Lovely Sunday lunch today - wonderful food, good wine and good service. We popped in with dogs after a walk on Leith Hill and were delighted

What a superb pub! Unbelievably good food, good selection on wine and beer. And the most beautiful accommodation in an amazing setting. Great friendly staff. Delicious breakfast included. I can’t recommend this place enough to stay and eat. Brilliant walking right from the door over Surrey Hills. We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary here and wished we could have stayed so much longer!

A lovely traditional pub, very nicely decorated and furnished, with a really nice garden, which would be great in the summer. Excellent clean toilets! We were there with a walking group, 14 for lunch. We had pre-ordered when we met at the pub in the morning before setting out for the walk. Quite normal practice for walking groups. When we arrived back for lunch a table had been set aside and laid for us with jugs of water and glasses. The food came out pretty quickly, a whole range of choices from both the main and lunch menus. The only reservation about the quality of the food was that the fish pie could have been a more generous portion. Everything else was highly rated. Very pleasant friendly efficient staff. Definitely will come back.

The most delicious lunch after a lovely walk in the Surrey Hills. The service and food were both excellent and lovely interiors in this gorgeous pub. Would highly recommend the fish pie and chocolate fondant. We will be back!

Great pub, great location , nice staff( with one little exception ) unfortunately terrible food.Definitely I will go back just for drinks .The focaccia bread had one cm and the butter twice the bread. Soup wasn’t bad but cold and on the bottom of the dish ; meatballs wet from the green garden :))) .Asked for more bread but totally ignored . 20 minutes later table was cleared with the question: “still waiting for the bread” I could only laugh and say “yes”Please get some help in the kitchen or even employ a 🧑‍🍳 chef 😂

We have been coming here on a regular basis for many months. We have never had any issues in the past, but this weekend our experience was nothing short of terrible. Firstly Katie's service was lacking considerable her attitude towards both other staff & customers fell very short of what you should expect. To be honest I would go as far as to say she way rude. We were out for a family meal as we do regularly this place used to be a top restaurant / pub be recently something has changed. Most of the family had 3 courses & although I have given a terrible rating some aspects of our recent visit were still to a high standard, both the starters & deserts for everyone were on time hot & most of all tasted lovely. Now to our less impressive main course we all opted for Roast Beef with a couple of family members wanted extras. I'm not sure how a place with an award can serve food that is cold, wrong & comes out at different times we waited over an hour for the mains. There was no apology from Katie for the wait, she just said they had a new chef & that it was busy, but when we visit the restaurant was only half full. If this is the trend going forward then it might be worth giving this place a miss fir a while. We spoke to our friends who had, had a similar experience earlier in the week. It's such a shame I don't know the reason behind needing a new chef but the food used to be exceptional now it is at best average.

My friends and I had another lovely meal here at The King’s Head. The food and service were great. It’s a beautiful old pub with a welcoming bar area, separate dining room with comfy chairs for after dinner coffee, and a nice garden too. The location is perfect for country walks in the Surrey Hills.

Very friendly & welcoming staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Excellent food with a varied menu & extensive wine list including a wine from the only wholly Māori owned vineyard. Well stocked bar with 2 real ales both in very good condition. Very well appointed & comfortable rooms.

My brother had told me that the food here was really good so we decided to try it for ourselves. The food is fantastic! We had Sunday lunch and every single item on the plate was cooked to perfection. Everything is shiny clean, including the loos (always a very good sign). The staff is amazing, very attentive and friendly (professionally so). I have now made another booking to bring a friend for his birthday and I know he will love it as we did.

Superb accommodation, beautifully clean and very comfortable, the recent refurbishment is of a very high standard. The continental breakfast was very good in a light and bright dining room overlooking a beautiful garden. The staff were friendly and helpful, would thoroughly recommend it and would definitely stay again. 10/10 for everything.

Me and my son stayed in the family accomodation (which is actually two separate rooms - really good value) and had a great dinner here, The rooms and bathroom are very nicely done and dinner was simply superb. This is such a lovely pub. We are local and have seen it go through various landlords and landladies. Some good and some not so . Its is your typical country pub , with a quirkiness which either you love or hate. All the Kings Head team are very friendly and work so hard to give you a good experience. We came to the Kings Head with the intention of just staying for a drink, but we’re enticed by the excellent menu on offer.

I'm not one for leaving such poor reviews but I feel I have to, just to warn people to not bother eating here. By all means drink, that's fine and quaint and pretty.

Love this little local pub. Super friendly, fantastic food and a great place to spend a few hours. Leah, Gerard and all the team make you feel really welcome. Dog friendly too.

Well, I’ve not got a clue what is going on with this pub, but something certainly is.

First time at this pub, and we wont be returning. Firstly, visited the ladies toilet to find that all that was left to dry your hands after washing, was toilet roll! in all my many years of frequenting pubs, this is a first! Terrible - why could they not have provided proper paper towels? The menu was presented in a very haphazard way, one blackboard in bar area, another with different items in the restaurant and one placed on the bar. As we only wanted a light lunch, the only item suitable was a "Walkers lunch" priced at £10.90 - it said that would be a selection of 3 cheeses, bread and salad. So we had imagined a ploughmans. After 30 mins, the waitress delivered us 2 baguettes - we looked puzzled and then the barman came over to say that wasn't ours. After a few mins he came over to say there had been a misunderstanding in the kitchen. Another 10 mins went by, and I asked him if if was coming soon, bearing in mind nothing needing cooking and there were only a handful of people in the whole pub. It finally arrived after a total of 45 min wait! and then to add insult to injury - all it consisted of was 3 tiny pieces of bread, sliced from a french baguette, total of 4 small slices of cheese, loads of rocket, toms, 3 tiny pickled onions and a gherkin! Certainly not value for money.

Eight of us visited on New Year's Day, so I booked a table for 1. Arrival times went wrong when half the party didn't arrive, so eventually we were all sat down at about 2:15. The owners were very good about it and made no fuss. The food was excellent, arriving at the same time, and our drinks were replenished by the waitress who was, from what I inferred, the licencee. Itr was an excellent visit and it's good to see that this lovely country pub is back in capable hands again.

We visited the pub with family & friends - we booked in advance but on arrival we got a cursory welcome as though in some way we had inconvenienced them by booking and arriving on time!!

Lovely pub, nice welcome but sadly lacking in the ability to serve food. Despite being first to order and no one else in the pub, a simple main course took 40 minutes to arrive. Ordered a sweet from a very depleted menu. Waited another 30 minutes with no sign of pud and left. Very hap hazard. A real shame

After a long walk with friends we were hoping for a lovely lunch in a welcoming, cosy country pub. Despite having reserved a table over a week in advance we were left waiting for over 1hr 30mins before we were served our meal, with 15 mins before the first and the last meal were served to our party of 8. Those served first were finished before some of us had even started! That alone was bad enough, but what was really disappointing was the lack of any sincere apology, and surly nature of the staff. We wont be returning.

We called in for a drink yesterday afternoon. Lovely little pub. Decent wine and ale very reasonably priced. Staff friendly. We were 'persuaded' (!) by one of the staff to try the homemade nettle ravioli..... it was absolutely amazing! Just one complaint..... thought it was a little bit pricey at £7.50 for 4 pieces of ravioli. But overall, a really lovely pub and we will definitely be visiting again.

Lovely environment - dog friendly and real fires. But I dont understand why there are such good reviews for food - inless it has recently changed hamds. It cost over 40 pounds for what felt like cheap frozen food. A veggie burger was definitely from frozen, and consisted mainly of potato filling. Scampi was similar - and the "home made'' dressing that was advertisrd came in a co op jar! A pizza was nice though. I'd go back for a drink but wouldn't eat there again.

My new favourite local !!! We used to be big fans of the Kings Head when we first moved into the area but it then changed hands (a couple of times) and went down hill.

This was a 2 minute walk from where I was staying so was perfect from that point of view. It was a lovely little pub with a noisy crowd of rather elderly regulars. I was the only diner and the food was adequate if rather unremarkable with rather a long list of what was not on that night.

I had seen it advertised on Facebook, looked charming so popped in for a drink. The new owner made us very welcome, pulling up chairs for us in front of the fireplace. The restaurant looked very inviting and romantic. Next time we will arrive for lunch.

Under new management and could not be more friendly and helpful. Great wine selection at good value. We popped in after a long walk with the dogs and was a delight to sit by the fire. Hemos sido visitantes frecuentes a la calle holmbury Mary durante muchos años, a menudo traen a los miembros de la familia con nosotros. En ese tiempo, hemos visto muchos cambios de titularidad en la Cabeza Reyes; algunos exitosos, algunos no tanto. El actual propietario(s) y actual chef ofrecen una muy buena selección de entradas, bien preparados. Las cervezas han sido diferentes en cada viaje, y las opciones actuales son bastante buenos. Aunque esto es probablemente más de un pub local que una que atiende a los visitantes extranjeros, fuimos calurosamente recibidos por los clientes, el chef y publican.

Nos visita este pub regularmente como uno de nuestros puestos para expediciones de nuestra escuela Dofe premio bronce. En todas las ocasiones el personal ha sido muy amable y acogedor, y han ofrecido a llenar botellas de agua y permitir que nuestros grupos pequeños a utilizar las instalaciones. La comida es buena comida de pub tradicional, con algunas interesantes ofertas. El asado del domingo es también muy sabroso con enorme Yorkshire pudines. Hay un ambiente muy agradable sobre el pub local. Ojalá viviese más cerca.

Eso lo dice! Visitamos aquí durante un paseo circular de la calle Viernes, teniendo en Leith Hill. Grupo de 7 - todos disfrutamos de un almuerzo de sopa o sándwiches abiertos en pan de centeno (cambio delicioso pan de trigo a la normal) - otras opciones disponibles. También buena opción de cervezas. El servicio era excepcional. Creo que este lugar es nuevo o nuevo de gestión, y sin duda llamar de nuevo.

I've not visited this pub for a couple of years. I had a delicious glass of red wine and the bar tender was chirpy. I was however, saddened to listen to some chap make bigoted and racist comments over and over again, really terrible for punters to have to listen to.Still a great country pub.

Good to stop by for a glass of wine and a chat with the locals. Nice walks around Holmbury St Mary and this is a good place to stop for a light Sunday lunch.

We were lucky to get a table as most of the pub was booked for Sunday lunch. We called in on the off chance during a walk and found to our delight that there have been some really good changes to the fabric of the pub. It is now more open and far more welcoming. Our food was delicious and we would definitely visit again. The deal on a Monday sounds good. The garden can accommodate lots of people and I hope that this is a job in progress. We were served by a very personable young chap who is a local. We were pleased that we arrived before the big rush.

We were holding a charity walk for over 80 people, ending with a BBQ and drinks in the Kings Head. Andy had made the garden look lovely for everyone as they arrived back, put on a smashing BBQ with delicious burgers and sausages. The veggie mushroom and halloumi option was described as 'epic' and the sides were all great too. Was a really chilled afternoon in the garden and everyone really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend working with Andy for any event. He made it really relaxed and stress free from beginning to end - we'll be back again next year!

Hard to be nice about this place! Walked in with a colleague, got ignored for a few minutes, finally got our drinks and really wanted some food. No good being served. Tired decor, unenthusiastic staff and tired squeezing furniture. Luckily we heard someone talking about another pub down the road, the Royal Oak, so one positive from it is that we found there! It was great. Avoid this place unless you are a regular, made to feel unwelcome

Lunch was much needed, half way through our Surrey hills 3 peak challenge. We think they forgot to pass our food order to the kitchen, as when one of us asked after 30-40 minutes how long we should expect to wait, we were told, without any apology, "another 15 minutes". We noticed that another group received their food well before ours despite placing their order much after ours! The food wasn't bad, but not as good as it was made out to be. The rack of ribs was rather dried out and could have done with more flavour.The experience would have been much better with a simple apology and maybe some bread to keep us going.

We stopped off for beer and baguettes after a long walk up to Leith Hill. The staff were great. Friendly and welcoming. I had a crayfish baguette. It was absolutely delicious. Lots of local ale. Lovely old interior with beams. We'll definitely return.

We decided to meet halfway between our respective houses and Holmbury St Mary was a great choice. I had driven past this pub many times but I won't be doing so in future.We sat in the garden and had a light lunch Cromer crab with saffron mayonnaise, bread and salad and Chowder. The chef sent out home made houmous and meal a toast (delicious all round). The garden was full. The staff were friendly, the bar beautifully decorated and everywhere spotlessly clean. A street ahead of most pubs - more gastro pub. Will definitely return and link with a walk around the local hills.

Visited here with my partner and two dogs, place was very dog friendly, even a jar of dog treats on the side! We both enjoyed eating our meals, I had the warm halloumi salad while my partner had the Kings burger. The meals were presented well and tasted as good as they looked! Staff were very friendly and catered to our needs despite it being quite busy. Over all great pub and would love to visit again on a more sunny day so we can enjoy the back garden!

Went there for dinner with some friends it was about an hour before our starters came and still a long wait for our mains. It was not a busy pub and bar staff seemed more interested in socialising with friends than serving customers
