Shardana in Guildford

Hidden gem! I’ve walked past this many times over the years and finally popped in for a pizza. Wow, blown away! The food, the service and staff were amazing. Priced extremely well, I won’t be visiting anywhere else for pizza in Guildford now. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

Food was amazing - staff very friendly and attentive! I had calamari to start which was light and tender and so tasty. Had clam pasta for main which was one of the best ones I’ve had in forever, so fresh and light. Our whole meal was delicious.

Have been very pleased both times I went. Impressive choice of plant based/vegan dishes. Also caters to gluten free just note there is a small extra charge for this. Delicious food, fairly priced and good service. My go to place now, would recommend.

haven't been since February due to illness. Returned today and everything wonderful as always. The Gamberoni and Tagliatelli superb - my friend had her usual panzanella again perfetto. The best Italian in Guildford, service, food, atmosphere wonderful

My daughter and I came to this restaurant as a last minute choice. It was Friday night and it was busy with a good atmosphere, but the owner managed to squeeze us in. We were not disappointed - we were settled at our table and immediately asked if we wanted a drink which was delivered in good time. We ordered our pizzas and I have to say that mine was probably one of the best I have had in a long time. My daughter was also very pleased with hers. Pudding was not an option as were were so full from the beautifully tasting pizza! Thank you to all staff including chef(s)

Great independent Italian restraunt

Shardana is a bustling restaurant and always smells delicious when we walk past. We enjoyed a nice evening there. The smoked duck starter was a highlight and the pizzas were generous with toppings. Worth a visit for tasty, uncomplicated food which delivers.

Have not been for a few years and will not go again for another few years. Wife cooks far better spaghetti bolognese than this restaurant. Still too noisy for comfort . Lacks atmosphere. The bread was very english and tasteless. Service vg

A warm Italian welcome and amazing food. The *best* carbonara ever (we were advised it was authentic, rich) and beautiful aubergine dish. Would absolutely recommend and return. Perfetta!

The handmade pasta was amazing. Al denté, cooked to perfection, the sauce was silky and emulsification done well, with lots of spices and onions. The clams were fresh, sweet, succulent. Overall a lovely dish for my Tuesday night. Bonus point is it is dog friendly and staff were friendly and courteous. Overheard a conversation between a customer and the chef enquiring about a table on the weekends. The chef answered every single question the customer had over potential allergens in each dish with great detail, and when the client was not sure the staff explained with great patience. The client facing attitude was superb. A side note my dog’s insta is @bichon.mirabelle. 🐾

Ordered 2 starters and 3 mains. They forgot to bring one starter and got one main wrong, No apologies and clearly didn’t care, as we asked for the service charge to be removed, and they didn’t question why? Food very average and greasy, chain Italians are better which is unusual.

After not visiting this place for literally years we had lovely meal there 2 Fridays in a row. Nice pizza and wine

Great food but there’s an Italian lady who is a bit grumpy and mean. Overall worth going to though. Was hard to find it due to lack of signs and directions.

I had my visit during the lunch time. Though there were no many other guests, waiter was rather slow & we had to wait to get the bill and pay. I liked the food and admired the owner - she came to have a small talk to us :)

We had a lovely dinner at Shardana. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, and came up quickly. Dessert was delicious too!

So glad we have discovered this gem. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious, authentic Italian at reasonable prices and there is an interesting wine menu too. My husband is a big pizza eater and declared the pizza he had here one of the best he's ever tried. We will be back

First visit, lovely big, fresh pizzas. I ordered a glass of red too which ended up down the waiter, but was quickly replaced. A lovely little gem hidden away in the town centre, definitely worth searching for.

A Hidden Gem in Guildford We stumbled upon Shardana one evening, and it turned out to be a fabulous family-run restaurant. The Italian cuisine here is absolutely delicious, surpassing other Italian eateries we’ve tried in Guildford. Although I regret not capturing any food photos, the taste and hospitality left a lasting impression. The staff deserves a special mention. The young girl who served us was incredibly friendly and helped us choose the perfect dishes. But the highlight was our chat with Mary, who shared the captivating story behind Shardana. Learning about Sardinia and its rich culture from her was a delightful experience. Mary’s warm hospitality makes us eager to go back again soon. Highly recommended! 👌

My girfriend and I were regulars at Shardana before we moved to Colorado 5yrs ago. Visiting the UK last week I detoured on the way down to North Wales to North London just to have one of their excellent home made lunches again. It was well worth the effort as Mary and Michelle always produce fresh, well made food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They are geniune, fantastic people who care deeply about the food they make, and the service that they provide. Divyaraj my wait staff was a fine young man, extremely polite, efficient and a credit to the other wonderful staff who also work there. Lunchtime has always been quiter as most people don't get the hour for lunch that you would need in order not to be rushed, but they do provide a Just Eat delivery service direct to your home or workplace so you can have delicious, fresh made food whenever you want. Exquisite After a long day at Pirbright Army Training Camp ‘Pass Off’ ceremony and a daunting 3 hour drive home, my family and I were very hungry. Having been recommended Shardana, I made a call to enquire about a table for 8. I was apprehensive given such a large party, and needing the table to be ready for an hours time. However, I was so pleasantly surprised when I spoke to the member of staff who said he could fit us in. How lucky we were! The building and decor are beautiful, the staff were all extremely friendly and attentive, and the food was exquisite. The fabulous chef was given our order of 5 pizzas, and 3 calzones and within 30 minutes all 8 of us were tucking in. The pizza I ordered was the best I have ever had - by far - gorgeous burst of flavours. To be honest, I’m gutted that we live 3 hours away otherwise I’d be back in a heartbeat. If I’m ever in Guildford again, Sardana’s will be my first port of call. Thank you to everyone at Sardana’s for our wonderful food and experience

I have just received a pizza from them by delivery. Cold is just the start, barely any toppings, small, toppings only in centre, cooking instructions not followed. I threw it in the bin.

Having been here during lockdowns and had great socially spaced and necessarily low key atmosphere meals, wanted to repeat the excellent food and service, but in more normal times. Opportunity arose to meet friends for a post-Chritsmas meal, and it did not disappoint. Great service again, and top quality Italian food and wines.

After a long time we had a very authentic culinary tour of Italian dishes at Shardana, loved every dish that we ordered. Believe it was Mary who spoke to us and what a lovely chat we had where she explained how few of the dishes were inspired by her mum.

Really lovely Italian food. Hats off to the staff, they make you feel incredibly welcome and you can tell they pride themselves on their friendly service. We will be back soon!

Shardana is the best family business ever. I have known the family since I was younger than 1. The food is always authentic and fresh and is hard to decide what to have with an extensive menu of pasta, pizza and a fab grill menu. The family experience is second to none. Family atmosphere is brilliant along with fantastic family friendly service. There is a reason as a family we keep coming back to the restaurants run by the Lecca family and I will always take family and friends to Shardana.

My partner and I came here on the 13th. I had visited once 10 years ago, and couldn't remember much of the menu. But it seemed ok. The restaurant became fairly busy for a Tuesday evening, and it was clear the waiter on floor was struggling with capacity. I ordered the tagliatelle Bolognese and my partner the carbonara. It was dreadful. The carbonara was the worst my partner and myself have tasted in this country - and being Italian myself, I really hoped for more. My tagliatelle was also overcooked. The waiter came over after we ate around half, and asked if we had finished and if everything was ok, I left it for my partner to tell the waiter she didn't like the carbonara and what was wrong with it. He simply said 'we do it the proper Italian way, we do not use cream' and nothing else. I attempted to converse with him in Italian about it, but he walked off being busy... apparently. He even spoke to the chef, and came back with no other words or apology. He knows I'm Italian and knows I know my food, as the waitress knew I also have a restaurant. This was the worst experience of any relative Italian food I have had in this country. And the way the waiter handled our complaint was terrible. I have never been met with such hostility in hospitality. We won't go back.

The absolute best Italian I've ever had, by far. Mary is a generous host and the love this family pours into their food is evident from the first bite. Their pasta is made fresh and there's a fantastic selection of wines to compliment the food. New dishes have recently been added to the menu, but you don't have to worry about choosing - anything you have will be amazing!

Lovely food and reasonably priced. Had some issues with some of my group and the attitude from one of the waiters; he was saying something along the lines of 'well you should have already found out how much you owe' at the end of the meal. Apparently he was also arguing with the group behind us. Despite this, would go back again.

I booked after a recommendation from a colleague. Did not disappoint, staff were friendly and in good spirits, food was fresh, hot and large portions, staff were attentive and took empty plates quickly. Will definitely return. Thank you

I visited this restaurant with friends for my birthday because I knew the food was good authentic Italian. Unfortunately we were let down by one rude waiter which was a shame as the food was delicious. Upon arriving we asked if two more people could come in. Begrudgingly the waiter agreed but said it wasn't ideal as all tables were booked . (They weren't, there were plenty of empty ones around and throughout our meal.) This waiter seemed very stressed and irritated generally. Unfortunately there was confusion over a meal ordered and he then proceeded to have a shouting match with one of my friends, accusing them of the mistake. It was bizarre and very embarrassing. It was my birthday and in spite of asking for a dessert and candle , nothing was acknowledged. Maybe he was having a bad day but judging by other comments on reviews, this isn't the first time. Such a shame because the food is really lovely

We walked in and were greeted by what we think was the manager - told me I hadn’t book a table (which I had) even though there was nobody in the restaurant, so I didn’t really see the problem. We ordered drinks and he then asked us to order our food even though we had only been there for about 10mins as he said he didn’t want to keep walking back and forth to our table! So I asked for the bill and said we were going to leave and he said no you can stay. So I asked for the bill and left.

A lovely Italian restaurant in a good location. The staff are very efficient and attentive. I had the Mafaldine, a super pasta dish with prawns. Others had pizzas, which they said were very good.

Best food in Guildford! My go to restaurant to celebrate with friends and family. Great atmosphere with delicious food! The pizza and pasta are the real thing! My favourite is the Siciliana pizza (tomato, capers, anchovy and garlic)- in the picture I asked for cheese to be added. I usually go for the homemade tiramisu and sometimes the cheesecake. Had most of the pastas, always tastes fresh and packed with flavour. Never disappointed with food or service, best restaurant hands down!

Haven't been to the Shardana for a very long while but booked last evening for a jazz evening. Excellent atmosphere and the food was especially good considering it was so busy and everyone wanted to eat around the same time. Service, food and ambience all excellent. Music was also very good and made for a fun evening. Hope to be back very soon.

Stumble on this restaurant during a weekend break with the Mrs. We arrived just before 1800 and were greeted our server, who o thought looked like Lionel Messi with glasses! He gave us a warm and friendly welcome & he was knowledgeable about the menu and the beers on the menu. A big Thank you to him. The food and the service was amazing. If we’re back in town, We would definitely visit again

Great food - very fresh and full of flavour. The issue on this occasion was the service - there was plenty of staff but they seemed inexperienced and a bit disorganised. Fior example, a waiter broke a glass while pouring beer, shared a loud expletive and didnt do a 100% clean -up job. Also, we waited for ages to have our mains plates cleared while a couple of waitresses semed to be standing around.

We went for my wife's birthday and were keen to be somewhere to please a group of eleven ranged between 6 and 72 years old. We sat outside and had a very relaxed lunch which everyone enjoyed hugely. The service was friendly and attentive.

Delicious food🍽, very friendly service, all the staff were very attentive and efficient even though they had a huge table of guests, everyone in the restaurant was beautifully looked after. We had a local Italian we loved when we first moved to Guildford and the people there were wonderful and the food was great! One day we couldn’t get a table and unfortunately for them we found the shardana and Mary (the chef)! This is as authentic as it gets and we have nearly made our way through the whole menu! Traditional Italian cooking with the best service to match! Highly recommend! We come here every other week and we wouldn’t go anywhere else now!

Most amazing restaurant in Guildford owned by the most loveliest of people. Everything was top notch; the welcome, the service, the food and the wine. For starters we had bread and olives with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. We both had ravioli with mushrooms (the best I've ever had and I have this in every Italian restaurant we go to), paired with a bottle of Silenzi Rosso 2019 and for desert we had homemade tiramisu (amazing - I normally hate this option but it was delicious) and raspberry and chocolate truffle. The owner of the restaurant very kindly advised me on how to make pasta to surprise my girlfriend, gave me a secret recipe for the sauce and advised on the wine (he's a professionally trained sommelier, of course he is!). All in all, exceeded our expectations and, although we're new to the area, we already know we will become regulars! Thank you so much to everyone for a wonderful night.

What a cracking little fund! Was checking into my hotel when I heard a couple saying that they had visited this place so thought I’d give it a. try. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Fantastic ambience, all Italian staff from what I could tell and food was superb. Evening was capped off when the lady chef (owner?) came out of the kitchen to chat with the paying guests. Will definitely be back!!

having been to italy it takes exceptional pasta or pizza to get impressed nowadays (wow sounds snobbish, but hey this surrey). Unfortunately, although the service and decor are nice, the food is simply just OK. The calamari starter was alright but anything deepfried in batter is always going to taste fine. But look at the ravioli in my picture. Looks like something my dog vomited up. Who on earth thought that was OK to serve?

On a quiet weekday summer's evening things all pretty laid back. Had the Shardana pizza, a combo I hadn't tried before and it was excellent. Service friendly and not overbearing, prices good. Would definitely return, should I ever be marooned in Guildford again.

You could easily miss Shardana given its location down an alleyway. What greets you is a clean and bright space, complimented by smiley staff - I particularly enjoyed the humour of The Don. Very convivial. Food itself was fine although didn’t knock my socks off. Worth a try.

Small independent restaurant tucked away just off Upper High Street. Great food, service and atmosphere. Have a food allergy/intolerance? - no problem. Everything is cooked from scratch so they can adjust the recipe if needed, just ask!

The staffs are very helpful and attentive. But despite being identified as an Italian restaurant, some dishes have a reinterpretation of the house.
