Was taken to Cyder House Inn last weekend for lunch and had the most fabulous afternoon. Susan was our waitress and she was amazing. Food was the best I have eaten since moving to the UK a year ago. The chef is South African and we loved the menu! I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone looking to have a wonderful experience!

A friend and I went to The Cyder House for a mid-week lunch at the end of October. The décor in this pub is very smart, the staff very pleasant and the food was excellent. The day we went it was “Steak Thursday.” My friend had the rump steak and chips. He said it was the best steak he had had in England for a very long time. Perfectly cooked when he requested “rare.” I had the fish and chips. Once again perfectly cooked. In addition to the great food there is an excellent selection of local beers, including TEA and Hog Star Larger. This pub has several rooms and they were more than happy to re-seat us when the noisy, badly behaved and uncontrolled children at a nearby table were beginning to make our lunch experience less than pleasant! Perhaps the management should suggest to the parents that unless they can keep their children under control they will give them Red Bulls to drink and teach them rude words! I am told than for Sunday lunch it is essential to book. Recommended. I would be more than pleased to return.

Delicious food, I'm pretty fussy as we cook everything from scratch at home. Lots of pubs now serve food that's bought in from outside. Its's often hard to tell from the menu and a big disappointment when it arrives. This was all fresh, tasty and really good, I will be back and have recommended it to friends with the same standards.

We went because we know the vegan food is great, and it did not disappoint again (we had the burger, banana blossom 'fish' and squash goulash and then the orange tart). The staff were also very nice. Great to have places like this with good options! Edit: we basically come here every year for a birthday, can confirm 2 years later it's still great.

First, this is not in Godalming, but in Shackleford. I appreciate that it is the weekend but one group nearby had 2 dogs sitting on the floor behind me(another couple had the sense to leave their dog outside, and sit with it) . At another table one young boy behaved fairly badly and little control seemed placed on the child by his parents. This might be because the other adults made a huge racket. The food was generally excellent. I and my son would recommend the cheese and bacon beef burgers. The onion straws particularly make this burger. My wife’s sea bream was, apparently, rather dry. Service was good.

We were staying in the area and thought we'd try the Cyder House Inn for dinner as we were meeting a friend coming from Woking. The inn was very inviting, with a very comfortable dining room that offered us some privacy. Service was first class. For dinner I had a rump steak, which was on special. The food tasted excellent. I also enjoyed a pint of Tongham TEA - what a lovely brew. All in all, a very pleasant evening.

Tucked away in the countryside a little gem. Enjoyed food but limiting to my taste, but I am fussy eater. What I ordered was good and well presented. Service was very good staff helpful and not over powering making a relaxed atmosphere. Would like to return for a Sunday Roast as I would believe pub would be very popular, as caters for children and is dog friendly and also large outside seating space. Limited parking space but on country road so wouldn't have thought it would affect guests. Would recommend

Booked this lovely pub for our 21st Wedding Anniversary as I have passed it many a time on bike rides with my club and always thought of giving it a try. The pub is in a lovely setting in the Surrey Hills and has a lovely country/gastro pub vibe to it with good parking and spacious garden area with rattan furniture. Inside is very modern and clean, staff are super friendly and attentive, with food coming out in a very timely manner. The menu has lots to choose from with plenty of vegan options so shouldn't be issues with food selection. Drinks are of a good selection with a cocktail menu and are freshly made without pre-made syrups. All in all a great place to celebrate our anniversary and if you're not celebrating anything, a lovely place to eat and drink in the Surrey Hills.

Outstanding hidden gem. It takes a lot to leave me bowled over, but this is a wonderful countryside watering hole. The food was outstanding (we had the Sunday roast beef/pork both cooked to perfection) our 4 children ate off the children's menu which is excellently varied, my 10year old especially enjoyed her perfectly cooked medium-rare steak!) Excellent range of ciders and amazing selection of aperitifs. Service is attentive but not over bearing. For a family of 6 with drinks mains and desserts -with tip- came to £121. We went for Sunday lunch yesterday and I have to say we were left very disappointed. Alarm bells rang when we ordered our food and within 3 minutes the food arrived at our table, my partner and I both looked at each other and thought they had delivered to the wrong table. I had the vegetarian wellington which was ok, very small, the yorkshire pudding was enormous and pretty average vegetables all drenched in gravy which was very peppery. Unfortunately my partners roast beef was very grey (not pink at all) and the same as the above. Such a shame as it's a lovely venue, great staff but for what they are charging for a roast, we did feel very let down. Maybe they just had an off day but I'm not sure I have ever been anywhere to eat and the food comes out so quickly.

My first visit to this wonderfully English country pub, tucked away in Shackleford, with an interesting non-standard, South African-influenced range of menu choices. If the weather is warm enough, the outside dining area is spacious and offers a play area for children aged up to ten or so, in a separate area from diners. We chose to have our G&T outside before moving indoors for food. To start we shared the salt & pepper octopus, which was nicely seasoned and presented with a light sauce and garnished with coriander and fresh chilli pepper. Very nice. The mains were Miso Salmon for me and Burger for my partner. Both were good. Would have preferred to have seen a freshly made and seasoned burger patty, but my partner was happy with it. The salmon was generously portioned and flavoursome. Deserts were all very tempting: given my dairy intolerance, I am a little restricted, but enjoyed the donuts with a taster of the sticky toffee (& date sauce) pudding. It’s nice to see a wine list that only takes a couple of minutes to choose from. The Chardonnay was particularly wonderful, I was informed. More than happy to pay a return visit, with the staff making us feel welcome and valued customers. They looked after us well, with service nothing less than friendly and charming.

Popped in to celebrate Father’s Day a day early. I was really impressed by everything we had today, despite the fact they became incredibly busy with the local sports fixture being cancelled and everyone coming to the pub. Parking is a bit tight, but ample room on the road, so I guess turn up early if you’re desperate to get in the car park. I was apprehensive seeing some world food bits on the menu as often I’ve found places try and can’t get it right. Clearly a South African influence in the kitchen, it all looked amazing, and what I had tasted amazing. Booked as a halfway point between in-laws, and as it had a playground. Didn’t feel out of place having kids as you do in some places. It is 25 miles from me, but definitely on the list to return to as it was such a great experience. Oh and if you like cider it’s great, and if you don’t then lilley’s cider is just like alcoholic fruit juice so you’ll like that. And if you have a dog it’s not just dog friendly, it’s actively encouraging you to bring them, didn’t this time, but another reason we will be back.

I think the word "pub" needs to be left out. We popped in for a pint after doing a few local chores and couldn't sit indoors despite spending the best part of £20 on drinks. Despite tables being laid up for eating and nobody sitting there, we were told we couldn't sit down but could stand at the bar. It was too cramped, especially with staff pushing past. We ended up sitting outside on wet seats in the rain. Just call it a restaurant and be done with it. There are much better "pubs" around that also sell food.

The staff then got aggressive with us and marched over to the table looming over my elderly parents and basically said "get out". Before this (whilst I was in the toilet) they forced my dad to pay for food that hadn't even been served. He was surrounded by two people whilst having to get his credit card out to pay...This physically frightened my 80 year old parents!!!! I regret being a bit ambivalent about this place. It should be a cracking spot - open fire, good space and great staff. Somehow it just didn't quite work for us. Not sure what the look is supposed to be, and I think that the way the bars are laid out, with large pillars/walls, rather obscures and represses the ability to make this either a sophisticated or dynamic venue for a good evening out.

We had a really nice family meal at the Cyder House this weekend. Overall, the food was fantastic - 2 veggie roasts which were lovely, the pork shoulder and roast chicken were enjoyed very much but the one meal we did have a problem with was the roast beef, which was so chewy it couldn't be cut through with a knife and fork. The waitress did check on us during the meal, but due to a mix-up with the vegetarian meals, we had only just begun eating and therefore had no complaints yet. My grandmother was unable to eat the beef but did enjoy the rest of the roast dinner. We did get the beef meal taken off of our bill though which was great! The only other issue was that the tables seemed extremely squashed together which meant the waitress had trouble getting the food to some of our group without leaning across others, and we also found it difficult to get in and out of our places - especially my grandfather and myself who have mobility problems. Apart from those two things, we really did have a great meal in a pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Went for a meal mid week. It feels like the place certainly focuses on quality over quantity which is great. The main course was just the right size and the quality was great. The loss of star is just for the cost Vs portion size. If the cost is due to all the ingredients being ultra fresh/high quality then tell your customers, it'll make the £5 more expensive than elsewhere coat feel more justified. That said, amazing service, great food, lovely atmosphere. Top work.

The joy of going out has somewhat dulled so it was an absolute pleasure to visit the Cyder House. Aside from the amazing vegan food (thoughtful and considered) is a great selection of non alcoholic drinks. Fear not that this makes this a dull place as the other options looked great and the atmosphere lovely. A great team behind this place and the results are superb. Went with a friend at the end of October on a Thursday evening which turned out to be the pubs Steak Night and Oh my goodness what a find....the steaks were the best ever... so juicy and tender and cooked to perfection! Vowed to go back with my husband which I did last week..it's now his and mine "go to steak place". Booked to go again this week to celebrate a friends Birthday. The menu had an excellent choice of other meals too that I will definitely try if I can tear myself away from the steak ! The pub was warm and very welcoming and both times all of the tables were full so probably best to book in advance. Good selection of beers and obviously ciders- being The Cyder House! Noticed that the cider on tap had changed from one visit to the next which was great. Hopefully this is ongoing as I'm a fan of the "proper" cider and not the fruit infused/flavoured ones! Long may this great pub continue to flourish.

Lamb Bunny Chow served in a hollowed out Champagne Rye loaf of bread was particularly tasty. Beers were not as plentiful as hoped, but Hogs Back TEA and Loxhill Biscuit from Crafty Brewing were on hand-pull last night. Neck Oil on keg also available. Quite a few ciders too, not surprisingly! Wonderful stop at the end of our holiday. Lucky with September sun so sat on the terrace. Service was excellent and the food so fresh and tasty. The Menu was unusual and it was hard to choose. Hope to come back one day

Not local to this area, I chose this restaurant from the consistently excellent Tripadvisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. For starters we had the salt & pepper squid, which was tasty and cooked just right. For our main courses we had Lamb Bunny Chow and Cyder battered fish & chips. The fish was haddock, my preference, which was moist and very nicely cooked in a light crispy batter which wasn’t greasy. The accompanying side dish of onion straws was lightly seasoned and very nicely cooked, which made them very tasty. The Lamb Bunny Chow was very tasty, and such a large portion, that we took the unfinished remains home with us. The vanilla crème brulee was delicious and had the light crispy top that a brulee should have. The service was very good, from friendly and helpful staff. We had a table for two with two funky comfortable wing backed chairs. It was quiz night, but we had considerately been placed in an area separate to the main quiz area, so that we were not overpowered by the event. However, we did have a go at answering the questions ourselves, which was fun. The overall décor is a rustic style, with comfortable dining chairs which I appreciate. We will definitely visit again when next in the area.

Prices good, spending just over £100 for 3 meals, alcoholic drinks, coffees, and desserts, including tip. Serving staff were all brilliant. Very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Food was okay. Vegan roast arrived with non-vegan yorkshires, quickly rectified, but shows a lack of attention by the kitchen to allergens / cross contamination. Components of the roast had also definitely spent a long time under a lamp or had been microwaved. Potatoes soggy on outside but dry on inside, floppy/chewy veg. Would still go again to try some of the other Vegan options like the banana blossom fish and chips, since the service was so good.

A really great pub for the family. We’ve visited several times for just drinks as well as meals. Service is always friendly and the food is very good. The very close play park in the garden is really great for the kids

this is my second home, because I work here. And therefore I know that all the food is fresh and tasty, the cooks wear gloves, the waiters are very polite and attentive. But if you don’t believe me, come and see for yourself)

Sunday lunch, for family 2 adults and two children. Only Sunday roast available, Turkey or beef. Asked for gravy on the side , all came smothered in a thick dark brown gravy and a jug of gravy on the side. Very poor presentation and the quality of the turkey was poor but the single slice of beef was the toughest I ever had. We didn’t even consider dessert ! Not to be recommended, AVOID.

So always served quickly and food is good however prices have gone up a bit and they only take cash??!!! Is always busy at the weekends but they are closing all of august WHAT ??? It’s the only place to grab a descent bite to eat in the daytime around here. Improvements would be better quality of red and brown sauce they do use the cheaper versions which in my opinion ruins the breakfast.

Very nice lunch. As there was a large crowd in, service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry! Have been several times recently and always enjoyed the good food. Hope to come again soon.

Deze pub wordt gerund door de dorpsbewoners. Heel enthousiaste bediening en lekker eten voor een geringe prijs. Bij mooi weer ook buiten eten in de beergarden.
