The March Hare in Guildford

Such a cosy lovely atmosphere and they have alcohol free beers on draught!

This was our first visit to the March Hare and was recommended by friends who also joined us for lunch. We had a lovely lunch, good food and wine and great service. We will return.

Nice place to have dinner or semi fancy drinks. The food tasted amazing, and the service was excellent. My pie was slightly small though and would be my only complaint.

We were guests of friends for a big birthday. The whole evening was amazing the staff, the food and the professionalism. Well done to everyone. Thank you.

Dirty table, poor service where waiting staff seemed disinterested, food was cold, no one checking in with us during the meal and they messed up the bill with no apology made. When you’re paying £65 for a sharing steak you expect it to be decent, but sadly this was a very disappointing experience. I followed up a couple of times afterwards but received no response!

Sunday lunch for 4. The vegetarian option was very tasty.

The roast beef was delicious, super tender, and the sticky toffee pudding was fabulous too. We had a great time, and the service was brilliant. I'm looking forward to coming back!

A good spot for a pub lunch after a big walk in Stoke park. A good choice on the menu and the portions were good. Slightly overcooked halloumi for my burger... coconut ice cream was yum

One of the best gastro pubs in Guildford. Friendly service always. Great food in especially the new autumn menu (mushroom tartine and pork ribeye were great).

Fantastic food and staff. The menu changes seasonally and, as fans of fish dishes, there is a great choice of delicious well- prepared and well-presented food. Great cocktail list, too. Staff are always friendly and efficient

Took my 2 nieces for lunch to celebrate her birthday. It was nice but I thought it very expensive as I was paying! So £180 for 3 when we had 1 drink each and 3courses for lunch. Nice room We ate cheese soufle ((dry) and pork rib eye which was like a rolled gammon - ok Niece had sirloin steak which looked good My crumble was cold so I should have sent it back.

Engaging and helpful staff who did go the extra mile. Food included range of fish dishes as part of the main menu. Fellow guests felt portions slightly on the small size, but that did allow us to take advantage of the puddings! Not rushed during lunch - food reasonably tasty but not outstanding

Very good food and attentive staff as usual. Lovely, relaxed surroundings and all at a price that sits comfortably. The menu is imaginative and the portions are very generous.

Visited a few times quality food Friendly staff dog friendly. Busy place so recommend you book . Highly recommend. We booked again for Sunday lunch .

A very pleasant atmosphere, and right by the castle too

Booked for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. The place was incredibly busy, cramped, hot and noisy. Food was average at best but bland lacking seasoning. The bar drinks cost seemed to be very high. The place claims to be dog friendly but the way they pack people in you could not have a dog with you. A two course meal with half a bottle of wine was £74 for the two of us and we had the vegetarian meal which tends to be cheaper. We asked the waiter to break up the bill ( it was a group of 14) so that we could pay for what we had ordered but he either didn't want to or couldn't so payment was a mess with some people paying too much and others much too little which was very frustrating. This was a very disappointing experience. We would not recommend this restaurant.

Amazing pub/restaurant, we had a table for 7 people. Food was excellent we will be back! Most of our table had the steak. I had the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection.

The best kept secret in Guildford What a pleasant surprise.. The reception was great, fabulous food, wonderful service, atmosphere lovely, I’m running out of adjectives….. Cant recommend it highly enough. Do go if you’re in Guildford.

A lovely restaurant because it feels family run and has a nice atmosphere. The service was good, particularly the warm invite at the start of the service. The fish soup was excellent. My steak was medium and I ordered it medium rare. Otherwise, a very good dining experience.

Just popped in for a pint. Comfortable seats. Good pint. Slow bar service. Didn't eat. Shame drinkers can't sit out the back as the front is bang on a road which personally I don't enjoy. Sunday lunchtime, 1:00pm, not very many people using the place.

This is a beautiful restaurant serving world class food in the centre of Guildford without a modicum of snootiness. We had steak and it was cooked to perfection. And we got an amazing table that peeked out over the castle without needing to book. The staff served local hospitality with Michelin level class.

Lovely Pub great service and food was lovely with a huge variety on the menu. I'm vegetarian and had a alot of choice, I had the potato Tiana which was delicious! - they gave us a couple puddings for free as we were celebrating 2 birthdays!

Had a great meal here last night….the pork was excellent! Super friendly and efficient staff on both the bar and in the restaurant and a great atmosphere.

The food was absolutely sublime and the service incredible. We were served by the French waiter (can't recall his name, sincere apologies, the wine was flowing!), he was wonderful. The food...my goodness... Just incredible!

Booked table for birthday Roast. Lovely friendly welcome. Shown to our table and superbly attended to by the amazing Gabrielle, who made our visit a wonderful treat. Food was excellent, served really quickly. Great desserts, including the cheesecake which we sampled. All in all a truly wonderful experience. Will be coming back soon, to try the weekday lunches or dinners.

Nice staff, good pub food and lots of space for kids.

We were served by a waitress who felt she was doing us a favour by giving us more bread, than they normally give, so we could mop up the soup. Little did we know that we would need this to fill us up! We ordered the fish bouillabaisse which is nothing like the picture on the website! It consisted of one prawn, plus the head of another one and four mouthful sized pieces of fish, three of which were okay and one piece full of bones that I had to spit out. My husbands meal wasn’t any better he had a two inch wide piece of lamb which he was very disappointed in. Very expensive and very disappointed!!! We will definitely not be returning.

Enjoyed a fab meal with friends at this lovely Guildford pub. We all really enjoyed our food, the ambience and the air conditioning - it was the hottest day of the year! Service was great too.

Went with a friend for Sunday lunch . The staff all seemed so happy and all looked well dressed . The food was amazing and we could ask for more veg roasties and gravy . Wine was amazing . Not rushed at all . Will definitely be coming back !

Went for lunch with friends. Service was good, we had a friendly helpful waiter and there was a nice atmosphere. We all had different meals with varying portion sizes. I ordered the grilled king prawns with black rice, braised peas and broad beans and peppers. Whilst the prawns were good, I had two small broad beans, three peas, no pepper and lukewarm tasteless rice. Certainly didn’t look like the picture advertised on the website. I appreciate costs have rocked in the sector but felt it was pricey for what we had and I won’t be rushing back.

A stunning pub in the center of Guildford. Lovely service, delicious food (we had the Sunday Roast), and the interior decor was stunning! Made you feel right at home, whilst also making you feel you were somewhere special. Likely one of the nicest pubs in Guildford! 10/10 to team Hare! 🐇

We all 6 of us has pretty much something different to each other and we all agreed it was absolutely delicious. I always measure a roast against what I could cook and their roast is definitely up there with mine. Cannot fault it and cannot recommend it highly enough. All the staff were happy, very helpful and cheerful. Wonderful place for a Sunday roast

We had a memorable experience here as a large family group on a weekend away in Guildford who wanted to catch England game v Switzerland (great atmosphere for the penalty shootout!). The service was faultless and the food was top-end Gastropub fare. The excellent dressed crab was in a sizeable shell and was well complemented by chips with crab mayo for dipping. I may have regretted not ordering the pistachio soufflé if my own pudding hadn’t been so good! We don’t live too far away and will definitely be back.

Best roast dinner I’ve had. Been twice now and great quality and also unlimited which typically you’d think would mean less quality but not here. Can’t recommend it highly enough and great service from the staff

Came to Guildford for weekend, after a poor experience at another establishment, thought we d try the March Hare out, the chap who showed us to the table and served us was so attentive and polite, the food and wine was fabulous. Our service was finished by another equally pleasant girl, and this all made our experience so positive! We ended up going back again on the Saturday for drinks!! Thankyou for a great time!

Very good food and great service. Bar area before meal was a noisy for conversations but quieter in the restaurant part. Would recommend for a meal, it's not your standard pub grub.

First visit but definitely not the last - lovely food and atmosphere but more importantly absolutely fabulous service from Jan from Brittany and his colleague who’s name we didn’t catch but in a UK where service is often so far down the list of priorities this was impressive- friendly but efficient and warm loved it !! We held a senior team lunch here and I only have good things to report about the place, food and staff. Attentive without being stifling, courteous, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was excellent. I had the trout and it was wonderful. Everyone, all 8 of us, provided similar feedback. Highly recommend this place. Thanks to the chefs and staff. Keep up the great service and food standard.

Have always had the best night here. Special shout out to Jess, Sam, Leo, Alex and Ria who were working tonight. But all the team are wonderful. If anything is on your bucket list then it’s a trip to this pub!

Second visit here and just as great experience as first ,visiting Guildford from Buxton and Bolton a party of 8 looked after very well fantastic food, at a reasonable price. Going above and beyond , one of our party had a birthday and made him feel special with a candle thank you very much .

Great pub in Guildford, well worth a visit if you are heading into the area. We were here for an evening out and was very nice indeed and will be returning if we are ever in the area. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were very welcoming.

Food was good, service was a little chaotic but adequate, the atmosphere dropped a bit because it was too crowded where we sat.

Love this place. Had the most amazing birthday there on xmas day. Been several times since. Love the new menu with some of the old favourites. Delicious pasta and the ever wonderful soufflé. Service spot on.

Had lunch with family and friends from HK, so they would experience an English pub and food. Excellent food and exceptional service.

Took my disabled mother for lunch, restricted parking and her lack of mobility made it difficult to drop her off then find somewhere to park the car. Food is good but note on the higher side for lunch, portions okay apart from the cauliflower cheese which was minuscule, beef was very good. Can ask for more spuds / yorkshires if you wish.

This place never disappoints, I’ve been here a handful of times over the years while visiting on business. The half roasted chicken is tender and juicy and basically falls off the bone. I always cap things off with the pistachio soufflé which is a must for desert here. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything here honestly. Stop in and support this nice local business.

Private dining for 20. It could not have gone any better.

Really disappointed with our visit today. All 4 adults ordered the roast beef and sadly, it was extremely average. The speed that it came suggests that Sundays are about number of covers rather than the quality of the food. Our roast beef was overcooked, chewy and one part was inedible due to the fat and grizzle in it- I couldn’t cut it. The Yorkshire puddings would probably have been ok when they were made, but had clearly been sitting around and reheated , so were chewy and a bit greasy- in my opinion these need to be made fresh to order or within an hour otherwise why bother?! Cabbage was hard and raw in places, rest of veg overcooked and soggy. Roast potatoes were bland and again, had been cooked hours before or possibly even the day before. At over £20 pp, I expect a bit more and it should at least be same standard that you would make yourself. There was also nowhere near enough gravy. The children had chicken goujons and these were dry and overcooked, you could barely cut them . They also only come with one side…either a loads of fries or 4 very thinly cut veg sticks. Why can’t it have both?! I’d have thought two sides (veg and carb) is fairly standard… Unfortunately we were not able to make anybody aware as we weren’t asked how it was when the plates were collected. Either we had the B team in the kitchen today, or were just unlucky, but I expected much better based on the reviews. On the positive side the service was fairly attentive and sauces delivered when asked.

Provided a fantastic service for my brother in law’s wedding. Staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious! We hired the private room which was perfect for a small family get together. Thank you so much

My wife and I have been to the March Hare on numerous occasions over the past years and decided to hold a small dinner for my mum’s 90th birthday celebrations. There was 13 of us and we couldn’t have chosen a better location as the food, the atmosphere and the attention given by the waiting staff was exemplary. This is easily the best pub/bistro in the Guildford area and I so recommend it to anyone who has not visited yet.

Food was delicious and piping hot - the service was brilliant- I’m sorry I didn’t catch our waitress’s name but I know she was from Berlin ! We held my mother in law’s 90 th here and it was a lovely night

I really like it here. Fairly busy but really excellent food, friendly staff, good selection of drinks. Good location and atmosphere.

A bit of a mixed experience. It was very busy so service was fairly slow - took a while to get a coffee on arrival. However we were with a larger group so that’s maybe understandable. Food was mixed. My wife’s vegetarian roast was really enjoyable. My steak was over cooked. Chips were great. Prices high for the quality.

I love this place, the bar is super cosy, and the food and drink is fantastic, along with the service.

My girlfriend and I came here as we heard only good things and can now confirm; this is the best Sunday roast we’ve ever had. I start basic training tomorrow and this was my final meal of freedom; couldn’t have picked a better final meal. If you love soft beef, complex and gorgeous gravy, perfect roast potato’s and a Yorkshire pudding worthy of representing all Yorkshire puddings at the Yorkshire pudding Olympics and winning gold; make the journey!

First time trying this venue, food was nice but not amazing considering the price point, service was attentive and the decor is lovely.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely food, well organised overall. We had our company’s quarterly meet-up there last week. There was an online preorder app. The order selection was nice and simple. I wish they had a picture of food in the selection menu. In our dining area, the temperature wasn’t thermostat controlled but it required a bit of manual intervention to turn off if it was getting too hot. The staff provided individual cards of printed list of the pre-ordered items with the diner’s name. The service was fast and the food was well presented.

We hadn't booked but I popped in with a mate who keeps banging on about the charcuterie. They found us a small table as they were busy. We ordered the charcuterie. Got moved to a larger table for more surface area. Great service, nicely done. And good meat well cooked. Cheers

This is one of our favourite pubs which is more of a restaurant and always great flavoursome quality food. Always very busy on a Sunday so you have to book well in advance. Very good friendly and attentive service. Only negative £14-15 is a bit steep for a 250ml glass of Malbec.

What a great place. I actually prefer it to a mainstream Brasserie Blanc. Well done to all concerned. Despite living nearly 60 miles away, I'll be back.

I had a birthday gift card for a Raymond Blanc dining experience. Found one local to me. Arrived having found parkin an adjacent street. (Mind your doors on car as high kerbs) Great restaurant, which is a pub too. We were sat upstairs, thankfully, as quite busy downstairs. Waitering staff very helpful and explained how everything worked as gift card. Lovely food, great service, reasonably priced. Yes I would go again.

Pricy for the small food portions. Average quality. Overrated in my opinion.

I will be honest, my burger really wasn't that great, the meat was dry and overcooked on one side and ok on the other. But the people I was with had nice looking food so 🤷🏻‍♂️. The waitress was really kind and we were sat upstairs which is a nice vibe but it was quite loud. Overall I think there are nicer restraunts in Guildford but I would happily come again for a pint or two.

A fantastic pub in the centre of Guildford only a few minutes' (steep) walk from the Yvonne Arnaud theatre. When we went it was busy and vibrant. Food and service were excellent.

Havent eaten here for a while and not really a drinking pub per se, but, nice atmosphere and the style of boozer which is lacking in Guildford

Having eaten here previously, I expected better. Lunch was decidedly average, luke warm, and if a limited quantity. Disappointed

Slow service , very noisy and the food is below average. Very expensive considering the quality of the food ! We will never return.
