Zucchini in Guildford

Visited last weekend with family and friends. Notes from our visit1. Please clean your toilets. Sinks flity...2. Chefs should be wearing hats and kitchen uniforms. They shouldn't be working with their Jean's...NOT HYGIENIC3. Menu is very good, but the execution of the dishes are horrible. Eg: brushetta should be on a toasted bread, tomatoes should be room temperature not ice cold from fridge...4. You shouldn't be serving food on a chipped plates.Such a shame as they have a lovely concept and menu but lack of care and management. We wont be returning.

Such a shame. Food was pretty average and the speed of service was ok. My pizza was just about cooked and the other meals for our table were cooked ok. The place has zero atmosphere and the waiter although pleasant had the charisma of a brick. We tried it once when it first opened so we thought we would give it a second chance. We will not be going back for a third. I would say considering that nothing was terrible this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever. I have no idea why on earth anyone could have given this restaurant a 4 or 5 star rating. My advice is you are thinking about going, don’t and order a take away as it will be far more exciting and the delivery person will add more fun to the occasion that you will get in this place.

Four of us went for a pre-theatre meal and were all extremely disappointed. Two of us had calamari (main course size). This was overcooked and dried up. The other two had pasta dishes which were no more than OK. No offer of cheese on the pasta or black pepper. Service rather slow although we had made it clear we wanted a quick turnround. Will npot be going again

We popped in here before a G-live event in the mood for a pizza and pasta share.Being a sucker for calamari - even though it is normally served in this country out of a frozen bag and tasteless - we ordered it in the hope it would be fresh and taste of something. It was absolutely gorgeous! It tasted of the sea, was succulent, juicy, not in the least bit rubbery.. 10 out of 10. We'll be back to order the large portion!The pizza (pepperoni) was very tasty and the crust was nice and thin. Next time I'll ask for some chillis or jalapenos as I normally like an american hot type of zing. The spaghetti carabonara was very tasty. It had a very strong onion taste to the sauce - not really the usual carabonara.. but still very tasty. Service was quick and pleasant. The bottle of malbec was also gorgeous.Thank you.

It’s great to have a new(ish) independent family restaurant in Guildford and thought it was time to try it. I think the family need to come and work out what’s going wrong here. The service is poor - not attentive, don’t know the menu, don’t bring tap water, rush everything. The food is average at best and not as per the menu - things missing, poorly cooked, the chicken tasted odd and I’m expecting not to feel great tomorrow. And weirdly no atmosphere in the restaurant at all. It’s a shame as zizzi and pizza express are significantly better - but are chains. Lots of things wrong here and a real lack of care over customers or the food - sadly this restaurant won’t last.

We went to Zucchini last night reccomended by my daughter who visited a few months ago & were really looking forward to it.First impressions of the restaurant were good it was clean & comfortably furnished but that’s where it stopped. The customer service was appalling. The staff were abrupt & our drinks were full of ice which was not requested. No water was offered despite glasses being on the table. We waited 45 minutes for 2 undercooked pizzas to arrive. The seafood on mine was cold, it was soggy in the middle & the olives I had requested as an additional topping were absent. No pepper was offered or on the table (in fact we had 2 salts). We tried in vain for a long time to attract the attention of our waitress who was stood with her back to us at the serving counter talking to the kitchen staff. Eventually we asked another waiter who called her. She merely responded sorry I must have forgotten to write it down & walked off before I could respond.On receiving our bill the olives were on it as an additional charge! We asked for this to be removed & complained about the quality of the food. The waitress then shouted at us & told us they are busy (only 8 tables were occupied at this time) & all working hard. She then went to the kitchen & we saw her pointing at us talking to the chef. The 2 couples to the right of us also complained about the slow service & quality of food too. The lady on the next table also said her pizza was undercooked & hoped not to have a stomach ache later!Avoid this restaurant is my advise

Terrible is the only word to describe it. Service was shocking. Food took ages to arrive. Staff were clueless. Food arrived burnt. Toilets were filthy!

My partner and I came out late Tuesday Evening. We went here as we was told it was a new restaurant and we always like trying out somewhere different. We fancied just having deserts. We weren't allowed to just have this without buying a three course meal. I asked the manager and the Owner if this was the case and was told to leave if I wasn’t having a main. I felt so disrespected in front of the staff and customers that We took the time to come here to experience what they have to offer. They had nothing to offer us other than rudeness!!!!

Regretfully I didn't complain at the time pfy visit as I  was treating my 10 year old son to a night out at  G-Live and didn't want to spoil his treat by berating the staff and complaining about the food.We were pushed for time so ordered only mains and opted for the pasta to speed up the service as recommended by the waiter.We ordered seafood linguine and linguine with meatballs and ciabattaWhen my meatballs arrived I was immediately taken with the amount of sauce.I wish I'd taken a picture as the plate was swimming in sauce.  The dish really did look like Heinz spaghetti from a tin.  Unfortunately, it also tasted like it.The pasta was so overcooked, soft and flabby, and the sauce  and no depth and was primarily salty.  The meatballs were dense and plain tasting not a hint of fresh herbs or any texture of the meat they were made from.  I did get a couple of chips of bone though, which was not very pleasant.The seafood linguine, my son was very happy with this as there certainly was a lot of seafood, but it was again swimming in sauce and the pasta was again overcooked.  The sauce appeared to be from the same pot as the metabllls only with more garlic and onion added to fortify it. If it were my order I would have sent it back, but again I wasn't about to rain on his parade.The ciabatta was dried out.  perhaps it was meant to be toasted, but it was white with no hint of being grilled and only looked slightly stale.We ordered an Appletise and diet coke .My son got his appletise but I was served a full-fat coke.  We also ordered Tap water for the table which never materialised.Avoid this place at all costs

I wish we'd read the most recent reviews rather than looking at the overall rating before we went here. We were on our way to. Zizzi for a quick family pizza after bowling, but saw Zucchini which I'd seen was no.1 for pizza in Guildford. Went in an the restaurant which was quiet but it was quite early and had a pleasant decor. Drinks ordered and came quite quickly. Next, one of the four waiters came to take our food order. He was quite sullen but took our orders, within a few minutes, another waitress returned to say that he had taken down my husband's order as something beginning with G and she wasn't sure what it was - it was Calazone! This seemed odd but she was pleasant enough and we didn't think anymore about it! A different member of staff again brought the two starters we'd ordered to share (bread and calamari) no offer of side plates until we asked for them. She seemed pretty clueless about waiting tables altogether. The calazone was quite dry and tough on the outside, I had chicken arrabbiata - not a massive portion, it had obviously sat under the hot plate as it was dry on top (not too bad when you stirred it) but tasted like a ready meal with pr-eformed chicken, an ok spice level, it was edible but not particularly enjoyable, the kids loved their pizzas. We had to ask for black pepper, and were not offered parmesan with the pasta. After that the plates were cleared and we were offered dessert to be told no tiramisu (fair enough), we ordered two of the mini desserts with coffee and one sticky toffee pudding with custard. My daughter ordered a peppermint tea instead of a coffee. Waitress disappeared and then came back to say they didn't have peppermint tea, so we ordered normal tea, the two coffees arrived but no dessert to eat with it. Coffee was tepid. Had to chase the puddings, which were sickly sweet and pretty horrible. By now we were fed up and asked for the bill, the "nicer" waitress brought it over and we explained that we were really unhappy with the service and that the food was very hit and miss, she was very apologetic however laughing nervously about it, which wasn't a great reaction, and said what could she do to compensate. We explained that it was our first time and to be honest we would be unlikely to return. We paid the bill and it was £95 for four of us (only soft drinks) ... so not the cheapest and the final nail in the coffin. She put it through the card machine and handed it to my husband to pay a gratuity which he quietly declined. My daughter was finishing her tea and once again the waitress came over and apologised and started clearing glasses and our dessert plates. My husband very politely asked are you desperate for the table (literally there were four tables filled in the whole restaurant), he suggested she left everything so we could finish up and leave in peace! I would never go back and would like to warn to stay away. The good reviews earlier on were obviously under different management/ownership!!!

The place was suspiciously quiet on news years eve whilst other places were fully booked - I've come to realise why. The garlic bread with cheese was a pasty imitation of the real thing - microwave ready. As for the fish stew £17.95 for a few shrimps, mussels, clams and hake can hardly be described as authentic food at pocket friendly prices. The staff seemed very inexperienced with Italian cuisine and we left as very unhappy customers, with no acknowledgement from them.

Soon after opening in Guildford Zucchini was rated #2 by T A? I had to go! Average, with good service, tasty food, small portions and above average prices. I could hardly justify #2 as there are many more interesting Italian restaurants in town that stood the test of time. Now under new management/ownership its #9? I tried again! It’s not a scratch on what was Zucchini. Shop around.

Went in with my friend at 5:40 as it opened. We were the only people in the restaurant and staff seemed rude and unbothered. Myself and my friend were polite and thanked them for their service and they just pulled faces at us. Food portions were small and the mussels tasted off.

The food was just ok but the service was really awful and the confusion was embarrassing (us for them) - there were 5 of us and as each drink was prepared it was brought individually to the table with missing mixers and certainly not to the people who ordered them - lots of shuffling about across the table. The same spasmodic procedure followed with the mains and finally the desserts - some of them wrong with a syrup sponge instead of sticky toffee pudding and very obvious limited knowledge of the difference between a cappuccino and an Americano! Throughout the meal there was anxiety about my guests’ allergies and the restaurant’s degree of incompetence across all issues including no gluten free bread (with no upfront admission they had none). Note the restaurant was the only one almost empty in Guildford tonight - we should have twigged! Never again.

Recently visited zucchini with a group of friends,We turn up without a booking but the manage was so helpful and arrange a large table for us straight away, food was amazing and staff were so friendly and helpful, good quality food, nice atmosphere, everyone loved their dishes, highly recommended and definitely will go back again

Have visited a number of times since it opened last year, the food has been very good and it’s important to support our local independent businesses.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and friendly service. The prices were very reasonable, and despite a busy shift, the restaurant was still very clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend!

Yummy food friendly staff but no a place to go before theatre as we had to wait an hour for main even though the restaurant was not that busy and we was the second customers in at 5.30, we then rushed to eat coat on and go. Shame as lovely food.

Food is also delicious, service is a little slow but it's not the end of the world if you don't mind waiting.

We booked this for our works Christmas night out going by the reviews I thought it would be worth a try and stay away from the high street chains.

Really liked it but only half full and quite quiet

Family run Italian, with a good connection to fresh seafood supplier in Cornwall. Somewhere between a pizzeria/pasta joint and family bistro, in a restful decor with walls FULL of photos. Attentive friendly service. Recommend the hake dishes, seafood stew, lasagna, and small plates whitebait, prawn, baby squid. In the age of screw tops, it would be a good idea to offer a wider range of wines by the glass (current range limited and boring). Prices for starters, pizzas, pasta are mid-range, for meal dishes more fine dining.

Visited saturday lunchtime with friends. Initial staff interaction was good with desire to yo take drinks order promptly. Declined from there. Waitress was dressed inappropriately for waiting tables. She was not equipped with the skills to treat customers with friendly respect.

A relaxing evening enjoying fresh ingredients in a wonderful meal. Very attentive, helpful friendly staff. A real treat.

Went to this restaurant with family including children, the menu looked very good and they had a good children’s menu. The service was very good and the food was well presented and delicious. Would definitely visit this restaurant again when we are in Guildford again.

We had dinner here on a Friday night - calamari were excellent as were the mussels. They have a very nice gin list and the sticky toffee pudding is fantastic.

We visited Zucchini just after it opened and had a great meal. However when we returned it was so different.

Friendly owner who feels passionately about the quality and sustainability of the food that she and her husband offer. On a high street with chain restaurants and similar menus, this was a breath of fresh air. LOVED my crab linguine and fellow guests raved about their mains too.

A complete rip-off. Bad service, food as bland as the name of the restaurant, watery "cocktail". I've had better Italian microwave meals from Sainsburys, which is ironic because their ingredients taste as if they come from a cheap supermarket.

Thoroughly underwhelming. Service got worse as the place got busier. Food is overpriced and nothing special, at best. At worst, a complete rip off. Go to one of the many authentic Italian restaurants in Guildford instead.

The front of house team are very hospitable, the decor and atmosphere is pleasant but unfortunately the main event: the food, is less than extraordinary. I had the med veg pasta and it was a small portion, overcooked veg and something I could have made at home which defeats the object of coming out. The cost was not comparable to the quality received. The other meals on the table were also ok - lasagne in particular was poor. Please look at your menu and offerings and improve or else I wouldn’t come again. Vegetarian offerings are also lacking.

Seated quickly, attentive staff. Food was very tasty and the bill was very reasonable. Would recommend to others.

I had Linguine arrabiata and it’s the best one i’ve ever tasted! Perfect size portion, not to small and not to big. Very friendly and serviceminded staff. Highly recommanded.

After reading some excellent reviews on here, we booked this restaurant for a pre theatre meal.

After reading such positive reviews, we couldn't have been more disappointed with our experience on Friday evening. Out of 4 things I tried to order, 3 weren't available - unusual for a Friday, when you'd expect the kitchen to be stocked ready for the weekend ahead. NO questions asked about gluten allergy/intolerance and no alternatives recommended/suggested when items were unavailable, as you'd expect from a decent restaurant. The meals themselves weren't anything to write home about, which I'm sure was shared by the adjacent table whose desserts were served stone cold. Service was lacklustre and uninspired, so we weren't willing to linger longer than we had to - as the restaurant was quiet, you'd think the staff would've had more time to be attentive. We won't be returning.

A modern restaurant with lovely friendly staff. We ordered Pizza as we were going to G Live and were pushed for time. It was the best pizza we have had outside of Italy! Wish we could have stayed for dessert but will definitely come back.

Me and my family had an amazing meal last week at zucchini, Maia Bailey gave us outstanding service and made the whole time very enjoyable.

The food tastes fantastic, especially the Sottile pizzas! The staff were great and Hannah went above and beyond expectations so we had a lovely time. Thank you!

Badly let down by the restaurant being unexpectedly closed for the afternoon when we had booked several days in advance for my child's birthday party meal. It was explained that the manager had closed it for 'personal reasons' and someone had tried to call us, but the number they wrote down when taking the booking was obviously wrong and so they couldn't notify us. Trying to re-arrange a new venue for the birthday meal last minute was extremely stressful and the last thing we needed on for what was meant to be a happy celebration.

Nice quiet restaurant with good service

This was the best restaurant that I have been in really long time, we were missing a good restaurant like this in Guildford...the best Italian that I ate fantastic service, lovely staff I really recommend. I had fish that was extremely fresh and the tomato sauce is home made fresh simple delicious. I will definitely come back.

Wow, I truly didn’t think that this restaurant could get any better. The food here was always 10/10 but in the past couple of weeks the food has become at least an 11/10. You truly must book a table here and visit the amazing staff at this world class Italian restaurant. My wife and I are so sad that we don’t live within walking distance anymore but we will certainly be making the 250 mile drive back to Guildford just for your food! I can’t explain how amazing it is!

This is the 4th time we’ve visited zucchini, it will be the last. We really do want to support local independents and after waiting 5 mins to be the first customers on a sat night we were disappointed.

Booked this restaurant because of Trip Adviser position and we were not disappointed. Great to see “Proudly Independent “ sign on the door. Great menu choices - we both choose the Tuscan Fish Stew - simply delicious - we will be back. ( tip - do book we were sat in the window and can’t tell you how many “walk / ins” were turned away because the restaurant was fully booked).

We had our first visit there late Sept and it won't be our last, gorgeous food made with fresh high quality ingredients and professionally prepared takes this restaurant above so many others that we've tried, the staff were lovely, as was our waitress, the super cool Anna thoroughly recommended, I'm already looking forward to our next visit there additionally, a few reviews mentioned prices, I found Zucchini to be very fairly priced as to the quality of the food and service, if you want cheap eats get yourself a buy one get one free frozen pizza from Tesco, lol

We visited zucchini after reading rave reviews and wanting to support a local independent business. Unfortunately our experience was pretty terrible! The restaurant was quite quiet on a weekend lunchtime, yet we had to get our own menus off the bar, drinks were slow to be offered, the people that walked in behind were served first, all forgivable! But the food was unfortunately some of the worst, I cannot believe the meatballs are homemade and were in a watery tomato sauce, we had to leave it unfortunately it was inedible. The calzone was poor at best too unfortunately and massively undercooked and doughy. We’re glad we tried it but will go back to supporting the other independent Italian restaurants in Guildford.

Fabulous food. All fresh cooked. Owner told us crab and hake had been fresh from Cornwall overnight. It certainly tasted very fresh and flavoursome. Staff were lovely. Good coffee. Even local Hogsback bottled beer (TEA).

Lovely food and friendly and helpful service. Main dish portion was moderate in size which suits some lighter eaters but I could have eaten more. Zucchini Waffle desert however was enormous and made up for it.

Had a amazing meal, they have a large selection of gluten free options, staff friendly and helpful, can't wait to go back

A work colleague and I went there to try it out as my work colleague has heard good things about this place.

Really lovely Italian restaurant. The Cornish Lady who runs the place with her husband is delightful and spent lots of time chatting with us. The food was very tasty, great carbonara, delicious crab linguine and the fish stew was excellent too.

The food and service here are exceptional. The food can be slightly pricey but for the atmosphere and food it is defiantly worth it. Special note to the waitress Melissa for her extremely welcoming presence

Dinner last night, first time, not sure what made people in previous reviews say they have the best fried squid in Surrey but I couldn’t agree less, it was just ordinary.

Linguine gamberoni - the sauce got all over my white shirt due to me eating it so fast! Delish! I also love their green initiative. I'm all about sustainability. Great service, good drinks - I'd definitely come back!

Service was prompt, polite, and reasonably fast. The garlic cheese bread starter was good, chicken pesto penne main was good 7 or 8 out of 10, and the cinnamon waffle dessert was really good. We spent about £50 for a starter, two mains, dessert, and two gin & tonics.

We visited the restaurant as a family of six to celebrate my sons birthday. What an amazing find, we were greeted and made to feel very welcome by one of the owners who explained the menu and told us that the seafood is fresh every day and comes from Cornwall.

Went here for birthday dinner, the food was amazing probably the best Calamari I have ever eaten. However service did let it down hence 4 rating, they quality of the food made up for it though.

Yes, it's an Italian restaurant and the menu looks much the same as similar places right down to the dolcetti but this is a step up in quality.

Spur of the moment booking, travelling from Devon to Oxted, and I'm so pleased we stopped here. The food was superb, lovely and fresh. Not a complicated menu, but that means the food is really well cooked. The service was friendly and unhurried.

As a party of five, each of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service was great. The Zucchini Special pizza was delicious! We will definitely be back.

I booked a table for two this bank holiday (August) as it was our 20th wedding anniversary. I am so very happy I did. From the very moment Hannah answered the phone I knew we were in good hands. We arrived at Zucchini’s Saturday evening to be warmly welcomed by our waitress for the evening, Anna. What a ‘gem’ Anna is, fabulous service always with a smile & chat, she also made our dessert for us - a huge waffle covered in delicious toppings. Hannah & her husband who run the business are so very warm & interesting, really good at what they do. Delicious food - bruschetta & mushroom starters, crab linguine to follow, excellent! We were seated by the ‘Gangster’ wall of fame, Hannah’s collection of photographs (& knowledge of each one) really is a treat. We will definitely return when we are next in Guildford. I commend Zucchini’s for excellent cuisine & an all round enjoyable experience. Thank you from both of us.

Great independent restaurant. Will be back!

I simply don’t get all the hype - this place isn’t bad but it’s very average. Okay the food is fresh and well cooked - but isn’t that the least you would expect. Bruschetta fresh and good - fish stew was adequate . Some reviewers seem to think that the place is better than the other ( excellent) Italian restaurants in Guildford- all I can say is that they must have unusual tastes. Our son who is fluent in Italian and has spent a season translating cookery classes in northern Italy was not overly impressed and only thought it was okay which compared to recent meals in both Positano and Olivio could not have been more of a stark contrast. Too be honest the place feels like a chain - whoever designed the menu and website would seem to think the place was a cowboy burger joint given the choice of typography.

We booked this restaurant on the basis of all the good reviews and were not disappointed. From the moment Hannah quickly came over to discuss the menu and explain about the fresh fish from Cornwall on learning we love seafood, we knew we were in for a treat. This is a restaurant where no detail is spared - to decor, customer service, menu, ambience but above all the food. We just missed the last crab linguini so opted for the two hake dishes. The flavours complemented each other perfectly in each while still enabling the deliciously fresh fish to be the star! This Italian with a focus on fish is just what Guildford needs. We will haste ye back and call in advance to request the crab!

I have been mislead by so many positive reviews. I’d would not call the restaurant Italian restaurant, but rather an adaptation of Italian food to English taste. Staff very kind and nice.

My husband and I thought we would try this restaurant for his birthday and we were not disappointed.

This is now my third or fourth visit since Zucchini opened in Guildford. I am now convinced enough about the consistency and quality of this establishment to write a review.

We have enjoyed several lunches here, as a couple, with friends and with family. This is a family run restaurant and Hannah and Philippe are very welcoming hosts. The food is excellent and the fish is brought up fresh from the coast every day. You might have to wait for your meal, as it is freshly prepared, but we have never had to. The wide range of dishes suits palettes of all ages, and the home made tiramisu is a particular favourite of my husband's. The prices are competitive and the portions are generous. If you have a special request, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are attentive, well trained, and efficient. We recommend this lovely restaurant highly.

Loved it, the seafood is sensational and a great atmosphere! I regularly come here and it’s always lively and enjoyable.

Fed up with eating the same food everywhere else, come here and enjoy food that is made with love and actually tastes fantastic too. My favourite is the meatballs. The staff welcome you in and Hanna and Philippe enjoy serving you their take on the beautiful foods. Enjoy

Finally a fabulous restaurant in Guildford! My family loved our first lunch at Zucchini today. My husband said his calamari was the best he’d ever eaten. My hake was delicious and had been freshly caught in Cornwall that morning. The gelato and tiramisu were also fabulous. The staff were very attentive and passionate about the food they were serving. We look forward to returning very soon.

Second visit to this lovely restaurant - fantastic! First of all and most importantly, the food is out of this world!! The staff could not be more efficient and friendly and the atmosphere is really lovely, do NOT miss this independent restaurant!

Came here when visiting Guildford and have said this restaurant was the highlight of the trip. Never felt more welcome in a restaurant. Please open one in the North so i can visit more often. Tried calamari for the first time and I am so glad I did.

We visited as a family of five and were not disappointed by the variety on the menu and the quality of the food. In particular my pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had.
