COVID. Finally got round to coming again, and so pleased we did. Absolutely the best pizza in Deal! Real Italian pizza cooked in real wood pizza oven. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. If you’ve been to Italy and you crave ‘real pizza’. Deal Hoy is the place to go…. 10 out of 10

From the incredible food and drink, to the care and attention we received - they made it an unforgettable evening. So many of our guests commented on what a fantastic place it was! The tastiest pizzas in Deal by far! The service and staff at the Deal Hoy are so friendly and welcoming. We had the most wonderful evening with friends and can’t wait to return. Next time we will sit in the gorgeous garden.

This is a great little pub/restaurant. Located off the main high street. This is our second time visiting whilst on holiday. Always a friendly atmosphere and the food is always good quality. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on offer. The pizza oven in the garden is great, offering classic Margarita's to a sweet chocolate, marshmallow and banana pizza.

Had a tasty traditional breakfast. The food was sourced locally and the service was fast and friendly. Recommend you try for yourselves.

Had a great friends wedding party here on Friday. Staff were fantastic. Have been before and enjoyed it and the Pizzas are great.

A lovely pub, recently refurbished by the new owner, with, I think, the best beer garden in Deal. Very friendly and welcoming owner, good selection of drinks. Definitely recommend and looking forward to going back.

Always a reliable pub. Good food, but a little pricey. Excellent atmosphere. Alround, a real asset to Deal and well worth visitors trying it out.

I disagree with the last two negative comments, which were clearly written by the same person with 2 TripAdvisor profiles. Yes ok there maybe rubbish there, but that's not the pubs fault, that's down to the waste management company not not collecting it. There will always be teething issues with a new venture, especially when it's been so busy there with this glorious weather. The place is spotless, my friend went in the gents toilets and commented on how clean they were, and likewise in the ladies. This pub is a hidden gem in the back streets of Deal, the staff are fantastic, the new management have hit the ground running, and they are doing a fantastic job, and people should not be put off by one persons negative comments. Well worth a visit, the pizzas are Amazing.

High hopes dashed. Knowing new tenants had taken over we decided to visit. Without doubt the Deal Hoy has the best beer garden around. It should be a huge asset with summer here. Walking into the garden we were greeted with sacks of rubbish next to the pizza ovens. Bins full of glass bottles next to the rubbish and a rusty old bread bin waiting to be taken away. At the rear of the garden were 2 old chip fryers. Looking around it’s obvious to see the garden hadn’t been swept since last summer. Visiting the gents I could see it hadn’t been cleaned for a few days. Sadly there’s nothing uplifting to report and we left feeling let down. Knowing pubs are going through time with the cost of living crisis I can’t see the point spending money in a pub where standards are low. We will try another visit as we want to support local businesses and hope things have improved.

Really fancied a pizza tonight and we were so happy and lucky to have stumbled upon The Deal Hoy. We had lovely warm welcome from the owner, who took the time time to talk us through the different beers and have a taste. The pizzas were delicious, beautiful combinations on crisp and thin bases, my prosecco came in a small bottle which was perfect!

Have visited on many occasions, fantastic staff! …. and excellent pizzas - prepared an cooked in front of you in a stone pizza oven!

Great Bloody Marys from Ben. Superb pizza's, lively atmosphere. We love it and visit every time we're in Deal!

Top boozer. Bar tender laughed at my jokes and made me feel a million. If you like beer and nice atmospheres, go here asap. Matt and I will return.

Welcoming, traditional, comfortable local pub.

My friends and I found our way to the Deal Hoy on a Friday evening having never been to Deal before. We were so impressed by the pizzas and service was great.

Not as good as it used to be.pizzas used to be amazing, Now like a cracker with a topping. We’ve given this place the benefit of the doubt for a good few months but won’t bother again.

Went for a meal with a friend and a couple of drinks, was pretty disappointed by the miserable and unfriendly middle aged men behind the bar who ignored us for the first few minutes then eventually found the energy and will to direct us to the table I had reserved. We asked to sit outside, and they found a table, with other people then sat on right next to us because they couldn’t be bothered to move a reserved sign. They got drinks orders wrong, for which there was no apology, they were impolite and had all the enthusiasm of a pair of snails crawling over ground glass. It’s a nice location and looks good, but the gruff middle aged men that seem to be running the place need to retire ASAP and be replaced by some staff that can actually summon up a smile and some shred of enthusiasm which the miserable middle aged contingent milling around seemed to struggle to do. Skip this place. Deal is nice so look elsewhere. The other customers seemed quite miserable too. We held doors open for people and moved out of their way, with no thanks. It was like an evening from Shaun of the Dead.

Went in on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t as busy as we’d expected. We had a hot dog from the garden BBQ which was scrummy albeit not cheap (it is Deal after all). Seemed to have lots of regulars, but were still welcoming to visitors

We booked the Deal Hoy for a special meal as the pizzas were highly rated. The pub was very cold with both front and back doors open “because of Covid”. We were moved to another table, which was a bit warmer, but jumpers and coats...

We stumbled across the Deal Hoy on a side street away from the main drag and thoroughly enjoyed a brief visit. What you don't see from the street is a well-planned backyard with plenty of well-spaced tables and the pizza oven which is a real...

Cute little place but not a lot of choices when it comes to drinks which is a shame and also not all outdoor heaters working and you have to press the button every 10 seconds to keep it on

Here we have a back street pub with a large garden/yard that has installed a wood-fired pizza oven. After a friendly welcome we were shown to a table outside, all very well spaced. The menu is just pizza and a few starters, the pizza delivered...

Nice welcome and service, Shepherd Neame pub beers are getting better as well as choice, I drank Zest which was really fruity but great on a hot day. Went out into the beer garden which was good where have a pizza oven and the pizzas looked really good. This pub has never disappointed

Popped into the Deal Hoy for a lunch time drink. The beer and wine were excellent and good value. The garden was particularly good. Exceptionally clean(not the case in all the pub gardens in Deal), lovely table and chairs, in short a pleasure. Willbe popping...

We'd had this pub recommended to us so decided to try it out. We certainly were not dissappointed. It's a cozy pub in a backstreet but obviously word has spread as it was already pretty busy when we arrived before 7pm on a Friday night....

Found the menu for Pizza in our self catering cottage. So thought we would stroll round and sample one for lunch . A whole of the garden vegetable pizza cooked in the wood burning oven, so good we returned the following weekend for another.

Ok. But Pizza disapointing and undercooked with soggy bottom. Later in the weekend saw publican buying ham offcuts in Rooks. Thats says it all I guess.

Nice place with good food and nice selection of drink choice. They have their own pizza oven outside and pizzas are high quality and tasty. Large outside seating area out the back which is perfect for when the sun is out. Is quite a popular spot and can fill up quite easily.

We came here for a birthday celebration and sat in the beer garden. We were a group of 6 and all ordered pizza and sides. It came out fresh and hot, delicious pizzas which catered for our multiple food allergies/lacto free. Superb! We spoke to the chef who cooks in an authentic outdoor wood fired oven. He makes the sauce and dough from scratch and you can tell. It was a lovely afternoon, off the beaten track but only a few minutes walk to the sea. A nice selection of local beers too, particularly like the Whitstable bay blonde. We will be back!
