Sometimes everything is perfect and this was one of those times. We booked to stay overnight with another couple to celebrate birthdays. All the staff worked as a brilliant team. From check in to our lovely rooms (where every detail was superb) to the busy but very efficient bar, and then to a really good meal in the restaurant. Faultless throughout.

Had Sunday lunch here. Food was reasonably good - not enough gravy though! But the service was awful. We didn't appear to have a designated waitress for our table, and most of the time neither of them were even in the room. Both waitresses kept us waiting for ages and were offhand in their manner when they finally came over. One was particularly unpleasant and made a passive aggressive comment towards me. The poor service spoilt the whole experience and I certainly won't return.

I enjoyed the venison dish, and the dark chocolate and orange mousse was excellent. Service (mainly Carys) was polite and unobtrusive. She promptly reported those components of my wife's chosen dish which contained the allergens we had mentioned at booking, and offered a variety of substitutes. The disappointment for us (though I assume it's a tribute to the kitchen's efficiency) was that there were no spare ingredients (e.g. butternut squash) which had not already been prepared using at least one of those allergens.

Very tasty food, pleasant staff, nice ale. They waived the service charge without me asking because they felt they hadn’t been able to give us enough attention. Nice attitude.

Good food as always, but…the menu doesn’t highlight vegetarian options accurately. I queried a pizza with rocket pesto (vegetarian hard cheese as opposed to parmesan) - the waitress had to check then returned confirming the presence of parmesan. I then commented that in that case it wasn’t vegetarian. There was also a starter with burrata that had a ‘v’ next to it but I have yet to find a vegetarian version of this cheese.

Having previously in the past gone regularly for breakfast on their terrace attached to the restaurant, we decided to take our 94 relative for a Sunday lunch, which we hoped would be a special treat. When booking we were told that if it was a nice day we could sit on the terrace and as it was we decided to do so. The person we took likes to be independent but is also frail so is restricted in terms of getting around. She decided that she would like to treat us and do the ordering etc. herself, which is really good for her to do. However, once we were seated on the terrace, literally just through the french doors of the restaurant, we were told because we were on the terrace there would be no table service and we had to go through the restaurant to the bar to place our order, which was impossible for our elderly relative to do. She was also told that because we were just through the door of the restaurant on the terrace that we would also need to pay in advance, again thus upset our elderly cousin as she thought we also might want a dessert or something after the lunch. In view of this I went and asked one of the young waitresses, if, in view if the circumstances, an exception could be made. She went to ask her manager and came back and said that was their policy and no exceptions could be nade. I then went to speak to the person who said she was the manager, and my request was treated with, what appeared to be, no understanding for our situation and she refused to show or offer any flexibility. I then asked to speak to the actual hotel manager, something she then, I think, wrongly, claimed to be. This whole experience ruined our meal and rather than having a planned relaxing and enjoyable lunch, we had quite the opposite. I can quite understand that restaurants / hotels have policies for a reason, but there also needs to be flexibility within any system. As people who have been reasonably regular customers, we have previously sat on the terrace and had table service and a bill at the end of our meal so obviously expected that it would also happen on this occasion. In the end I set off to place the order at the bar, but one of the waitresses then ironically said she could take the order at a computer base literally just inside the french doors leading to the terrace where we were - no more than 8 metres from where we were sitting. When we had finished our main meal despite there apparently being no table service, a waitress came and asked if we wanted to order a dessert; yet another example of inconsistency. As said, our experience was ruined by the negative and unfriendly attitude of the woman who said she was in charge. If we hadn't have had an elderly relative with us we would have left and gone to the other hotel in the village whose staff usually go out their way to be helpful. 8 should add that the two young waitresses, unlike their manager, were friendly and trying to be helpful.

Met friends for dinner at a central location from where we live and they were staying so didn’t know the venue. Very happy we found The Swan as the food and ambiance was excellent. High quality produce and skill involved in the production of the dishes. The Pork Rib-eye was exceptional. The wife wasn’t asked / forgot to say her cuisson for her Flat Iron steak and it arrived well done, but it was quickly changed for a rare Sirloin at no extra charge and no fuss, overall great service. Nice to find somewhere with high quality food at sensible prices. Great venue, well done to all involved!

Called in on spec for early evening meal. Don't be dissuaded by the exterior this is a really good hotel/pub.The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The menu choices perhaps a little small, but quality of food is superb. I had the haddock and chips, one of the best pieces of fish I've had in a long time. Good pint of Guiness too, also dog friendly in the large bar area.

We had lunch at the Swan with my relatives from America this had to be one of the worst meats I have ever had I was so ashamed it ruined what was supposed to be a special day out. The chef was not fit for purpose and on top of the bill was a 10% surcharge that they did not deserve. My advise is not to eat at the Swan.

Very smart and beautiful place. Lovely interior. There’s money in Wedmore. Interesting menu featuring usual pub dishes and more imaginative ones alongside pizzas made in their pizza oven , in an open plan area near the bar. All the dishes we ordered were very well cooked . The pizzas were outstanding. A good thing is that the tables aren’t too close together. It’s more of a restaurant than a pub , like so many places these days , but you could have just a drink or two very easily and you’d feel very much at home. The service was good.

Restaurant area completely dominated by "new pizza oven" . It would look more at home in a nuclear power station. Service was slow waited over 20 mins for main course plates to be cleared ! No attention to detail. Food not as good as previous visits, more OK than good. Atmosphere completely spoiled by geriatric teenagers playing with their mobile devices. Ping ping bloody pong. Will not return in the foreseeable future which is a shame as its our nearest pub to home.

Chose to stay at The Swan after finding them on muddy stilettos, and following on instagram for a while. The bar and restaurant has a lovely boutique style to it, and the staff were very nice, however we walked away feeling very disappointed after our stay. We informed the hotel that we were bringing two dogs, and most places we go to always put a small touch in the room, whether that is treats, dog bed, or a bowl. Guests would really appreciate this if you were to do this. We had dinner that evening, ordering the focaccia, burger and the braised chicory. The burger were very average, and my vegetarian dish was literally two halves of chicory in a bed of tomato sauce, not even sure where the black quinoa was, or if it had been left out. For an AA rosette restaurant, I had high expectations, but this was very bland and quite the opposite. We had issues with the room and the radiator not turning off, which was not good for the dogs or us. We ended up having to change rooms at 10:30pm as the wide open windows and fan in the room wasn’t helping. When it came to check out, we were presented a dog ‘goody bag’ to say ‘sorry’. There was a tag on the bag saying ‘enjoy your stay’, which I’m assuming may have been what was meant to be in the room at the start of the stay, so this was more of a kick in the teeth. Eventually they did deduct our drinks and the dog charge off the bill. They sent us our invoice as an attachment to a email with no wording to apologize, or explain what they had done with the bill. All in all we did not have an enjoyable stay, and would have had a nicer time staying at home without spending over £200.

So, being a local girl, I thought I'd book Sunday lunch as a surprise for my husband because he always works so hard. What a shame and total waste of money it turned out to be! As soon as we entered (poor signage for the bar/restaurant area) we noticed a rather sullen looking waitress, this annoys me because I AM PAYING 10% ON TOP OF YOUR WAGES! YOU COULD AT LEAST LOOK LIKE YOU ENJOY YOUR WORK! Of course, she had to be 'our waitress', not that we saw much of her or any other staff when it came down to it... We wonder if you train them to pretend that no one is in their peripheral vision? FOOD My husband chose the porchetta to start with, it looked very nice, tasty and worth the price, £10.50 I think. Finally our main course (an hour after our booked time) arrived ( £21 each) ... What a disappointment! Where were the lovely roasties, beef, chicken and pork belly? Well, I can tell you now... The roast potatoes hadn't even been parboiled properly, never mind seasoned or even roasted, I sent those back immediately and the waitress appeared a short time later with some more, they were at least slightly roasted but totally bland. The meat: Beef: very thin 1/2 slice of stringy beef. Pork belly: Overdone, yet top soft with too many herbs giving an odd taste. Chicken: OMG, I'm glad they said it was free range because they must have only slaughtered one to feed the whole restaurant, barely half a thin slice from the smallest part of the bird. Underneath was meant to be seasoned red cabbage and pureed celeriac, the cabbage was totally over seasoned and over cooked whilst the celeriac was ok. I don't know what apples they used to make their apple sauce but it was a rather dark toffee coloured concoction. Had I made it, I would have made another batch. The Yorkshire pud, was ok. But, by the time we finally got asked how our meal was, which didn't actually happen at all, we had to try and glare at any staff that were bring food out or clearing tables to get some attention, all we wanted was some more of the thin, tasteless gravy to mop up the overcooked meal... our food was cold by the time we were finally able to ask for more and it arrived. Drinks: My husband had a bottle of lager and I had a non alcoholic drink, even though the staff pushed for me to have a gin I knew what I wanted and it wasn't gin, with or without alcohol! In short, our waitress said the manager had given me (only me) 50% off the price of my main course, which was a bit of a joke considering how both of us felt about our meals plus, I certainly didn't want to 'make a fuss' in front of other diners etc. We won't go back and we are telling our local friends who haven't visited The Swan in years like us. It was actually far better when it was the local, spit and sawdust pub of 40 + years ago. Now I would describe it as All fur coat and no knickers!! In short, our entire 'treat' was a waste of time and money and both of us left feeling in bad moods at all the things we were unhappy about!!

We've visited The Swan for a Sunday evening meal on numerous occasions. Today the restaurant was extremely dark (a new massive pizza oven has taken up part of the restaurant so some of the lighting seems to have been removed). The triple roast wasn't up to the usual standard but was OK, the service though was terrible. Apparently they no longer come back to check all's OK (company policy they say) but we sat with empty plates for probably half an hour and didn't see a sign of any wait staff. Add to that the couple at the next table were having a very long text conversation with a phone pinging every few seconds. The ambiance of the restaurant has changed - a modern pizza oven overpowering a traditionally styled restaurant. The meal was a pre-60th birthday dinner for my husband. We gave up waiting to be offered pud and just paid and left. Very disappointed. 60th birthdays only come round once and we chose this restaurant because of previous visits. Will think twice about another Sunday visit, shame because it's local.

We haven't been to The Swan for several years and we're surprised to see a pub menu (pizza's, burgers, fish and chips etc) rather than the higher end restaurant menu. I guess it is what sells... Food was OK. Service was great in parts. Really went out of their way to protect our gluten free guest. Including giving him a different colour glass to ensure he wasn't contaminated. No where to hang coats - it was wet outside and we asked a staff member and he didn't know.... eventually, someone took our coats. The whole place, including the bar, seemed to be locking up at 9.30. We were definitely made to feel we had overstayed our welcome. We felt there should be someone on the floor with experience it just seemed like too many new or un trained staff.

Rip off Britain is alive and well! After months of illness decided to have a treat with a meal in the pub. We were charged £10.80 for a medium glass of Pino Grigio, we checked and was told that was the price, really?? Also beware of the pricing policy, they don't include VAT, so the price on the menu isn't what you pay. Only reason I can think of doing this is to pull the wool over the eyes of customers to the end price and make it look less expensive than it really is. Imagine going into a coffee shop and seeing price of coffee, then finding out you have to pay more!!. It is in the small print, another typical sign they want to rip off customers. No wonder the place was nearly empty by 8pm. My advice don't go there! Marred what was to be a pleasant evening.

We visited for lunch on New Year's Day to celebrate a family birthday. We were welcomed warmly and the atmosphere was very convivial. From that point on things slid downhill. The portions looked mean and the food was not cooked well. For starters, my brother and I ordered the monkfish scampi which consisted of four diddy pieces of chewy monkfish (not all the membrane had been removed) in a hard batter. They tasted as if they'd been sitting an hour under warming lamps. The others ordered baked camembert the like of which I've never seen before. For £10, they were served half a small cheese standing upright which was sizzling on top and cold inside. It appeared to have been grilled under a salamander rather than baked in the oven. I ordered my main course from the specials, a 'chargrilled ribeye of pork'. I wasn't sure what I got. It looked like a 1 inch thick slice of rolled pork. It was dry and lacked any chargrilled flavour. The roast potatoes were at least a day old and were leathery and difficult to cut and eat. Christmas leftovers? I hope not. I wish the circumstances had allowed me to take photos. Not once did our waiters ask if we were enjoying our food. Neither did they enquire when they cleared. My family isn't used to complaining about food or service and as I was a guest, I felt obliged to hold my tongue. Had I been paying for my meal, I would have had no hesitation in commenting on the starter or sending my pork back. This place is expensive and has a pretty good reputation locally hence our disappointment. The website talks of the high quality, locally sourced ingredients; I've no reason to doubt the provenance and quality but have to ask, 'What happened in the kitchen?' I work in the business and know well how tight margins can be. I hate to write reviews like this knowing that they can effect someone's livlihood but the kitchen and the hotel's patrons deserve better than what we were served. Maybe the restaurant was just having a bad day. If so, it can't afford too many more.

As a local resident I have eaten at Swan over some years, usually once a week sometimes for a business lunch or dinner. The lunch menu and dinner menu are similar, prices are consistent with restaurant prices and the food is consistent with bar meals. The choice which was excellent offering options for a light low calorie lunch is now limited to options with large quantities of chips and bread. I voiced my observations to the manager and instead of taking this on board as genuine feed back I was made to feel that I was just complaining and lowering the moral of the staff! She said that other clients were more than happy with the service, menu and prices. These were previously good which is why I have continued to use the Swan, however certainly these issues and my constructive feed back should be acknowledged.

Then the next mornings breakfast was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and efficient. We're planning on using the Stay Original chain for a summer cycling trip!

I have lived locally to this pub for nearly 7 years, and each year it gets worse and worse. I feel sorry for the people who pay so much money to come and visit the hotel and it is just not worth the money. EVERYTHING is over priced they up the prices on even the most basic things - A bowl of cereal, A pint of coke costs £4! A small, and i really mean small, Portion of chips is £4, if you go to some fish and chip shops you can get better chips, a better size for half that price!I am so disappointed in the managers too, they lack professionalism and by the seems, Basic hygiene, always coughing and looking i’ll ! Yes the food can sometimes be good but it’s really not worth the back breaking prices. I generally feel sorry for people who drive through the village just looking for a pint and are met with the snobby staff members who take pride in the prices they charge and how they take the p*** with their portion sizes and the amount of ice put in their drink, charge less if the glass is half full and full with ice . I have watched this go on for too many years and it makes me wonder how people like stay original are still in business. But then i realise it’s just greed. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone i know it’s for a certain type of niche and i don’t want to see people waste their money in there when you can get better else where. Favouritism from certain staff members to the people with bigger pockets doesn’t go un noticed and neither does their fakeness, And that is not just me saying that i have heard that from a lot of people. I am just truly dissatisfied and disappointed in what the swan has become, A few years ago back when the boys worked there it looked like the staff enjoyed being there and it looked like they had something nice which made our experience better. But once they left the others started to follow as it just became sour.

We have been wanting to come here for years, but never got around to it.On Sunday after Christmas, we wanted something to eat, and dog friendly. Our normal places were closed, but The Swan was open, and had tables available forSunday Roast only, which was ideal, and took dogs, too!We arrived to find car park packed solid, but found a space. On entering we find this lovely old building with wooden floors, and a lovely outsidearea, which would be great in the summer. We were taken to our table, after saying our name, and shortly after given menus. We ordered the beef, and had the extra cost cauliflower cheese, and veg. While we were waiting I ordered drinks at the bar, and loved the fact they had the harder to find brands.I love German beer, and they had a German beer which I had not had before, which was amazing. Our meals arrived with a decent amount on the plate, and tasted great, too.For dessert I had two, Christmas pudding, and another pudding. The Christmas pudding was small & mostly seeds, and not what I call Christmas pudding which is rich with fruit & nuts. The other pudding was ok, but nothing special, and should be for £8.00 each, like Ihave paid at Clavelshay Barn!I have had amazing puddings made by a qualified chef, who is now Head Chef atThe Castle, in Taunton. When we got the bill, it was over £90, and then they want another 10% discretionary charge on top, making it nearly £100!!!We don't normally pay the extra, but did this time, due to the friendly, efficient staff. Our local Crossways pub, at West Huntspill, which has been Somerset CAMRA pubin Somerset, does a lovely Sunday Lunch, and even with extra veg, several desserts, expensive canned beer, etc, cost's less than £70!We do like The Swan, but not as a regular go to restaurant.

The Swan made us extremely welcome from the moment we arrived. Arriving before check-in time we headed to the bar, however we were immediately told our room was ready. A beautiful large room with a huge bathroom (no shower, but it tells you that when booking). The downside for me was this room had no view at all. The window looked out a flat roof and wall (part of the old inn, not a random wall) and the bathroom window looked out on a roof. We also discovered the kitchen vents were outside our window in the morning when it started up quite early and could hear the staff. We are deep sleepers though so none of this detracted from our stay. Just to be aware of if you want to discuss your room choice in advance. The bar is large and welcoming with an open flame gas fire and a wood burner at opposite ends to keep it cosy. We also had dinner. The starters were a bit restricted for our taste but the mains and desserts had an excellent range. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Really tasty we enjoyed every mouthful. Breakfast was amazing. Nothing is too much bother and if you can eat all they have to offer, you are better than us. Once again the service and welcome were first class. The only disappointment for us was we had really wanted to stay two nights but could only get booked for the one. We were even more disappointed once we had experienced our stay that we had to leave too soon. The village itself has gorgeous shops, much to my husbands despair, we loved wandering and particularly enjoyed the gallery next door. My house is looking gorgeous as a result. He in return, enjoyed visiting the local cider makers. Wilkins Cider is a must if you are in the area traditional cider as it should be, as is Heck’s Cider a bit further away.

The Swan in darkness it looks amazing. Inside the decor was really nice. Checking in went just about OK, having to enter the restaurant marked "Reception" there was nobody there. My wife asked the most senior looking member of staff can she check-in, and was greeted with "could none of the other staff have helped you". After finally exchanging details we got our key, followed by a short brief which included "theres no staff on site at night so if you go out without a key, you won't be able to get back in..." - nice and warm then. We went to bed early'ish (9pm) to watch TV, expecting a comfy few hours. The bed however was completely "shot". The mattress had sunk both sides, was lumpy and you could feel the base clearly through both sides. The pillows were equally as lumpy/cheap. I went down stairs to mention this to senior member of staff. She followed my up, had a bounce, and said "feels like my mattress at home". We were offered a free "upgrade" to a larger room (more like it was the only room left), so we took a look. The bed was also sunk both sides also with a high ridge in the middle and at both edges, and a quick sit confirmed it had seen better days also. We stayed with what we had, hoping to speak to somebody in the morning. We heard from our ever-so-welcoming staff member that "thats fine with me, I have a few days off tomorrow, so somebody else can sort the issue in the morning".... The young member of staff in the morning said nothing, and likely wasn't aware.

The decor and ambience is lovely. The varied menu is full of temptations. On two visits (we had to go again!) we had the flat iron chicken, shoulder of lamb and steak. All were excellent. The prices reflect the quality and ambition, with several mains over £20 and starters at £7.50 to £9. But we felt that it was worth the money. The wine list was good too, with a couple of good bitters too. (The Otter Ale hit the mark.) Worth booking as we struggled and had one booking at 6.45pm and one at 8pm, with no availability in-between.

Two of us went to the swan for a celebratory meal. I had the vegan quinoa followed by the vegan set custard. Best vegan meal I've had in a long time. The quinoa might have benefitted from a salad but it was absolutely delicious. The custard also very tasty. My brother had the chicken followed by the financier and this was also very tasty although he'd have like a vegetable to go with it. It was well priced for the quality of the food

We live in Wedmore and use the Swan regularly so we know it well. We like the ambience, and the fact that they have better wine than the average pub. The food is also very competent and we like to eat there. But there is one problem with the meals and the menu. There are simply not enough vegetables on offer to complement the main courses. The limited list of sides on the menu needs to be expanded with a couple of simple green vegetables, and a straightforward side salad. It would really help the balance of the meals. One other niggle: they have succumbed to the silly fashion of using brioche buns for their burgers. These are too sweet and rich for the job. It just jars with the tastes inside the burger. A burger works best with a conventional savoury bun ( doesn’t absolutely have to have sesame seeds but nice if it did!). At least give the customer the choice of bun? But we will still keep using the Swan come what may because it’s good to have a decent pub in your own village.

Good but couple of little issues that could spoil your stay if not aware, the hotel is lovely bar and restaurant food is excellent we stayed for two nights and enjoyed a great meal in the restaurant and breakfast served in the bar all great quality. The issues are no shower only a bath?? In 2021 … and the sound proofing in the rooms although apparently better than before you can here the bar and restaurant until they close at gone 11pm

We booked a table for eight people on Saturday. The Swan has a great atmosphere and we enjoy taking visitors there who are visiting our village. The prices and descriptions on the menu have no relation to what we received. I had Falafel Ciabatta, which was dry.and bland. I expect food to be at least the same, if not better than meals I cook myself Most people described what they had, at best average. The staff were courteous. A special mention to the young lady who brought the birthday cake. We will unfortunately be travelling outside the village in future when we have guests.

Really nice pub with rooms we had one night there on 27th July. The room was clean and comfortable, the food was good, they sold decent beer. The stay was highlighted by one young lady, not sure if she was a manager but after checking us in she was serving behind the bar. In the evening she was serving dinner all with a friendly smile. The next day she was on breakfast duty, even with the previous days late shift her presence at breakfast was so bubbly and professional, lovely young lady and nice place. Would definitely stay again and recommend. Well done.

I had lunch here today with my wife and I was very impressed. Beautifully presented food, certainly at the level of a decent restaurant, and sensibly-sized portions. The dining room was light and airy (though rather warm but we are in the middle of a heatwave) and the atmosphere was just right. Perhaps a little background music might be considered? The staff were friendly and the welcome was a warm one.I thought that the £70.00 bill represented very fair value, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Swan.

This is a lovely restaurant in the quaintest of villages. The Sunday menu is all about the traditional Sunday roast and it truly delivers with the vegetarian option being equally as enticing as the meat ones. A really good take on modern English with great service.

We had a 2 night stay and stayed in the largest room at front of the hotel. It was very noisy throughout the night and as the window would not open properly, very hot. They did supply a fan which helped. Lots of car doors banging in early hours - think staff! The first night the food in the restuarant was execellent but the second night, Sunday, it was terrible. (4th July) As was the waiting staff, who did not even come to see if my husband wanted another drink, which he did. Sad, as we were so full of praise for the Saturday night meal, which was cooked by the exec chef (the breakfast waitress told us) maybe was the cleaner tonight! My husband had a 3 Roast meal at £20 and the yorkshire was raw inside - the vegetables were limp and tasteless. I asked the waiter if I could have a starter but as a main portion. The night before they said nothing was too much trouble. He said no. it's too difficult! ( to do 2 courgettes instead of one?) Feeling a bit sad as we had a fantastic meal the night before and the staff could not do enough for us....what a difference a day makes...

First outing for 3 friends since last year so high expectations.Despite being a lovely day we opted to sit inside as we had lots to catch up on. Service was excellent and the food was gorgeous and tasty.Vegan and vegetarian dishes on offer alongside fish and meat options..Two of us had the flat iron chicken and 1 dover sole. The chicken was tender and well seasoned and a delight to eat and there was nothing but a few bones left on the plate of the dover sole eater!Staff were very good , polite and helpful but not of the hovering type.Altogether a very enjoyable experience.

The place felt a little tired. Food is not cheap and quite average to poor. My girlfriend had the fish for £21 which was fine. I had a roast for £16, some of which was cold and was bland. For the price you’d expect everything to be of a much higher standard.Staff were very friendly. It was a Sunday evening service and I feel like we might have caught them at the end of a long weekend.

I came to this place rather excited as it looked as a nice gastro pub. COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT! Poor food quality and shoddy service with children doing the rounds. Wasted night and regretful experience. Poir products used as well. Don't waste your time here. It is just a normal pub with dubious cleanliness. My glass was stuck on the table that wabbled the whole time.

After months and months of not going out and being in our 'bubble' of home life and home cooked meals, lunch out at The Swan was utterly delicious!Sadly the weather was a little chilly & soggy the day we visited, so the sheepskin rugs and blankets, log burner and overhead heaters were a welcome treat.Service is attentive and nothing is too much trouble, & all Covid precautions are in place.Food is excellent! Really tasty, fresh, locally sourced and considered. Whilst this may not be the cheapest of places for lunch, the quality of produce is very apparent & totally appreciated. Support local, help out the hospitality industry and certainly look at booking The Swan, as you will not be disappointed!

This use to be our date night restaurant - good food (pork belly to travel miles for, when available), nice atmosphere, friendly service - and we couldn't wait to return when permitted. The food is just as good, but the prices seem to be hiked. £22 for two pieces of lamb, each the size of your thumb, is not good value, even though it was beautifully cooked. And a side of chips in a ramekin for £4? I'm all for sharing the cost of Covid, but not paying for it entirely!

I can understand the mixed recent reviews for The Swan specifically with regards to Covid. However, I would say that we had a pleasant time there. To begin with, there's a one-way system in place for entering and exiting the building. Hand sanitiser was pumped into our hands upon arrival by a member of staff and the tables were very well spaced a part with screens in between them. The doors and windows were opened to allow in fresh air. The staff weren't wearing masks, which I would have preferred, but we still felt that they operated in a safe manner. With regards to the food, the service was friendly and quick, the food portions very good and delicious. It was well priced and we didn't have many complains about the food.

We visited the Swan twice during a week long stay in Wedmore, and compared with other restaurants we visited, they certainly tried to implement COVID19 regulations, regularly cleaning tables, asking diners to remove drinks and cutlery from trays etc. However, the staff didn't seem that bothered by the idea of wearing a mask, or not congregating together, other diners wandered around freely without masks (we were the only ones who arrived actually wearing masks!) and that felt a bit odd.The food itself was really excellent - fantastic crab starter and lovely rib eye steaks were well received - and although more expensive than other places we visited, was certainly worth the additional expense. However, I couldn't help feeling that there wasn't enough focus on health and safety - dull but vital in today's climate.

Service and welcome very pleasant but the main course and (cold) sweet were SO slow in arriving that we went home for coffee. ...other folk did seem to be served much more quickly than us. The food was nice but pricey. (Wedmore prices??)The tables were really unpleasantly 'sticky' to the touch; maybe it was the anti Covid disinfectant? If you are coming here for the food, it's really excellent. If you are concerned about COVID... well that's a different story. We dined at a different local pub/restaurant the night before where the food was very mediocre but the COVID safety was excellent. Dining at The Swan was the mirror image of that experience. The food was served quickly after ordering, and it was some of the best we've had in a very long time - compliments to the chef. However it did feel somewhat like the restaurant had done not a lot more than the minimum to comply with requirements to reopen. No contact details taken, nor any sign of a track & trace system. None of the servers wore a mask, and you could see them gathering very close together in small groups, chatting with each other - no attempt at distancing. Table cleaning was a quick squirt of disinfectant and wipe of the tabletop, but chairs were not cleaned at all. In summary - excellent (if pricey) food, best suited if you're not too worried about COVID. If you are concerned, I'd think twice.

Booked online and found to be in the pub rather than restaurant on arrival (not given the choice). Found people sitting in our table because there wasn't a 'reservation' sign so we sat down on a nearby table that smelt faintly of urine. Not a brilliant start. No drinks menu was given and waitress not helpful in recommending something when my partner suggested that he wanted a porter or something similar.Food was fine but for a plaice costing £21 I expected better than fine and a bigger portion. Asked if we wanted dessert, we said yes and were told that they'd come back in a few minutes to take our order. 20 minutes later I had to go and find someone as we'd been forgotten. Desserts just OK and very expensive. Again, had to go and pay at the bar as waitress didn't return.Nearly £35 a head for mediocre food and poor service. Won't be back.

I haven’t eaten here since the pub was refurbished a number of years ago. We were looking for a Sunday roast on Sunday evening and thought we’d give it a go. The paper signage on the front door was a little confusing and could have said “use side entrance” with an arrow. The blackboard at the side entrance explain the hygiene measures being taken was excellent though. We ate in a marquee in the garden. The staff were friendly and helpful. The fire pits in the marquee were of no benefit heat-wise, and just provided a lot of smoke. We needed to wear jackets and got a little smokey. The music was terrible and contained inappropriate language. However, my daughter and I had roast pork belly with fennel and it was fantastic. Tender, flavoursome meat, with crunchy/chewy crackling. A good home made gravy, good roast potatoes, cabbage and some kind of carrot pure and parsnips. It really was excellent and the best pork I’ve eaten out. The organic ginger beer was excellent and the puds were a little overpriced and bland, I couldn’t taste the coffee in the coffee sauce. The bill came to £25 each and I’d give the main course 10 out of 10. Deserts 5 out of 10, drinks 10/10, staff 8 out of 10 and atmosphere 6 out of 10. I would definitely go back for a roast. Just a few tweaks and it would be perfect.

We chose the Swan at Wedmore for a little staycation break post-lockdown. Photos and menu looked great online, and being dog friendly clinched it for us. We had such a brilliant three days here, and can't rate it highly enough. The staff were all fantastic, in particular General Manager Barrie, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble (even my very barky dog who seemed to take exception to all the other punters!)The whole place was totally set up for this weird "new normal"; everything felt very clean and safe but without being intrusive. My room was epic (the biggest bed ever and an awesome stand alone bath). And they did the best "doggie bags" of treats for the pooch (which went someway to distract him barking...!) The menu was slimmed down but we managed to scoff our way through most of it during our stay (breakfast, lunch, dinner....!) Excellent wine list, with Barrie recommending some absolute corkers (he did a mean Aperol Spritz too!)A great place, lovely staff, brilliant location for exploring this beautiful part of the world. Have recommended it to everyone since coming home, and will definitely be back soon! Thanks for having us!

It’s in a beautifully restored building, warm, comfortable and welcoming, including to the dog. Breakfast was generous too. Daily (quality ie Times and Guardian) papers helped. The room was clean, well done out with two comfortable chairs, a luxurious deep bath and lots of fabulous toiletries. Little touches like a magnifying mirror and fresh milk for tea helped.Minor quibble was the pillows were too big to be comfortable for sleeping and gave us both stiff necks and the bathroom lighting wasn’t bright enough to shave or do makeup. We’d come again.

We did and got lucky as within 10 minutes or so the place was packed. We noticed some tables in the bar had ‘reserved’ signs on so mentioned to a member of staff that we weren’t able to book and she didn’t seem to know what we were talking about??
