I ordered here for a large lunch party for an 80th birthday party. The staff were brilliant, couldn’t have been better! It was reasonably priced, and delicious

I was very impressed with the chicken kebab . It was crammed full of tasty chicken tikka ,with no fat or gristle ,and lots of salad.i couldn't fault it and I noticed a big improvement in the quality of the chips . I'll be back.

Once again, our group used the Laughing Halibut for our fish and chips supper for our quiz night. As before, nearly 40 portions of fish and chips were provided in a timely fashion. Good quality, generous portions and hot. Thank you

So friendly and accommodating here! they opened their fish and chips side of the restaurant for us after they had already closed. amazing service and amazing food here. i really recommend this restaurant.

Provided a fish and chip lunch for a party of 12, excellent quality of fish and tasty chips, freshly cooked on time and enjoyed by all.

Oh Dear!! Ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips and a battered burger. It took over 20 minutes to get the food and it was awful, chips were dry and tasteless. Fish wasn’t great and the sausage was average, dry and tasteless. The battered burger was served as no burger but a chopped up battered sausage in a burger bun and was foul, really awful. The Indian from this restaurant is great, the two shops are attached. The fish and chips are diabolical, take ages to be served and are dry and tasteless. It was a complete waste of money but I only ate it as it as I was so hungry. Take my advice and get fish and chips elsewhere. The Indian food is fabulous though from the linked shop. I feel they need to concentrate on that side of the business and stop selling sub-standard fish and chips that are best avoided.

best fish and chip shop in town. been going here for years and will still to this day say they do the best indian food and the fish and chips is lovely! also the staff are top tier. i always go for the chicken kebab as it never fails to impress and there is not a kebab like it . 5 stars all the way from me

Good customer service and very friendly, the food was lovely/ tasty and cooked perfect, enjoy the food every time we order. Prices are good too. Would highly recommend.

We use this fish and chip shop regularly for our annual fish and chip quiz, held in Pangbourne Village Hall. Once again, the fish and chips were excellent, nearly 60 portions provided in a timely fashion. We shall certainly use them again.

Lovely Cod and Chips last night , fish was light and fluffy with the perfect amount of batter and the chips were fresh and cooked perfectly.

Good food and great customer service. 10/10 would recommend for fish & chips, kebabs, sauages and pies.

Great portions and great tasting food. Absolutely perfect. We had the curry Naan wrap. Great value and portion! Very friendly staff also!

Poor service. They don’t write the orders down. Be prepared to wait minimum 20 minutes. Lacking on portion sizes. Ordered large cod and large chips, kids meal had more chips! Curry sauce a no no!!

My dad had to order four times and the one guy working still got it wrong, he did not sell any type of sauce and all food was disgusting. The chicken nuggets we got were made of fish and the chips were nasty and soggy. Had to wait so long for such a horrible meal. DONT GO!!

Going here weekly for our kebabs, only a five for a mixed kebab.. great fish and chips too..really nice staff to, well recommend

I had Fish and Chips today in my first meal "out" since the lifting of lockdown restrictions; the quality and service are great and the portions generous, served with a smile by the lovely proprietor Ali.

This is a strange little place. My husband and I walked into an empty shop with only two pies sitting in the heater and no staff. So far so unpromising. So we shouted out and a chap came out and we placed our order. It took a while to cook but it was well worth the wait and the result was the best cod and chips I have had anywhere, anytime. And very reasonably priced. Quite eccentric little place, but fresh produce, well cooked and excellent value. Would definitely recommend.

In these strange times of no footfall, The Laughing Halibut was open at 1:45pm today (25/2/21) with no pre-cooked food in the warmers. However, the proprietor willingly prepared and produced 2 portions of the most delicious FRESH cod and 2 beautiful scampi servings along with just the most wonderfully browned chips - A genuine delight to sit in Pangbourne Meadow by the river enjoying a "winter's" afternoon at sunny 12 Degrees celcius,seperated into "bubbles" on 2 Thames-front park benches. Such a joy.The owner said he had been doing this for 22 years now, and judging by the product, he understands procurement as well as customer satisfaction. I loved it, thank you!Rest assured we will be back when times permit and I can thoroughly recommend this establishment to anyone with a taste for proper fish and chips.JG

GIve minutes walk to the river pop in. Grab fish & Chips and walk to the banks of the Thames. Enjoy said Fish & Chips. Large but not wasteful portions. freshly fried fish, classic chippy extras and options. Classic English fish and chips to go. Pergect

We have never been here before but will certainly return ! We had 2 Senior fish 'n chips and they were really excellent - the fish was white in a crispy batter, and the chips were well cooked and very crispy - just what fish 'n chips used to be like. The portion size was just right. An excellent take-away meal - thank you

We are a local organisation and we hold an annual "Fishy Quiz" in Pangbourne Village Hall for 60 people. I pre-ordered 60 portions of fish and chips, plus 2 portions of chips and arranged with Ali a time to start collecting. His team prepared our order in batches of 20, and 4 volunteers collected the fish and chips in insulated bags which we provided. The fish and chips arrived back in the hall, still hot. The portions were generous. The chips were especially good.

Soggy toddler sized fish cakes, anemic chips and greasy curry sauce!I remember this place being good many years ago, but now I will avoid at all costs! The chips were undercooked, tasteless and actually felt artificial!! The shop needs a hygiene check ASAP and so do the staff! £4 for a fish cake (picture provided to show the size and state of it) it was watery and a soggy mess. The burger was repulsive to look at, personally looked as if it was cooked several days ago and then reheated!!So if you’re a fan of everything I’ve stayed above then you’ll love this place!But if you would like to steer clear of potential food poising - AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!Sincerely,Won’t be dining again.

Five minutes before close - got in and asked for a kebab. Ali cooked two from fresh. Naan was brilliant. Tonnes of chicken and a really nice guy. Best kebab I’ve ever had!!!

If like us you hear yourself wishing that you could find a takeaway that served up fish & chips that was served up with that unique & mouth watering taste that had seemed to disappear some years back. We are happy to report & recommend that should you find yourself in Pangbourne anytime then a visit to the Laughing Halibut is a must. It is a real gem & the food is fresh, delicious & cooked to perfection. The takeaway offers a huge choice from the menu & is the best value for miles. It is kept spotlessly clean, the staff & owners are always so friendly & there are always an abundant of posters & 'flyers' in the seating area which promote everything local & is one of the best places to go to if you want to find out about local gigs, festivals & much more.

With 2 days notice the friendly staff at this chip shop arranged and delivered 50 portions of fish and chips to feed the staff on my construction site. Enjoyed by all, many thanks

It’s friday so it’s fish & chips — all cooked to order so very fresh don’t be surprised by empty display cabinets will be back next week

We needed to feed a building site (!) locally and although a big ask, fish & chips seemed an ideal solution.Ali and his family pulled out all the stops, and with the fryers at full capacity, made a miracle happen.50 guys and girls were fed by 12.30 and all of whom praised how fresh and tasty the fish was, and how un-greasy (if it’s a word) the chips, battered sausage and burgers were.Great work and not too dear either!

i was playing for pangbourne jazz club on a sunday evening finished at 10:30 and was looking for a quick meal as im driving to essex. This chip shop went above and beyond to stay open and refire the fryer for one portion of chip.the website even says ten o'clockThe chips were gorgeous fresh and crispy and the service was impecable thank you HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I give it 4 stars... The chips are very nice; you can see from the colour that the oil is changed a lot more regularly then other places which is good. The fish is almost always crispy and the curry sauce is delicious (the owners also have an Indian takeaway so it tastes like the real deal).

Standard local chippie, not the best in the world but it does the job at a reasonable price. Fish is normally nice, as are chips unless you're unlucky and get some that aren't as fresh (this is the case at any fast food restaurant that sells chips). Doesn't deserve the 1 star reviews on this site.

Such a disappointing takeaway. Undercooked chips, batter soggy and in all, horrible. Such a shame when its the only fish and chip shop in Pangbourne. It could be a gold mine.

Can't think of anything positive to say about this chip shop. Absolutely appalling all round. Cleanliness and service was terrible. Avoid this establishment at all costs !!!

Awful place. Waited 25 minutes for 4 portions of chips! Asked for salt and vinegar and didn't get any. Will not be returning.

I like the friendly service and the quick and tasty food. I have been here a few times and loved it every time that i have been there.
