Do not bother going here unless you want to be ripped off! Worst Sunday lunch in the area - making the word 'Traditional' in their marketing ploy an absolute joke. Possibly the worst run Fuller's in the area!

After a couple of drinks outside on Friday last week I dropped my driving license. Didn’t realise until Saturday morning. Called a most helpful member of staff who after carrying out due diligence checks confirmed the card was safe. Not only safe but she posted the driving licence to me to save me the trouble of driving into Portsmouth to collect. How fantastic to know The Old Customs House employs such amazing staff. Thank you all! Kind regards Mike

Worst roast dinner I’ve ever eaten I sent it back initially as it was stone cold for them to bring it back out about 3 mins later being told it’s been microwaved to ensure it’s hotter ! my partner had burger which was also awful and left most of it as full of fat and gristle ! Both of us have been unwell today and suggestive that the food was the cause Would genuinely recommend avoiding !

We ate in the Old Customs House during a recent stay in Portsmouth. The building itself is quite atmospheric, although the rooms themselves are somewhat soulless. Service was pleasant, and we didn't have to wait too long for our meals. Mine, I ordered the pie of the day, was fine, and hot and more that sufficient. My wife, who ordered the Crab Burger, was very disappointed, and realises now that she should have said something at the time. However, what she got was not a burger shape, but rather a lot of batter strips with small amounts of crab in them. So why call it a burger, when clearly it isn't. We wouldn't return, and wouldn't recommend either

We were a party of 6 visiting at lunchtime. The welcome was good and we were shown to the table. First thing we noticed was the top of the table was sticky, as were others in the room. I assume that cleaning the table had removed the varnish protection. In any event we ordered drinks and the meals. It just seemed to take an inordinate amount of time for the meals to be served. There were young children in the party and the wait was unacceptable. The meals themselves were well prepared

We were given a table inside in a small room with another family. The atmosphere was a bit flat and lacking the warmth of a traditional pub. Husband had a sandwich and son just a portion of chips. £30 later and I’m still hungry. Probably won’t go again

Myself and 3 others visited at lunchtime on Monday 29th July. 2 of us ordered the Tuna Mayonnaise sandwich with spring onions. The menu clearly had it priced at £9.95. When we went to order the barmaid said it was £11.95. I said I’m sure the menu said £9.95. Her response was, that the till stated it was£11.95. I went back outside to the table and brought the menu in to the bar and showed her and she got the manager who then refunded the difference…no apology! I hope they have sorted out the till glitch now! The sandwich arrived, with 2 tiny pieces of spring onion and a plastic bottle of mayonnaise for us to squirt into the sandwich. Avoid that particular choice and check the price carefully when you order. Other than that great pub in a great location!

We had Sunday roast, my husband and myself ordered the Norfolk roast chicken, We expected beautiful slices of chicken Breast on our plate. What we got was a drum stick and half of a chicken breast cut across the middle ( which was dry). Had this been stated on the menu We would not have ordered it. There wasn’t very much meat at all and we were very disappointed, and I had to pick it up to eat it as it was to fiddly to cut. I did point this out to a member of staff but was told that’s how it is! This star rating is based on mine and my husbands meal, as everyone else had beef or pork, which was not only beautiful it was a generous portion. My advice to customers is don’t order chicken!

Looked a great pub from outside. Has sheltered outdoor seating to the front. Fullers pub with choice of 6 handpulled cask beers.... but no staff serving who knew anything about bitter, nor how to pull a cask ale. For goodness sake, Fullers, train your staff! I asked for a half of handpulled bitter and got presented with a flat as a pancake glass of liquid, no head whatsoever. Flat drinks pulled so ignorantly taste awful, it affects the beer taste. So when you don't know what you're doing, you might as well be serving water. The young lass whippersnapper who "pulled" my half tried to justify it by "explaining" "it's not meant to be a fizzy drink." !!!! And this said to someone from the trade who ran pubs and knew and knows how to pull cask beers. I was about to give her the benefit of the doubt and just select a different beer, but then whippersnapper 2, male version, had just pulled a drink for another customer from my 2nd choice beer and that was flat as a proverbial as well. Two young staff, both clueless and untrained on how to serve a beer, well, I just said forget it. No point having 6 handpulled cask beers for sale but a clueless crew who can't operate the pumps. Train your staff!

I ordered "Burrata & balsamic marinated tomatoes" from the Small Plate menu as I wasn't feeling for a full-size lunch. I understand the term Small Plate. But, what I received was a half-empty mini plate for £12.50. I don't mind paying for the food, but I am looking for value. However, this was a joke on the plate. It wasn't even the whole Burrata torn into 5 (?) pieces. I am not even sure it was Burrata, as it tasted more like mozzarella from Costco. There were 3 rather thin wedges of tomatoes and 4 stone hard pieces of bread or whatever it was. The cost of all the ingredients on the plate could be max. £4. The labour cost had to be peanuts as creating this complicated delicacy had to take like a minute. Thank you. This was our first and last visit.

Absolutely terrible experience. We ordered burrata with tomatoes and bread, garlic baguette, and fries. What they called 'burrata' was just mozzarella, with a mushy tomato and rock-hard day-old bread. The garlic baguette was nothing more than a cheap, white bake-at-home baguette with a smear of butter and a single garlic clove. Both dishes were poorly presented and tasted awful. The fries were just okay, but there was no service, and no one bothered to ask how the food was. The best thing was the Pepsi Max, because you can't really mess that up. Would not recommend!

Then the menu had changed on the website to the one we were offered! Generally, however, staff were very helpful and friendly. This was my first stay at this hotel. I just wish they had signage for the car park. I drove past twice and had to go around the city to get back to where I started. Once I decided to turn just before the hotel, I then had to get out to press a button so my details could be checked before I entered. Just be aware it's £20 a night. This is the first and LAST time we will visit the Old Custom House after yesterdays visit to Gunwharf. My husband & I both ordered the Haddock & chips meal which mentioned it included mushy mint peas and tartare sauce. The haddock was hot but not very large, the chips crispy and fine but the so called mushy peas were just a very few hard peas with a fresh mint leaf chopped in with it and put into the smallest little dish ever and was served to us COLD and in another dish the same was held something that was called tartare sauce ( tasted nothing like tartare but just something creamy and bland with hard bits, nothing like a gherkin in sight! Needless to say we only ate the fish & chips. This meal cost us £18.50 each (so we paid £37 plus £6.60 for their own Lucky Saint non-alcoholic lager & £3.35 for a glass of Pepsi Max) total bill £46.95!
