The Packhorse Inn in Sedgemoor

Haven’t been here for Sunday lunch for a long time, normally visit in the evenings. After today I have a feeling we will be back soon. Booked ahead , a choice of three starters , three roasts (beef, turkey, lamb) plus a veggie option. We had prawn cocktail to start , good portion size, don’t eat all the bread otherwise you won’t have room for the main course! Beef and lamb were our choices for main course, lovely crisp veg and very cheesy cauliflower cheese. Plenty of meat and delicious gravy . We really enjoyed our lunch , thank you Sophie, Stella , Pete and Evonne it’s always a pleasure.

I had always want to go try the food I deliver kindling to pubs in Somerset and always look at menus as I worked on cruise ships for 25yrars it was top off my 50pubs in Somerset to try and it did not disappoint the cleanliness ambiance faultless staff warm cosy both fires on I had prawn cocktail excellent then I had sea bass partner had salmon and we even got fish knives then a chock cheesecake between two that even split it before bringing out been down in Somerset 7 years and nothing comes close it would have to be very very special to beat this Peter j campbell (jock)

Just superb. A great place for a family gathering with good quality, tasty and reasonably-priced pub food. Also, really nice service. This sort of pub is more of a rarity nowadays with some places becoming too gentrified. Would love to return to sample more tatty offerings! The Packhorse should be high on everyone’s places to eat. A shame we don’t live a bit closer!

Our family went for a birthday celebration dinner. The staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble, so attentive and polite and helpful with the menu choices. The food was all beautifully cooked, hot and well presented. All homemade, including the bread and sorbet . Locally sourced produce which looked really fresh. I would not hesitate to recommend eating here. We plan to return. The prices were good for the quality and quantity of the meals we chose. The atmosphere was very relaxing too with no time constraints or pressure on us to hurry our meal. A lovely memorable evening meal.

Visited for Sunday lunch. The pub ambience and welcome from the owners was excellent. Sunday lunch was served, fresh, hot, tasty and with a great selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. Dessert too was lovely, with a wonderful sponge pudding which made my wife's day and was as good as 'nan used to make'

Great village pub with friendly service. Food was spot on and served promptly. We called in on the off chance and so glad we did.

Welcomed like a family member. Guven the dining hall at back as completely packed. Then 5 mins later offered to have a table that had come free near a roaring fire. Given information on places to go locally. The food was fantastic value and plentiful. I had the most tastiest soup ever accompanied by a hot bread roll. My husbands steak cooked to perfection and daughters chicken was moist. To top it off the Ginger pud was so tasty with piping hot custard, a first!. A real family affair with the lovely Sophie front of house her brother the amazingly talented chef and nephew with perfect customer service on bar duty.

I was staying in the area and required an evening meal and the first Pub I found was the White Horse which was almost empty at about 18:00. They said that I couldn't eat there because they were fully booked. I then found the Packhorse Inn which did look rather busy. When I asked the staff at the Bar if it was possible to eat there they said that we're fully booked inside near the bar area but offered me a table in another part of the Pub where I had a great meal before moving back to the Bar for some good Ales.

Compelled to review with thanks our experience at The Packhorse Inn following a wonderful lunch party with family meeting up before Christmas from across the world! Not only was the local ale and food most excellent in taste and quantity, but access to the more private dining lounge a real unexpected treat! Hil Nickell

It is some time since we last visited. The Pub is a country pub very welcoming and nicely decked out for Christmas. The Staff were friendly and professional. A lovely log fire was burning. The meals were excellent and filling so nice to visit a traditional pub for a booked lunch. Hope to visit again.

A group of 8 visited on Sunday. We were staying in the area for a weekend away. The Sunday lunch was amazing, you get cauliflower cheese as standard which is great and great service. They even gave us some milk to take back with us as we had run out and the shops were all shut. So we all had a nice cup of coffee and tea. Would highly recommend.

Visited one weekday lunchtime. Great friendly service, food was delicious, as we're the tea and latte we had. My elderly mother can't eat larger meals so she opted for children's meal of chicken nuggets and fries, she thoroughly enjoyed them. I had children's meal of fish goujons and they were perfect. Both meals just the right portion size for a smaller appetite, as it left some room for the delicious desserts!

If only all pubs were like The Packhorse Inn. A welcoming bar area, good drinks selection, delicious home cooked food, friendly staff and a warming fire crackling away. Absolutely spot on.

Booked a Sunday lunch and we’re not disappointed. A choice of three roasts: beef, turkey or lamb. We opted for the turkey with all the trimmings, plus a Yorkshire pudding thrown in (!) as not part of the turkey option. The meal was excellent: flavoursome meat, well cooked vegetables (not overdone) and flowery roast potatoes with a crisp coat, all in a well made gravy - albeit slightly singed Yorkshire pudding - but forgivable. The only thing we would have welcomed would have been a bigger plate to better handle the generous amount of food!A good choice of puddings, and can recommend the treacle pudding - light and soft with a generous amount of custard. Add in very good service and you can see why the pub has bounced back after COVID.The only difficulty is parking, with only a limited number of spaces outside the pub - albeit parking along the road is possible but not ideal.

We have just had the best Sunday lunch ever. As always a lovely homely feel and greeting when you walk in. We had the home made soup with a hot roll then Roast Turkey which was the best we have ever tasted. If I could have forced the Dime Bar Cheesecake in I would have but we were both absolutely full. My family have been visiting here for years, however its the first time for me in a long time. We booked a table some weeks before for my mum's surprise birthday meal as its one of her favourites. From the time of booking and pre ordering our meal for 16 it was an absolute pleasure.The team were thoughtful, efficient and friendly. The food was faultless. Its not often I leave reviews, but The Pack Horse thoroughly deserves the 5 star rating. Thank you and so looking forward to visiting again.

Reserved a table for dinner on the first evening of a three night stay in the area (9th Sept), choosing The Packhorse Inn based on its consistently excellent reviews. What a good choice that proved to be! We both had the steak and ale pie followed by two different sweets, all proving to be excellent and very generous in portion size. All was so good that we booked for the two further evenings, thereby enjoying the salmon, lasagne and curry mains,together with two other sweets. On all three occasions the service from all staff was extremely welcoming and totally professional. Service was quick without being hurried, being perfectly happy to give us a requested 10 minute break between courses. Pricing was also very reasonable, so if we return to the area, this will most certainly be our selected eating haunt. It shows what can be achieved by a good family-run establishment with over 20 years in operation. Well done and thanks for three lovely meals in such a pleasant environment!

We have driven passed this pub a few times and thought it looked okay, offering home cooked food, so when looking for somewhere to go for our wedding anniversary we booked a table for the 12th September, our first mistake was not to check what was on the menu, turned out to be only roast, we ordered a pate, soup and two roast Lambs, the pate in a small pot with some white sliced toast, the soup with a warm brown roll, what I could not understand is why you would serve one nice roll and the other with sliced white bread, as soon as plates cleared away meal put down Lamb (£14.99) very pale with no taste, with roast potatoes that had possibly been in fat fryer or cooked in a lot of oil,cauliflower cheese very wet white sauce with cheese on top, small amount of vegetables to share. Up until then everything happed very fast, we waited 15 minutes and as no one came to see if we required anything else my husband went to pay the bill, in and out in under an hour!! when I asked the price he said over £55 which was a surprise as only had one drink each. When we got home he rung up to understand the bill having deducted the food drinks must have been over £10. He also told them he was disappointed with the meal, the reply was sorry to hear that. Needless to say we will not be recommending this pub.

We had Sunday Lunch to celebrate our 35 wedding anniversary. The roast lamb was over priced at £14.99 and the meat was not up standard for that price. The meat was pale thinly sliced and insipid, and swimming in a thin gravy. We could not recommend this restaurant, The experience left us truly disappointed.

The Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and went that extra mile. The service was quick, the food delicious.
