The March Hare in Guildford

A bit of a mixed experience. It was very busy so service was fairly slow - took a while to get a coffee on arrival. However we were with a larger group so that’s maybe understandable. Food was mixed. My wife’s vegetarian roast was really enjoyable. My steak was over cooked. Chips were great. Prices high for the quality.

I love this place, the bar is super cosy, and the food and drink is fantastic, along with the service.

My girlfriend and I came here as we heard only good things and can now confirm; this is the best Sunday roast we’ve ever had. I start basic training tomorrow and this was my final meal of freedom; couldn’t have picked a better final meal. If you love soft beef, complex and gorgeous gravy, perfect roast potato’s and a Yorkshire pudding worthy of representing all Yorkshire puddings at the Yorkshire pudding Olympics and winning gold; make the journey!

First time trying this venue, food was nice but not amazing considering the price point, service was attentive and the decor is lovely.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely food, well organised overall. We had our company’s quarterly meet-up there last week. There was an online preorder app. The order selection was nice and simple. I wish they had a picture of food in the selection menu. In our dining area, the temperature wasn’t thermostat controlled but it required a bit of manual intervention to turn off if it was getting too hot. The staff provided individual cards of printed list of the pre-ordered items with the diner’s name. The service was fast and the food was well presented.

We hadn't booked but I popped in with a mate who keeps banging on about the charcuterie. They found us a small table as they were busy. We ordered the charcuterie. Got moved to a larger table for more surface area. Great service, nicely done. And good meat well cooked. Cheers

This is one of our favourite pubs which is more of a restaurant and always great flavoursome quality food. Always very busy on a Sunday so you have to book well in advance. Very good friendly and attentive service. Only negative £14-15 is a bit steep for a 250ml glass of Malbec.

What a great place. I actually prefer it to a mainstream Brasserie Blanc. Well done to all concerned. Despite living nearly 60 miles away, I'll be back.

I had a birthday gift card for a Raymond Blanc dining experience. Found one local to me. Arrived having found parkin an adjacent street. (Mind your doors on car as high kerbs) Great restaurant, which is a pub too. We were sat upstairs, thankfully, as quite busy downstairs. Waitering staff very helpful and explained how everything worked as gift card. Lovely food, great service, reasonably priced. Yes I would go again.

I will be honest, my burger really wasn't that great, the meat was dry and overcooked on one side and ok on the other. But the people I was with had nice looking food so 🤷🏻‍♂️. The waitress was really kind and we were sat upstairs which is a nice vibe but it was quite loud. Overall I think there are nicer restraunts in Guildford but I would happily come again for a pint or two.

A fantastic pub in the centre of Guildford only a few minutes' (steep) walk from the Yvonne Arnaud theatre. When we went it was busy and vibrant. Food and service were excellent.

Havent eaten here for a while and not really a drinking pub per se, but, nice atmosphere and the style of boozer which is lacking in Guildford

Having eaten here previously, I expected better. Lunch was decidedly average, luke warm, and if a limited quantity. Disappointed

Once again the Match Hare did not disappoint We went for my husband’s birthday and despite being extremely busy the staff were friendly and attentive Our waiter Jack was excellent The food was outstanding again There is absolutely nothing to fault My husband was treated to a happy birthday dessert - candle and all -which was great Many other places we have been to could take a leaf out of their book Fantastic. Lovely pub to dine in, lots of tables but not too squashed in. Food was excellent, appears as small portions but cooked superbly and tasted lovely. I had the duck which was lovely. Prices on high side but didn't feel ripped off due to quality. Staff very friendly, helpful and polite also patient with one of our guests. Recommended, 3 course and one drink around 40 to 50 per head. Parking however in local car parks walking distance.

I love the atmosphere of this pub and the food tastes great. Would have been 5 stars however the cheese board was too small to share (only 4 crackers). The plates were also cleared from the table as members of the group were still eating their mains.

First time we have eaten here The restaurant was packed for a Tuesday night and the food smell was lovely as you walked in. I had mushrooms to start which were good. Pork for main, and it was very tender and the potatoes and gravy with it were very good. I wasn’t so keen on the crackling as it was obviously out a bag rather than cooked on the meat. It was rock solid and couldn’t cut it. The sticky toffee pudding was good The atmosphere and the service was great and we will definitely be returning.

A great dinner with friends. We had the crab and corn bites to start followed by the pork paired with G&Ts which was delicious. A bowl of kale finished off the meal as the cabbage and potato accompaniments were a little on the light side for us. Nice vibey atmosphere nearby the Guildford castle.

Came in on Christmas Eve as a group of 4. All our food was really well presented and delicious - I had the roast dinner which was huge! Great service and atmosphere too.

Delicious Sunday Roast, perfect after a walk round Pewley Down! We sat in the little area of the pub overlooking the bowls green by the castle, and it was a lovely atmosphere. The rest of the pub was pretty busy but as you'd expect for a Sunday afternoon. All the food was delicious and the service was prompt. The 2 courses for £25 is a good deal on a Sunday!

Lovely pub with a good bar area and restaurant run by excellent and attentive bar staff who really care and make you feel welcome.

I love this pub, but….. If this pie was double a size with double the amount of chips and gravy and a few stems of steamed tender stem broccoli, then it would be worth the £18 I paid for it

We visited on a Saturday evening. The place was very busy with a great warm “buzzy” atmosphere. The food was really good and the service was excellent. One of my favourite places to eat in the centre of Guildford

I dined here over the Christmas period and despite it being incredibly busy, service was smooth and efficient. The food was incredible, the slow cooked beef fell apart in my mouth and the mash was super soft and creamy.

Good quality food but could be bigger portions for the money. Great service, lovely warm atmosphere.

We dined with friends and family. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good service. Good A la carte menu with a great choice of foods. Very busy but well managed. Fantastic location, walked around the castle gardens next to the restaurant. This was our third time and not our last. Highly recommended!

Sunday Roast - cold. No excuse to send out cold food. Yorkshire puds - cardboard. Used to be so good. Last three meals - very disappointing. Sad as friends and family use to rate it highly but are no longer going for meals. Shame has it has a lovely atmosphere.

Family Sunday birthday lunch today - great service, great food, busy but great atmosphere. Thank you to the staff for adding a candle to the birthday desert and singing 'Happy Birthday' with us! Highly enjoyable and recommended.

When he swapped out with a female waiter to our table who was polite, attentive and non judgemental, it completed the evening.

The March Hare has sadly lost it's sheen. This restaurant has an excellent atmosphere, solid service and some truly delicious vegetarian meals including the gnocchi and the vegetarian pie. *However*... during a recent visit, the quality of food from the grill section was appaling: two mediocre steaks that were undercooked and served with overcooked tomatoes alongside a burger that was burned and bitter to the taste on one side and soggy underneath due to the tomatoes having soaked into the bun. Hopefully this will be rectified before you visit as it is a shame for such a great place to be let down in this way.

I must come back to have what my friends chose. Mine was brilliant and the service was great. It’s so hard to chose as it’s all good.

I like the restaurant but they did not have available few plates on the menu, the service was good. I tried the pistacho pudding and the flavor was artificial, the rest of the food that we tried was nice.

I Went on a half day trip to GuildFord came here and had roast dinner which was delicious and the lovely bartender made a very nice latte coffee. It was super busy but the staff were very accommodating and polite. Will definitely come back.

Lovely pub and restaurant, with a warm greeting as soon as we entered. Staff were attentive and friendly, food and drinks were fab! So great to have 3 vegan options for a main course, which was our reason for our visit. Thanks so much 😃

Very good atmosphere and the food was lovely with a good menu for any allergies. The waiter knew all about my coeliac disease and was very useful when I asked what I could eat. Good range of drinks too.

Cosy atmosphere. Can get very noisy and warm on a busy day when the fire is on (had a very sweaty Christmas dinner here two years ago!). On our most recent visit we had absolutely delicious food that was only let down by a very disappointing and slightly overcooked creme brulé. In comparison to the pistachio soufflé which was, by all accounts, wonderful it was even more of a disappointment (and tiny). The service is always excellent and the staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. A good place for a splurge every now and then.

Great atmosphere. Good food. Dog friendly. Its a popular place in a good location next to the Castle and opposite Ivy Asia. Other people tried to take our reserved table so make sure your party members aren't late arriving or you will find yourself chucking...

One of the best pubs in Guildford! Me and friends came here for drinks and dinner on Wednesday. The food was just to die for and it was just so fresh and well presented. The staff were very friendly and food was out with in good time. They have a great wine and drink menu as well. We was seated upstairs what was lovely and the tables was in a nice area also not to close together. Would definitely be coming back here!

Prepare yourselves, readers - I'm about to wax lyrical. Over the years I have often passed by The March Hare and thought 'That looks like a lovely pub - must visit some day' so we decided to try it for our special Christmas Eve supper....

Awful experience here for birthday celebration. We reserved a table in the bar area and, despite contacting them the day before to confirm the booking again, the table was not reserved and had other customers sitting there. The bar staff did ask them to move but we had to wait about 10 minutes to sit down. As not all of our party had arrived and staff made no attempt to make the reservation obvious, other customers kept trying to sit down on our second table. This resulted in one man becoming very angry after explaining our reservation to him and he wanted to fight me... Says a lot about the type of customers at this pub. Don't order the steak it was not good.

What an absolutely terrible experience. The worst of Christmas dining experiences. We were seated upstairs jammed into a corner by the till. The starter was minute, the main course (turkey) was both cold and burnt and quite frankly inedible. The desert was the worst crème brûlée I have ever eaten. The service was patchy and disinterested. I could go on as there were other issues too, but it really was the worst Christmas experience. I’m sure that we are all used to (and accept) a level of higher pricing and lower quality during busy times at Christmas, but this was truly beyond bad.

Very loud environment. Next to impossible to speak to my dinner companion without screaming and even whilst screaming it was difficult to make out what was said. The service was very good and attentive and the waitors really did everything they could to make us feel welcomed and cared for. The food... It was alright i had a lamb roulade that was very good my company had a haloumi Burger. Both good. For starters we had Moules - they were good too. I ordered sauce Bearnaise with the Moules. The Sauce was not good. It did not contain even a trace of Tarragon and had a very peculiar taste, which led me to believe it was made from some sort of oil rather than butter and perhaps some other ingredients rather than those that constitute this very classical emulsion. It was also colder than room temperature or just at room temp. Cheating with the King of Sauces is really not a good thing. Better to leave it off the menu. Otherwise the dinner was very good.

Pub was packed but service was excellent and friendly. Good atmosphere and food was good. Temperature in conservatory in winter can be a bit variable but didn't spoil the evening at all. Will definitely come back.

Loved loved loved our Christmas get together here! Sadly, I took no photos of the food but I had the croquettes, sea bream and creme brulee. They even gave us mince pies at the end! The service was exemplary given how busy they were and the general atmosphere on point.

Work Christmas Meal, you get used in other places to be processed, but the service here was fab, so was the food, fresh and great quality with thoughtful touches, easy process to make everyone choose, attentive service on the night!

Fish soup was superb, as always. Burgers used to be excellent and can be safely served pink, but now are much too dry - I was told they were using low fat beef to save on calories, but patties need more fat for flavour! Calorie...

Today we had a Christmas set menu at the March Hare. I had never been here before and loved it. The decor is really beautiful and the staff were really friendly and helpful. There were over 20 of us so we pre ordered our meals. They very helpfully gave us name places with our orders on them, which I've never seen a restaurant do and I always forget what I ordered 2 weeks prior to the meal. They also took a great amount of caution with my allergies which was greatly appreciated. Service was excellent and we weren't left waiting for food or drinks at all despite it being really busy. The presentation of each meal was beautiful and everything was very nice. Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful evening! I have booked to come again on my birthday now!

Ordered the chalkstream trout on greens with wild mushrooms and roe ... cooked to perfection, seriously what an amazing plate of food! Wood burning stove, great staff ... just what you want to make travelling worthwhile.

Was taken there by a friend and what a joy. Busy, joyful atmosphere with a very mixed clientele. The service was exceptional and the staff her knowledgeable and efficient without being pushy. I absolutely loved it and will definitely visit again. But book first as it was only through sheer luck we were able to get a table.

The March Hare is one of the best pubs in Guildford. Had a nice cosy feel about it. Excellent menu choices, food was superb the service was friendly and efficient . It is a great place to be after spending the day shopping. Highly recommended

Some of the best food I have had in a long time. I had the seasonal specials, cheese soufflé and the lamb roulade and they were both fantastic. All the food came out quite quickly and was piping hot even though the restaurant was very...

We dined here this evening for the Wednesday Steak Night Deal (buy 2 steaks and receive a complimentary bottle of wine and 3 sauces - black garlic mayo, bordelaise sauce, tomato & harissa ketchup). It’s a very good deal and the restaurant was full when we arrived so it’s clearly popular. There was a great atmosphere buzzing with happy diners and drinkers. Service was a bit slow but friendly and our rump steaks were a little overcooked. When we ordered, we were asked how we wanted them cooked so we asked what the chef would suggest and were told this would be medium rare which we agreed to, but they were more medium to well done. This was not a massive problem as the meat was good quality, not fatty and very tasty. We didn’t complain but our waitress asked how everything was so we told her. What was really good was that the manager came straight over and offered to bring out new steaks for us but we were hungry (we’d waited around 50 mins already) so said we’d eat them but he did offer us a complimentary dessert which was very much appreciated. The cheese platter we selected was delicious and absolutely huge so more than enough for us to share. All in all, it was a lovely midweek treat that we found to be good value so we’d definitely come back again / recommend to friends and family. Thank you to the team for a lovely evening.

The place is beautiful but unfortunately style over substance. Service was terrible, our waiter was so miserable it was actually quite awkward. Food was not great or served as described. Kids food was very unappetising. Such a shame as it could be fantastic.
