The Chambers in Portsmouth

Popped in for meal before going to Guildhall with hubby ..... place was empty except for early evening drinkers ....food was good but oh my .... had a 30min wait 😒 The interior was beautiful... wonderful laid tables.....but have had food just as good in other restaurants/pubs.

Wow. What a fantastic roast dinner!! Husband has been promising to bring me here for years and definitely worth the wait!!!!

It’s a good job that we visited The Chambers on the last night of our stay in Portsmouth - we’d not have bothered trying anywhere else otherwise. It’s right next door to where we were staying on business for the week and every night we’ve walked past after parking the car, commenting how lovely it looked. Well, tonight we went in for a beer, which turned into dinner…. The food was great - tasty, well cooked and seasoned, and served quickly. The service was bang on - attentive without being intrusive, smiley and without the ‘hey guys’ that drives us mad. The ambience of the place was bang on - warm, great lighting and the Halloween stuff amusing and atmospheric; the playlist might have been made just for us!! We’re just at the end of a spell of five weeks on the road, including nearly three weeks in France and The Chambers is up there with the best places we’ve visited. Thank you!

Great place, we visited in a rush as we had a ferry to catch. The staff looked after us really well, food was excellent as was the service...recommended!

21 of us met up for a Portsmouth Uni reunion and evening meal in the private dining room upstairs at The Chambers. The room was perfect for our get together and the food and service were exceptional. Would fully recommend this restaurant to other groups attending a reunion.

We visited on Sunday October 13th for my Mums 75th surprise Birthday Lunch. I cannot thank Jason, Amber and Anais enough for the truly wonderful and amazing afternoon shown to Mum and the rest of us. Also a really special gesture from Tom the owner, thank you Tom! The roast dinner was SUPERB, all fresh and perfectly cooked by the chef and probably the best roast dinner I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant for a long time. The staff were so attentive, friendly where nothing was too much trouble. Topped with an eclectic dining and sitting area giving a unique, comfortable cosy feel. Thank you thank you all and even bigger thank you to Jason and the staff for making Mums day so special and memorable. We will definitely come back when we are in the area again 😍🎉🍷🎂🥂🍾 Thank you all Amanda xxx

A real hidden gem of a place, always excellent food.

We recently had a reunion in Portsmouth with 21 of us attending. The Chamber’s have a private dining area which was ideal for this occasion. The food and service was excellent and we would all fully recommend The Chambers. Thank you for helping to make this a fantastic reunion

This beautiful place is amazing in so many ways, I just had my 40th birthday party there & they accommodated my wishes just perfectly! All my family & friends had such a great time, with plenty of space to dance & to eat also and not forgetting the beautiful roof terrace too! This was all for us for our private party & the venue upstairs is just perfection including its own bar too!! It will certainly be a night I won’t forget & staff were just so hopeful & polite. Service was impressively slow. I'm not joking, we waited for AGES just to be asked if we wanted a drink! Finally ordered our food and got our drinks, then waited for a while longer. When we realised that we'd been in the restaurant for nearly 90 minutes, and with our drinks long gone and no apparent prospect of being offered another, one of our group went to enquire about our food. To be fair to the restaurant, a member of staff did came straight over to apologise, and he offered us a free round of drinks. We did have to remind him that we'd also ordered wine though. When the food arrived, my scallop starter was ok. My wife's starter was lovely, but it was just pâté. Main courses were delicious, though mine was the smallest fillet steak I've ever seen... a medallion of fillet would've been a more fitting description, and it certainly wasn't worth £35! Deserts were very good. Doubt I'll be back to check if they were just having an off night here, and on the basis of our visit I wouldn't recommend.

Ordered breakfast and still waiting an hour later. We complained but nothing was offered by way of apology just assurances the food would come soon - which it didn't. It wasn't even very busy!

Atmosphere is nice, thats why we went in. The food though. The meat in the burger was not tasty at all, it was blend and was more like if they boiled and not grilled it. Sauce could make it better, but if there was any it was too little. The bun would be better if it was not cold. Sandwich was good but Iam putting review for my food. Too expensive for what we got

I visited The Chambers for breakfast over the weekend prior to attending a festival nearby. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable and always a great place to eat or have a drink. I’d definitely recommend The Chambers and looking forward to returning soon.

Always a brilliant welcome - Always spotlessly clean. Lovely staff, drinks are professionally poured with good glasses. Big choice of wines. Tables are set like your in a big country house, very grand yet comfortable. Always easy to park - sat outside in the sun and watched the world go by, this is a good spot, if you have not tried it. Food always comes quickly - was busy as well. Staff can never do enough for you - great dinner all round again and lovely ice cream for afters. No need to travel further in to Southsea the destination is her ! Pls try and enjoy like we have for maybe ten years now !

Amazing food, the chicken liver pate was so mouth watering I wanted a second, and the lamb was the same. Hats off to Andy the chef, and Sam who truly looked after us.

We had a beautiful meal here on a Saturday evening. It was really sad to see that there was only two tables in the restaurant as it’s a beautiful place that served delicious food. The wine was good and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the seafood risotto which was fresh and well seasoned. The staff were a little eager but I think that’s because the restaurant was empty. More people should definitely go here!

Very accommodating - staying locally + I popped in on the off chance for very early evening food following busy day, not wanting the hassle + bustle of heading into town. No issues whatsoever and I was made to feel welcomed. Whilst the menu had few veggie options, the chef was able to accommodate my needs with no issues whatsoever i.e. he knows what he's doing 👌 Staff were attentive and efficient. Service was good. Beer was nice + wild mushroom risotto was cooked to order + wasn't shy with the garlic (as requested thanks 🤝): texture was spot-on with that classic overall creaminess, with the al dente middle bit - not gooey, not fatty, not sloppy: just right👍 It was the nice relaxed atmosphere that I wanted & I enjoyed the quiet + coolness of the courtyard, but I can visualise it having much more of a buzz later on, or weekend for brunches. It was exactly what I wanted and I would recommend a visit 😎👍

Birthday celebration meal for 2.Excellent food,pate,fishcake starters,lamb and chicken main followed by a portion of cheese and biscuits which we shared as was too big for one. Atmosphere was calming and lovely background music. Service from manager and Jason was excellent,nothing was too much trouble.Birthday glass of port on the house for the birthday boy was a nice touch.Had excellent Sunday lunch here a few weeks ago too. Undoubtedly 5* service, food and atmosphere. Sam and his team went above and beyond to make my graduation lunch memorable and special for myself and my family. Their customer service was exceptional and the service was attentive, thorough and faultless. The food exceeded expectations and the pre-ordered set menu catered for all preferences. Sam greeted us all with a complementary glass of Prosecco for myself and my family and had a lovely surprise for myself as a graduate. Thank you to everyone at the Chambers for making my day so special, couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate with my family.

We had post graduation cocktails on the roof garden here and the staff were lovely & so friendly. Gorgeous venue too. Highly recommended.

Excellent service, attentive staff but really let down by the food. The lamb rumps were exceptionally fatty, chewy fatty and both of us that ordered this as a main struggled to eat it. They’d run out of the potatoes listed to accompany the lamb so we went for the triple cooked chips instead. They were awful and undercooked in the middle and a bit soggy on the outside. The red wine jus taste was also disappointing and lacked flavour. For nearly £30 for the main lamb dish. It was a big let down and not the fine dining plate they were aiming for. Pork belly was nice to start. Goats cheese starter nothing to write home about. The salmon main was average and also lacked flavour. The restaurant itself is cute and quirky and as mentioned the staff were lovely, so much so that I couldn’t bring myself to complain in person (typical brit that hates confrontation) however on reflection i wish i’d said something. We spent over £150 on our meal/drinks and left hungry after pushing our food around the plate. I would return for drinks and potentially try the afternoon tea as the venue and staff are both lovely. However i would not eat dinner again there, for me it was poor and a waste of money.

Went in there as it was very convenient to where we were staying. Within 10 minutes we were greated warmly, personally and with attention to us. The food was cooked to the highest standard and. The friendlnes of the staff were brilliant . . Very unusual to find a place like this. What a jem !

An absolute stroke of luck! We were thrilled, great location, great ambience, warm welcome, the food was very tasty, everything was freshly prepared, even the bread for the sandwiches, the products from the surrounding region, perhaps the Scottish salmon had a slightly longer journey 😉, the prices for food and drink were absolutely top! The service is very, very friendly, courteous, attentive, has everything under control, radiates joy at work and ensures that you simply feel at home as a guest. Thank you! I was lucky enough to be invited to my friends 30th held in the Chambers, absolutely stunning setting, food was amazing ( best steak I’ve had in a long time) the staff are brilliant, very attentive, nothing was too much trouble, a very welcoming atmosphere and a great wine list, I will definitely be visiting again when I’m in Portsmouth, only downside 5 stars is not enough.

An absolutely wonderful find. We had a gorgeous breakfast.. Eggs Benedict was wonderful (thank you Andrew) and Jason who served us and showed us around was lovely. The venue is far larger than initially realised with wonderful atmospheric upstairs areas and terrace area.

Really lovely evening! We had strawberry daiquiris, burgers and a brownie to share. Everything was fantastic, especially the burgers. The only slight negative was the brownie was a little burnt, but apart from that, we really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back!

What a great new team in place at Chambers. Always liked the atmosphere here but now blown away by the excellent food and value for money they are consistently delivering. 3 visits in the last 4 weeks and all without fault.

Went for a Sunday Roast. Portions were huge and very tasty and the deserts were spot on. Unfortunately the usual vegan option was not available so the chef cooked a custom meal for me which was very tasty. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. They went above and beyond for my elderly mother law. Definitely recommend a visit.

We had our wedding meal here and it was amazing, the food was incredible not 1 complaint from all 18 people

What great breakfast (not).......please disregard my last review no idea what has happened to this place but they have obviously lost my business. Saturday treat as usual was a fried breakfast but today thought I would go to Chambers for a extra treat . Undercooked ( maybe not undercooked but looked pale insipid and yukk) sausages . Raw cherry tomatoes nice in a salad but not as they were supposed to be cooked Toast that literally looked and felt like untoasted stale bread semi warm coffee . Ate the great poached eggs and bacon paid and left . Never again 😔 am truly disappointed

Update 03/204 - after many visits decided to update my review. Unfortunately changes they made are not positive. Portions are tiny, and I mean tiny, second photo has been taken today. We spent £90 on meal for two and had to stop by takeway to get some food for later. I can’t fault service - as always very friendly. However food is overpriced and not worth money they’ve asked for. Sorry to say it was our last visit and will look for new stake place to go. It’s the best steak place in Portsmouth. I can’t express enough how tasty good they serve. Bianca is the most sweet and friendly person there, she is making every visit very special. Jason making best drinks in the house. this place is amazing for just amazing meal, celebration or date. Go and treat yourself with amazing food, drinks and super friendly service

1st visit. After a bit of a wait due to electrical problems which were beyond anyone's control had an amazing roast dinner for myself and my family. I believe the young lady who served us was 'Nicky ' well done! Will definitely be returning and recommending to others.

Really disappointed after hearing such great reviews, both me and my partner work in the industry and having a Saturday evening off decided to book a table for a nice meal. Are starters were really nice and although it seemed to take a while for them to come we both thoroughly enjoyed them, after a while the waitress noticed are mains hadn’t arrived and came over to tell us they would be along shortly a few moments later the manager appeared to tell us our steaks were resting and would be along any minute now, these had only just been started and it was obvious when they arrived, both the Fillet and Ribeye were under done the ribeye came out Blue I had asked for it medium and the Fillet was med/well when asked for Well done. Both steaks were taken back and redone but we would of been happier for them to have just been cooked correctly the first time and to have waited longer, we hadn’t asked where our food was as we new that they were busy with a big party upstairs. The manager took the Ribeye off of the bill and gave us free desserts which were both delicious. The first time i have ever eaten out and not left a tip for our server.

Booked a roast here as heard so many good things about this place. So very disappointed, waitress was trying to be nice and helpful but came across as very patronising and spoke to us as though we were children ( I’m sure she didn’t mean to) . Roast came within 20 mins of ordering, vegetables were cold, broccoli under cooked, the Yorkshire puddings were so thick and dense and tasteless, chicken was luke warm, beef was ok, the pork was really really tasty but unfortunately just didn’t make up for the rest of it. We definitely won’t be going back.

Lovely lunch and atmosphere, portions were very generous, staff were very attentive especially Bianca who even kindly showed us which lime juice was used as it cured my pregnancy cravings of sour drinks! Couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly.

After a very warm welcome from all the staff, our party of 6 all ordered a Sunday roast dinner. I had a trio of meats which was lovely, the beef and chicken was really flavourful (pork a bit fatty for my liking) a huge Yorkshire pudding and serving dishes of carrot's, broccoli spears, cabbage, mange tout and cauliflower cheese (which was so tasty), the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Nothing was too much trouble, we asked for extra gravy which wasn't a problem and the service was absolutely excellent. Out waitress Bianca was a little gem, enthusiastic, helpful and very kind. Overall a lovely experience, nice atmosphere and fantastic meal, I would highly recommend The Chambers and will definitely be going back - thank you

We came here for Sunday lunch and the food was amazing. The portion size was brilliant and the food was so tasty. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our waitress was called Katie and she was absolutely brilliant. The trip was for my birthday and the staff very kindly offered our party a celebratory glass of fizz. Sunday roast has to be the best in portsmouth. Each mouthful was delicious and all vegetables were served individually, the meat was melt in mouth. Irish coffees are one of the best also!

Visited today for a roast dinner. Was cooked beautifully. My fussy 5 year old had a meltdown because he doesn’t like roasts so the waitress Bianca asked the chef if he could make something else. They went above and beyond I just expected a portion of chips but they made a full children’s meal , fish fingers bean and chips. Would highly recommend this place to anyone

We popped in Remembrance Sunday without a booking and had a wonderful roast dinner. We both opted for the roast beef and it was absolutely delicious. In fact I couldn’t get enough of the cauliflower cheese. The portion sizes were immense, couldn’t finish it all although we did get a doggy bag to take some food away. Bianca our waitress was very friendly and attentive and the whole experience was great from start to finish. Highly recommended.

We were lucky enough to get a late booking for Sunday lunch 5 adults 4 children Our waitress was a amazing lady called Bianca I really can’t praise her enough, she was so helpful didn’t rush us answering every question we had, and so patient with the children The roasts were delicious and so many different vegetables carrots parsnips cabbage red cabbage home made cauliflower cheese to die for tender broccoli the gravy was thick and yummy I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend here Thank you Bianca for looking after us :-))

Lovely atmosphere, great service and really good food. Between us all we had Ribeye steak, Fillet steak, Lamb, Mushroom Wellington, everything was delicious and the steaks were cooked to perfection We will definitely be back

We were put into the back room where there is very little atmosphere and tired decor. Our server, Bianca, was very attentive and pleasant. The food looked good, but some of it was cold, and we did not feel that it was value for money. I ordered pork, and the crackling was terrible. I'm a bit shocked that they charge £1 for a Yorkshire pudding as it should be part of a Sunday dinner.

A feast fit for a King & Queen, we savoured pan fried scallops & crispy pork belly slices to start followed by a gorgeous fillet steak with added scallops for the greedy one (me), Mrs B opting for shredded lamb with fondant potatoes. As if...

We booked online for a meal here and requested the 1kg Tomahawk in the special requests as you have to give 24 hours’ notice. Unfortunately this wasn’t received by the restaurant when we got there, however we were offered the Chateaubriand for the same price and were not disappointed at all! Tasted delicious, perfectly cooked and came out quickly. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the man who served us but he was fabulous and so attentive. Food was superb, atmosphere brill and staff all lovely, will definitely be returning.
