The Old School House Indian Restaurant in Ashford

We ordered takeaway meal, Saturday, the 6th of April Collection was okay but I’m returning home four minutes away from the restaurant. The food was cold barely warm the chicken in the masala dishes was tough and old and dry. The sauce had so much colouring and absolutely no flavour the balti dish was flavourless and the korma was too sweet. Overall, The whole meal was completely tasteless. The poppadoms were burnt on the outside, and the naan breads were small and cold. One of the worst Indian dishes we have ever had would not recommend at all and will not be using again.

Really disappointed. Have used this restaurant for years now, both eating in and takeaway. Ordered takeaway tonight,40 mins wait. Arrived at designated time, took home by car, ( a few hundred yards only), There was one table in restaurant occupied, 1 other person waiting for take away, so no way busy when collected, Food was all luke warm. The Butter Chicken had large slices of pre-cooked chicken swimming in a gloupy yellow sauce ( Butter chicken is normally chunks of seasoned hot chicken cooked as needed, in a buttery hot sauce), and NOT pre-cooked, sliced chicken, heated up and covered in a sauce. Most of the solid chicken slices went in the bin, Totally unappetising, despite putting into microwave to warm up. The Shaslick Chicken was luke warm too, had the usual ingredients but only very very average. Have had Shaslick loads of times before,this was frankly disappointing and barely rates average, Don't know what has happened to what was a thriving, busy restaurant serving appetising food, Sort yourselves out else we won't be returning!!

I use this resteraunt on a regular basis. Tonight I decided to celebrate my Birthday with family at The Old School House. We ordered poppadoms and drinks, there was only one other table in use with 2 people. The starters were served, cold and dry and barely edible. We waited nearly an hour for the main to arrive. My son is diabetic and had already injected prior to eating his starter. I had to ask the waiter where the food was, he said it was ready, then proceeded to take 2 telephone orders. The food finally arrived, cold again, I said to the waiter that it was cold, and he took it to be put in the microwave. Whe it come to the payment, I told them I was not happy about the service, which was pretty much ignored until I said I would be posting a review. The waiter then said he had knocked 1 starter off. The bill was still £100 for 3 of us and in all honesty not worth anywhere near that. Jay has done well to bring the profile up again but sadly the staff seem to be very nonchalant when he's not there, and need to understand the importance of customer service. Not impressed .

Bank holiday Monday thought it would be busy, unfortunately we were the only ones in there, which was a shame, It was 9pm no collections being whilst we were there. Maybe others had gone earlier? Food was nice,service was good Edit *** Returned for a meal as heard it had changed management. A much better experience food was delicious. We also have had a take away and food was very tasty.

Lots of good reviews and de ided to get a carryout as it could be our local restaurant The staff were very nice. Room was cold Food was awful 4 chicken pakora which resembled undercooked chicken nuggets greasy and soggy the 2 small samosas were bearable but again undercooked ar least seem to have been made in house Nanny bread was very sweet and not cooked in tandoori oven whilst Chicken Tikka Masala was 8 small pieces of chicken no other solids sypuch as peppers or onions in a Scarlet bland thin sauceseasoned with sweet taste Not acceptable standard and a supermarket take out meal had more authenticity and flavour

I recently spent my christmas day here, the staff served 21 of us, it was my first time having and indian for christmas dinner, and so glad i did, the service was incredible.. the waiters recommended what they thought we would like and they were spot on. Nothing was to much to ask. The food came out very quickly considering there was 21 of us, all the food was hot and tasted amazing. Thank you jay for taking our booking and making this experience a great one... Highly recommended.

New updated review Oct 2023. After last visiting over a year ago when i gave a poor review, the new chef is great. This is now our go to Indian. Always really enjoy the vegetable balti (always nicely spiced )and tarka daal. Love the sag aloo too. Tikka massala is great also. Staff always really helpful. Prices are reasonable. Wait time is always acceptable. Just a note to Old School House, watch your portion sizes last few orders containers only 1/2- 3/4 full

Been to this restaurant many times but this was the first time under the new management. The food was incredible, so tasty and the flavours were amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. A really great meal out.

Not only is The Old School House outstanding value for money with a great range of dishes, but without fail, every time I visit, the food is utterly delicious. I've tried quite a few dishes now and every one is full of authentic flavour. You're always guaranteed a warm welcome and good service. The drinks are very keenly priced so I'm always tempted to have more than one! Spotlessly clean too. I'll be back!

I visit Kent three times a year on business/visiting family and we always make time to come to The Old Schoolhouse to eat. We come early to avoid the crowds. Always exceptional from friendly staff and the food is yummy and very reasonably priced. The chef is always happy to make minor adjustments for me (making a hot dish cooler and giving me a spinach-only dish o request). Wouldn't go anywhere else now I've found this!

Returned again as I heard it was under new management from a friend who lives in the area. Even worse service than last time had my pint poured by a young girl who looked younger than 16 - legal age to pour alcohol is 18- when served food my curry sauce was spilt on my white tuxedo staining it a scarlett red! food was sloppy chicken was hard and raw in the middle rice wasnt cooked - fingernail was found mixed in with the rice- the fork was stained and had excess food marks on, staff looked unpresentable and went on continuous smoke breaks without washing their hands after. The restaurant stunk of BO and Dog waste. The table cloth was stained from previous meals, food was all over the floor i had a squashed naan bread on the sole of my shoe, these were expensive shoes and are now ruined they have cheese all over the bottom. The facility was freezing cold, toilets were not regularly cleaned i walked in and there was poo marks spread around the wall with tissue stuck on. Staff tried hitting on me asking for my phone number and trying to use my e-cigarette. I was discriminated against for my size when i asked for a dessert. Ceiling was damp and moldy. Waitresses clearly under the influence of drugs. I CANNOT WARN YOU ABOUT THIS PLACE ANYMORE. Never returning again calling the food police! Thanks for reading.

Delicious food, and great service!

Went for dinner there last night and very poor service waited 40 minutes and still had no starter so left. Also the place mats were kitchen towel, what a way to run a restaurant. This place has gone so downhill.

Take away meal only. Excellent quality and service. This restaurant is also great for meals and special occasions and we have always been very happy with the food and service Not so cheap to eat in.

First time here with my family and it will definitely be our last. To start that had several items missing from the menu, then it took over an hour to get our food, and it wasn't overly busy. Then they spilt a full glass of lemonade over the table but made no attempt to clean it up, leaving us to mop up with napkin's. They were rude to my daughters partner. The desserts were still frozen in the middle and then to top it off they actually had the audacity asked if we were leaving a tip. Utterly disappointed and will not be returning.

Paria curry very good, biriyani average but nicely presented, jalfrezi lovely especially sliced chicken rather than chunks, and chicken tikka masala ok.Service ok, but quite reserved.Ambience good.Cost very reasonable.Toilet: one of our ladies was not very impressed with the gents. Other lady thought that ladies was satisfactory but quite cosy.

Everywhere we go, we eat at least at one Indian restaurant. So did we when in Hamstreet.The location (old school house) is nice, staff is very friendly, the food however is reasonable.Do not expect flavors that impress, good for a meal but certainly not memorable.

Best Indian restaurant in the area in my opinion, always excellent food and friendly service, this is the one to go to!!

My birthday so we decided to have an Indian takeaway to eat at my Mums. I thought it only curtious as it was a large order to ring it through on Thursday night to pick up at 6.15 pm on Friday. I prior to this looked on their Web site to get the menu and prices and compiled my order. The site said if you paid cash you could take advantage of a 10%.

Dined here recently with a party of friends as a leaving 'do'. Arrived at booked time of 7:30pm. Finally got our food (which was ok. Nothing to write home about) at 9:00pm. In the meantime the staff managed to knock a jug of water over my wife on TWO separate occasions. Certainly won't be returning.

Booked here to meet up with friends visiting the area. Welcomed when we arrived. The setting is the old village school house & it was good to see that the decor had not overpowered the history of the building.

This is a review from someone who was very nervous of Indian fare! Enjoyed it so much, we went back the following evening and are planning a return soon! Excellent food and very helpful staff, coupled with reasonable price, can throughly recommend it.

I'm new to the area and was tildthst this was a good restaurant, I tried a takeaway first and ordered a biryani, dhansak and tikka masalla plus keep nan, food was hot and very tasty the dhansak could have been spicier but that's my personal taste, keeps nan was full of meat and the biryani was excellent, can't comment on the massala as I didn't eat it but was told it was good, the 2 guys that served me were pleasant and I will definitely visit again for a sit down meal

Meal out with parents. Great service . Gave us a completely coffee each. Very helpful staff. Will return in the future.
