Great cozy pub and friendly staff but food let it down. Disappointing Sunday lunch. Potatoes were undercooked and meat overcooked. Measly portion of beef and veg for £27. Shame.

Very disappointing. Firstly, 3 of us got our drinks rather quickly and the other 3 waited for ever. Secondly, ordered various Sunday roasts, 4 beef, 1 pork…..you could barely find the pork on the plate. 1 Lamb…..ran out of mint sauce. Perhaps be honest and let your guest know before ordering what sauces you have available. Manager blaming the previous Manger in the day for running out of everything.

Having come to have lunch with six friends last week, expectations were high but not met. We had been there previously but not for a couple of years. We arrived at 1200 & were not served our starter until 1300. We then had to wait until 1400 for the main course which was not entirely as stated on the menu ( no apology or explanation was given ). We will not be returning.

Our son and his partner took us for Sunday lunch a d when the roast dinners arrived we couldn't believe the poor quality of The food lamb was so tough like leather. Pork was virtually all fat .roast potatoes were barely cooked more like boiled spuds. Gravy like dishwater an d veg rock hard .food came out cold .one of us could eat this slop. Called the manager who bless him understood and agreed we paid for drinks and left .so dissapointed after looking forward to a family meal booked a couple of weeks previously .can't fault the staff bit chefs should be sacked as they have no idea about a traditional Sunday roast

Great interesting menu, the classics but also with a twist. The sunday roast was good, the sourdough bread with miso butter even better. And the sweetcorn bites were a nice surprise! Host welcoming, good service, even managed to squeeze us in on a busy Sunday lunchtime.

We had a couple of small plates for lunch and the quality of the food was excellent although think it fair to comment that the pricing for two scallops was a bit ott; I'd suggest that three scallops on the plate would represent fair value. Service was first class and the draught beer was well kept. Will certainly lunch there again when in the vicinity.

The Queen's Head – A Hidden Gem I recently had the pleasure of attending a food tasting night at The Queen's Head, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that immediately set the tone for the evening. The pub itself has a cozy, charming vibe that makes you feel at home right away—whether you're popping in for a casual drink or, like me, treating yourself to some fantastic food. Speaking of the food—wow! Every dish served during the tasting was an absolute delight. The flavors were fresh and beautifully balanced, with each course showing off the kitchen's creativity and skill. The attention to detail in both the presentation and taste was truly impressive. Whether you're a fan of hearty pub classics or looking to try something a little more gourmet, The Queen's Head does not disappoint. You can tell the team here takes real pride in their menu. The staff were equally outstanding, providing attentive and friendly service throughout the night. They were knowledgeable about the food and clearly passionate about ensuring each guest had a great experience. It's rare to find a place where both the food and the service are top-notch, but The Queen’s Head nails it. The entire evening had a lively, vibrant feel to it, with a buzz of happy diners and a genuinely fun atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy a great meal, knowing you're in capable hands. Whether it's for a special event like the tasting night or just a casual visit, The Queen's Head is one pub that definitely deserves to be on your must-visit list. Highly recommended!

Terrible meal and experience Queens Head in Clandon. I provided feedback on the Red Mist website but never heard back from them re our poor experience on Friday 6 September (booking reference: DMN-16873366822). Learnt that the original Directors had sold the business (no repsonse from the new owners either) Slow service. It was steak night - never seen a steak so small for £25.00! The green pepper sauce was inedible (thick and gloopy). No option of the rib eye available as I fancied the chimichuri (it was steak night). My wife's starter of jumbo prawn cocktail had one large prawn and the rest very small and tasteless. Very poor presentation. The trout main was so small and the whole plate was covered in the yogurt dressing (no room for anything else and poorly presented). My wife dropped an earring - I have never seen such dirty floors when we searched for it. The radiator had food stuff plastered on it. Normally have dessert and coffee but left due to this experience. Absolutely not worth the £110.00 we paid. Looking at the recent reviews you have a serious issues here. I would like my money back please.

The food was average and did not live up to expectations. The service was very slow and overall lacked attention to detail. Two menu items chosen by our group of six were not available but we weren't told before ordering. With one of the starters, we were told it was unavailable only after they'd brought our other starters to the table. We waited nearly 45 minutes after our starters being cleared before they brought our mains, which is too long to wait. My tea was served with a dirty cup. All of the water glasses need replacing as they're all cloudy from the dishwasher. The staff waiting the table asked how everything was and as I started to explain some of the problems with the food they walked off, showing no concern for the customer's opinion. This pub will not improve if they don't stop to listen to feedback. Overall, a very disappointing visit and one to avoid in future.

We used to eat here all the time and then stopped visiting. Returning today reminded us why. Unfortunately, one of the worst meals I’ve eaten for a long time. The mushroom burger was overpowered by sickly sweet chutney and the patty was a lukewarm gloopy mush. Honestly, the worst veggie burger ever. The chicken burger wasn’t any better, nor were the starters. The pub, particularly toilets, were dirty. Overall, very unpleasant and we won’t be back. Such a shame as this was previously one of our favourites, but it has rapidly gone downhill now part of a chain.

Really disappointing Sunday lunch. We arrived at midday and waited forty five minutes for the food to arrive. No vegetarian roast, food came at different times and was cold. It was taken back to be reheated and came back luke warm. We were told by the manger that they were under staffed in the kitchen and given a slight discount. We've been to this pub for years for celebrations and it's been really good, so we are very disappointed and couldn't recommend the Sunday lunch. However the waitress was really good.

We booked a table for 7 on the Sunday of May BH weekend. When we arrived were told the table wasn't quite ready and would we like to order a drink at the bar, we were expecting a 5 to 10 minute wait. We were actually left waiting 45 minutes for our table, no one offered any explanation and when we asked were just told the previous booking were still there. We asked for menus so we could order and eventually had to ask the staff to ask the previous booking to leave - although even then the staff just gave them the bill . They did apologise for the wait and the food and service were fine but not worth waiting 45 minutes for considering we had booked the table a week ago. Would not return again or recommend.

We arrived here by accident on a Friday evening having failed to get a table at the Gomshall Mill (full) and White Horse Shere (closed for food by 8pm). What a stroke of luck! The food was nothing short of spectacular, with many interesting dishes that make a nice change from the usual pub choice and more in line with Guildford's top end restaurants. The spicy Thai pork was delicious, and my wife loved her steak with pepper sauce (which included a glass of red). Service was spot on, well done to all the team at the Queens Head. The pub has changed hands and the new owners haven't got a grip it needs to be put into special measures. The food is bang average smacked to me of cheap ingredients the pub on a January evening relied on an open log fire and central heating off and so it was very cold also the restraunts was grubby and tired not helped by the dust trails clearly visible in the curtains. We will wait for the reviews to improve greatly before we spend another £100 on a 2 two course meals for two which inc a £28 bottle wine. I should say I have previously enjoyed meals here, however I took my mum out for the evening and we were both quite disappointed by the end of the evening. We arrived at 19:30 (I telephoned to let them know we we running late, though Steve at reception was ok to push our booking out by another 30mins, though actually arrived on time and still got our table, so I was very happy with that. Our waiter was lovely and very polite. She served our drinks albeit after around 30 minutes of arriving. My mum doesn’t eat meat, so thankfully the monkfish Thermidor was still available as the only non meat option. We ordered a side of red cabbage as the only veg available not cooked in beef fat. Mum liked the flavour, though there was a full layer of cut carrot at the bottom of her dish and very little monkfish. We pointed this out, but no reaction from the waiter. I had the chicken and ham pie with carrots (cooked in beef fat), though I only one half of a carrot arrived on the plate! We had to wait an hour to get our mains, then another 30mins to get our desserts. Finally, I had to go to the desk to pay our bill as nobody seemed to be around (I noticed another chap doing the same). I asked the person at the desk if they were having difficulties as things were taking much longer than normal. She confirmed saying they were short of staff. I would also say we had a great little table though we were both quite cold as there was no heating in the room. This could have been resolved by lighting the wood burner. I do not understand why such a small thing like this is overlooked. It is a real shame as myself, my wife and our mums have been to Red Mist pubs on many occasions and enjoyed the food and warmth of the places. Since the chain has been taken over by the Grosvenor Group the food and service has gone down bill. I hope this gives food for thought (excuse the pun) to the management to up their game. I will not be returning just yet.

We were with our walking group. My wife and I both ordered the venison cottage pie. It was certainly not the size expected of a main coure - some very small cubes of venison with a potato topping in a small metal bowl accompanied by a piece of cold cabbage, served on a cold plate (how difficult is it for a restaurant to serve hot food on a warm plae?). Other members of the group were also disappointed with their choices.

Award winning? What possible award could that be? Wasn't expecting much being Boxing Day but why establishments bother losing any future custom by operating badly on such days baffles me. The worst afternoon tea experience I have ever had the misfortune of having to sit down to. Afternoon tea is supposed to be a treat (well especially considering the price charged), not a delayed, crammed in experience, where when asked for coffee instead of tea, was told it only came with tea? What?? No spoons even to stir said tea, everyone used end of forks to stir their teas. Very underwhelmed... scones nice, sandwiches ok, cakes (not good at all), never again for me or anyone with any connection to my family at least. Spoilt what was supposed to be a special occasion, lesson learnt. Also any management response comments are meaningless, you have lost custom, no-one cares thereafter unfortunately. Pity I don't have any connections associated to this pub group to give them a hard reality check based on this experience.

What a disappointment. We'd been here a few times for drinks and once for a fantastic breakfast and loved the atmosphere. Tonight we went for a birthday meal. When we asked our Server what pastry the pie used (my dining partner doesn't like suet pastry) the server looked genuinely confused even when we asked if it was puff, shortcrust or suet. If he didn't know he should have at least offered to ask the Chef. He wasn't the sort of person I would hire for a customer facing role, seemed disinterested and lacked confidence. We ordered the burger, mine medium and the other burger well done. Somehow the medium one managed to come out overcooked and but with a bit of pink inside, yet really really dry. I've had better Burger King burgers. The place was dirty too, marks in the carpets, dust over the items on the shelves and lamps, windows that clearly haven't been cleaned for some time. For the amount that food costs here thats unforgivable. I hate to think what the kitchen is like. To cap it all, no one asked if we wanted deserts or coffee or what we thought of our meal. I suspect they wouldn't have liked the answer. Won't be coming back - there are far cheaper pubs with better food we can go to.

A group of us went to the Queen’s Head for our annual get together I decided to select my meal from the a la carte menu, rather than the Festive menu. For my main course I decided on the Seared Flat Iron Steak with herb crusted Portobello mushroom, beersamic dressed watercress, peppercorn sauce and skin on fries £23.95. I couldn’t believe what I was served, the steak appeared to be ok, but not the largest I’d seen, the chips were in a steel cup and resembled KFC chips and the Portobello mushroom appeared to be a slice and not a whole mushroom. I hadn’t ordered the Peppercorn sauce as I don’t like it, however there was no alternative. There was no sign of the watercress, it transpired that they had run out. I queried the lack of food and was told that was the normal serving so I asked for an additional portion of Cauliflower Cheese to go with it and bolster up the meal. I started to eat the meal, it was lukewarm. I pointed this out to the waitress, who apologised and called her supervisor, my meal was replaced as it was well below standard. The new meal was totally different, well cooked, had a complete mushroom, still with KFC chips, they used Rocket to replace the Watercress and it was hot. They also brought out the cauliflower cheese. So although the first plate was absolutely terrible, they did redeem themselves, however they also charged me full price. What worries me though is that if I hadn’t complained about my meal being cold, they would of been quite happy to leave me with the original below standard serving and the additional side dish. I have attached a photo of my original plate, the carrot was given to me by a friend who felt sorry for me. Is that a la carte???

I cannot thank the staff enough for making our Christmas lunch so special. The food could not be faulted and the hygge factor was off the scale. Cosy, inviting, good service and really well cooked food.

Extremely disappointing. Food very average, had to send fish and chips and a burger back. Really, I mean these are the two most popular and easy dishes to cook! Huge lack of communication between staff & manager. Was told manager would come over to talk to us, eventually had to ask again to see the manager. He was very apologetic, but considering our reservation was at 6.00 and by this time it was 8.15 and we only ordered one course each we had had enough. They did adjust the bill, but it was all a big disappointment. Appreciate that it is the festive season but if the kitchen can’t cope with the numbers, then there is a serious on going problem. Also check your bill carefully!

Nineteen of us for an eightieth birthday celebration, everything went very well, the food was great and the service efficient. The manager Steve was particularly helpful with advice and his personal attention. Would thoroughly recommend.

Starters and main courses arrived at the same time. Standard of starters adequate but nothing special. Main course tiger prawn Thai curry was a few bulk buy low quality prawns lost in a bowl of sauce. Manager was called. Poor handling of complaint. Matcha latte served luke warm. Serving staff very pleasant although inexperienced. Won't be rushing back or recommending.

Judging by what others were eating this lovely venue should stick to lunch and dinner only. The afternoon tea which was a gift was way below my expectation the tea was weak with only one teabag and not boiling. The sandwiches delicious but not great variety. The pre-made cakes were not all fresh and the scone definitely not fresh they were cut and warmed to make them seem fresh so tasted fine but was crunchy on the outside like a biscuit

We went to celebrate my birthday with my son and partner as we have seen it recommend a number of times. Sadly, we possibly caught them on an off day. We ordered the starters, prawn cocktail for me which arrived with no bread and a soup for my son which was in a tiny jug and also had no bread. I suppose we could of asked but felt this was obviously the way they served them. The mains arrived all roast dinners. There was no mint jelly with the lamb and no apple sauce for the pork. There was only enough roast potatoes for 3 each and most of them were small. We had also asked for the complimentary extra roast but they never arrived. We then had dessert which was fine. The service was okay but we had to keep asking for different things that should of been included even having to obtain salt and pepper. I think we will give it another chance but maybe not on a Sunday.

After many enjoyable visits this was a disappointing experience. We're a table of 2 in a room with another 2 and a table of approx 14 ! - far too many for the room size- We could barely hold a conversation. Food not very hot, and lamb rather tough. Service slow, but poor girl was run off her feet. We won't be visiting for Sunday lunch again

Went there first time Tuesday, staff friendly and helpful and food very good - best fish pie I can remember. On the strength of that went today for Sunday lunch - very disappointed. Despite being first there, the food was lukewarm, limited choice of veg, packet crackling, tough skinned potatoes ( very good yorkshires), etc. Atmosphere and staff very good but the biggest hit was the cost of the drinks both times, way above my local, which is not cheap. Reluctant to repeat.

Absolutely shocking…been here plenty of times before and never been an issue..arrived to an empty pub and sat down to order lunch to be told by one of the owners that they won’t be serving us…we asked why and was told as they don’t want to…no wonder the pub is down hill when they get clowns to run them. Never in my life will I ever recommend them or give them a penny

Really friendly welcome. Kitchen and cafe area were very clean. The garden extremely tidy, must be great for a spot to sit outside on the way to your summer holiday destination. Food was excellent. Very fresh, not greasy at all. The toilets for the most part were clean except no toilet seats in either of the gent’s cubicles. If you use sat nav with postcode to find, be careful not to drive past as it will take you 100m past the cafe.
